Right off the bat, the only reason I'm withholding an extra start from my rating is the meager scoops. Still, the ice cream shop called the ice cream shop gets bonus points from me for being a local small business and I'm glad to see them reopen every spring. Now, back to the scoop. The small portion size was notable especially when compared to what we've come to expect at other local ice cream joints, and I'm disappointed because, who would rather have a smaller scoop of ice cream? We'll, not me. They have a few round benches across the parking lot from the shop, although some oddly have only the skeleton of an umbrella. Thankfully it was overcast when we came here most recently, so it wasn't an issue even though the only two bench seats with an umbrella were taken. Staff were reasonably friendly so service is not an issue, and I like the family vibe. Ice cream itself was fine, but I couldn't help but wish for a bit more of it. read more

We came here based on a friend's recommendation and found it to be a cute ice cream shop. Due to the pandemic, waiting in line was tough as we had to stay about 20 feet away from the ordering window and that meant planning our order in advance wasn't possible because we couldn't see the options. They carry Perry's ice cream (my wife's favorite) and had a lot of great flavors. I had "Peanut butter smore," which I had never heard of before, in a waffle cone. My wife had something-berry cheesecake. The ice cream was between soft and hard, which I found odd but not bad. Perhaps it was starting to melt? They have lots of large tables with umbrellas, though our seats were very low to the ground in an awkward sort of way. Wheelchair accessible tables are available. Dogs are not permitted, so Clover got to watch from the car. I wish I had more time to read their menu to see if they had specialty sundaes and such. They had 4-5 flavors of soft serve and/or Dole whip, which is nice. read more

I scream for the pumpkin pie soft serve they have on tap right now! I don't have the inside scoop, so I'm not sure how much longer this place will be chillin' out for the season (it was still open as of Fri., 10/11), but if you're like me and lack self cone-trol, then it's definitely worth a visit to get soft served, pumpkin pie-styles. This is a nice ice cream spot connected to a laundromat and self storage. It doesn't have tons of options but it does have Perry's ice cream which is a favorite in my home town of Rochester, NY. The one thing they do have which I consider excellent is custard. The soft serve is meh. The custard is A OK! I usually have mine mixed up with oreo and mixed nuts. read more

I came here to try the custard, but was really wowed by the toasted coconut hard ice cream. They only have vanilla custard, and it is the type that comes from the machine like soft serve, not the type I was looking for that is scooped. The texture is pretty good, but like many other places, the flavor is lacking. There is just not enough vanilla flavoring, and would probably be better with mix ins and not alone. The Maine custard I had a few weeks ago was delicious on its own and I'm in the process of giving up on finding a place nearby that has something similar. It's been really hard for me to let go of but I think it's time to snap out of the denial. After I sampled the custard, I decided on toasted coconut hard ice cream (Perry's) instead, while my boyfriend opted for the custard. We both agreed afterwards that the coconut was a showstopper cone and I'd definitely make the 20 minute drive out here to have it again, and try the other hard ice cream flavors as well. We didn't try the soft serve but it also looked promising and the flavor of the week was pistachio and vanilla twist. The stand has a $10 minimum credit card charge. I've driven along this stretch of Central Avenue between Schenectady and Albany countless times and passed by this plain looking strip plaza with the light red neon lights for the Ice Cream Shop and Laundromat (located in the Town of Colonie) and been here a few times over the years. It's a quick and convenient place to stop. The Ice Cream Shop has outside takeout windows and serves up Perry's Ice Cream, soft serve, flavor burst, sundaes, floats, malts, shakes, flurrys, banana splits, ice cream sodas, and Penguin Ice. Besides ice cream, they offer hot dogs, burgers, chicken tenders, pork sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, nachos, chips, and cold drinks. The food and ice cream are decent and standard drive-in fare. I once got a brain freeze from eating their ice cream too fast since it was soo cold. The prices are fair (ice cream $2 and up) and sandwich meal combos are offered too. read more

