I went to Moxie's for the first time tonight with a few friends and it will be my last. The high school aged employee greeted us and was extremely sweet. She explained the flavors and answered our questions. Unfortunately she was also degraded, demeaned, and micromanaged by the owner the entire time. The owner yelled at her upon our arrival and told her to "look busy" even though she was clearly about to serve us. The owner then made fun of her for saying the wrong term when asking if we wanted our ice cream in a cone or cup and humiliated her. It was so hard to watch and the environment was so hostile because of the owner. When we asked if they accepted tips, the owner was extremely rude and condescending toward us, saying they did not accept them. Lastly, when the poor girl was handing me the chance, the owner was forcing her to count out every coin and then counting over her. It was so odd. I will never go back and I will be sharing this experience with every friend and family member I know. Let this be a lesson to the owner to treat people, especially her employees, with KINDNESS. read more

Such a cool place in the middle of nowhere. I actually was driving by from a Wounded Verizon and just wanted something different wasn't hungry because we already eaten but I drove by Mike. Oh my gosh homemade ice cream I have to stop. I went up the street I turned around it's in the middle of a residential neighborhood Ice cream making plans it had a beautiful big backyard full of all kinds of activity, things, etc. like swings and slides and trains for children to play on. It was a private playground for the ice cream place. She had so many different flavors. I had a hard time choosing she had regular. She has sorbet. She had frozen yogurt she had sugar-free gluten-free Fat-free all kinds of stuff but she definitely had regular ice cream, so I definitely found what I wanted. She also had a fresh vegetable table from the garden that she sold the vegetables, which was even better because I was able to buy my large zucchinis. I couldn't find anywhere else not even back home. I ended up finally deciding on one of my favorite kinds of pie and that was strawberry rhubarb she had made that in an ice cream it was so good oh my goodness it was pieces of strawberry and rhubarb. It was a little pricey, but a single scoop is $ 4.75 . But it was well worth it and it was just enough. The flavor variety was out of this world as I said there was probably 30 different flavors. Everything you can think of adult not adult kids specialty flavors. I just couldn't get over how this little place in the middle of nowhere was so fantastic. I really wish my honey had come with me on this trip so he could try something but with his luck he probably would've had like three different skills because he couldn't of made up his mind. He's totally in love with anything that is peanut butter as well as frozen pudding or pistachio ice cream. The lady that ran it I'm sorry I didn't catch your name, but she was super nice really friendly, very explainable offered to help people, but she ran the whole thing by herself and to me that was just out of this world she was just one of the best people I've met in a long time. I hope they stay open for a very long time to come. They don't open till 130 but they close at like 9 o'clock at night rain or shine I believe seven days a week if anybody has a chance you really should hit this place it is definitely worth the trip if you're up here, it's obviously not worth a four hour trip from Massachusetts Ray came from, but it was worth the trip because I was here. According to the owner, Moxie's makes all of their ice cream by hand at the beginning of the season and then sells it until they sell out. Yes, everything is handmade and ridiculously delicious. If you catch them at the end of the season, you're going to only find the oddball flavors, but also at the end of the season, they celebrate National Banana Split Day, which is a wild treat when you have a bunch of strange homemade ice cream flavors to choose from. Moxies is a great place with a very friendly and sweet owner. Anywhere that gives me the option of a flight (of anything) is a place for me. While they are probably better known for their vanilla sampler flight, I tried a flight of maple creme, sweet tea, chai tea, blueberry lavender, and cotton candy for around $6. There is so much about this place that I want to love. - It's a seasonal business, out in the sticks, with a tremendous amount of personality. - All the ice cream is homemade, and the flavors are inventive, ingredient centric & seasonal. - The servings are small, a plus for those who don't want a day's worth of calories in a cone. The prices are a bit steep, but they would be fair for the quality of the product, if