    Wag Burger

A classic dive bar done exactly right. I had to bring my best friend here for what I still consider the best burger in Frederick--and I'm happy to report it absolutely lives up to the memory. I was a little nervous since it had been a few years, but the moment we walked in, I knew: nothing has changed (and that's a very good thing). After descending the stairs into this cozy basement gem, we were immediately greeted with smiles and a warm, welcoming "hello!" We were seated in the back by the fireplace--perfection on a cold day and instantly set the tone for a relaxed, intimate experience. We kicked things off with a couple of Raging Bitch beers because... girls' day of shopping obviously requires it . Then came the main event: burgers, medium rare. And WOW. They were cooked perfectly. Juicy, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ground beef. The seasoning was spot-on--complementary, never overpowering--and I love that they keep the condiments simple so the beef truly shines. And when that hot juice runs down your hand, you know it's gonna be GOOD to the last bite! And let's talk fries: hot, crispy, and dusted with just the right amount of Old Bay. Not too much, not too little--absolute perfection. If you're looking for an authentic, cozy dive bar vibe with genuinely great food, this place delivers every single time. No frills, no nonsense--just comfort, character, and one killer burger. We'll definitely be back.

I've had Patty Melts and Blue Cheese burgers and awesome fries here so many times.... Wags is an institution, with a genuine history of an underground Speakeasy at this location during prohibition Nothing fancy. It's just a great bar with great food and good prices. Have a burger here!

Also best prices it's amazing . Thank u I'll be back

Delicious great price great service. Rest of Frederick should take a page from them.

Cool dive bar with a full bar (no drink menu) and decent burgers that come with chips. Good prices. Was pretty packed so service took a while.

Wags is a great place, it's Wags! You are in a basement but that is the cool vive. Service is very good and although the menu is mostly sandwiches that's what you come here for. Try a bowl of the Wags fries. The cheese steaks are fantastic and if you love roast beef, this is your place. Be careful you could walk right by it and miss this gem.

    Fried Fish Platter (haddock)

I popped in here to grab food to take home after Frederick night out. I had never been here before, but they had a sign outside advertising their specials. The fried fish platter caught my eye as I am a pescatarian. I went in to order, one staff member was okay and the other was very welcoming. The atmosphere was great, reminiscent of a pub, small, lively, rustic and galley shaped. After waiting 30 minutes for my one platter, paying 16.95 plus a 20% tip, my food was ready. It was brought to me and placed on the bar, dirty container, no bag, no napkins, no silverware, which is not how the previous to go order was presented. I grabbed my container and drove the 3 miles home only to sit down to eat and open the container to what is shown in the photo, very little fries and 2 small overcooked dry pieces of clearly frozen fish. After breaking one piece of fish in half, I could not eat the food. I wish that I had taken the extra hour, gone to the grocery store, and prepared the meal myself. It would have been cheaper and edible. I am extremely disappointed and will not return. Maybe this review will help someone else avoid wasting their money and ending their night hungry.

My server Tuesday was really awesome. She took time to learn my name. I came here because it kept popping up on the Best Burger lists, but I ended up ordering the Pit Beef, and I got fries instead of chips. I would totes come back.

Sour cream mushroom burger with added bacon. Delish!

Holy moly, GREAT burgers! I had already heard Wag's had good burgers and had been wanting to try it out for myself. My husband and I decided to come here for lunch in a Monday because we were craving...yep you guessed it: burgers! As you may have heard, as we did, it is located in a downstairs...storefront? Basement? Pub? Doesn't matter. Walking in, it is a small, dimly lit dining and bar area. The appearance is clean and reminded me of London pubs a bit. Good for groups of 2-4. I ordered the sour cream mushroom burger, added bacon, and my husband got the double bacon cheeseburger. We also got the lettuce, tomato, onion and mayo addition as well as a side of wags fries to share (the burgers normally come with a side of potato chips). Both cooked medium. I thoroughly enjoyed my burger and all the fixings!! It tasted homemade but better. It was nicely seasoned and very juicy. My husband said he really enjoyed his burger and appreciated that the bacon was "real" as well as nicely crispy. Our server was Casey, I believe, and she is awesome! She is extremely friendly and made sure to check on us frequently whiled we dined but not overbearing. Overall a great experience and we will be back. Maybe next time we'll bring our kids! Lol.

