    Sides with catfish dinner
    Ray K.

We were out for a Sunday drive when we saw Outpost 40. I made sure to remember where it was because we wanted to return and try it. Almost a week later we decided it was time and we went for dinner. I found the restaurant to be very nice inside, clean and not crowded. Our waitress's name was Cheyenne and it went with the theme of the restaurant which was Country. Country music playing in the background! We checked the menu and found a few items that we wanted to try. I'm a lover of Catfish, so I ordered the Catfish dinner with 2 sides, baked potato and corn. Included with the dinners is a Salad Bar which was amazing! There had to be 20 different items to choose from. My wife had the chicken parmigiana which I had to sample and found it very good. My catfish was also excellent, portions were perfect, I ended up taking home some of the leftovers. I highly recommended trying this place out! It's about a 30 minute ride from Clifton Park and worth the trip. Cheyenne did a great job taking care of our needs during our dinner.

    Burnt ends with mac

Kills me to write this bc I'm really rooting for you to be successful. Our area desperately needs a good restaurant. The good...great atmosphere and friendly service. Soup of the day was unique Hamburger soup. Pretty good. Then we fell off a cliff. Burnt ends are supposed to be crispy with hints of barbecue. These were some kind of soggy meat drowning in bad barbecue sauce. The Mac was just as soggy and taste less. Finally the coleslaw tasted like a 3 day olde hannerford package in a bowl. In fact I buy grocery store packaged burnt ends and mac and cheese that seemed shockingly similar. Come on guys. You have to add your own unique creative touch to your food. Blah food doesn't make people comeback. Otherwise we will go to the grocery and buy the same garbage and eat at home.

The price is on the higher side for this area but at the same time you have several things to factor in.. everything tastes homemade including the soups, the portions are large (my mom and I both had leftovers), and you are at a golf course as well so that already sets an expectation for elevated cost in my mind. The service was very friendly and you can tell they work hard, everyone is readily available to help you out while also constantly moving and making sure everyone has everything they need / having efficient table touches, etc. I had the Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo & my mother got the Ribeye.. they were both huge lol but they were also both cooked and prepared perfectly! They have a TON of alcohol selections - for seltzer / can people like myself FYI - they have High Noon, Truly, Surfside, all the good ones! The ambiance is great, it was pretty much a full house when we came and everyone was clearly enjoying themselves. The room when you first walk in has lots of tables by big windows and a bar, and then the back left hand side is full of gorgeous murals covering the walls and additional seating kind of in its own little corner. Overall, definitely recommend this place for a drink and a really nice dinner. Just come hungry and allow yourself the option to go home after with some leftovers! For our meals plus an alcohol beverage each, it was $70 or so, plus a tip.

We sat outside and even though it started to rain we were completely comfortable because we opened up the umbrella on the table. My husband got a milkshake and said it was delicious. My toddler ate every single bite of his chicken tenders and fries. The appetizer sampler was amazing! The sweet corn nuggets were my personal favorite and my husbands favorite was the wild chiles. We got to pick 2 dipping sauces and we chose Melba raspberry and Cajun ranch. Both delicious and unique! Next time we drive through we would stop here in an instant!

It was an extra 5-10 minutes vs another route but we gave it a shot. Was NOT disappointed. I know it may look a little run down from the exterior but to me, that was the charm of the place. The husband-wife establishment has been there 30 years. The chef, aka husband, recovered from a stroke a few years ago with the love and support from his wife in rehab with him. He fought hard with getting back in the kitchen as one of the drivers. The burgers we had showed that same love and effort in each bite. You order by the pound so my son and I got 1 pounders. I think mine was called Charlie's hot mess (pictured here). It was cooked to perfection with juice dripping on each bite. One of the best burgers I've had in years. Tammy, the wife, was super friendly and I felt like I knew her for years after five minutes. The coolest little secret was learning what she and her husband did before this endeavor. You'll have to go and ask her to find out. No spoilers but totally unexpected. Yes, no bathroom and very few seats, but you can order ahead and either get lucky with some seats inside during the winter or hang outside during the summer. Worst case is some amazing takeout to savor in your car parked outside. Didn't sample any of the candies or chocolates or ice cream saucers or cones as we were stuffed and had to hit the road, but will definitely be making this a staple on our VT visits. My only regret was not discovering it sooner. Their story is great and it makes you want to support them at every opportunity, a true mom & pop place.

Our group ordered a bunch of burgers and took heed of some reviewers' warnings-- the burgers are kinda small so you'll want a double or a whole other burger if you're hungry! For me, they were just the right size to satisfy! I got the sLAMBer burger which was SO GOOD, such an amazing mix of flavors that I couldn't stop gushing about how good it was! I heard similar sounds of approval from friends enjoying their burgers (the jam one was really popular in our group). Fries weren't spectacular but when you want fries, a GOOD fry is all you need. Now the honey pie! 3 of us ordered a slice and I think everyone enjoyed it! It's a sweet baked good unlike anything I've really had before and the salt flakes on top help to cut the sweetness. It was a bit too sweet for me to eat on my own in one sitting but I still liked it! I wish they delivered but we didnt mind picking up the order since it was only 6 min away by car! I originally thought the prices were sorta expensive for burgers but honestly not that bad because what you get is so delicious. I'm super interested in trying their 16 oz matcha milkshake... next time!