it actually delivered on the promise of the flavor. My great and abiding problem with Moxie's is that the flavors always sound so good, but on the cone feel dull and muted. They are quite good, but they aren't great. And dammit, they should be great. I want them to be great. And like Lai-Yee, perhaps it's a problem of not discovering the flavor that puts me over the moon. Perhaps next time I'll go for the cajun strawberry. Corn sounded awfully tempting. So did horchata. And it's true they offer tastes at the window. But the line is so long, and some flavors require a trip to the back, that I haven't been able to triangulate my way to flavor which has knocked my socks off. So I'll return. But I'm in no hurry. The ice cream is pretty good, and the variety of flavors is certainly adventurous. Lots of flavors of vanilla, which is great if you like vanilla, which I do. Also, the grounds, with their play structures, are great fun for kids young and old. The portions are small for the price, and the interactions between the owner and the staff are sometimes uncomfortable to watch. Have observed her chastising am employee for not scooping the precisely correct amount, which as a customer doesn't feel entirely great; it feels like they're trying to maximize profit per cone, over and against the customer experience. Toxic Moxie's! Threatening Owner. Picked up my little sisters to get ice cream... this is closest place. Owner was only one working, everything's normal. stayed in parking lot after ice cream to talk and catch up with my siblings since I live out of state now. Owner pulls up to me n my young siblings, shines flashlight at us. Calmly say we were customers and have kids in the car, and planned to leave now. This woman has the audacity to threaten to smell my car from her vehicle with no context or explanation....also illegal. We left when she asked but absolutely scumbag move. True colors always show, mentioned this to family and was told it trickles down to how she treats her employees, poor kids. When it rains it pours... Mom n Pop describes them perfectly, mom rolls up and pops a flashlight in your face to blind you while she threatens you. We went for a Motorcycle ride this past Wednesday, 90 degrees and wanted and Ice Cream..... Can I just tell you that the owner makes me want to eat ice cream. She is always super happy and seems to be on a permanent sugar-high. This is exactly who I want making my ice cream and then handing it through the little glass window. Aside from the awesome service the flavors and texture are heavenly. The varied flavors range from vanilla bean to Mexican chocolate (sweet and oh-so spicey) and the ice cream is so silky with no traces of ice. A beautiful hybrid of traditional ice cream and Italian Gelato. This is definitely exotic for the capital region. Moxie's is a wonderful ice cream place. Pam works hard to make sure you go back in time and get to try vanilla flavors from yesteryear.. I mean, where do you go and get 5-7 different flavors of Vanilla - which don't taste alike ... ??!! I LOVE the blueberry lavender, chocolate peanut butter, sangria, horchata, chai, and so many others I just can't recall from last summer. They are only open from Mother's Day weekend until around Labor Day. Hiphiphorray! Their vegan ice cream flavors are OH SO GOOD. They had 5 flavor options to choose from- all were hard ice cream and at least some of them were nut-free. My friend and I got too excited and tried all 5 flavors, eventually choosing our favorites. I loved the green apple and she was a fan of the marshmallow. I was amazed by the different variations of ice cream, so creative and delicious. The outdoor area is completely child-friendly which was awesome. Toys, different playground stations, with a place for parents to peacefully watch while enjoying their ice cream! The only downside to this review was the speed of service. When we got there there was only one person working a very, very long line. Other than that Moxie's is worth the trip if you want to go beyond the traditional flavors. Example: I got Mojito ice cream but was tempted by the different and unique versions of chocolate flavors I would have never imagined hiding on the back roads of this small town. I really like this little place! There were so many yummy flavors, from Mojito to Cajun Strawberry and Coconut Chocolate Chip. I chose Cajun Chocolate Peanut Butter and my companion chose Cinnamon with Crisps. Mine was very rich chocolate, real, salty peanut butter and a really intense AWESOME spicy kick. Not sure what spices were included, but it was great! The Cinnamon ice cream was very subtle and old fashioned-tasting; not too overwhelming. People who like light, elegant flavors will probably enjoy this. I had to give it 4 stars because the prices