Best breakfast I've had in the month ive been in the berkshires. Friendliest service as well.

Woke up starving so naturally I googled "diner near me". The Moonlight Diner & Grill appeared and wow, what a great choice! We got a classic diner breakfast, prepared perfectly and amazing service within minutes of our arrival. The true test of a classic diner, refilling our coffee without having to ask for a 2nd. Delicious coffee, btw. The food & service was excellent. My pictures will attract your attention. Classic diner with hundreds of very cool signs and posters throughout. I felt like I'd stepped into a 1955 burger joint/diner. I will be returning in the future (I live 4 hours from here), eager to try the rest of the classic menu. If you find yourself in this part of The Berkshires you must come to the Moonlight Diner & Grill! You're gonna thank me. read more

I have to say I love theme diners like this. Had that 50's vibe with retro pictures, 45 records hanging on the walls and booth seating. I would have ordered a milkshake if it wasn't so early in the morning. So instead I ordered a spinach, mushroom omelet with cheese, rye toast with their version of home fries which was really good (crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside). Whoever cooked that omelet knew what they were doing. The service here was very friendly and my order came out very quickly. This really is a great diner and their prices were ridiculously reasonable. read more

You get points for being a cute place, nice staff, and better than Chef's Hat which was almost inedible. This place, unfortunately, I thought the food was pretty awful. Tasteless and basic. So I wouldn't recommend it or go again. So sorry. It's just one of the only rodeos in town and that's how we ended up there. read more

We stopped in for breakfast our first morning in town it has a great authentic 50's feel and decor the prices are unbelievable low I had a NY strip and eggs cooked to perfection and was at my table in under 10 min my companions had omelets and said they were really good as well. But the real kicker for a breakfast place is the coffee and boy does this place shine there old school mugs hot and delicious I mean really good loved the attention and attitude of the staff a really nice find I would go out of my way to eat here. read more

One of the highlights of my recent Solid Sound trip was breakfast @ Moonlight Diner & Grille. Solid eats, great omelette & home fries! Though I must admit I was envying my pal Chaz's scrambled eggs and sausage links! I also noted that Moonlight pours a very generous cup of Joe... which makes sense since that reduces the amount of trips a server has to make. Smart!!! This is a go to diner for breakfast and lunch. The place is clean, the staff is happy and efficient and the food is reliably good. Except for the occasional burnt onion ring there is no complaint regarding food prep, service and quantity. Parking is plentiful and the old diner experience, including juke box, is comforting. Interesting menu not your standard diner fair. Burger was good, would have been better if they had hit medium rare or even medium but they missed those 2 options by a considerable amount. In their defense it was busy as all get out and those things happen. The potato chips were done in house I believe, more of a kettle chip and were very good; not overly salty. Dining room service was exemplary, very organized, efficient, friendly and the kitchen, though very busy, was on top of things just not my burger that day. Out of towners made to feel like out of towners. Sat down and were ignored. Had to ask the person bussing tables to please find our server. We finally ordered. Others, who appeared to be locals, sat down after us and received their food before us, and all we ordered were eggs/toast/home fries, not a complicated order (the home fries btw are frozen straight out of a bag, not homemade). Server brought checks to the other tables, ignored us. We had to get up and ask for our check AND had to get up to hand her the check so we could pay. We came here from out of town, the service wasn't good at all, we were waiting at our table for a good 15mins before anyone came to our table to service us. We finally were serviced our food and our plate had a big piece of a broken Egg shell in the food, my cup was still dirty, some of our food was still cold and the corn beef hash was definitely canned not fresh at all. There is outside seating but I'm not sure if it's in use. Every time we passed by it was empty and there was no offer of it when we went in for breakfast. The place was pretty empty with only one other table so maybe they save it for busier times. I liked the old time diner decor (although most looked like reprints). The menus were gross. Old and faded, so much so that some items couldn't even be read. That doesn't seem sanitary to me in Covid times. Our waitress was nice but not attentive at all. In fact, both waitresses sat at the counter playing on their phones with their masks down almost the entire time we were there. I hope service is better when it's busier. We should have gone with breakfast but they had liver and onions and my dining partner cannot turn down that diner staple. It was just okay - the bacon wasn't cooked with it and was clearly added as an after thought and the liver was cooked a bit too much. I got the Jackie Gleason burger and it was awful. I asked for medium and it was black from the grill and way overcooked yet somehow also way too greasy. I liked the idea of ranch used instead of ketchup and that was the only tasty part of the burger. It fell apart and was dripping grease and ranch dressing. The bacon was also added as a top like an aside and added nothing to it. The curly fries were okay but again a bit over cooked. I only ate about a quarter of the burger and my stomach felt queasy after. My partner finished it but even he felt a bit off and gassy from the grease. Prices were fine but I was disappointed we wasted our time with this food. I like to find new and cool places when on vacation and this was seriously lackluster. read more

