From the moment we walked in, the staff were more than friendly and accommodating, and the atmosphere was a 10/10 - Calm, sophisticated, moody, and modern. The food also exceeded our expectations. I wish I could give a better score, because I thought the service and ambience were both excellent. Sadly, the food left me wanting. It was all edible, but there were problems with every single thing we ordered. We started with the marinated mushroom & sausage flatbread: one of the better items and fairly tasty with a tomato sauce base, could have used a tart element like a balsamic drizzle to wake it up a bit. My husband got the Korean bbq burger, which at $27 was honestly a bit insane and doubly so when it wasn't good. There's not a single thing that was wrong, the whole conception is an epic fail. A beef burger should not have an intense taste of soy. Sorry, harsh but true. The exorbitant price is insult to injury. The ham and cheese croquettes should never have been offered with the cinnamon sugar dusting. Another bizarre pairing that makes no sense in your mouth and adds nothing. The dijonnaise was good if a bit mild... amp up the savory flavor and put more ham in the mix with a touch more salt please. Finally, the Public Salad was a good base but needs a bit of a vinegar component to make it sing. I'd recommend red wine vinegar, just a small splash in the dressing. Dinner is served Thursday through Sunday, 4-9pm. The kitchen closes at 9pm. Wish this establishment was open for more days and longer hours--I am certain there would be demand. We came Friday night, right at the opening. By 4:45pm, all the reservations started to arrive and the place was packed to the brim until we left, around 8pm. If you don't have reservations--make them. Or, arrive at 4pm, at the opening. Even then, you might be pressed for a table. Service is courteous and swift. I appreciated that we were not rushed and could enjoy our meal at our own pace, while tables around us changed from one party to another. Relaxing, peaceful ambiance. Clean, minimalistic, modern decor. Light music in the background. Great for any kind of outing, from a casual family/friends get together to an intimate date. Tables are close to each other, so be aware that you might be hearing your neighbors' conversations. Food was delicious. The price for such quality is fair, especially for entrees. Appetizers are a bit overpriced, sure. Again, you come here to enjoy the full experience, so if you feel like indulging in quality food--this is your place. $19 fungi flatbread is definitely overpriced and the most forgettable dish of our night. It was tasty and well executed--yes. Was it a standout or worth the money or your valuable stomach real estate? No. $16 four squash fritters were the most unique bite of the night. Sweet squash was whipped and fried into balls. The spongy, soft consistency reminded me of a souffle. Delicate flavor and texture. Smoked paprika aioli was a perfect sauce, to add some bright salty/sweet/umami tastes. $19 District burger was one of the best quality burgers I've ever ate--and I love burgers and have had my share. The patty was perfectly juicy. Flavor of the actual meal told us that this was quality chuck and that it was freshly made for us. Would definitely return for any burger at this establishment over and over. A perfectly satisfying bite. $32 pork chop [recommended by our waitress] was the star of the night. Get this. I'm not a fan of pork chops--they're usually too dry and bland. This one was superb--perfectly tender, with savory/slightly sweet taste, thanks to the cider jus that perfectly caramelized the top coating of the meat. Butternut squash puree, sweet brussels sprouts, and bits of crunchy apples created a perfect medley that I could have eaten without any protein all day long. What a perfectly balanced dish. The food was really tasty, the ambience while still casual was still aesthetically pleasing, and the service was great. We ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. The calamari had a great lemon taste, the truffle fries could've tasted more like truffle but the aioli was delicious, the Mac & cheese was some of the best I've had in a while. The addition of the tomato was great. We got mussels and they were super fresh and meaty. The marinara sauce had kale and sausage which was a nice plus. The cacio e pepe could've had more ... Pepe but the cacio was more in the sauce. It probably could've been advertised as ricotta bites, but they were still good! Lastly, the mushroom risotto I enjoy a lot. Very tasty. Through all of it, Lindsay was absolutely incredible. I honestly don't know how she did it. Even as the restaurant filled up, she somehow made it feel like I was her only table. My drink never got low, everything arrived quickly, and she checked in at exactly the right moments without ever making it feel rushed. She was friendly, sharp, and completely on top of everything happening around her. I've eaten at a lot of restaurants, and service like that is rare. Lindsay handled a packed room with the kind of calm, attention, and professionalism you usually only hope for. We came in on a Friday night and the wait was longish but not terrible. Recommend reserving but if you can't it's probably not a big deal. We weren't happy with the seats we got and they kindly reseated us and were very kind about it. The food was sooo good. They brought out bread first, which was great since we had waited a bit. The summer carbonara was delicious and fresh and creamy, and the watermelon salad had so many wonderful flavors going on. We left full and so happy with what we had just eaten. I can see why this is a popular spot. Here in town for a couple days and ironically had the District saved as a place to visit, and across from the Holiday Inn which is where I am crashing. Also can see why so many pictures do not come out as they probably should, it is a dark restaurant. Dark to the point where the older gentleman at the table behind me had to utilize his phone light to see his bill. Anyways, the food. Small menu which means they must have some damn good food. They do. Anyone who follows my reviews (thank you to the two of you) knows I enjoy my three course and never order a steak. No appetizers unless you are ordering a small plate and splitting a meal. I ordered a Coffee Rubbed Strip Steak (16oz) and the Mint Chocolate Cheesecake. Steak medium rare as it should. Phenomenal bite! Would devour again and again and highly recommend spending the money for one. Cheesecake I had back at my room. Made for a great snack as I watched a beautiful thunderstorm roll through. Ate it in two sections, the chocolate pretty much fell off so had that separately, ate the rest of the cake in minimal bites. May go back tomorrow and get another one. Took an hour tonight to get a hamburger. The food is usually good but tonight the first two hamburgers brought to table were very well done. My order was Medium Rare! In fairness the manager was extremely helpful and responsive. But a chef was on leave and the substitute was not well qualified. We live here and have always enjoyed the food. My husband and I have been long time (years) weekly customers of the District. We loved the food, atmosphere and wait staff. Recently there has been a turnover in staff and all the staff that had been there for years are gone. When we make a reservation and request a specific table, in the past we would always be seated in our requested spot. This is the third week we requested a specific table and did not receive it. My husband has food sensitivities and requested no dressing on his salad with the burger. No big deal, but the salad came out dressed and had cheese in it. He is dairy sensitive and has this same meal every week and there has never been cheese in it before. Very disappointed. Suffice it to say, there has been a major change in the District and we are sad to say we are not sure we'll be going back. read more