Cheeseburger. Not an award winner but not bad and priced fair.

Slow service. Poor draft selection. Overrated small food menu.... ...but awesome. A warm basement bar with kinda cool kinda funky all friendly customers and staff. No complaints. Cone here for a pint of lager to chat with your best bud.

Probably one of the Top 5 cheeseburgers I have ever had! I am a big fan of simple foods done right, and this fit the bill! Good patty, good cheese, good bun, good fries, good everything! Service and ambiance are great as well! Def a great option!

Ask the Community - Wag's Restaurant

Is there a "back way" into Wag's for a person who isn't very good with stairs? He walks ok but it's an effort after a bike accident.

I'm sorry, Wags is in the basement, so there are steps in the front and in the back. The front stairs are actually easier. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I had driven two hours and was hungry, but I was also committed to making good decisions. Or at least mostly good decisions... The hostess offered me a seat at the second-floor bar rather than the quoted 25-30 minute wait. Great! Solo diners love surprise upgrades. Unfortunately, when I got upstairs, the one "available" seat had apparently been claimed by a diaper bag and a giant straw sunhat belonging to the woman sitting next to it holding a too-little-to-walk baby sitting at the bar. Uhhh...this isn't going to work. Back downstairs I went. I gave them my name and number, found a shady spot outside, and settled in for what I assumed would be a long wait. Five minutes later, my table was ready. Thank you, Universe! My server greeted me with water immediately, explained the QR code menu situation, and told me not to order through the app because she'd be right back. No worries, friend. I'd already done my homework. I knew exactly what I wanted. One Martha Stewart's Prison Pizza ($22), please. (Sausage, broccoli, ricotta, Calabrian chili peppers, lemon oil, and sea salt.) I asked for the chili peppers on the side because I know myself. I like adventure. I don't enjoy possibly setting my mouth on fire. And a Diet Pepsi ($3.50), because balance. While I waited, I people-watched, which is one of my favorite hobbies. White Rabbit was PACKED. The patio was full. The downstairs bar was full. Upstairs was full. Couples, groups of girlfriends, older folks, younger folks, families, solo diners...everyone seemed happy to be there. The place itself is pretty small, which explains the wait. Six tables downstairs, maybe eight bar seats, more seating upstairs, and a constant dance of servers carrying food through the same front door customers use. Add the "please wait to be seated" crowd gathering in the narrow hallway and I'd describe things as organized chaos. But once I was seated, I was perfectly comfortable and out of the traffic pattern. One cool touch I noticed: outlets and USB ports built right into the front of the bar. Maybe that's common and I've somehow missed it all these years, but I thought it was pretty neat. Then my pizza arrived. Oh good lawd. OH. GOOD. LAWD. This pizza was SO GOOD! I knew from the first bite that I was in trouble. There was no sauce, which surprised me at first, but after approximately three seconds I no longer cared. The sausage was plentiful. The broccoli added texture. The ricotta was creamy and rich. And that lemon oil?! That lemon oil set it off! Everything just worked together perfectly. The Calabrian peppers arrived on the side exactly as requested. I bravely sampled a very small amount on my fork before desecrating my pizza and quickly determined that folks with stronger heat tolerance than me will absolutely love them. They were just a little too spicy for my delicate tastebuds. Thankfully, the pizza was incredible without them. And those slices? MONSTERS. I ate one and seriously contemplated a second before reminding myself that I had dessert plans elsewhere. A box was requested. Self-control was exercised. Barely. As a solo diner, I also want to give White Rabbit extra points. Multiple staff members checked on me throughout the meal. I never felt forgotten, rushed, or weird sitting by myself. Everyone was warm, kind, and made me feel completely comfortable. I really appreciated that. My total bill came to $32.44 including tip which felt really reasonable given the amount of pizza I consumed and brought home. Worth every penny. I'm already scheming my next two-hour drive back. Maybe a smashburger. Maybe those Brussels sprouts everyone keeps raving about. Maybe another pizza. Maybe all of it! I highly recommend checking out White Rabbit. Make it a destination, not just a stop while you're in the area. Don't let the size of the place or the wait scare you off. It's totally worth it. PRO TIP: If you park in the Church Street Parking Garage, look for the staircase labeled "STAIR 3." White Rabbit is literally right outside the door at the bottom. No hide-and-seek required!
