I can't believe it's been 3 years since I last set foot in Mumu's Cafe for breakfast. The visit was…read morelong overdue. I had some time to spare recently after dropping my dog off at a veterinary clinic in Troy. I ordered the Turkish Breakfast Plate which turned out to be the most expensive breakfast on the menu. It came with a lot of food. It included eggs, Simit ( a Turkish sesame bagel), grapes, toast, honey, olives and cream cheese. I also ordered a Turkish coffee which is a little stronger than what I'm use to. It hit the spot. Service is fast and friendly. The restaurant small but clean and cute. It looks as though the owners might have added a table. There are three or four tables in all. There's a new partition in the kitchen providing a little more distance between customers and those working on food prep. Gone are the beautiful ornate gold detailed Turkish dinner plates and teacups. I found them charming though not practical. I sort of miss them but they looked like heirloom items which wouldn't be appropriate for day-to-day use. They've been replaced by simple white dish-ware. Much more cost effective. FYI. There are no restrooms for customer use. That issue never came up for me but an older couple came in looking for a restroom and the owner advised them to go to the fast food restaurant down the street. As for the food, it was every bit as good as I expected. Some things don't change. I took the leftovers home and made another meal of it the next day.

Ordered 2 bacon egg and cheese croissants for delivery and this is what I was given. The saddest…read morepiece of bacon in the smallest sandwich I've seen in a very long time. Portions were incredibly tiny small, from the bacon to the small egg. The food also arrived pretty cold. The taste was alright, but for what you get, I wouldn't say it was worth the price. I just couldn't believe the tiny portions. After eating one of the sandwiches I was still starving.

If ever there was a reason to travel to Troy, NY just for pizza I promise you, you will not regret…read morethe drive and it's well worth it! Pizza was so damn delicious I forgot to take time out to take a picture, won't forget next time. Owner, has great conversation and very diverse staff! Ben's Pizza in Soho, NY was my favorite until I went to DeFazio's. Not comparing the two but hands down just say'n!

DeFazio's has exploded in popularity in recent years because of rave reviews from pizza purists…read more It's critically acclaimed as not only one of the premier pizzerias in the Cap District, but some (me) say it's a top ranker across the country. And that ranking is well deserved. You get a strong familial feel walking into DeFazio's. If you're lucky enough to meet the Boss himself (he will actually be wearing a shirt that says "Boss"), he will give you a history lesson on the pizzeria, his family, and the state of pizz-ology Nationwide. He proudly proclaims that he is still The Sauce Guy around these parts because he has to keep up the quality control. There's something special about eating at a restaurant where the owner cares that much about the product, and they want you to as well. I encourage you to take the plunge and order the General Tso's pizza. It sounds insane, I know. But if you grew up eating this stuff, it will take you back to a time where you were traversing a mall food court and eating free samples (funny enough, that was the inspiration for this pizza). A lot of chicken-based pizzas will have red sauce as a base, but this is actually replaced with the Tso's special blend which has a beautiful sweet-heat to it. If you're coming here for the first time, it's nice to also balance a pizza like that out with a classic. Maybe a cheese or something similar. That way you can try out the red sauce and cheese in its purest form. I had the pleasure of walking through a cheese packing session that was going on in the restaurant, so I got to see that raw mozz up close, maybe 20 pounds of it. At that moment, I felt as though I was approaching enlightenment. When fully melted on that 'za, this cheese has the ideal mix of density and squish. DeFazio's has a special place in my heart. Your time here will make you feel like you are in a pizza sitcom. And you will leave with a feeling that you may have just had some of the best pizza of your life.

At the start of 2024, we treated my mother-in-law to a donut treasure map road trip in CDNY,…read moretraveling to a half-dozen different bakeries to pick out donuts to indulge in for a birthday celebration like none-other. I read MANY blogs, yelp reviews, and social media updates to compile the list of places to check out, and I was surprised that a little spot I had never heard of before called Schuyler Bakery continued to pop up in my research. I knew we needed to make it one of the stops on the donut tour, and it was 100% the right decision. These donuts were out of this world delicious. The exact right texture and mouthfeel I personally want out of a donut. Sweet, but not too sweet that you can't enjoy every last morsel. I also loved the variety available... maybe 10 different donuts all together at the after-lunch part of the day, all classics and nothing dripping in over-frosted goo or crazy toppings. These are the donuts that donuts are named after. We will definitely travel out to Watervliet to visit the small, old school vibes kinda bakery for a dozen or so of these again. A++.

This place is kind of sad. The baked goods weren't displayed in a remotely appealing way. Cupcakes…read morewere upside down in the displays, pastries were scattered everywhere, half the items weren't even labeled, and at least 50% of the display cases were empty. Everything pretty much tasted bland with not much flavor. The oatmeal raisin cookie, cinnamon bread, and cinnamon sugar donut were just not worth the calories. The cinnamon sugar donuts were the worst as they were incredibly dense and tasted stale. There's street parking and the employees were judgey, but friendly enough.
