We went to Public on recommendation and we weren't disappointed! It was the best meal that we had on this trip! We did get there slightly before 5pm which allowed us a quieter atmosphere for the first part of our meal. We ordered the mushroom and fennel sausage flat bread for an appetizer. It was amazingly flavorful and had super fresh mozzarella. We also both had a cup of the cold pea soup. It was thick and creamy and had a beautiful presentation. For our main meal, my husband ordered the salmon. He said that everything was cooked perfectly and it was quite flavorful. I had the public burger and truffle fries. The burger was juicy and huge! The fries were nicely seasoned. The service was great, as well. Our waitress was attentive and the manager came by and spoke with us, as well. We came here after visiting the Clark. Very nice atmosphere with great lighting, comfortable seating and beautiful original artworks for sale by a local artist. This spot is popular and was relatively full even for an early dinner at around 5. My fiancé and I had the Brie burgers. Loved the concept but note that it seems more of a Brie spread than actual slices of Brie. Still tasty though. I didn't love that the bun was a tad cold. The Parmesan truffle fries are on point! So amazing! Portions for the burger and side of fries are generous. The spanakopita app was tasty but a bit salty. Service was okay. I'd totally return here if in the area again but, IMO, it didn't quite live up to the hype of earlier reviews. The food's definitely solid but not at the level I'd make a special trip here. There are two gender neutral restrooms, which were well appointed but the floor was a bit slippery due to folks tracking in snow in the winter. They may want to consider extending some mats to the restrooms. I was worried about my Mom, who is a senior with some mobility issues, slipping on the floors near the bathrooms. read more

If you're in North Adams, PUBLIC is the place to go for dinner. The ambiance is lovely and the service is excellent. We started with the cheese board, which is a must order, and added the charcuterie, along with baked clams. For our mains, we chose the heritage bone in pork chop and the roasted statler chicken breast. Everything was absolutely delicious. It's a quick walk if you're staying at a nearby hotel and comes highly recommended by locals. A must visit spot. I would come back in a heartbeat. read more

Stopped by for a late lunch after visiting Mass Moca with a party of 6 and no reservation and we were seated without a wait. The interior is welcoming and spacious with art pieces lining the walls making it a nice place to wind down. I got to try the roast beef sandwich and the fish and chips and both were fine/a bit underwhelming. Not sure what I was expecting for the roast beef sandwich but the beef was thickly sliced and kinda small compared to the amount of fries it came with. On the fries, I like crispy fries but these are borderline chips with how overcooked they were. The fried fish were fried well- light and crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. read more

Needed to fortify before going to Mass MOCA and found this pub. It was crowded, a good sign, and we got a table by the window. The service was fast nd friendly. Ordered the falafel plate, which came with a green salad. Falafel was strangely moist rather than crispy and salad was more or less naked. The pulled pork sandwich (with botled dressing) looked lonely on a large platter with homemade potato salad. $50 lunch for two is not a good value for sandwiches. read more

We were in town for a wedding and had dinner here on Thursday evening. We had reservations but opted to sit at the bar. Met some great people! The atmosphere, staff and food were amazing! The bartender suggested the pasta not on the regular menu but specially made with a spicy red sauce with sausage and I added shrimp! It was delicious! We started with tempura chicken tenders. My husband enjoyed them so much he had them again for dinner with the Mac and Cheese which was also excellent. The bartender underestimated my husband's appetite! Nice menu. Good service and a clear favorite with the locals. It is a busy place so a bit noisy. Guests had the salmon with Berenaise sauce and wild rice. It was nicely seared and tasty. I had their fall chicken dish with carrots, polenta and Brussel sprouts with an Apple cider sauce which was yummy. Pour a very respectable cocktail. Wine list pricing wasn't too stepped on. The PUBLIC was a cool and eclectic spot with great drinks and nice appetizers. Our server, Samantha, was really awesome and down to earth. She had some really good drink recommendations and when we got the wrong fries, she promptly returned with the truffle fries free of charge. My husband liked his burger but he said it wasn't the best burger he had. I ordered the hanger steak and it was prepared to look more like steak tips (large chunks of beef). It wasn't my favorite. The accouterments were awesome and my favorite item was the sugar snap peas. Unfortunately, the carrot purée was split or they had added a ton of EVOO on the plate before adding the purée. read more

