My friends and I love trying different restaurants in Frederick, and this was our pick for our latest outing. The restaurant has two levels, with the upper level overlooking the main dining area, giving it a warm and inviting atmosphere. The service was wonderful from start to finish. The menu offers a wide variety of delicious options, and everyone in our group was happy with their choice. I ordered the Lemon Fried Chicken Sandwich with a side of sweet potato waffle fries. When our server asked if I wanted apple butter with the fries, I said yes--and I'm so glad I did! The combination of the crispy sandwich, perfectly cooked sweet potato waffle fries, and the apple butter was absolutely delicious. Overall we've hit a lot of Gaithersburg, Rockville, Germantown and Frederick Restaurants over the years. This was our first Fire and Oak visit. 1. The wings were exceptinally good. The Buffalo sauce was good but not horribly spicy. 2. The deviled eggs were awesome, add crab meat and i was ready for more! 3. The meatballs were awesome (yes were those people doing appetizers only) Overall the food was solid. This is definitely on our places to wander to again list! read more

The Good: Get a seat with a few others in the mezzanine, and have a delightful view of market street and those wandering up and down. The waiter in the restaurant was excellent and attentive. The Ok: The food was ok. They lean heavily into charring things because Fire and Oak, but it's ok to make good food without smoke. The food was fine, and considering the location, some might say reasonably priced. The bad: I ordered a mixed drink with only 4 ingredients from their special menu, and their bartender forgot the one ingredient that made it stand out. We are there within six weeks of open, so kinks could still be being hammered out. I love the spot, and the wait staff and value were great. I agree with a lot of the other comments. I sure miss Firestone, Fire and Oak just isn't close to the same. It was crowded when we arrived on a Saturday night. The service was OK given the work load but nothing great. My steak was overdone and cold, my wife got a salad that she just didn't like. All in all just a terribly disappointing experience and with so many other options in downtown we'll go somewhere else. read more

My girlfriend and I decided to plan a last second date night in downtown and I have to give her the credit for picking Fire and Oak. We haven't been here since it was Firestones, which sold and is now Fire & Oak. When we arrived close to 6 the bar and their happy hour was absolutely jumping with patrons. The server didn't seem too eager or enthusiastic upon walking in and asking for a table, they DO NOT accept reservations, it's first come first serve. We originally sat at a small two person table, but asked the server if we could move to the large window with a street view of Frederick. Our server was so attentive and accommodating to us! We started off with a couple of cocktails which tasted great. She really liked her peppermint White Russian and my dark and stormy was good, you just have to mix it and the drink is layered. For our entrees I ordered the 12oz ribeye which came with mashed potatoes and the vegetable if the day ($45). The mashed potatoes were puréed and were some of the best I've ever had. They were so buttery and seasoned, I could have eaten an entire bowl. The vegetable of the day was tri-colored carrots which were very good. They still had some firmness to them, which I loved. The steak was good but not great. The cut wasn't the best quality. My girlfriend's blackened shrimp pasta was absolutely delicious. It's well-seasoned and comes with plenty of sauce and shrimp. I will get this dish when we come back! The overall dinner and service was great, we love sitting at the window watching downtown come to life. The inside still feels like it did when it was Firestones. We'll absolutely be back. read more

Visited the Frederick area for work on a Tuesday night and was recommended this lowkey bar & grill by the locals. 2 of our party of 4 were sat right away as we waited for the other two. Drinks were crisp with the perfect pour! I asked for a gimlet which not many places can manage to make right and our server/bartender kicked it out of the park. The atmosphere was so relaxed and we signed up for a spontaneous game of trivia, which began at 7pm. While we waited for the other half of our party to show, we ordered wings (not pictured because they SMACKED before I could snap a photo) and the goat and pistachio flatbread was which was an interesting and creative match. Once the other half of our party showed up we ordered entrees which were fairly large servings so we had to take boxes to go. 4 stars because the pistachio flatbread or the grease from the sandwich did not agree with my stomach. Otherwise I'd visit this place again when in the area. read more

Service at 5:30 pm on a Thursday in January 2026 was spectacular. Happy hour had the bar overflowing. Dinner tables slowly filling up. Definitely planning to update when friends arrive and dinner is over. Only downside is "No Reservations Accepted" for dinner. It is first come, first serve. read more

