Delicious, quick, and satisfying. When there's a line, it's a good sign. Snowman had one stretching to the sidewalk and while the wait was not long I quickly understood the reasons one existed. First, they've got a ton of fun flavors to choose from and then a whole bunch of ways to mix, match, dip, and stack 'em! Second, it's a creamy delight of wonderfulness that meets your mouth in every bite! Yummy!!

Strawberry and Pistachio soft serve

The BEST ice cream spot in the capital region. My husband and I wait every March for them to open so we can make our almost daily visits after dinner. Their soft serve ice cream never disappoints and is always the best dessert, especially on a hot summer night. My favorite flavors are the coffee and peanut soft serve flavors. My husband love their salty caramel and original twist of vanilla and chocolate soft serve. Their portions are generous and they accept cards not cash only like other ice cream places. Follow them on Facebook to see their flavors of the week! They change every Wednesday and feature 2 different soft serve flavors weekly along with the regular vanilla and chocolate that's available daily.

Snowman's chocolate peanut butter pie!

Made it to the Snowman a few times this year and my favorite flavors this year hands down were their soft coffee ice cream and their hard peanut butter chocolate. The soft coffee had such a great coffee flavor! The only mistake I made is I ordered a small. The servings are so big that I can't finish a small. I need to order a baby cone! The last time I went I finally brought home an ice cream pie! I chose the peanut butter chocolate pie. For obvious reasons. Man was it delicious, my only gripe, too much candy on top for my liking, OUCH! Sorry my friend just hit me. I know most think there can never be enough candy, but I prefer the simpler things just a crust, ice cream and maybe some peanut butter sauce and hot fudge. Obviously others (who have a mean back hand) prefer one with peanut butter cups, cookie crumbs etc. Anyway, try a pie to take home!

The Snowman Ice Cream stand

Great ice cream, service, and price. I highly recommend this local favorite. It's an old school ice cream experience.

Heavenly Kahlua and Coconut ice cream.

Not only the ice creams have the home-made texture and taste, they're smooth, creamy and not too sweet, AND also very reasonably priced! Parking is aplenty. Friendly service. We tried the heavenly Kahlua and coconut, the creamsicle to die for (vanilla n orange sherbet), and the thick Kahlua and salted caramel Boston shake (shake topped with sundae -- What else would you ask for? LOL) I am serious -- you need to taste all of them. Nothing negative to say about this old time creamery. On a hot August day, this is just a perfect dipping spot. Will revisit whenever we're in the Troy/Albany area.

While back home in the Capital Region, I did a mini ice cream tour of all of the popular ice cream joints....Martha's near LG, Kurver Kreme, On the Farm and a horrible cremee place in Vermont. I went to Testo's for lunch (yum!) with a few others and suggested stopping at Snowman on the way back, as we don't often get over to the 'burgh. I had not had ice cream here in probably 10 years. It was a weekday afternoon, so it was pretty quiet. We parked about half a block up on a nearby street. At first glance I thought some of the prices were a tad high, but OMG, the portions are GENEROUS! I often go for a twist cone, but had the Oreo ice cream here, which is somewhat similar to a Cookies n cream. Amazing and flavorful! My dining companion had a sundae that was quite sizable, it was also delicious. Total for the cone and sundae was about $6.50. Not too bad! After my visit, I did a google search on Snowman and discovered it's been around for 60+ years! I don't live in the 518 anymore, but if I did, I would visit this scoop shop at least a few times each summer.

We did our tourist thing at Peebles Park and poked around there. It's so warm out I want ice cream. So I found this place. Dark clouds were coming across tho. As soon as Bf got out treats the sky busted open!! Lol whew!! They make their own ice cream here, nice! Was thinking a cone then we looked at the menu in their window thru our car window! Mmm I want a banana split and he decided on a strawberry shortcake sundae. He came around the corner and My eyes almost popped out of my head! They were huge!!! Well we started in eating and a few people talked to us- what r those??!! (Basically u gonna eat all that???!!) lmao prob. Well he made it thru half and I did my job! But I'm busting at the seams !! Homemade ice cream .. nothing like it!

Best ice cream place around! My sister lives in Troy and always takes we here when I'm home visiting. Prices so low it's amazing. You can sit outside on picnic tables. Some bees but hey they can smell it too! You gotta try and won't be disappointed!

Chocolate Nut Sundae

This is the real deal. Tried both the soft serve and the hard ice cream and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and presentation. My chocolate nut sundae came with a mountain of whipped cream, fudge, peanuts, and a cherry. I'm generally not a huge fan of chocolate ice cream as it is sometimes bitter, but this one was smooth and sweet. I also tried a scoop of the chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, and this one blew my mind -- some of the best chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream I've had. The cookie dough pieces were nothing like the pieces you often get in popular brands; these were chunks of soft cookie dough that melded well into the ice cream. Well done here. Plus, the staff is super friendly! Price: 4/5 Quality: 5/5 Quantity: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5

Heaven in a cone!

First time at The Snowman Soft serve ice cream is just the ticket for a nice sunny day. Certainly popular in demand. Service was excellent.

Scoups Homemade Ice Cream

Scoups makes good quality hard ice cream in traditional flavors, as well as soft ice cream. There…read moreare, of course, a variety of toppings, sundae choices, and more. A small cone or dish is 3 scoops, currently at $5.25, tax included. It's cash only, but there's an ATM several feet to the right of the ordering counter. I got 2 scoops of peanut butter ice cream topped with a scoop of vanilla. The vanilla had some very small ice crystals in it but was otherwise fine. I really love their peanut butter ice cream. It's creamy with the peanut butter flavor but not overwhelming. The cone does seem to be a little small for all that ice cream, so don't dilly-dally too much eating it in warm weather. Since some other parlors near me have closed, Scoups has become by default the closest ice cream spot to me that makes their own hard ice cream. This is not a bad thing. It's also not bad that it's not too far away from Wolf Road, and it becomes a convenient spot for dessert after dinner nearby.

Once my husband discovered this spot in a nice outdoor setting, he became an enthusiastic fan. There are picnic tables available on the property in front of a wooden fence where you can often see a few cows grazing nearby. Talk about farm to market! Not only is the homemade ice cream top quality, it is delicious. In addition, they serve soft vanilla and soft chocolate, dole whip, homemade Italian Ice, and Frogurt. The numerous flavors of ice cream are rich and bold. They are described well on the menu. Portions are generous so you may want to size down. I like a "small" cone of the Toffee Heath Bar Crunch. Staff is friendly and efficient no matter how long the line is at the window.
