They are on the river. Indoor and outdoor seating. The waitress was ok, she never asked if we wanted a refill, I had to ask every time. She was a bit slow. Somewhat friendly. The fried pickles were some of the best I've ever had The fries were really good! The shrimp was ok. The Mac and cheese was pretty dry, The gumbo had more of a stew flavor than a gumbo flavor. We stopped after long drive from Atlanta on our way home to Houston for early dinner. The food was amazingly good and inventive. We started with Ruby's Crawfish Queso and homemade chips. Delicious and chips were thin, crispy and not st all greasy...cooked perfectly. My husband had the smothered catfish over a bed of rice, covered with crawfish étouffée...fantastic... with sides of mashed yams with marshmallows and fire roasted corn. Epic! I had Nont's grilled catfish and shrimp platter with side salad (ordinary) but the remoulade dressing was spicy and flavorful, plus the fire roasted corn. We always enjoy Trapps! This particular time, my brother and I took our sister and her husband as they had never been. We were able to have a great view of the Ouachita River and very pleasant evening. We all got something different on this visit but we got to taste what everyone got! I was in town and I was trying to find a Cajun food place. I stopped in around 2 pm after the lunch rush. There were a few people eating in here and I had a choice of seating but chose to stay inside where the ac was on. Service was great and I decided to go with eating three cups so I can have a variety. It would have been nice for a dish available for multiple items like the soups dishes. They were all good, the gumbo a little dry and gummy like it was sitting and the garlic bread was cold. I had to try the bread pudding with the whiskey sauce. It was good but a huge portion. I was flying back so I couldn't take it with me. It was a good lunch and satisfied my Louisiana craving. We were passing through on a Tuesday evening and wanted Cajun food and this was the first restaurant that popped up..... it was steak night and the gentlemen that sat across from us had steak and it looked wonderful however we still opted for Cajun entrees..... mistake! For appetizers we had an order of boudin balls that were burnt( crispy critters) I ordered a cup of red beans and rice and a cup of chicken and sausage gumbo. The red beans and rice were spot on the gumbo was not. I was brought a bowl full of broth with a sliver of chicken and sausage and it tasted awful. My husband ordered half and half crawfish which was etouffee with fried crawfish tails sprinkled on top. First it was served luke warm, the fried tails were chewy which to me means they were not freshly cooked and sat under a heat lamp for a while the etouffe tasted like tomato soup with holy trinity and rotel. Very disappointing!! We should have ordered the steak. Service was great!! Atmosphere was fine with the exception of fly traps sitting in window sills next to our table full of flies Needless to say won't be back. read more

We have been to Trapp's several times and always have a good experience. My husband always gets the crawfish etouffee and this time I had the catfish with crawfish etouffee on top. We also ordered boudin balls as appetizers. It was all delicious! We sat outside and enjoyed watching the river as we ate. this joint for dinner on our way back home. It was early for dinner so we were seated quickly. We started with fried banana peppers... spicy! I ordered Nic's creole sampler, which gave us several different bits...all delicious. Gumbo, jambalaya and shrimp/crab/corn bisque were also ordered. Everything tasted like LA, as it should. By the time we finished, the joint was slammed. A musician was setting up to do a gig, but we didn't get a chance to listen. I don't know what I was expecting, but Trapp's far exceeded it. I sat on the back patio with a view of the river and city lights. I started with fried banana peppers and roulade sauce, then moved on to the boudin-stuffed chicken breast topped with more roulade sauce. Good Location right on the river. Easy to find and park. We got the Lunch Shrimp Platter. Shrimp was good and not spicy. Homemade Mashed potatoes is good and fresh. The spiciness comes with the asparagus. Good well but too hot for us. The atmosphere is nice and has that river feel to it. What an awesome place with really nice servers. Our waitress was as kind and sweet as the tea. The nachos were huge $18.99- so big we didn't order dinner. Note there is a lunch portion sixe you can order. The chips are fresh and the seafood is not skimpy. Let me tell you those nachos would feed four adults. We opted for some cup size gumbo $8 and jambalaya $8. I thought the two mixed together would be amazing. I liked the gumbo a lot it had a ton of flavor. The jambalaya was good but on the dry side and a tad salty. I did order a $12 spicy bloody mary with all the fixes- fixes is 2 olives and a lime and a lemon. We did order bread pudding $8 and cheesecake also $8 to go. They have an inside and an outside seating (with heaters). The bread pudding I would get again, a ton of cinnamon flavor. I would pass on the cheesecake (dry and not a ton of flavor even with the caramel). The place is very casual and dinners from all walks of life. Definitely will be back here once we move. read more

Exactly what we were looking for - dog friendly and local food that was delicious. We popped in this afternoon as lunch had been forgotten during my antique shopping. Everything was really good and our server was incredible, on top of it but not pushy at all. She knew when we wanted her and I like that. Wish I wasn't so forgetful....we were outside and she had long strawberry blond hair. We started with Mom's Bourque's Seafood Nachos and they were loaded with shrimp and crawfish and so delicious, then followed up with half a fried catfish Po-boy which was perfection and a cup of gumbo! I also had a Bourbon Peach Smash which was excellent. There were fans on the patio, and it was shady, but boy was it ever hot. Regardless, we ate it all and thoroughly enjoyed our river view. Was in town for work and finished early. Had stopped in at the chamber of commerce to grab a geocache and they recommended Trapps. So I took the locals suggestion and came for lunch. I got fried crawfish poboy with fries. The fries were cold but the poboy was hot and tasty. There was lots of fried crawfish with their house sauce. I sat outside overlooking the water. Drove through Monroe today on a road trip and stopped here for lunch. We had red beans and rice, the catfish plate, and the 3 kids were satisfied with their options as well. We were extremely impressed with the fried catfish! Definitely a winner. I'm not a huge fan of tarter sauce but Trapp's was delicious. The waitress was so sweet and helpful. Only reason I gave 4 stars is because my daughter (who just got an expander and is still figuring out how to eat with it) ordered mashed potatoes. They came out stone cold, it was so odd because everything else was piping hot. I had to send them back and the new batch was fine, but if felt bad because we all had our food and she had to just sit there waiting for hot potatoes. I'd still come back though! Outdoors had a bit of a wait but a bit cool so we opted to eat in. We had Boudin for appetizers and all liked. Then I had the boiled shrimp with a cup of chicken gumbo and a side salad, there was a fried sampler platter, a catfish plate that was huge and then a poor boy and a cup of bisque at the table. All plates were clean when we finished but we had to tag team the catfish plate as it was more than one could eat. Got there early enough for happy hour so had a great pair of draft adult beverages.
