Chips and Guac (8/10): Guac was very solid. Chips were crunchy. Ceviche (4/10): Not good. Mahi mahi did not taste fresh. Texture and taste were both kind of off. The ceviche also wasn't sour enough. I wish our waitress had warned us we were ordering chips twice, as this dish came with chips as well. Tacos de Hongos y Nopal (7/10): Pretty good! The mushrooms and cactus were pretty tender. Empanada (8/10): Loved the texture of the masa. The stuffing was delicious, as was the pistachio mole. Broccolini (4.5/10): The broccolini was not cooked tender enough. The stems were pretty tough to chew through. The flavor of this dish was too one-note. Lacked complexity and balance. We had some really good food, but the ceviche and broccolini kind of ruined it for us. Location next to MoCA is really convenient, though. We did like the ambiance. read more

Mezcal, mezcal, mezcal! And food but let's get back to the mezcal menu which is comprehensive. I had an incredible watermelon marg and subbed mezcal which was the correct choice. All menu portions were sizeable but save room for dessert because the Mexican chocolate mousse and churros are worth it. Definitely worth a stop during museum visit or otherwise. read more

We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a dinner at Casita and had a lovely time. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and we sat on their cosy patio with our dog. We started with some spicy pineapple margaritas and chips and guac. Both were excellent! for mains we had the carne asada and the vegetarian tacos and enjoyed both. Excellent Oaxacan cuisine served here at CASITA on the MASS MOCA campus. Highly recommend the Mole Negro with its depth of flavours and spice. The Tlayuda is gigantic and filled with delicious variety of ingredients. We were at Mass Moca for the freshgrass festival and arrived hungry so stopped in at Casita for dinner prior to being let into the venue. I was pretty underwhelmed. For the weekend due to freshgrass it was a limited menu and counter service that was brought to your table when prepared. I ordered a margarita which was very good, and the mahi mahi plate. The food consisted of a salad lightly dressed with evoo, black beans, rice, 2 roasted green onions, and ~4 oz of mahi mahi. Also included was a foil package containing 6 flour tortillas. There was a small salsa bar which was super nice. It consisted of pickled veggies with jalapeños, pickled onions, and several different salsas to choose from. While I'm not positive, I'm pretty sure everything was made well beforehand. Everything from the wilted mixed green salad to the fish to the beans was the same temp and it wasn't hot. I couldn't think of a better way to end our afternoon at the MoCA then to grab an early dinner right on the campus. The salad was fresh, the side dishes were loaded with flavor, and there were many vegetarian options! The ice cream, which is made by another vendor in the museum that is local to the area, was exceptionally good Colan the Mexican chocolate had a nice chocolate base with a good amount of spice, and the cinnamon ice cream was loaded with flavor. The Casita patio overlooks the main museum entrance and is beautifully shaded in the early afternoon in the summer by cantilevered umbrellas. Our server was really friendly and the food came out promptly. This was a great experience for us and our guest who was visiting for the day! Delicioso! Everything was so fresh and well made. Our suggestions: Kale Caesar - dressing was creamy and so garlicky and the crunchy bits on top were a nice contrast. The ambiance here is truly adorable! I love the decor and the cute plants they have around. I really do enjoy eating Mexican food. I ordered their quesadilla it was cooked to perfect and a nice balance of meat and cheese. The tacos I ordered were pollo and carne asada. It had a nice serving of meat on the tortilla. After confirming that all of their cocktails contained citrus, I ordered a plain gin martini up, and because, as I explained to the waitress, I am allergic to citrus, I asked for an olive.... It was delivered with a lemon peel. The food, quite pricey, was disappointing at best. I ordered short ribs carnitas... Expecting the meat to be removed from the bone and presented tastefully, instead I received two bones with barely any meat at all. What was there was tough and very hard to remove, especially because I wasn't given a proper knife. The tortillas were fine. The guacamole was fine though a very small portion. The tacos were goodness wrapped up in crunchiness, complemented by a slightly hot sauce garnished with radishes. The enchiladas were vegan with a hard vegetable filling which makes no sense. Menu is extremely misleading with outrageous prices. Adding a side of rice and beans (which should be a given at any Mexican) was 7+ dollars on top of the already pricey "enchiladas." Overall the worst Mexican I have ever endured. This place is a gem - we're lucky to have food of this caliber in the Berkshires. I finally branched out from their fried chicken sandwich which is to die for, and had the pollo asado with greens. I see that another poster apparently did not care for the mushroom taco, but mine was really good & flavorful. I really like the ambiance and decor of this restaurant, but I can't recommend the food. Tacos were both greasy and bland. We tried all four, of them the chorizo was ok, the carnitas was edible, and the mushroom/poblano and barbacoa were close to inedible. Disappointing that there was only one non-meat option.