We had a burger and Tuna Salad, the burger had a good flavor and was cooked perfectly, the salad was OK, also had a beer, draft is on the warmer side. Servers are nice but we arrived on the backed end of a busy period and it was evident a bit overwhelmed, maybe understaffed. It is ok but better options in the immediate area. read more

Underwhelming Fire & Oak closely resembles Firestone's Culinary Tavern, with a few updates under new ownership. The space keeps the same familiar, inviting atmosphere, and we were seated on the second level, which offered a nice view and ambiance. Overall, the experience was average and not especially impressive for a brand-new restaurant. The hostess greeting was brief and lacked warmth. Menu & Pricing: Prices felt high for the category and location, comparable to Brewer's Alley or Oscar's Alehouse but at a slightly higher/similar price point. Service: Service was marginal at best. The waitstaff relied heavily on digital ordering rather than guest interaction, and their casual attire detracted from the overall atmosphere. One server seemed more focused on socializing than attending to tables, resulting in missed check-ins and drink refills. Food: We tried the fish and chips and the F&O Burger. Both were bland, under-seasoned, and underwhelming in both presentation and flavor--disappointing for the price. Overall: While it may be a nice spot for drinks and socializing, there are many established downtown Frederick restaurants offering better food and value. unfortunately, I wouldn't go out of my way to return anytime soon. read more

We gave this place three opportunities to make us fans, and each time we left disappointed. While the ambiance is great, the service and food are a huge miss. Each time we visited, we experienced subpar food (tried different dishes each time), inattentive staff, or forgetful staff. If these had occurred during a rush, I'd be willing to take that into consideration, but these were at slower times of the day. Today was the final straw--I ordered a salad with steak as my protein. The salad was slimy and brown, and the steak (which was supposed to be medium) came out overdone and stone cold despite its char markings. I never send food back, but I could not eat this. My family did a private event here and it was absolutely amazing. The restaurant is lovely inside it's got a great vibe and atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating to our large event. Additionally the food was excellent a very elevated experience. Overall I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a good lunch or dinner spot! To start off the service was great. There was no problems there. We liked that the old Firestones look was kept. The food was subpar for the price we paid. The fire honey meatballs tasted like the frozen swedish meatballs from Costco. We ordered ribeyes and they came out thin, overcooked and grey. Not worth $45 each plus $2 for a small container of garlic butter. Sad because the website states keeping Firestones legacy but their vision on blending tradition and innovation falls short. A large group of us needed a quick bite before a show at the Weinberg Center. We asked if we could be in and out within an hour. Laura was amazing!! First, she let the kitchen know about our time crunch. Then, she made sure we had our drinks quickly. When more folks joined us, she took their orders quickly and we ALL got our food within 15 minutes; our late joining friends got their food just a few minutes after we did. The food was fabulous! Best brussels sprouts I've had in a long time. Our burgers, flatbreads, and wraps were very good. The fries were well seasoned and hot. I am still so impressed by the wonderful service we had. We recently visited Fire & Oak and were extremely disappointed! We ordered a bottle of wine, meatballs, and ribeye steaks, and nothing about the experience justified the price point. The food was less than satisfactory at best, lacked the quality and execution you'd expect from a place positioning itself as an elevated dining destination. Despite the messaging on their website about honoring the legacy of Firestone's, this is nothing like Firestone's at all. It certainly does not feel like a "culinary tavern" Firestone's once was. The Service was amazing, but the atmosphere and menu didn't match the expectations they're setting. Save your money and go somewhere else. Frederick has far better options. read more

Really miss the old restaurant. Why have a pastrami sandwich on the menu that does not even come close to the previous restaurant. Food was just subpar. Service was good. Not much change with the restaurant decor from the previous restaurant owners. The food is definitely not the same. read more

My first visit may have been my last. The pastrami sandwich was ALL fat. Can't believe they even served it! In addition the bread was soaked and soggy like a sponge. They did take it off our bill, but to serve it to begin with shows to me they're trying to see what they can get away with. read more

We visited for lunch on NYE as a party of 8. Service was just ok. Waitress spilled my cocktail and didn't clean it up. When we asked her for recommendations, she didn't have anything positive to offer so we decided on our own. Deviled eggs and oysters were great! Onion soup was barely warm and cheese wasn't melted. Fries were over salted. Three of our hamburgers were sent back because they were extremely overcooked. I hope this experience was only early opening jitters. Not sure if I will visit again but I'd like to give it a chance. read more
