Shelbie our server has been very rude every day we go in, she only gives us one menu between us and doesn't tell us if you change out bread for sour dough it's a dollar more. We waited 10 minutes one day and watched her on her phone drinking her drink by the register finally went up to ask fur a menu and she said Ill bring it to you before I could turn around she said it again, then she turned and hugged another customer, it's awful to go in a restaurant where the food is decent and very reasonable with specials but you can't ask for another waitress, she asked table before us if they wanted a refill but walked right by my empty cup?? I've known Jane many years we've eaten around the world never had a waiter or waitress be so rude. Stopped into Dalton Restaurant and had a great experience. It has a cozy Berkshires vibe. I had an omelet, coffee, and a sausage on a hard roll--all very good. My friend had the pancakes and they were perfect. Everyone at my table enjoyed their meals with no complaints. Kitchen must have been understaffed because I ordered the daily special... goulash, figuring I'd get this simple dish quick and waited almost half an hour for it before flagging my waitress down and asking for my food to go because I needed to get back to work. Very popular local, Family restaurant, friendly staff who are responsive to customer needs, we came in needing to grab a quick lunch prior to an appointment. Walked us through the menu, got us squared away with the fast preparation items and got us to our appointment on time. The menu was varied breakfast, lunch and dinner. Our meals were delicious. One of the great, fresh lunch specials is the Goulash on Wednesdays; I call it "Triple-Threat" Goulash. Has pepperoni, meatball, and sausage chunks in a rich sauce. With bread and butter, only $6.25! My husband and I were directed to the Dalton restaurant by a friend whom we were visiting for a wedding. They have the best blueberry pancakes that I've had in a long time. My husband had an egg breakfast which was also good. The portions give you plenty of tasty food, they have good service and a local atmosphere. This is a humble diner with a great deal to be humble about. Food is limited and very basic. Menus are handed out on scratch paper. Service is ok other than food takes too long to reach the table. Fries should not take 20-30 minutes. Pricing is proportional to the mediocre quality of the food. There aren't many choices in Dalton. An old-school little diner in the heart of Dalton, MA. I like this place best for breakfast--the omelets, pancakes, French toast, etc. are all amazing. You can also get a blueberry muffin grilled with some melted butter (which my brother usually orders as a side dish for his steak and eggs and homefries and bacon). This is a great diner that I have eaten at dozens of times over the years. All of the dishes are well prepared and inexpensive, but the breakfast menu is truly one of the best in the Berkshires. Thank God this place isn't in the touristy south Berkshire County area because you would pay a lot more for this same quality. Get the blueberry pancakes with the real maple syrup! The staff and owner are all super friendly folks who will make you feel right at home there. The owner makes an amazing chocolate cake that is so good my wife and I actually ordered it for our wedding cake four years ago and everyone still raves about it!! read more

OK food, typical greasy-spoon diner. Original owner left to form Ozzie's 10 minutes away in Hinsdale, which has stole the show. Unless you're desperate, take the extra few minutes and have Ozzie's famous homemade hash. read more

Can't entirely agree with those who write that this is great diner food. Yes, there are the classic items and the atmosphere is a throwback to the days of really good diners. But, flaws abound. Omelets are paper thin and often include canned/frozen vegetables versus fresh. I don't consider paying $8.95 for an omelette a good deal (in north or south county) if it's made with watered down eggs on a griddle and the cook can't figure out how to make it even a bit fluffy. Hash browns are overlooked and have tell tale sign of having been on the griddle for a few too many hours. Decent service but decent doesn't mean friendly. The restaurant could benefit from a good scrubbing (dirty tables, floors and booths). read more

A classic diner, a must-visit if you want lunch in Dalton or on the way through. Wanted some lunch before touring the Crane Museum, and this was the first place we saw driving toward Dalton. Talk about your throwbacks! A classic soda fountain on one side, a row of booths on the other. A server, Darcie, who's been there 14 years (probably one of the new hires!) and was fun and professional. Classic diner food. I had the special of the day, meatloaf, which comes with mashed potatoes and vegetables, but they gladly substituted with double cole slaw since I'm not a fan of mashed potatoes. It was $5.50 (did I mention that the prices were amazingly low?)! The huge slice of meatloaf was some of the best I've ever had and the cole slaw was classic with just enough vinegar to give it a light tang. We stopped in here to try a new place out. The waitress was super friendly & funny and had us laughing. I had a salad that had red (old) lettuce. I just picked at it. I couldn't really enjoy an old salad. I ordered the eggplant parm and was expecting a hot bubbling dish of cheesy goodness, instead it was 3 small pieces of re-cocked rubbery eggplant covered with a bit of cheese and sauce just sitting there on a plate. It was dried out and just didn't taste good. On the side, I has mashed potatos & gravy and that was too starchy and tasteless. Actually, it did have a taste. It tasted like paste. So not one thing I ordered was decent. My husband ordered a chicken & brocolli wrap and although it was ok, there was nothing exceptional about it. It tasted like dry chicken, cheese and brocoli, something that we could have made in our panini maker at home. Our bill was $40, we ended up spending $50 with tip. I am so dispointed to spend our hard earned money on lousy food. We didn't complain, because we just feel really unconfortable doing so. We will never be returning. read more
