Through our adventures in Bennington, we eventually found our way to the Apple Barn. Such a cute stop for some souvenirs and treats. We ended up coming by about 90 minutes before closing. As we headed toward the back of the shop to see if they were selling creemees, we saw they had samples of apple donuts out. They were tasty, but definitely could tell they were made earlier in the day as they were not too fresh. We assumed they were probably trying to clear out their inventory for the day. We eventually found the soft serve machine and ordered a maple creemee. I should start by saying that I'm not a big fan of maple, but if I'm going to try a Vermont creemee, I had to order a maple one. It was perfect, great texture and just a hint of maple taste. My husband asked to try it and he ultimately claimed it as his own, so we ended up buying a second one. So good! Service was okay. We got a weird vibe from the lady who was helping us. She seemed annoyed and very short while we were checking out the food and trying to order our creemee. Maybe because they were going to close soon? Not sure. But that was the only negative about our experience. The Apple Barn is definitely a cool spot to visit if you find yourself in Bennington. You can definitely get some tourist shopping/souvenirs and enjoy some treats while shopping. We would definitely come back if we found our way in Bennington again.

In Bennington randomly for a doctor's appointment with my son. Reached for Yelp to guide us for a…read morebrunch-time sandwich - this led us here. Outside looked like a furniture/nicknack store. Typical "I love VT" t shirts and stuffies in the window, $400 syrup, and artsy cards and candles etc. Making our way to the back was a small nook of seats and tables and a breakfast/sandwich/bagel menu. To say we were skeptical was an understatement. My son ordered a Southwestern steak and egg sandwich on a rainbow bagel. I had a dill pickle chicken salad sandwich on an everything bagel. Add in a coffee, a hot chocolate, two cans of Diet Coke (and a small cheesecake round for my son) and we were all set. Menu was way more reasonably priced than we expected. Average bagel sandwich (which they fill amply) was roughly $10. All of the fillings were very good. Well seasoned. Creative. Again, exceeded our initial expectations. Even the bagels were surprisingly good. Please note I grew up in NJ so a bagel is essentially unattainable to me north of the Tappanzee Bridge. I was expecting "airport quality," however, it was not half bad. Chewy and tasty for the area. Service left me with two very distinct feelings. 1) the people were AWESOME. Friendly, attentive, seemingly happy to be at work (a rarity). But... 2) there were 6 total customers in the store (some simply reading books) and yet it took 16 minutes for our coffee and hot chocolate and roughly 30 for the sandwiches. Was so weird to experience the quiet of the store - yet the ticket time and wait of a bustling morning at a deli. Oh well. Was a pleasant place to be. Will likely find a different place next week following our upcoming appointment. But was not mad at the experience.

I think the imperial IPA was our fav. We shared the Buffalo cauliflower as an app and the big cranberry salad. It was plenty filling and perfect for an afternoon snack. Flavor on the food was just lacking. Even the Vermont cheddar cheese was bland and only a whisper of sharpness. The home made chips good but lacked anything special. The true problem of this place is the ownership/management. We went there little after it opened. To see a table with a 5 gallon bucket of utensils and servers doing their side work on a table you have to walk past to get to anywhere in the seating area. Then we come to the management/owner. My biggest pet peeve is doing the books or daily paperwork in the guest area. You have an office or a place away from your guests. Not in full view and with in ear shot of your guests. And not in a place where sound carries. The BIGGEST complaint is the language. You are the leader of your staff. You set an example for the behavior and attitude of your staff. Dropping F-BOMBS and other vulgar language is not at anytime acceptable. Clearly the servers knew it and didn't thankfully follow your lead. This is NOT your buddies garage or basement. You are having people come in and hearing your language and seeing and clearly hearing your behavior I can not recommend going here. If it was based on food maybe. But clearly the ownership and leadership will keep me away from here. Such potential wasted by such poor work ethics.

The waitstaff was pleasant and helpful with my wife's allergy needs and the menu had something for everyone. My pastrami sandwich wasnt great as it was rather chewy but thats a risk anywhere i've ordered it. I just wasnt in a burger or turkey club mood. Fries were excellent hand cut hot and crisp! Lots of pie choices and it all looked scrumptious but we opted to drive off for a Maple creemee nearby. Yep i would stop here again. And get the pie!

We lucked out when we arrived and snagged the last open booth. Service was quick, with our drinks and food arriving fast, and I loved seeing a selection of hot sauces right on the table. Not pictured is the cinnamon roll we split because it was too good to wait for a photo. The Texas burrito and chili got rave reviews from my dining partner, and my omelette was solid, though interestingly assembled. The fillings were layered rather than chopped and mixed throughout. Once I cut it all together, the flavor came through nicely, and the home fries were great. We'll definitely be back, and I'm already eyeing a few other dishes to try next time.