Average diner food. Affordable. Service okay. Came here midmorning on a weekday with a party of seven including four kids. This is a little place that feels like it's been around awhile. Our food was as ordered and tasty. Their hasbrowns are the cubed potato style not the shredded kind (fine) but they don't automatically include any onions... which is odd. Coffee was nothing to write home about but it was hot and refilled frequently. Service was friendly but busy and it took more than a minute to get our check when we were ready to head out. We'll be back because the kids ate everything and had a great time. Probably best for this kind of meal or hangover cure, not a date spot or someone you want to impress. But if you're hungry, don't want to cook, and don't want to spend a lot it is 100 times better than driving to a McDonalds or other fast food breakfast. read more

We stopped in for a midweek excursion to North County in the Berkshires. The seating hostess was very friendly! Also the waitress was super cordial and hospitable. She answered all of menu questions about customiziing our orders with no hesitation. The amazing thing about this restaurant is the ability to order off the breakfast menu and the regular menu all at the same time. Delightful situation. The food was hot and fresh and the drinks were icy and cold. The chickens nachos were amazing with all the toppings and ooey goOey melts cheese. The French toast was good and flavorful. The turkey bacon triple decker club sandwich was perfection the onion rings were also very crispy and delicious and excellent tasting. Great lunch and vintage rockabilly ambiance. read more

I have been here several times when I come up visit family and always enjoyed the food and service. I don't know what has happened to the business but I went there today and it was horrible . The waitress got one person's order wrong 2 times in a row. She never came over to see if we needed more coffee or ask how our how are meal was. After we told her that the meal was wrong both times she never came back to our table she had another waitress bring us the bill. I h a have seen the waitress on their cellphone instead of taking care of the customers. Not acceptable. When you are at work you should not be talking on the phone and making the customer wait. I always thought Moonlight Diners were a franchise but the three (3) diners that I know were very different. This one was in Williamstown near Williams College in Massachusetts. The interior was like a 1950's diner with old black and white pictures of Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, and a picture of one of the Allman Brothers playing a guitar. Bordering the restaurant up on the walls were the small records that I remember playing the 45 vinyl when I am young and placing a plastic thingy in the middle so it would fit into the phonograph. This place should have been called Flashback Diner, one of my favorite diners in Hallandale, Florida. Three (3) young ladies waited on us and were very nice and attentive in a novice way. I ordered a cup of clam chowder and BLT sandwich. I didn't want to take a chance on anything else maybe except a burger but I didn't. My sister in law ordered spaghetti with vegetables but the broccoli was over cooked so she wasn't able to eat it (as she is vegetarian and very picky). My husband ordered the meatloaf and he ate it all. My dinner was edible and I finished mine. read more

There was a special of 2 blueberry pancakes w/ coffee for $6.00. Because my husband and I ordered the pancakes separately, the waitress didn't use the special pricing and charged me for my coffee. My omelet also came with home fries and toast for $6.99. I asked for only the omelet because I was getting a pancake instead. As you can see, I was charged the entire price for the omelet AND my husband was charged for his side order of home fries, which could have easily been considered the order that came with my omelet. I truly feel that this order ended up costing us $5.60 more than it needed to because of greedy overpricing in lieu of excellent customer service. read more

When I'm in the area this tends to be the default. I can always count on a hot cup of coffee and fresh food. I've always had breakfast so I can't speak for anything else. I had the most delicious pancakes here! When they were put in front of me I could smell how delicious they were going to be! My friends got them with chocolate chips and fruit inside and they loved them as well. Bacon was crispy and melted in my mouth. Great spot for breakfast - really nice people. We stopped here Sunday afternoon for lunch. Breakfast is served all day here. We all had veggie omelets. They were large, well made, and tasty. The staff was friendly. There are tables set up outside if you're uncomfortable inside - but be forewarned that they're just in the parking lot, no umbrellas or tent, so if it's really hot it may be too hot. We ate inside and felt safe: the tables were spaced apart so we didn't feel like anyone was "breathing on us". All in all a very positive experience. With the recent pandemic they have outside seating and it was only my second time doing outside seating but this was one of the best restaurants I have ever had breakfast at. I got the solid gold omlette and it was TO DIE FOR. Perfectly cooked and crispy, I also got ham on the side and house fries which were amazing. The service was great and everyone was so welcoming. Okay. I feel like I need to stick up for diners everywhere. A diner can be done right. It can be a wonderful combination of simply done, delicious classics, with a comforting atmosphere and jolly staff. A diner can be done wrong. In this case, you can not blame the inadequacies of Moonlight Diner on the simple fact that it is a diner. The cooks somehow screw up staples of home cooking such as blueberry pancakes, and don't make any attempt to rethink recipes that just aren't cutting it. The interior, is indeed along the lines of every other diner straight out of the fifties, but feels sort of empty in a larger space, so it loses the charm of a bustling restaurant. Finally, the staff isn't personable nor efficient. If my coffee doesn't get refilled once at breakfast (or no one even asks about refills), something's missing. Diners everywhere turn their backs in shame. read more

A good choice. It's a small place with a quaint atmosphere. There isn't a lot on the menus, but that's not a criticism. What they have is pretty good and cheaply priced. I would recommend this place for the atmosphere, and it's inexpensiveness. If I have one criticism it's of the home fries... They're not very good.