So the joyful experiences of having ice cream for small children is always tampered with the fact that there are ghost across the street. I am so sad to write a bad review, but I actually just had the most disgusting milkshake I've ever had from the Ice Cream Shop. Think about that for a second; I never thought I could have the words disgusting and milkshake next to each other, but there you go. I wasted $4.25 on an Oreo milkshake that was the consistency of milk. I seriously got Oreo flavored milk. Now Oreo flavored milk sounds not bad, but I assure you this was bad. I took two horrified sips and that monstrosity went straight into the trash. Even my other half, who likes runny milkshakes, agreed this was just flavored milk and not a milkshake at all. I've had some doubts since the former owners sold this place and, let's face it, it's a sad state of affairs when Dairy Queen has better product. Farewell, Ice Cream Shop...I'm moving onto Kurver. *Two stars because this visit deserved zero, but I have enjoyed the maple ice cream here in the past. Just moved into the area and this was our first time trying an ice cream joint near the house. We were not disappointed. Coming from two adults and three kids, this place must be doing something good! There have a lot of variety of both hard and soft ice cram flavors to choose from. My 9yo is always wanting to try something new, so she samples at least two flavors every time we go. There are also floats, sundaes and shakes to choose from as well. Service has been good the times we've gone this year. So far we have no complaints about the hard/soft ice cream of root beer floats. I've seen other customers get sundaes and I know I have to try one before the season is up. read more

This was a very decent place to get ice cream. We have never been here before but we had always looked at this place but never stopped because of the location. It's it's right off the road and comes up really quick oh, so most of the time we ended up passing it before we could turn in so that was one of the major reasons why we never went to it. We made a special effort this time to make sure that we could go to this place and it was actually a decent place to go. Let me start off by saying that everything was directed in a one-way fashion so that nobody crossed each other's path it was all moving in One Direction which was nice and it allowed you to look at everything so you knew what you wanted before you got to the window. The staff was all wearing masks and gloves they were proper precaution and it looked like the inside of the facility was pretty clean. They use Perry's ice cream which is a very good brand of ice cream if you ask me and I was worried that the ice cream would taste like ice chunks I can't stand that and ice cream and it did not it was very creamy it was very smooth and I had the classic twist it was Simply Delicious. I suggested if anyone wants to try a good place to get ice cream as a family this would be the place to go. I would like to recommend that the company try to have a little bit more seating on the outside and maybe a larger sign so people can actually see it faster from the road other than that no complaints. We stopped at this ice cream shop on our vacation. It's called "Muffins" in some places, but Ice Cream Shop in others. I got a sundae and it was way larger than I was expecting. The husband got some crazy banana split concoction and it looked fabulous. Staff was friendly and though there was a bit of a wait - it was 4th of July - they served us fairly quickly. They have a cooler with ice water off to the side and the water is quite chilly, which is nice on a hot day. read more

Have passed this place a million times, finally went with family tonight, and it was not great. The service was inordinately grumpy, and all of us had something wrong with our orders. My husband ordered a shake that was basically milk with flavoring--he threw it out. And on top of it all, we think we were overcharged for everything--$7 for a kiddie vanilla soft serve and a medium shake that didn't have ice cream in it?? Next time we'll go to Sweet Frog. But we were with our toddler, and didn't have time to wait in line again to complain about our orders. We will not be going here again because of the poor service and poor attention to detail. Seems to me that if you're going to have a million flavors, options, and sizes on an 11pt-size menu, you should try to get things right. Fries were good and salty, hot dog was decent, soft serve was good. BEST ICE CREAM ON PLANET. This is my favorite ice cream shop i have ever been to. Most people cant figure out the name of it. The actual name is Muffin's. They make their own ice cream and they also have other foods that are good. My favorite is a large rootbeer float. The young staff are really friendly. Everything was just ok. First off we ordered a medium flavor burst blue goo cone and it was really bland. I have had flavor burst before and this was so bland it just tasted like a vanilla cone which is not the usual for flavor burst. The other item ordered was a small hot fudge sundae, we originally wanted a butterscotch sundae but they said they don't have butterscotch sundaes just caramel sundaes. They did however point out that they had butterscotch soft serve so a hot fudge sundae with butterscotch soft serve was ordered. Again this butterscotch soft serve was just as bland as the flavor burst and tasted just like vanilla soft serve with a light brown coloring to look like butterscotch. As we go to pay the cost was around $8.00 and I go to pay with a card and the employee points to this tiny sign that says ten dollar minimum. Luckily the other employee said don't worry about it and took the card as it was all I had so two stars for that. Although I do find it a little ridiculous for a $10 minimum at and ice cream stand. If one or two people go and order they will struggle to meet that $10 minimum. A customer next to me was forced into ordering more than he wanted because he had to meet the minimum. On a hot day, this ice cream is probably fine. The hard ice cream is Perry's, not homemade, but it's one of the best. What is terrible is the service. It wasn't a huge deal that they got the order wrong--that happens, although with just two items, I'm not sure how it was completely wrong. But, what was worse was the response of the older man (owner? manager?) who was in charge. As others have said, he is unpleasant, grouchy, and obviously unconcerned about customer service. If you have another option, don't go here. read more