Nice place to have a special meal we were celebrating a birthday we were seated quickly and greeted by the server this place is upscale so you would expect a certain level of service and food . So lets start with the cook was not able to/ willing to accommodate a food allergy (screams pre made) so other choices were made. Then the water carafe was chipped and cracked at the top don't know how the staff missed it they replaced it with a new one then when my meal was served as I was biting into it there was a funny feeling in my mouth I then pulled out a piece of plastic wrap the chicken was fried without being unwrapped and the flavor of burnt plastic was stuck in my mouth . I had to take the plate back to the kitchen myself as nobody was coming by the table the owner stopped by the table and apologized and said and I quote "hey everyone makes mistakes " and did nothing but make a new one so I ate after everyone else was finished... So the owner was correct everyone makes mistakes as I did going to public eat and drink for a meal read more

Unfortunate experience. Made a reservation and went here recently before a MassMOCA event, knowing full well that they'd be inundated with diners before the show, so we tried to order simple small dishes. When we got to the location, which is in a food court in an old mill complex, we promptly called to say "we can't find you, but we're here." We got sketchy directions from the guy on the phone, who gave up our table five minutes after the rez time, despite our calling. Really? The hostess was sweet and made good on the error. She sat us at a fine table. Another woman came and gave us menus, but we had no idea if she was our server or not. After waiting (and waiting), we saw someone going to a large table seated after us, so we asked to get our orders taken -- very politely. The hostess did so. The food came, but there was one entree missing. We dared to ask the server, who had given us the menus, if it was coming. She flew off the handle, talking about having only two hands, then threw tongs for the chicken wings on the table. The hostess returned to tell us the order was never put in, and felt badly about it. The hostess couldn't have been nicer or more apologetic for this bizarre behavior. We were fully aware of the pressure and were trying to make things easier by ordering fast and simple things, and even giving our credit card early to save time. I should add that ALL the food was great. They just didn't handle pressure, nor give respect to the customer in this case. We gave the hostess a good tip, and we hope to $%^& that she didn't have to share it with her immature, temperamental co-workers. Don't order the falafel, it was burnt and inedible. Maybe because we arrived at 8:40 and the kitchen closes at 9. I ordered it there previously and liked it, so I was very disappointed this time I could not eat it at all, it was black on the outside and undercooked in the middle of each falafel ball. I have never seen the like. Even the waitress said usually they are a brown color, not black like these. This is the first restaurant I have been to that offered de-alcoholized wine. The bartender was adamant the sparkling rose was the one out of the two to get and he was right. It was great! Not sweet. Nice dryness to it. Tasted very similar to regular sparkling rose. The food was ok. I was honestly most excited that a restaurant had a de-alcoholized wine offering and it was good. Most places you go to offering "mocktails" offer overly sweet ones or kid drinks like Shirley Temples. I wish more places offered good de-alcoholized wines. Don't Waste Your Money on Their "Wine" Skip the bottles at this place. If you must order by the glass, taste it first - they're selling garbage and hoping you won't notice. I recently celebrated at this spot and got ripped off. Ordered what they claimed was Zweigelt (a fantastic Austrian red) for $60, but received some bizarre, warm, fizzy red mess that should've been served chilled. When I pointed out this wasn't Zweigelt the bartender said it was "good and drinkable." We were stuck with an expensive bottle of what was essentially warm carbonated vinegar masquerading as wine. Save yourself the disappointment and your wallet the damage. read more