were kind of high--I got a kiddie sized cone (one scant scoop) and it was $2.95. However, the ice cream is homemade so I think it was worth the novelty. I will definitely be back for a taste of the "Roman Delight" (a spumoni-inspired flavor) as well as the white wine sangria! I've been going to Moxie's ever since I was a child (we won't discuss how many years that is). I've always loved it. The ice cream is really good. That being said, it's very expensive. Whenever we go we get two cones, two scoops each and it costs a little over $11. I think that is a bit steep. The scoops are very small, like the size of a Clementine orange. For $11 and change I'd expect a larger scoop of ice cream. I understand homemade ice cream is a premium but the same thing at Tollgate costs about $7-8 and you get more ice cream! The people who work there always seem to be completely uninterested and dispirited. My hubby is a jovial guy and likes to make small talk and joke. I like Moxie's, they are indeed, as good as it gets. Delicious, interesting ice cream in unique flavors made by a nice lady who spends half her year as a missionary in El Salvador. (Probably not useful to the whole ice cream thing but we spent some time talking to the owner and she's a fascinating woman.) Moxie's is only open for the ice cream season, when they sell out of ice cream, they're done for the year. I think Moxie's is great, but it's also due to a number of variables besides the ice cream. The ice cream is also great - however it's not the best I've had* - but I want to ramble about the general atmosphere for a bit. First of all, I love that Moxie's is named "Moxie's", which is adorable. I like that it's hidden about 3 miles from my house, on a street where you think you think you might be lost because how could there possibly be an awesome ice cream shop out *here*? I love the playground for the kids, which consists of swings and other equipment, but also a wooden train for them to climb in and play in. I confess I can fit inside it too (hey, I barely reach 5'3"). Moxie's also has a "we're open, rain or shine" policy. Cool. When they first open around late May, they have regular ice cream flavours, but as the summer season kicks in you'll find some wacky and interesting ones including their special of like, 5 different flavours of vanilla (actually - I was less impressed with this. A lot of the vanilla types tasted the same to me). I liked the Horchata or Fig flavour instead. Or Blueberry Cheesecake. Go and get Moxie's, it's adorable and worth the trip and the ice cream is really darn good. * that would be a tie between Berkshire Hills ginger ice cream (found in Williamstown where I work), and Christina's (found in Inman Square in Boston), for their Kulfi ice cream and followed closely by their Burnt Sugar flavour. read more

Family-owned as long as I've been alive and I never heard about it? The grounds are lovely, and I want to bring every small child and favorite adult I know back with me. The girl who serve me was friendly and knowledgeable, offering little samples and I got the sense that I had somehow time traveled to 1955. Anyway, I sampled the "blue moon" flavor and that was unlike anything I've ever tasted in my life... But what stopped me dead in my tracks was Cajun chocolate peanut butter... Had that in a hot fudge sundae and swooned over it. I'm going to go back just to try the Blue Moon again. Rather pricy and in the middle of nowhere.....but.......ZOMG! They have sooo many flavors that are awesome. Even all of their vanilla flavors are fabulous. The last time I had the teaberry and the blue moon. YUM! The ice cream is made onsite and it of excellent quality, aside from the fact that the flavors are unique and creative. They even had a sweet corn flavor. Once you decide on your ice cream (if it's not crazy busy they will give you a sample) you then have to pick your cone. A cookie cone? A chocolate cone? Maybe a pretzel cone? I had the pretzel cone to say I did it but I have to admit, I think next time I will stick with a regular sugar cone. I am so glad I have discovered this place. There is nothing like it near my current home in Florida. Sadly, I don't think I will make it back to family before this heavenly gem closes for the season. read more

Moxie's was the first business I patronized after I moved to the area. I had heard that they had interesting ice cream flavors plus gluten-free ice cream cones and vegan ice cream. It seemed too good to be true! I ended up getting the blueberry lavender ice cream in a cup. It was good, but kinda just tasted like blueberry. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go back to Moxie's before they closed for the season, but I can't wait until this coming summer so I can go back and try all the other flavors!