First off - I love the District, the wait staff, and the food.....except that I miss the Sumac Encrusted Salmon. I ordered it every time we visited. I have been telling everyone I know what a terrific dish this is and was disappointed at my last visit to find that it is no longer on the menu. The salmon that replaced it is good but not nearly as good as the Sumac Encrusted Salmon. We'll be back because we love you guys but this dish will be sadly missed. read more

Went here before a show at Colonial Theater. Our waitress was very friendly and was willing to give her opinion on what I should order. I was torn between the rigatoni and the salmon. I chose the salmon and was asked how I would like it cooked, something I had never been asked so I thought that was a nice touch. My hubby got the steaks The cleric puree alone was yummy!. A friend and I took a day trip outside of Albany, to Pittsfield MA. When looking for a place for dinner, and considering vegetarian options, this was this best place to go. When we walked in the door, I knew I chose the right place. The wait staff was so friendly and welcoming, the crowd here was exactly the vibe I enjoy. We were seated in the most perfect corner window seat, hence the gorgeous photos. We ordered drinks, however I was in a beer mood and my friend wanted wine, so we didn't try any crafted cocktails. The cocktail menu seemed great along with the beer and wine list. I had two different IPAs (a drink I only have on occasion) and my friend ordered a *crisp* glass of white wine. All the drinks were great and there wasn't too much of a wait between drinks. We started with a simple order of truffle fries as an appetizer, damn they were perfect and it was a huge bowl. We couldn't finish them before the entrees came. For entrees we ordered the salmon, pistachio pesto pasta, and the mussels over pasta. Not one complaint at the table. The salmon I ordered was *perfectly* cooked. I should order salmon out more often because I never make it so perfect. The sides added to the flavor and made perfect bites. My friends loved their dishes. There was barely any to bring home. District is putting out some great food and great vibes, definitely check it out! read more

I'm not usually one to leave reviews, but this experience definitely needs to be shared, and I hope the restaurant management takes note. After a cold, wet day on the slopes, we were really looking forward to a nice dinner--especially since our family had a fantastic experience the night before with both the food and service. Unfortunately, tonight's experience was very different. While the food was still great, our server, Chloe, really soured the experience. She spilled drinks multiple times, missed items from our order, and handled everything in a careless manner--almost throwing things on the table. To make matters worse, she didn't apologize for any of it. Even though automatic gratuity was added, we still ended up leaving a $100 tip that, frankly, she didn't deserve. Very disappointing, especially after such a positive experience just the day before. As someone who works in the restaurant industry, I would never let this type of service slide at one of our establishments. I hope management takes this seriously and addresses it. read more

So it's been a few years since I visited District - and while still a decent experience, I'm sorry to say that it's lost a step in its menu execution since that time. We started with some appetizers of the cheese board and the fried brussels sprouts. The cheese board was excellent, a nice selection with good accompanying compotes and a deliciously savory garlic jam. The brussels sprouts were quite good as well, especially the slightly charred outer leaves. However, the accompanying yogurt dip was quite bland and the sprouts were better off being eaten unadorned by the dip. For our main entrees, my wife had the pan-roasted salmon which was only okay, the salmon being overcooked and dry. I had the duck confit which was also very dry. This was unfortunate and while the duck skin was nice and crisp, one expects duck confit to be unctuous and moist, not hard and dry. The accompanying side dish of chilled chili soba noodles - well, while a nice try at originality, it simply did not complement the duck. It would have been much better to have had something warm to accompany the duck, especially now that the season is cooler. The dessert was much better, however: we had the flourless chocolate cake and this was smooth, rich, and not too sweet. Service was prompt and friendly. read more

The interior is huge with large windows and seating is limited due to covid. Just complain is that the table that we got is too high for my two nephews, they said they don't have a high chair. Service: few people serve us here and they are all nice. I love it when they explained to us each dishes. Superb crew! Food: Everything was so delicious! Omg thinking about it I want to come back! CHEESE BOARD: omg this is one of my favorite! Everything that in it is good! Some cheese are from France. The garlic jam was so good that I want to get a whole bottle of it. MAC n CHEESE: omg this is good, it has tomatoes in it and it definitely taste better with mac and cheese! So creamy too! GRILLED PORK PORTERHOUSE: perfectly cooked pork, so juicy inside and the butternut squash puree that comes with it is divine! GRILLED FLAT IRON STEAK: the steak is so moist and juicy, the side vegetables was perfectly seasoned. I ate everything in 10 mins, it was so good! They're open on Sundays which is more then I can say about most decent places in the area. The place is decorated with unique art, to each their own. The server Caitlin was phenomenal and a pleasure to speak with. Drinks were strong and delicious. Food was also delicious and came out promptly. Our peach caprese was beautiful.
