Came here for the first time and I was not disappointed! The entrance as you're walking in is so charming and welcoming, and their interior decor is cute and quirky! I ordered the avocado toast and it was delicious; I ate every single morsel on that plate. It's not your typical avocado toast, or at least nothing like I've had before, but like I said, it was super tasty and I'd definitely order it again! Very cute decor but overpriced. I went with a group for dinner only to realize that there wasn't a single vegetarian option on the menu. They charged me $17 for a salad with no protein. I also got the board walk fries ($7 and the only worthwhile thing on the menu) and a beer which was apparently $8. If I end up having to come here again I'll just turn the boardwalk fries into a meal and call it a day. Our food did take a while to come out but our server was good. It was a busy Friday night, but we were sat down fairly quickly. The staff was great--friendly and very on top of everything. We were tended to in a timely manner and had plenty of refills. The special was an appetizer of Boom Boom Shrimp, and it tasted amazing. We ordered Caesar Tuna Salad, Buffalo Ranch Chicken Fries, Kids Spaghetti, and a Fried Shrimp Basket. Where do I start. This is an interesting as well as a little strange restaurant hidden off the beaten track in Monroe. I will review the restaurant itself and the food separately, as I feel for this particular place it is necessary. THE RESTAURANT: Before you enter the restaraunt itself. There is a faux grass area out front, with pleasant tables and cornhole games setup. On the side is a converted silver bullet trailer filled with table arcade games, as well as a bouncy castle for the kids. In the rear is a plesant partly covered patio, with tables and water fountains. Once you enter the restaraunt itself, you are greated with some 80s throwback decor, and an odd layout with a few themed side rooms. One had shag carpet on the door and vintage lighting and palm leaf fans. For a fun place to go and something a little different, this restaraunt hits the mark, and I would give it 4 stars for the place itself. THE FOOD so the menu is small and a little pricey for the quality of the food. We began with the shrimp cocktail ($15.00), which was six large sized gulf shrimp in ice, with cocktail sauce. The shrimp were lightly seasoned and all in all were decent for a shrimp cocktail. We also had the Mexican cheese fries ($15.00) which was simply fries with Mexican seasoning, cheese and a few other things thrown in (all the good things is what it says on the menu). These were a little disappointing to be honest. I then ordered the ribeye ($36.00). Their was no option of baked potatoe, so I ordered fries as my side (frilled veg were also an option). I requested my stake be cooked Medium Rare. The stake was cooked to the correct requested temperature but to be honest the steak was a poor quality ribeye (especially for the price), and was rather thin. It came with a side of horseradish cream which was plesant, and the fries were OK, but all in all the steak and fries was a little disappointing. We expected it to be much better. To be honest, chain steak restaraunts like Outback, longhorn or Logans deliver a better steak for less! One of our part ordered the Grouper ($28.00), which came with a crab parmesan dressing, green beans and potatoes. The Grouper was cooked well and was delicious, however the green beans had been smoked and Way overdone. The smoked flavor was not delicate, but instead was overwhelming and it worked against the delicate flavor of the fish. All in the food is average, but I can most definitely say that based k. This outing, this is not the place to go for a good steak. The food I would give Three Stars. The price is high for the quality of the food, but the extra fun outdoor amenities can help with swallowing the price to some degree. In the end I weighed up the four stars I would give the place itself, and the three stars I gave the food, and if I could give 3.5 stats I would. As I can. Ot I had to go with three stars, because in the end, this is a restaraunt and should be judged mostly on the food. read more

My mom and I decided to try this place for breakfast this morning. It's in an old cozy house. There is a jukebox that has 80's music on it. The coffee was lukewarm and awful. But, the breakfast made up for it. I had the pancakes with warm maple butter syrup. The pancakes were wonderful. You get two for 12.99. No sides come with it, just pancakes. I though that was a little pricey for two pancakes. You have to pay for each side item separately, so, I ordered some grits to go with it and they were delicious! My mom has the sandbar breakfast and she said it was delicious as well. I paid 17.00 for two pancakes and grits. I do think that's a bit expensive, but the food was delicious. I'll be going back to try their dinner, soon. read more

