Shelley's Kitchen is, first of all, CLEAN! Major renovations have been done without the loss of the ambiance that accompanies an old time diner. You'll never find a sticky ketchup bottle there. Shelley herself is a wiz on that griddle! Your food arrives hot and as you ordered it. Someone, usually Shelley, always asks if your food is to your liking and she remembers a remarkable amount of information as to who likes which foods cooked a certain way. I am awe stricken by her talent. The food choices are quality diner fare. Fresh, clean, well cooked and just what one would expect in a quality diner. Simple comfort food, accompanied by friendly and professional staff. The customers seem like family there. One gets the feeling of coming home when one steps through the door. To be transparent, Shelley and my brother are partners in Shelley's Kitchen, but my review is truthful. I'm serious about my food reviews, not even for family will I misrepresent any element of a review. Just sayin'.

    Great cup of coffee.

Best home fries ANYWHERE. Low prices. Don't miss this place- we have loved it for years. It's kind of a secret somehow.

I/we have never experienced poor quality food or service. The staff is always welcoming and the food never disappoints. Lindsay and Luke and the staff are very community oriented and host many community meal events with "a pay what you can" attitude. Otto's is truly an asset in the heart of the Berkshires.

And no, I did not "tell them how to run their restaurant" as the petulant owner says below. To be helpful, since I was solo, I asked for a counter seat not a table though there were a bunch empty. The attitudinal counter person snapped "there's a waiting list." When I asked how long, she made a face and said "maybe 15 minutes." Seeing that there were at least four empty tables (and no visible line), and not really wanting to wait 15 minutes for a counter seat, I asked if a two-top were possible. Now she flips out and yells "I said 15 minutes, what do you want a job telling me how to run this place?" I've worked pretty much every restaurant job in my youth from busboy to dishwasher to waiter to kitchen prep -- including in the Berkshires -- and would have been immediately fired if I ever went nuclear on a customer over a harmless question. Instead I got breakfast at another -- friendly, family-owned -- Pittsfield diner, had a great quick meal and tipped 30%. Some people get so full of themselves and their drama. You're serving eggs to your neighbors, not working the velvet rope at an exclusive club.

The food also exceeded our expectations. The fried brussels sprouts and salmon were both superb and perfectly cooked. It was all edible, but there were problems with every single thing we ordered. We started with the marinated mushroom & sausage flatbread: one of the better items and fairly tasty with a tomato sauce base, could have used a tart element like a balsamic drizzle to wake it up a bit. My husband got the Korean bbq burger, which at $27 was honestly a bit insane and doubly so when it wasn't good. There's not a single thing that was wrong, the whole conception is an epic fail. A beef burger should not have an intense taste of soy. Sorry, harsh but true. The exorbitant price is insult to injury. The ham and cheese croquettes should never have been offered with the cinnamon sugar dusting. Another bizarre pairing that makes no sense in your mouth and adds nothing. The dijonnaise was good if a bit mild... amp up the savory flavor and put more ham in the mix with a touch more salt please. Finally, the Public Salad was a good base but needs a bit of a vinegar component to make it sing. I'd recommend red wine vinegar, just a small splash in the dressing. Overall enjoyed it and the chicken was adequately moist. Thank you for having us.