Fantastic experience The place was very busy for a Tuesday night, so my expectations were high, and they did not disappoint! The beer list included many local breweries from the Berkshires/Massachusetts. There was also a nice wine list, though that's not usually my go-to I was here on my own, so I skipped the appetizers and ordered a Bistro steak (with smashed garlic potatoes, spinach and kale, and a green peppercorn sauce. I ordered the steak 'medium' and I'm It sure I've ever received a more textbook medium in my life. Bright pink, warm center. I would bet the temp was exactly 130°. I complimented the steak and asked my server if it was actually a 'Bistro' cut (given these are harder to come by) - he said he wasn't sure, but it was one of his favorite menu items. He came back not more than 2 minutes later to confirm that it was a bistro cut and went over what the kitchen told him about it. Nice touch! The crème brûlée was a perfect way to end the meal. This is our go-to place when staying in North Adams, MA. Always delish and accommodating for food allergies in our family, (GF, DF, V). We all had mocktails last night, 02.15.25, way fun. We had starters and shared them all tapas style. The meatballs, Brussels sprouts, and French fries were a meal to themselves. These are the only meatballs, Brussels sprouts, and fries you will ever want. Main dishes were equally awesome. My favorite was the tri tip steak and smashed garlic potatoes. The only bummer of an item was my daughter's Hawaiian chicken sandwich. It lacked the quality and attention as the rest of the menu. (Slice the large monolithic chicken breast into multiple horizontal slices! Instead of pineapple slabs do a a pineapple salsa!) Other than that the staff and atmosphere are 10/10! I was visiting north Adam's to see the Turrell exhibit at MassMOCA, chose Public because of its proximity to the museum, and was enthusiastic about enjoying a cup of mushroom soup I saw in the menu. This was a great disappointment; it was a creamy tasteless inedible concoction that arrived ice cold. Ordered the pasta dish, a summer Campanella that was lacking most of the components listed in the menu, including a different kind of pasta and no flavor. My companion ordered three eggs listed in the menu as 1.50 each, but were charged 10.95. Manager said that price applies only when you order eggs as a side. We complained about the two items we ordered that weren't eaten, he didn't apologize or tried to make it right. Our server was extremely nice, and I could see he felt bad, but manager was rude. While the ambience in this place is quite nice, it has Mediocre food and mediocre service. I started my meal shortly after they opened, and was seated in a heavy traffic area, even though there was many tables open that would've been more comfortable so I had to deal with the servers around me habitually hitting my chair. I was hoping to ask my server if I could please move to another area, but they didn't return until the end of my meal, check in hand, where they didn't bother to ask if I wanted another glass of wine or a dessert. I am upping my review and adding a fifth star. There reason is that I changed my dining strategy and it worked really well. When you come to Public, think of it as great quality, high end food for under $20 per course. Previously, I ordered the full dinner. But, those have always been good, but not great. There are better $30 restaurants in the Berkshires. However, the "mid" plates agree fantastic and the flatbread looked great. I ordered the brisket and sauteed onion tacos. Delicious. Three decent sized tacos with a good serving of tender brisket with the fixings on a soft corn tortilla. I could not have been happier. Sure, it did not come with a salad or side dishes, but it didn't matter. It was really wonderful for a mid sized dinner. I enjoyed every bite. My wife had the Mediterranean pasta, which she greatly enjoyed. I did not taste it, but the aroma was great. Our friends had a burger and a chicken teriyaki flat bread, respectively. The burger was a huge, meaty patty with a fried egg on top. He devoured it. Normally, it comes with fries. But, he substituted a really fresh looking salad. A great choice. And, the flatbread had perfectly cooked chicken. So, come for the kids.... Not the bigs. And add a star. read more

The duck, while a bit on the small side, was also perfect with a delicious sauce as an option and a yummy farro mix on the side. Wait staff very attentive and a nice selection of beer. Vibe in the place was fun and relaxed but got serious as the evening reservations piled in. Best to book as soon as possible since you can't even count on a seat at the bar on busy nights. I enjoyed this place. We got there shortly after they opened at 4, and it took us a few minutes to order. Then it took the food 45 minutes or so to come out. That's not super super long or anything, but when they're not busy it's a little while to wait. I am sure the early time was to blame but still a bit annoying. I got the beef short rib; the beef was pretty good but the polenta was the star. It was really creamy and rich. My mom got a pork tenderloin, which was a little cool but tasty with a really good sauce. Ultimately Public is a good choice with a few issues but I'll be back. read more
