Rum cakes from Goodway Gourmet are definitely a good way to go. First experience someone gave me a slice of their rum cake and I thought it was okay. Then I seen their stand at taco fest and just wanted to support the business... I had no idea that there were multiple flavors of rum cake, I thought it was just one type of cake. After tasting a few samples , I fell in Love with the Salted Caramel Coconut Rum Cake... It was amazing! I bought the 1lb cake and was told it lasts 3 weeks in the fridge. I liked it even more when it was cold. I did not share with anyone, go get your own, they deliver lol! Customer service is on point. Im a fan now and Will definitely support this business again! read more

Of all the Rum Cakes I've enjoyed, THIS is the absolute best! Moist, flavorful and light with a perfect crumb. All varieties are delicious (Coconut is my favorite) and of equal excellence. The customer service is very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend Goodway Gourmet! read more

I first had this cake at the Apple Festival in October. The cake was absolutely delicious and I kicked myself for only buying one. Fortunamely, they ship and I've got my rum cakes for the holiday. The cakes are moist and truly addictive. read more

God, this is the BEST fucking rum cake I have EVER had. It's the perfect amount of dense, rich, moist, buttery, and sweet, and the edges have the most amazing caramel-esque flavor. They'll come down to NYC occasionally for a street fair or food festival and I love getting it then. As I'm typing this, I'm about to order 3 more online just because it's that good. Seriously, give these a try if you can get your hands on one. P.S.: The first ingredient is sugar, which I find absolutely hilarious lol read more

Best Gluten Free or Regular Carribean Rum Cake ever. Bought both you cannot tell the difference. I'm sure it's a ton of calories but very moist and delicious. If you live near Troy pick up one of these if you are serving friends that have Celiac disease or are gluten intolerant. They came to the BIG E in MA last year. Went to Cooperstown and was going to stop on my way home but closed on weekends. read more

I ordered a Gourmet Caribbean Rum Cake for a friend that lives in NY (I am on the West Coast). He and his family have raved about the rum cake here, saying it's the best they've ever had. It was very easy to place an order online and it was delivered much sooner than I had anticipated, which was a nice surprise. I did request that a note be included with the rum cake but the recipient didn't receive one. This was a little disappointing as it was a special occasion. I know it was a minor detail but when you pay $45+ for a rum cake + shipping, you would hope a note request would not be missed. I understand that things happen but I emailed the bakery about this and they never replied to me. read more

It's been several years since I've written about the place that sells fantastic rum cakes, and I'm always tempted to buy one as I pass them in the Colonie Center Mall. But recently they have started mentioning on Facebook that they also have cinnamon rolls. I've never noticed the rolls at their kiosk in the mall, so I was enticed by their Facebook post announcing that cinnamon rolls are sold on Tuesday and Friday at their main office in Troy for local delivery or pickup. The only catch was that you had to call to place your order by noon the day before. Oh, and they are only sold by the dozen. This worked perfectly for me since I had an appointment a few blocks from their office on Friday. I arrived at the agreed upon time and was requested to have a seat in the reception area since they had sold out, had to make more, and were now packaging my order. I had no idea what to expect. We hadn't even discussed price on the phone. Since this bakery supports a worthy cause, The Redemption Christian Academy located in the same building, I was prepared to NOT haggle. When the box of rolls was brought to the reception desk I was somewhat startled at how large it was. It probably could have held a full sized sheet cake. Looking through the acetate window in the top of the box I saw 12 large rolls, larger than the buns at local supermarkets, but about the same size as those that I like from my Clifton Park Italian bakery. When I asked how much, I was told $30, the same that I would have paid at the C.P. Italian bakery for twelve individually purchased buns. You could tell that each roll had been baked separately from the others, not sharing a common tray, because all the side surfaces of each roll were golden brown from unrestricted access to the oven's heat. There was plenty of cream cheese icing on each roll. Each roll is just about a meal in itself. The bread portion has a nice flavor and there is a decent amount of cinnamon and brown sugar filling in each roll. I chose to put my roll in the microwave for a few seconds (15?) and found that it was a challenge to try to eat it in my hand. I resorted to fork and knife. While I didn't find the rolls to be overly sweet, they are very rich and filling. My only negative comment is that two of four that have been eaten at this point appeared to have been under baked in the center. The rest of the rolls are now in the freezer for future enjoyment. (UPDATE) These cinnamon rolls are even great the next day at room temperature! read more

Whenever I'm at certain flea markets or street fairs, I always pick up a few of their rum cakes. They're the absolute best I've ever had and I've had my share of rum cakes. This year, due to covid, so many events have been cancelled and I was disappointed that I wouldn't be able to take home a couple rum cakes for my family and I. Then I decided to see if they had a site and to my absolute delight, they did. The cakes are a little more expensive than I'm used to and you have to pay shipping but let me tell you, just do it. They're absolutely amazing and not something you get everyday. I was a little concerned that I'd receive a beat up cake due to shipping but that's the opposite of what I received. The cakes were packed in a box with packing peanuts and the cakes themselves were sealed in plastic, within their plastic containers. The cakes were perfect. They were moist and I really had to force myself to stop eating it! My whole family absolutely loves them and I didn't even mention that they offer a gluten free rum cake, which is why I was able to partake in the absolute delight of this amazing rum cake. For the regular rum cakes, they have a variety of flavors. I think I'll start ordering these for holidays and special occasions. read more

