We ( me and my two teenage kids) needed a lunch spot en route from Mt. Snow back to NY. I saw this was just past Bennington and got nearly 50 great reviews. It was an extra 5-10 minutes vs another route but we gave it a shot. Was NOT disappointed. I know it may look a little run down from the exterior but to me, that was the charm of the place. The husband-wife establishment has been there 30 years. The chef, aka husband, recovered from a stroke a few years ago with the love and support from his wife in rehab with him. He fought hard with getting back in the kitchen as one of the drivers. The burgers we had showed that same love and effort in each bite. You order by the pound so my son and I got 1 pounders. I think mine was called Charlie's hot mess (pictured here). It was cooked to perfection with juice dripping on each bite. One of the best burgers I've had in years. Tammy, the wife, was super friendly and I felt like I knew her for years after five minutes. The coolest little secret was learning what she and her husband did before this endeavor. You'll have to go and ask her to find out. No spoilers but totally unexpected. Yes, no bathroom and very few seats, but you can order ahead and either get lucky with some seats inside during the winter or hang outside during the summer. Worst case is some amazing takeout to savor in your car parked outside. Didn't sample any of the candies or chocolates or ice cream saucers or cones as we were stuffed and had to hit the road, but will definitely be making this a staple on our VT visits. My only regret was not discovering it sooner. Their story is great and it makes you want to support them at every opportunity, a true mom & pop place.
Definitely a solid burger from this local tradition that's been in business at the same location for 30 years. If you're looking for ambience or high end service, this isn't the place for you. They don't even have a bathroom! But what they do have are great burgers. You can order up to 2 pounds, which is huge! They serve everything is take out containers so you're so set to bring leftovers with you. We will be stopping in again the next time we're heading to Mt Snow.
The burger gets a 4.5 but as much as I liked it, it's hard to get past the "olden smell" and look of the place. Owner was super nice. Burger was really good. I probably would skip the candy case which might help my overall review. Go ahead, get a burger to go.
First the positive. Tammy is so nice. She made us feel welcome and did tell us that they had recently reopened after a 3 year hiatus with her husband's recovery from a stroke. I ordered a 1/2 lb bacon cheese burger with fries and coleslaw. Fries and coleslaw were top rate fresh and delicious. . Burger was good but nothing incredible. We sat down in a small chair by the window and realized the curtain was black with grime. The other point is tammy's disposable mask was really soiled and hard to look at. I would have felt much better if she had a fresh disposable mask on. I wanted to rate lower but giving it a 3 with the hope they are able to get back to where they used to be
If you aren't looking for this place you will drive right by. It is in an old house with antiques dotting the landscape. There is minimal seating inside, but it is worth the stop. This is family owned and the menu has anything you could want. Service was friendly and fast. We ordered burgers and they are cooked to order. This was quite possibly the best burger I have had in ages! They also sell homemade candy!
We've passed by this restaurant on daily basis through the years. Honestly we thought it was closed. The place needs an upkeep. The owner Tammy was very nice and accommodating. They have ice cream, no candies at this time. Lots of vintage items for sale and to look at while waiting for food. We were glad to have stopped today. Got Cajun burger and grilled Reuben both were delicious. Prices were decent as well. We will definitely come back.
A wonderful, succulent hand made burger and cooked to perfection. Don't let the outside fool you. Great homey atmosphere and a lovely surprise inside. Lots of home made candy plus some old favorites.
We had heard some good reviews about the charbroiled burgers at Tammy's and were very excited when the open sign was still lit on our way back from a great day of kayaking. My girlfriend ordered a quarter pound bacon cheeseburger I ordered the 1 pound three cheese bacon burger. The burgers can be ordered in size increments from half pound to 2 pound. They have nice seating outside on picnic tables on their deck as well as some indoor seating. We ate enjoying the cool summer evening. It took a while to get our burgers, but Tammy did tell us they were very backed up with orders and it would be 45 to 55 minutes to cook them, and it was just about that before we got our food. I can certainly understand why they were backed up with orders once we tasted the burgers. The real delicious beefy flavor of these burgers are what I look for. As I continued to wolf it down I had no doubt that it would be disappearing down my throat in mere minutes even though it was a full pound. The bottom of my bun started falling apart because of the juice from the burger, so I turned the burger upside down to eat it. They might need a strategy to prevent the bottom from deteriorating from the juice. Maybe some mayonnaise on the bottom bun since mayo repels water, or a piece of lettuce or tomato on the bottom. After we were done we got some ice cream from Tammy's, I had an ice cream sandwich with sprinkles which also hit the spot. We can't wait to go back!
Extremely friendly lady with a husband that cooks a DELICIOUS burger. None of that frozen patty stuff, hand crafted ground beef. I loved it.