The waitstaff and bartenders were so friendly. Service was super prompt! Every single staff member pitched in to help out and made sure our dining experine was the best they could provide, which really speaks to the cohesiveness of this team. She only come out a few times and still managed to make $40 in gratuity. The restaurant is an old house that was renovated. Wasn't impressed but that's my opinion. This all frills, minimal substance establishment is a one and done for me. If you keep reading this review, it will be a none and done for you. I went with my family and most of us had a bumpy road on this culinary journey. I'll start by the kitchen staff "misreading the ticket" and serving me spaghetti n meatballs as opposed to the shrimp pasta that I ordered. The polite server was at least kind enough to take it off the check. The kitchen ran out of green beans for the grouper entree. We asked if another vegetable could be substituted, they said that green beans are the only green that they serve. I know we are in the stroke belt, but come on! At least have something basic like asparagus or carrots. Instead, they brought what looked a school cafeteria scoop of dry instant mashed potatoes also reminiscent of a Hungry Man's frozen meal. The grouper was a very small portion, egregiously dry, and the breading lacked any discernible flavor. Frozen grouper can be tasteful if prepared with love and care. Truly embarrassing display for paying $36.50 Canadian dollars. The side salads that came with the entree were ho-hum. Just some iceberg lettuce with carrots, onions and tomatoes. They could've at least splurged a little on the field greens. I will say the praline vinaigrette was an interesting choice as I tend to lean on cult flavors of sauces/dressings. Most of my family reported it was too sweet. Ok, if you've made it this far reading my review, you are a trooper for the airing of my grievances. Now it's time for the feats of strength. The boardwalk fries appetizer was solid. The shrimp in the pasta was sautéed pretty well and the creole sauce had gentle and savory taste. I would've preferred the tails to be off the shrimp and less oily overall. My father in law said that the blackened grouper sandwich was fantastic. My mother in law enjoyed her paneed chicken as advertised. I personally didn't try either of these items, but they looked like they were prepared well. Overall, this restaurant's potential could trend positively if they were more attentive to detail and improve the quality of auxiliary items and specialty entrees. They invested a lot into the atmosphere and decorations of this establishment, but have sacrificed quality control of the food and service. This could be a fun place to grab drinks or play vintage arcade games after an evening of gallivanting around town. If you decide to dine at Okaloosa, be prepared to Oka-lose-ya money. read more

My four core things that i look for in a restaurant are: food, service, atmosphere, and drinks. As someone with years of experience in the restaurant business, it makes me very sad that Okaloosa has the reputation & quality that it does. The atmosphere and drinks are spot on. Every cocktail that I've had here has been delicious & unique. The atmosphere is amazing (aside from the patio not being the cleanest). Its without a doubt the coolest looking spot in Monroe and has immeasurable potential. What gets me is the quality of food & service. I will not eat here anymore because of how expensive it is for what tastes like a TV dinner of terrible quality. If the food was actually great & prepared timely & correctly, I would absolutely pay the hefty price. But it simply isn't worth it. Service is hit or miss. I've had wonderful service before but also terribly rude & inattentive service as well. You just never know, which is enough to make me hesitant to come back. I really want to love this place. Monroe needs an awesome spot like this. If management could improve the food & their employees, I would easily be here every weekend. There are just too many other places in town with better food & service that I'd rather give my time & money to. Come for a drink & to hang out. Tried this place for the first time today and I would recommend staying as far away as possible. The wait staff was great and this negative review has nothing to do with them. Most of the food was horrid. We got the crab cakes, Mexico fries, and the fried shrimp sandwich. Let's start with the crab cakes. They charge you $14 for two small cakes. I would be fine with this if they didn't completely over cook them. There were spots that were charred and the cakes were dry (aside from the excess remoulade sauce that was attempting to cover the charred bits). The fries themselves were easily the best part of the meal, but that isn't saying too much. The Mexico fries are piled up with excessive amounts cheese sauce, a medium portion of tomatoes and the smallest amount of ground beef. They could have left the ground beef off and I wouldn't have noticed. The fried shrimp sandwich was easily the worst thing I have ever tasted. The bread wasn't toasted so it became soggy from the tomatoes. The shrimp batter was not seasoned at all and the batter didn't taste like other places shrimp batter. Overall I would highly recommend spending your money anywhere else. read more

Place was the most average eating I've been to for the prices they charge. The waiter would disappear for long stretches, the silverware took 30 minutes to get to our table bc they were rolling the silverware, but my wife waited 15 minutes with her salad after the waiter kept saying it would almost be done. The bartender was rude when asked about a drink. And the food was very much hit and miss. The only good thing was the drinks but again the bartender was rude and ruined even that.
