Food was rocking tonight. Wings and combo brisket and chopped pork - all excellent. Crazy decor. Service is always good. And a good choice of beers on tap.

After seeing Wagon Train BBQ featured on America's Best Restaurants, I knew I had check it out. With that said, as soon as I walked into the restaurant, I knew it would be good. To start, I ordered the brisket nachos and they were excellent. The chips were fresh and the queso was cheesy and tasty. In addition, the brisket was delicious. The brisket was tender, juicy, with just the right amount of fat. These were simply great nachos. Next, I ordered the Midnight Rider Burger with fries. The burger was topped with pulled pork, BBQ sauce, and macaroni and cheese. Knowing that, the burger was very good. To explain, the burger was juicy and the beef had great flavor. Furthermore, the pulled pork was solid and went well with the burger. Also, the macaroni and cheese was enjoyable. It was really cheesy and creamy. However, the bun was really soggy from the toppings. Likewise, I think they forgot the BBQ sauce which made my burger a bit dry. Still, the burger was scrumptious. Additionally, the fries were fine. They were hot and crispy, but the flavor was nothing amazing. They got the job done, but could have been better. To finalize, Wagon Train BBQ is a top tier barbecue restaurant.

    Brisket, Mac & corn bread.

Not good. The reviews had me fooled. No seasoning, the Mac and cheese was awful, collard greens no flavor the brisket was dry and flavorless. Seems like all they use to season to the broth. Very disappointed will not be back. I feel like I might choke every time I eat the brisket. The corn bread was the only good thing.

A year ago a firefighter friend told me about this restaurant after their unfortunate fire. He talked about how wonderful the food was and how they had some of the best barbecue this side of the mason dixon line. He raved about their ribs and their chicken. I was finally out in the area for lunch and decided to stop in...I mean if it is good enough for a firefighter then it must be good. I arrived and was told that they didn't have ribs or chicken. They were still in the smoker. Ok...guess than means that I'll have to make a trip back to get it...so I asked when they usually had ribs or chicken. The answer is usually by 2 unless they have a big catering order. Ok...maybe the fact their menu just said "market price" should have indicated the scarcity of ribs that you can't offer them at a barbecue restaurant until half way through the day...so I'm like what can I get and the waitress suggested the brisket dinner. Ok that sounds good. I ordered it...I should be able to get a good taste of their unique flavors. The restaurant isn't large but is well decorated with a western kind of theme. They definitely have a collection of shotguns that decorate the place which completes the outlaw western theme. It feels like you stepped into a local western bar and has the friendly local friendly feel to match. This they did great on. The waitress brings the brisket. I have never in my life seen brisket cut up into squares and without any sauce or rub...until now. The meat was not tough but it was not tender either. The brisket had a good chunk of fat on each, unflavored square. So if you love unflavored meat with some fat on it that isn't grizzly or fall apart tender this is your place. Maybe a little barbecue sauce on top of the meat...wait it is served with a tub of butter. Or is that for the cold cornbread? I was confused. A barbecue place with no barbecue sauce. However, the Cole slaw was very good. Probably the only really good thing on the plate that I can say, yea, my firefighter friend was right. This definitely has the feel of a family run place. You can tell they have relationships with the locals and the people are quite friendly....but it feels like the food is an afterthought. Had I known how disappointing the food would be and that they wouldn't have ribs...I would have headed over to Memphis King. Would I recommend? Not at this point. But they definitely are hard working friendly people so I'd give them a second chance...but I wouldn't make a special trip to do so.

Food came out so quick!!! Service was great. Ribs were good, we both liked the Carolina sauce the best on the ribs. Meat was falling off the bone, cooked wonderfully. Cornbread was served cold like it was taken right out of the fridge, I prefer it warm but that must be their style. And you leave smelling like a bonfire.

I give this 5 stars for not only is it good food, but everything else makes it great. Is this the best barbecue I've ever had? It's not. It's good, but the ambience, it feels and most importantly, smells like a barbecue restaurant. The wait staff was phenomenal (I wish I could remember our waitress name). We ordered the nachos for an appetizer and they were there in no time. My dinner, the beef brisket sandwich with fries came out the appropriate time after the nachos. I love beef brisket and they have never run out the times I've ordered from here. Fries were thin and well cooked and there were a lot. I love the food and the rest makes me give it 5 stars.

One of our local favorites to order. Their burgers are banging but skip the Mac & cheese and macaroni salad, they are a bit dry.

I finally made it to Jumpin' Jacks the other day. It's a mid-century outdoor diner, which is a local institution. I felt as though I traveled back in time to the 1950s or stepped into a scene from that old tv show, "Happy Days." The place looks awesome. I ordered a Jack Burger which consists of double hamburger patties covered in cheese and coleslaw on a bun. While the patties look flat they are tasty and very filling. I also had some fries, which were very good. I was stuffed. The 2 Jack Burgers--one for a friend-- fries and two fountain drinks ran me $26. Not bad. I was there for an early dinner at about 4:30pm. I've been warned that the lines can get very long. My friends suggested in order to avoid crowds I'm best off showing up at off hours. It was a fun experience. I finally get it. The owners were there the entire evening, personally overseeing everything and checking on our table several times to make sure we were enjoying ourselves. That level of care and attention is something you don't find everywhere. The menu is incredible, with so many tempting options that I already know I'll have to come back multiple times to work my way through it! Everything is made fresh from scratch, and you can truly taste the difference. I ordered the Buffalo Chicken Salad, and it was so good that I completely forgot to take a picture before digging in! To drink, I had not one, but TWO Razzleberry Sparkling Lemonades, made with Tito's Handmade Vodka, lemonade, muddled blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries, topped with Prosecco. They were absolutely delicious and dangerously easy to drink! Two of my friends ordered Mojitos, and they were beautiful, refreshing, and looked absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the Shrimp Ravioli, and in his words, it was "excellent" and trust me, he's not easy to impress when it comes to food! He finished his meal with the tiramisu, which was fresh, flavorful, and the perfect ending to the evening. Two of our friends enjoyed the Shepherd's Pie. It was originally intended as a St. Patrick's Day special, but it became so popular that they've added it to the regular menu permanently. After hearing the rave reviews at our table, I can see why! Another friend ordered the Slammin' Piggy Tacos and couldn't stop talking about how good they were. Our other friend had the Jerk Shrimp Tacos and loved those as well. For dessert, I chose the Chocolate Pie, which was absolutely delightful and the perfect sweet ending to a fantastic meal. One thing I especially appreciated was how accessible the restaurant is. It is completely handicapped accessible, which can sometimes be difficult to find, and there is a convenient parking lot right next door that makes getting in and out easy. If you're looking for fresh, homemade food prepared by local owners who genuinely care about the quality of every dish they serve, you need to check this place out. We left happy, full, and already talking about what we'll order on our next visit. We'll definitely be back soon because there are still so many items on the menu I can't wait to try!
