Sadly is the only coffee shop in Williamstown. Get ready for prices past NYC, with mediocre quality and attitudes from the servers. I've tried most of food; everything not in the bakery is a total waste of money and is worse than from a grocery store. Baked goods are decent, if you're willing to go into debt for it. I'm sure you justify by using local ingredients- sadly, it doesn't show in the quality. Wished you used all the GMOs. And get ready to see every single person you know if you live in Williamstown and be unable to find a seat! It's delightful ;) read more

This place is such a gem and was right next to our hotel. They have EXCEPTIONAL muffins! Seriously, probably the best I've had and you know they're fresh because they also sell discounted day olds separately. We got blueberry (sooo many tiny blueberries) and pumpkin with white chocolate chips. They both had a gorgeous crunchy crust on top with flavorful and moist interiors. We also enjoyed our americanos, matcha with almond milk (unsweetened), and my husband enjoyed his cold brew. They have a large variety of teas, other desserts, and quiches too. Tunnel used to be great. Since I moved away, locals say it's gone downhill, and sadly I can now confirm. Coffee not great. Floors and tables dirty with trash and napkins. And five minutes after I paid for coffee and got out my laptop, the staff randomly shut down more than 2/3 of the total seating "due to reduced service" until closing. This was the middle of the afternoon. They instantly set up giant folding screens to block off most of the place that we had to awkwardly budge past to exit. And the staff directed everyone into the small front area to find new seats where... every seat was very obviously already taken. Lame and bizarre. read more

Tunnel City roasts and serves deep, flavorful coffee both near the farmers market and also at the Mass MoCA in North Adams. It is the type of place where you may not even want coffee, but when you walk by, you smell something heavenly and just have to treat yourself! I had a decaf espresso that was truly excellent with a good crema despite having a larger than expected liquid volume. The severs at the Mass MoCA where I ordered were super nice and happy to serve me even though they were about to close. Would definitely come back on a trip to either Williamstown or North Adams. read more

Visiting from NJ/ NYC. While I'm not much of a coffee drinker, I ordered two different quiches. They were amazing, chock full, and about double the size of a normal quiche. I had read really good reviews about this place, and as a coffee aficionado and former barista I was really excited to give them a try! Went in today and ordered a cappuccino. I was pretty horrified with what I got. I watched the barista scoop giant bubbly froth from a pitcher into a to go cup and then dump two shots of espresso on top. WHAT??? Not only does it look terrible, but you aren't incorporating your espresso into the milk and froth at all. And there basically WAS NO milk, just froth and non even micro froth. I figured maybe the barista was new? So I went back up to the register and let the cashier know that I was disappointed in my beverage. She apologized but then explained that that is how they make cappuccinos. THAT IS THEIR METHOD. She offered to replace my drink but I declined. Maybe if I had just ordered a latte or a cup of coffee I would have left this place with a better taste in my mouth (pun intended) but after seeing the horror show of that cappuccino I didn't want to try something else. Two stars for the tasty brownie, my husband's cup of decent tea, and the friendly and apologetic cashier. But I definitely won't be back. read more

I really liked the building with all of the art work. They are socially distancing, however, there's no way to know when it's safe to go in. Several people were lined up and finally most of us just went in and it looked like we were at the right number. They also have a public restaurant in the hallway and plenty of inside and outside seating so you can definitely relax and enjoy your coffee at this location. I ordered a cold brew and a mocha iced latte. The cold brew was done instantly but the mocha iced latte took forever. There were at least four staff members doing nothing behind the main counter and only one woman making all of the drinks at another counter. I actually worried they forgot about my coffee since it was taking so long. The coffee is just okay. The cold brew was good but the mocha was incredibly sweet. I wouldn't order that again. We eventually combined both and made a mocha cold brew that was pretty good. I was surprised neither coffee was super strong. I'm glad I checked them out and the campus downtown area is great with a lot of stores and public parking so it wasn't a wasted trip but they wouldn't be my first or second choice in the future. read more

This is a class A coffee establishment. As an attendee of the 2013 Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, I wound up staying @ the Williams Inn for the weekend. By my second day I had a hankering for a REAL cup of joe. Luckily, I ventured in to town & discovered Tunnel City. Needing a strong cup of wake-up, I ordered a Black Eye. I was surprised to find out that my server did not know that a Black Eye was comprised of "A cup of American coffee with two shots of espresso added. Also known as a Sling Blade, Depth Charge, Shot in the Dark, Cafe Tobio, Autobahn, or Hammerhead. " After I explained to him what I wanted, he let me know that they had a drink with one shot of expresso called a "Shultzie," He than ask me my name and told me that, henceforth, a cup of coffee with two shots of expresso would be called a "Stannie." My "Stannie" was quite good (and potent). It got me though some hot and humid weather that weekend. I made sure to swing by Tunnel City for another one on the way out of Williamstown! read more

I was nervous because these types of drinks can go either way, but this one was way, way good! My husband was jealous! However, he was in luck because his regular dark roast coffee was also excellent. Even though this place is right next to the museum and the counter guy looked exactly like you imagine a server at a coffee shop next to a museum would look, the service was a nice contrast to the stereotype. Delish joe; the WiFi was limited to the museum side and the power outlets had all been removed, which makes me think the proprietors made the wise decision to de-laptop-zombify the space in favor of the non-electronically-inclined visitors. That's a plus. I like the train/Hoosac tunnel theme although if you're going to go that way, make the full commitment and have some cutesier names for things and the back story of the deadliest tunnel ever constructed woven in to the theme a bit more. This coffee shop is tucked around the corner from Mass MoCA. You literally walk past it on the way to the museum door. I stopped here for coffee on my way out of the museum. I could have grabbed a cup at the cafe in the museum but I wanted to try this place because they roast their own beans. I got a cup of dark roast. It's definitely darker and bolder than others. There are some interesting drinks in the cooler - like a locally brewed root beer (which we tried). For a hipster place I was surprised that there was only whole milk or cream out. I had to ask for alternative milk (almond, soy, etc). read more
