I love this place. It is reliably great. The food is great, and served quickly. The service is great (my last experience with Riley, and she was wonderful), and there is no better place to sit outdoors and enjoy the bayou. I love the roast beef poboy. And the coleslaw is excellent. read more

My wife and I were in Monroe, LA shopping and decided to dine out for lunch at Catahoula's on the Bayou. I had seen the other reviews and they were mostly negative ratings with a couple positive ratings. Even so, I decided to try it for myself. When we got there around 12:30pm on a Saturday, we found the parking lot filled and a line of people out of the entrance! I immediately thought this place must be great to have this many people wanting to eat here! My wife suggested we do our shopping first then return for a late lunch. I agreed and we did just that. We returned around 2:30pm and had to just a mostly filled parking lot with some open spaces. After about a 10 to 15 minute wait we were seated outside on the back patio area. I ordered the appetizer sampler (pick three items from a list of six items) with Natchitoches meat pies, fried mushrooms, and fried pickles. For my main entree I chose the Catahoula Burger. 1/3 pound patty, bacon, habanero jack cheese, jalapeños, chipotle ranch, tomato, and grilled onions. (I had them hold the bacon). With a side of fries. The burger was delicious, but not very spicy (at least to me, but I routinely eat very spicy foods). The fries were awesome, not too much salt and they were crisp and crunchy! The inside dining area was rather loud, but it's a sports bar with tvs on the walls and it was a bit crowded too. The outside patio was almost as crowded, but without the tvs and no walls for the sounds to echo off of. Plus there was a nice breeze for our enjoyment along with a view of the bayou. The staff was polite, professional, and pleasant. Our food was delivered after just a couple minutes and the server made sure our needs were met. I am pleased to say we had a very enjoyable lunch at Catahoula's on the Bayou. read more

Catahoula's is a great, casual spot for lunch. I ended up here after a work thing. It was recommended by a friend who lives in the area. When we were driving there I noticed a bayou and cypress trees. I asked him if it was man made so they would feel like they are part of Louisiana and not Arkansas. He didn't find it funny. Our server was great. She was super friendly and helpful and a great salesperson. She even convinced me to get a burger that came with gravy since that's what all the locals do. I made her put it on the side since who in their right mind eats burgers with gravy. Anyway, the gravy was good but I am still not convinced it belongs on a burger. Minus that, the burger was great. I will definitely be back. If you're looking for a casual spot with a great view, Catahoula's should be on your list. read more

I don't really get the negative reviews. Although, I'm from out of town and probably ordered something pretty basic and hard to screw up. This little restaurant/bar is situated near the water. I want to say it's either the bayou or river in town but half the time I can't figure out which is which. I came here for lunch with my family on one of the days I was visiting and it was somewhat still fairly early. Like just opening early. They have daily lunch specials which is nice for the wallet. I went with a half a po boy and picked the pasta salad as my side. I'm really glad I went with a half because a whole is absolutely massive. Opted for grilled shrimp and was pleased that the pasta salad wasn't saturated in mayo and was actually a vinaigrette. Saving my waist line one struggle meal at a time. The shrimp were pretty large and plentiful and the bread was soft and had a nice bounce to it. I really like when they don't give you half stale french bread that chews up the roof of your mouth. So this po boy was a huge winner for me. Things I couldn't care for were the appetizers my dad ordered. We got fried pickles and the fried mushrooms. The mushrooms were okay. The pickles were so salty they were nearly inedible. For me. My family still ate them but they'll eat everything. I can't speak for the drinks because half of my immediate family gave up drinking completely recently and I tried to restrain myself to some degree on this trip. But they sold frozen drinks that would have been tempting and maybe the route I would have gone on. The food is cheap, the service was fast and friendly. I really can't find anything to complain about other than please for the love of god lay off the salt. read more

Came here with my family for our first visit and I will definitely be coming back!!! The waitress was very sweet and tentative my drink never went empty, we all got burgers and the Catahoula burger was absolutely delicious. I forgot the name I think it was the sunrise mixed drink it was also very good. Add to the fact that this might be the most beautiful outdoor dining experience in Ouachita Parish makes it all the more better. Whoever designed and built the restaurant also did a fantastic job the restaurant is very nice. Really good spot for a date night or just visiting with friends. This place's food is not to be taken seriously. I bought almost 70 dollars worth of food and every member of my family was very disappointed with each meal. I was there to pick food up on time, food was soggy and cold. At least have the decency microwave what's been sitting out. Laughable. Then there was today: Have you ever CHEWED on a Rubber TIRE??? I ordered the Grilled Chicken Sandwich and was totally unedible! Tough as an OLD TIRE, OVER COOKED BEYOND BELIEF. This place needs to hire people who know how to cook and NOT ruin the food. When I brought it to the Servers attention, she said she would talk to the manager. Told her I should not be charged for this, I left half the sandwich on the plate with the FORK stuck in it. The manager only offered me a LOUSY $3.00 discount off the sandwich. Total Garbage. If I could give this Restaurant a NEGATIVE RATING I WOULD GIVE IT MINUS 10! Then the kicker came when we went to check out. Seems this place also charges a 4 percent service Charge for credit / debit cards. No where is any sign or information posted stating this fact. So, get a lousy $3 discount for the RuBBER TIRE Sandwich and then get charge 4 percent on top of that. THIS RESTAURANT SHOULD BE AVOIDED AT ALL COSTS, IT IS REALLY BAD! Oh my goodness!! Where have I been for the last year and a half - wait, wait, wait .... we have all gone through the "COVID Pandemic". I have just eaten at Catahoula's for the very first time and it is my absolute favorite new restaurant to eat... and I can't wait to come back !! From the moment you enter - the ambience inside with all the Louisiana art (I am a huge Blue Dog, George Rodrigues fan)... to the wonderful setting on the bayou, it is a welcome breath of fresh air to our community!! All the wait staff and other employees are extremely cordial and knowledgeable of their food offerings. Next comes the menu - oh my the variety and the diversity of food goodness - offers something for everyone! Now comes the food ... As we sayin my house - " make you wanna slap yo momma" - but you best not - for your own good - that's some good eats !! Thank you Shane Smiley and staff! I would have ranked this place higher if service had have been better. The food was ok but the waitress was completely aloof. She acted as if she did not want to serve us. This was our first trip here and every question we asked was answered in a snarky condescending manner. We are great tippers but left a very small tip because of the little service we received.