We were absolutely thrilled to have stopped here on our road trip! This place was truly a treat! Extremely warm and thoughtful service and delicious food! We sat outside and even though it started to rain we were completely comfortable because we opened up the umbrella on the table. My husband got a milkshake and said it was delicious. My toddler ate every single bite of his chicken tenders and fries. The appetizer sampler was amazing! The sweet corn nuggets were my personal favorite and my husbands favorite was the wild chiles. We got to pick 2 dipping sauces and we chose Melba raspberry and Cajun ranch. Both delicious and unique! Next time we drive through we would stop here in an instant! read more

Stopped by Tammy's on our way to Vermont and it did not disappoint!! Tammy is the sweetest lady ever and the burgers were awesome. Don't forget to grab some ice cream sandwiches on your way out... you won't regret it. read more

My husband and I came upon this amazing find completely by chance coming home from VT. It's been over a week and we still can't stop licking our chops. The burgers were easily the most deliciously flavored juicy perfectly cooked patties we've ever tasted. Several times a day I wish I could have an order of sweet corn nuggets STAT. Tammy is the exemplar of hospitality as she equally divided her time between us and a large party of rambunctious teens. We can't wait to visit again, we only wish it was closer so we could go right now. Definitely you must plan to stop on any travels to or from that area! read more

I stopped here on my way to Stowe Vermont and I got a grilled cheese on rye which was perfect for the rainy weather. The bread was crispy and buttery with gooey cheese. The location is super pretty too. Good for a stop read more

I find myself going for drives to VT on a regular basis. Tammy's is one of those places, I would see every time I went to or from VT. Driving out to VT one day, my daughter said she was hungry and I asked if the nearest place would be ok. She agreed and we happened upon Tammy's Candy Kettle. Lucky us! All I really ever saw from the road, was the word "burger" every time I'd drive by, maybe because I like burgers, who knows. When we walked in, I was a little taken aback. It looked like a candy shop and I thought maybe they'd switched businesses and just kept the old signs. Turns out it's also a candy shop, which explains the name I'd never caught, seeing I had burger vision. The dining room is off of the candy shop area. The menu offers everything from sandwiches, to full dinners. Homemade soup was on the menu and I would have gotten some but the burgers are large. Maybe I'll stop by for lunch one of these days and try it. I got a bbq burger, and requested it medium rare. It came out perfect temp and the burger was very juicy and had a yummy bbq sauce on it. You also get a choice of bread for the burgers, onion roll, white, or wheat. I had the wheat roll and liked it enough to eat most of it. Usually I mostly eat just the burger. Burgers come with cole slaw and fries. I asked them to hold the fries so I could try the onion rings, which were very tasty. Lightly fried with thinly sliced onions on the inside. Works for me, I'm not a fan of big chunky onions that are hard to bite through.The small order is big, by the way. It would easily be enough for a small family. I don't eat cold slaw so I can't comment on that, but it looked good... for a food I don't eat. Service is very attentive and friendly. When we went, there was one waitress who handled both sections of the dining room with both efficiency and personality. As I said Tammy's, is also a candy shop and they have pretty much everything you could ever want candy wise. A good portion of the candy is homemade, which is surprising because the selection is quite large and some chocolates are very detailed. I got some chocolates for my father, who said they were "great" and some various bagged candy for myself and my daughter. The mini jelly fruit slices were seriously yummy! I might stop there just for those, if I'm not up for a meal next time I drive by. A lady I believe to be Tammy herself came out of the kitchen. She was very sweet and had that certain demeanor about her, that made me feel like I'd just had dinner at her house. She told me this was the 17th year for the business. I hope they're around for many more! EDIT 3/11 I had someone ask why I didn't give 5 stars, seeing I liked Tammy's so much. It's not something the business owner can probably help/fix all that easily but the parking situation for me is a bit rough. It was also a bit muddy. Both my issues. If you're a better parker than I am.. which I'm sure you are, you'll be fine. If you don't mind the mud.. which I wouldn't have if I wasn't carrying an infant and a bit nervous about slipping, you'll also be fine. read more

Made a random stop at Tammy's on my way home from a ski trip and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The great burgers, interesting decor/vintage items, and tasty chocolates made this pit stop such a wonderful experience. Tammy is a such a great lady who puts a lot of hard work and love into this store. Wishing her and her family the best with their business! read more