Goodway Gourmet were present and onsite at my company location selling rumcakes. I have to say, these are the best rumcakes I've ever had. There is so much variety of rumcakes and the texture is just perfect. The rum is not overwhelming and although it is sweet, it is the perfect amount of sweetness. It was honestly a hard decision to just pick one flavor so I ended up with 2 rumcakes (Coconut and Carribean) to go home for the holidays, and..... it's already gone haha. Note: you can store it in the fridge for 6 weeks and the freezer for up to a year as they are packaged. I brought one to 2 different holiday parties and they were devoured right away. Thank you Goodway Gourmet for the delicious rumcakes and I'll definitely be stopping by when I'm in the area! read more

After taking my kids to the aquarium and Dino exhibit in Rotterdam square mall I saw this bakery from a distance. I said to the family "let's go get a treat!" I didn't expect to walk into a rum cake emporium! I have to say I'm not typically a fan of rum cakes. I've had many a tortuga rum cake in Grand Cayman and they are always too strong in rum flavor for my taste. And I'm just not generally a fan of alcoholic desserts BUT upon asking for something else the owner was quick to offer a sample, multiple even! I was delighted to simply find moist, deliciously flavored cakes. Ones that have enough flavor on their own to not even need frosting. We walked away with two rum cakes, brownies and cinnamon rolls. The owner/baker was so friendly and excited about his products. I would buy from him again and again. I wish him and his wife all the best of luck in their new location! read more

Once upon a time, I became good friends with a German lady who got up early every morning to do her calisthenics before work, never once forgot to pack her healthy lunch, and, when asked about her preferences in desserts, would answer that she liked "dry cake." If you are anything like my friend, first: congratulations on demonstrating as much self control in a week as I do in roughly three years, and second: you won't like the cakes at Goodway Gourmet. These cakes are as moist and buttery as can be. I love a moist cake, and these are as moist as cakes get without the state of California legally requiring that they be labeled puddings. Also, the owners are very nice and offer tons of free samples. Pro tip: if you're buying one of these at the farmer's market, get the classic/original flavor and then pick up some really good fresh local berries or peaches to go with your delicious cake, possibly with some very lightly sweetened whipped cream. read more

Walking through a fair in Stormville, I spotted these rum cakes and had to run over to try them. THEY ARE DELICIOUS! Turns out my husband remembered buying a couple of their cakes outside of Sam's Club one day. Those were delicious too! I was afraid to buy more than one, but when they told us they freeze well, I caved in and bought two! Soooooo good! I'm glad they travel all over to sell them because I will definitely keep looking for them! Oh god, I had their cake samples at the Chocolate Expo in Garden City this year, and I cannot get that delicious rum cake out of my mind. I am honestly considering taking that long trip upstate just to get this cake again, but I could also just order one for 30 bucks on their site... decision, decisions. Extremely flavorful and it melts in your mouth, the coconut one is delicious and the chocolate one is quite good too. I would highly recommend these cakes, sold by a church community who seem like very good hearted people. I like cake, but this rum cake is by far one of the most memorable ones I have tasted. read more

The best rum cakes I have ever had. I found them at a beer festival by my house and was very glad I bought a bunch of them. I have given them to people as gifts and they love them as well. Hard to say which one is the best. They are all really good. If I had to choose I would probably have to say the carribean but the coconut is very close to it. You can order there cakes online. I had the pleasure of sampling three of their rum cakes at a street fair on along Lexington Ave in midtown Manhattan, and each flavor was better than the next. Not only were the rum cakes AMAZING, the two women running the operation were so incredibly, smiley, and friendly that they were attracting the largest crowds of any of the vendors. People were stopping by with the intention of just grabbing a sample and ended up buying two or three cakes. I ended up purchasing the caribbean rum cake, though the chocolate version was a close second choice! I highly, highly recommend this bakery. I did a little research on them when I got home because I was so impressed with not just the taste of their baked goods but with the women's demeanor as well. I am in love with their rum cake! I went to a festival this weekend and stopped by their booth. Very disappointed in the service this establishment provides. First came into contact with them at a festival. I paid for one of their products and they offered to hold it. Long story short, we were not allowed to go back to get the product. I called them and they offered to mail me the product that I paid for. I waited a week without any tracking information or shipping confirmation. Then I received a call from them saying they were an hour and a half away and that I could come to get it. I thought it was already shipped but it wasn't. I explained I was not driving that far and that they should have already shipped it. They said they would ship it right away. I then called back another week later after still not receiving it. She promised again she would ship it right away. I THEN HAD TO CALL AFTER ANOTHER WEEK because it still was not shipped. She was conveniently on vacation. I cannot describe how terrible this customer service and customer care was. I will NEVER recommend this business to anyone and I will make sure everyone I know hears about this experience. Here I am, almost a month later and no product that I paid for. read more

Delicious rum cake. I had the Gluten free type since I have celiac and it was incredible. Couldn't tell it was gluten free if I didn't know already. Worth the money. I haven't been inside the Troy bakery but I bought one of Goodway's rum cakes when they came down to a market in Manhattan and I had no idea that just a few ingredients could be made to taste so amazing. Nothing artificial-tasting at all - real rum, real cream, all the good stuff. The banana in particular is just mind-blowing.
