Classic ice cream spot, but better! Lickety split has over 20 soft serve flavors which is unheard of! With so many options you're bound to find your perfect desert. I got a small vanilla with a peanut butter flavor burst, my friend got the pineapple soft serve, and my other friend got a hot fudge brownie sundae with chocolate hazelnut soft serve. Everything was delicious and curbed the sugar cravings we were having, but the hot fudge was a little...odd (it tasted like there was liquor or something in it and kind of messed up the sundae in our opinion). We stopped by Lickety Split for our last dose of soft serve before leaving the CNY area. It did not disappoint. We ordered a small soft serve ($2.85) with two flavors--chocolate and strawberry. Since they were not able to combine the two flavors in a twist, the two flavors were filled side-by-side in a cup. Creamy and rich, but not too sweet, they were a great combination and highly satisfying. The amount was generous, making it terrific value. Lickety Split offers 24 flavors including the basics of chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry, though the other flavors cost a little more ($4.10 for a medium, compared to $3.50 for a medium with a basic flavor). Should we be back in the area, I would be keen on trying some of the other fun flavors, which include cherry jubilee, blue moon, watermelon, amaretto, chocolate hazelnut, and cotton candy. The ice cream shop, which operates just a storefront where people order from outside, does offer limited benches and tables in front of it, though we saw many people happily enjoying their ice creams in their cars in the parking lot. It's a place to grab soft serve ice cream only. They do have flavors you can add to their three main soft serve flavors- vanilla, chocolate or twist. They do offer a variety of sprinkles in different colors and flavors. The prices are cheaper compared to other ice cream spots in the area. The staff were kind and patient and helpful. I was recently drawn into this place by the stunning 24 soft serve flavors, but what I'm going to talk about with you is the difference between expectation and execution. I went here with my family and I ordered the black raspberry soft serve ice cream with cherry dip. Now there's a seems to be there for current theme where all of the fruit flavors tasted amazing but everything else tasted like it was made with fake flavoring. The blackberry ice cream tasted really good, and I would've given his place to hide review. If it wasn't for the fact that I have to peel off the cherry did because it tasted like straight s**t out of a box. The service was good, but the person we were ordering from would make one ice cream then take an order then make one ice cream then take an order... so yes go if you can deal with the non fruit flavors and the awkward service them come. read more

We went and got ice cream... we got a twist cone, peanut butter flavor twist with peanut butter hard shell in a dish Oreo flurry, and vanilla ice cream with butterscotch topping. The ice cream was very creamy in consistency. We all enjoyed the soft serve ice cream which was thick and very flavorful. Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. I really, really wanted to like Lickety Split. I love ice cream, especially of the soft serve variety, and every time I've passed Lickety Split, there's a long line of people waiting for a cone. On my first trip to Lickety Split I tried a cone of hazelnut soft serve. I watched the girl behind the counter twist a cone of vanilla and then go to another machine to do something. I soon after realized that the flavors are added to the vanilla ice cream when you order. Unfortunately, the hazelnut flavor had the highly artificial and chemical taste that can be most easily compared to non-dairy creamer or hazelnut extract. Upon asking, I was told that all of the other flavors of ice cream beyond chocolate and vanilla have their flavors added. I think children would enjoy the flavors, as they are super sweet, but for an adult wanting to avoid that artificial taste, you might leave wanting more. Being that Lickety Split always has such a long line when I've driven by, I figured I'd give them another shot. The second time I tried a dish of plain vanilla and a dish of plain chocolate. Although they both offered a good creaminess, the vanilla was somewhat lacking in that true vanilla flavor. After several spoonfuls, it started to taste...well...tasteless. The chocolate was better than the vanilla, but because I am not a chocolate ice cream person, it's it something I'd choose to order again. Maybe third time's the charm? I've yet to try their yogurt, and might consider that option, but likely would stick to the safer bet of chocolate and vanilla. There are plenty of Lickety Split loyalists out there, and you may be one of them, but Lickety Split just isn't my cup of tea...or, er, not my cone of ice cream. read more

Staff was nice enough and the menu is entirely ice cream --- though there is a little hamburger and hot dog stand in the parking lot. I just left Lickety Split and had the worst ice cream experience I've ever had in my life. I ordered a medium mint chocolate chip soft serve in a cone with rainbow sprinkles and a mint chocolate chip milkshake. The girl who made the soft serve cone dropped the whole thing in the sprinkles container and scooped it out with a cup. 1/3 OF THE CUP WAS FILLED WITH SPRINKLES. Then we got the mint chocolate chip milkshake, the milkshake tasted like TOOTHPASTE. She must have put way too many pumps of syrup into the cup because it was absolutely disgusting. We have gone here every season for 9 years and I think this visit just ended it. Whoever the new blonde girl is needs a serious attitude adjustment and listening skills. First my husband orders a kids cone with half the ice cream for our son. We get a regular small cone, ok... then he orders a small lemon she snapped it only comes in medium... ok, my husband was done dealing with her so he came to the car to have me get my own.I go up, both girls are in back talking and eventually come up. I ask for a small frozen yogurt cone, I get a medium dish wrong flavor that she slides across the counter. I get that these are kids but we have never experienced someone so rude ontop of getting everything wrong. There were 2 people leaving when we pulled up and two younger boys coming as we were leaving. It's the first nice day, they weren't busy. I typically try to understand where something went wrong in my review and be understanding even when unsatisfied howeverthis girls attitude turned me off completely. Have been going here for years, however tonight was the first time the only thing we could get was twists and a couple other flavors. It was a half hour before they closed and we were told "we cleaned everything and we are closing soon". No shakes, no sundaes, no flurries, etc. If your going to be open then most everything should be available. Not shutting down early because you want to go home right at close. They even shut the 'Open' light off at 935. Poor business practice. read more

I think Lickety Split has the tastiest soft serve in the area, hands down (and I have tried many). I don't know why theirs tastes creamier and has better flavor than others, but whatever it is, it works. My go-to is vanilla with cherry dip, and I usually get the kid size because even a small is too much unless I'm really hungry (and let's face it, you're eating ice cream for the taste, not because your stomach is growling). The chocolate is good, but the vanilla is just phenomenal. It almost has a hint of malt to it. The girls (because I have yet to see a boy back there, though apologies if there are guys who work there) are always polite and speedy, often working as a team to fill orders as quickly as possible. I always at least give them my change, because they do a good job and are generous and accurate. They keep it very clean, washing everything down after close. The lines ebb and flow, longer on hot days and from about 7 to 9:30pm (they close at 10pm, unless there are still people in line when the clock strikes ten). They keep it moving pretty quickly, and I have never waited longer than maybe 5 to 8 minutes, even when it's really packed. I deducted a star because they, like so many others, have the "40 Soft Serve Flavors" but they blend a syrup into the vanilla base, and for accuracy and other reasons I don't get, you can only get those flavors in a medium. As I mentioned, the sizes are quite generous, and I have never been able to finish a medium cone. I understand there are limitations and the inside is packed, with all the different machines (slushies, crunches, milkshakes, ice cream, dips, etc.), but I wish they could find a way to offer those flavors in a variety of sizes. I will say that, of the few I have tried, the pistachio flavor was awesome (the amaretto and banana were decent and kids have enjoyed the cotton candy flavor) though I just cant justify paying for way more than I am going to eat. If you and a friend are willing to split it, a medium would probably be perfect. As far as soft-serve ice cream stands go, this is one of the best anywhere and definitely the best in the Capital District. They have a ton of options, all reasonably priced, and I can't imagine any ice cream lover not finding something on the menu to please them. I wish it was open year-round, because I would gladly patronize it no matter how cold it gets outside. read more

I have been going to Lickety Split for about 10 years. From the beginning, the service was always good, the staff was polite, the ice cream was consistently excellent and the portions were generous. This year, something has gone awry, to say the least. The first thing I noticed this year is that the portions are smaller, while the prices have escalated, as they do everywhere, every year. You now get less and pay more, way more, than you payed a few years ago. The people who say that the cones are huge are lying, or these are comments planted by the owner. Don't believe it! The ice cream still tastes fine, but the value proposition has gone from good... to RIP OFF! The employees for the most part are still pleasant, but this week I stopped at Lickety Split and ordered a large cone and that's when I had an epiphany moment - LIKE I WILL NEVER GO TO THIS PLACE AGAIN AS LONG AS I LIVE!!! - that kind of moment. I ordered a large vanilla/chocolate twist cone, just like the hundred plus I've ordered over the years.The women behind the counter (the owner I presume) handed me a "large" cone that was half the size that I have been getting for many years. Probably less than half the size. Before she made it, she claimed that the chocolate ice cream was very soft, but she would do her best to make a decent cone. I took the cone and started to walk away, and the chocolate ice cream seemed fine to me. I then thought to myself that this shyster just ripped me off so bad that I had to question her about it. I went back to the window, and told her that I was one of her best customers, and asked nicely if she could put a little more ice cream in the cone. With a big smile, and acting all perky like she actually gave a damn about her customers, she said "Oh no, I did 7 1/2 swirls, just the right amount... the ice cream is compressed." I have heard malarkey in my life, but this was some of the most pathetic nonsense I have ever heard coming out of someones mouth in a very long time. She couldn't care less about my satisfaction, and she literally dismissed me like I meant nothing to her. All this after I have been loyal to this place and spent many hundreds of dollars. I ate the disgraceful little $4.16 kiddie sized cone she handed me and at that moment vowed that I would never go back to this dump. What she did to me was the equivalent of her handing me an actual large cone, and me handing her $2.00 instead of $4.16, with me explaining to her that my money was compressed. Her attitude was so blatantly despicable, her friendly demeanor so completely phony, deceitful and pretentious, I have no idea why this person owns a business. She was completely devoid of empathy, like none, ZERO! She didn't want to listen to me, and acted like I was imposing on her precious time even though I was the only person at the counter, with no one else in sight. She didn't give a damn, period! Obviously I am done with this place, and I hope other people will read this and think twice before they get ripped off by these con artists. Not all the servers are like this, so I can't condemn the staff en masse. On the other hand, there are no words too strong to describe the treatment I received from this women who treated me like a piece of garbage. Bye-Bye, Lickety Split on Rt. 20 in East Greenbush, NY.
