    The Joel M. special :)

This is a nice ice cream spot connected to a laundromat and self storage. It doesn't have tons of options but it does have Perry's ice cream which is a favorite in my home town of Rochester, NY. The one thing they do have which I consider excellent is custard. The soft serve is meh. The custard is A OK! I usually have mine mixed up with oreo and mixed nuts.

The only reason I don't give this place five stars is because of the location across the street from the cemetery. So the joyful experiences of having ice cream for small children is always tampered with the fact that there are ghost across the street. But besides all that the ice cream is wonderful, the milkshakes are delicious, and even the hotdogs bring back memories of fun times with family in the backyard. Another plus is great service. A must go to place for anyone in the Schenectady area. Tons of flavors. You must try the Norther Lights Cooler. Nothing better.

Holy red neon lights! I've driven along this stretch of Central Avenue between Schenectady and Albany countless times and passed by this plain looking strip plaza with the light red neon lights for the Ice Cream Shop and Laundromat (located in the Town of Colonie) and been here a few times over the years. It's a quick and convenient place to stop. The Ice Cream Shop has outside takeout windows and serves up Perry's Ice Cream, soft serve, flavor burst, sundaes, floats, malts, shakes, flurrys, banana splits, ice cream sodas, and Penguin Ice. Besides ice cream, they offer hot dogs, burgers, chicken tenders, pork sandwiches, chicken sandwiches, nachos, chips, and cold drinks. The food and ice cream are decent and standard drive-in fare. I once got a brain freeze from eating their ice cream too fast since it was soo cold. The prices are fair (ice cream $2 and up) and sandwich meal combos are offered too.

I am so sad to write a bad review, but I actually just had the most disgusting milkshake I've ever had from the Ice Cream Shop. Think about that for a second; I never thought I could have the words disgusting and milkshake next to each other, but there you go. I wasted $4.25 on an Oreo milkshake that was the consistency of milk. I seriously got Oreo flavored milk. Now Oreo flavored milk sounds not bad, but I assure you this was bad. I took two horrified sips and that monstrosity went straight into the trash. Even my other half, who likes runny milkshakes, agreed this was just flavored milk and not a milkshake at all. I've had some doubts since the former owners sold this place and, let's face it, it's a sad state of affairs when Dairy Queen has better product. Farewell, Ice Cream Shop...I'm moving onto Kurver. *Two stars because this visit deserved zero, but I have enjoyed the maple ice cream here in the past. If you avoid the milkshakes, you'll probably have a more than 0-2 star experience!

We stopped at this ice cream shop on our vacation. It's called "Muffins" in some places, but Ice Cream Shop in others. I got a sundae and it was way larger than I was expecting. The husband got some crazy banana split concoction and it looked fabulous. Staff was friendly and though there was a bit of a wait - it was 4th of July - they served us fairly quickly. They have a cooler with ice water off to the side and the water is quite chilly, which is nice on a hot day.

It was late and cold, and the girls were in dresses. My daughter is newly gluten free and nervous to eat at a place that she has not eaten at before, so she got ice cream from Stewart's prior to going to the Grandstand. She entered the establishment with the ice cream and sat down inside with her friends while their moms ordered ice cream for themselves and the rest of the children, totaling 14 other people. A worker approached the young girls, telling them that they had to leave, which they did. As the worker was walking away, another parent of the group was walking up to the table and the worker never confronted that parent to explain what had just happened. The girls informed the parent of the situation. In addition to addresssing the young children, and not the parents, not only did the girls have to stand out in the cold, but the rest of the party had to as well. Meanwhile, one the mother's calmly and respectfully stated her understanding of the policy to the owner, and then proceeded to explain that my daughter was the only one with ice cream from someplace else, due to her medical condition and level of comfort. The parent also explained that there were 14 others with the group that were still providing them business. The owner stated that it was disrespectful and that their policy is that customers are not allowed to bring in outside food and drinks. The owner was spoken to in a very respectful manner, while her tone was horrendous as she responded with phrases such as, "I don't know what you want me to do about it" and "...and your question is?!" She was very rude and lacked any sense of understanding. The girls and their friends go there often after school. Not anymore!

The new owner promised to keep the shop looking the same, and it appears he succeeded. Very nice! Booths were reupholstered in the same dark green color. Photos of Civitello family lined the wall. The ceiling was replaced with an embossed metal one that looks appropriate and like the original ceiling. I went to Civitello's at 10:30 am on Tuesday, August 5. The Co-Manager (owner's son) was pleasant and welcoming. I ordered a small Lemon Ice and bought a quart to drop off to my grandchildren. I have been enjoying the Lemon Ice regularly at Civitello's since my childhood. I have even eaten Lemon Ice in Italy. I sat in my car eating the Lemon Ice I had just bought; I ate slowly and with no distractions. The Lemon Ice definitely did not taste the like it did in the past. The texture was the same, but the pure lemon flavor was much less noticeable. Also, there were more tiny pieces of lemon zest in it. This zest did not taste fresh; it tasted prepackaged. I heard many of the family recipes were included in the purchase of the shop. However, I think the Lemon Ice recipe was not given to the new owner. Food-- Pizza (Tomato Pie) was not out yet, and I am eager to return soon see if it is as amazing as I remember it.. After looking at the menu, I asked if Eggplant Sandwiches were going to be available everyday, and he responded yes because the Fryer is now located in the kitchen. Previously, they were served only on Wed. and Fridays because the fryer was outside. Looking forward to having an Eggplant Sandwich, a favorite of mine as well as of many customers. Will it taste the same? Will it be on homemade bread sliced thin? Bakery-- Eclairs looked great. Guy ahead of me bought six. However, I noticed the Butter Cookies did not look as nicely cut out/shaped as before. I did not taste or buy any on this visit. I did not see any almond paste cookies; maybe I overlooked them. The shop was closed on Sunday because they were sold out after the grand reopening, so they may need to restock more of the classic cookies Civitello's is famous for. I plan on updating this review after I taste the Eggplant Sandwich and the Pizza/Tomato Pie.

The tables are all well spaced and even with the high ceilings, it wasn't overly loud at all. The server and bus people were great and our waters were constantly full and the server spaced the whole experience out perfectly. She was quite pleasant yet professional. The cocktails were some of the best in the area. On par with places like Hamlet and Ghost and Josie's Table. High quality and not something you could easily make yourself at home, even with knowing what you're doing. So tasty and beautifully presented. All of the food was super flavorful and perfectly cooked. We wanted to try a bit of everything and ended up taking quite a few leftovers home. For appetizers we tried the olives, whipped herb ricotta and the cheese croquettes. All of those were amazing! The olives were so well flavored and you get a bunch. The herbed whipped ricotta was fantastic but the star was easily the bread it came with. It was so good! I see why there is an option on the menu for "more bread, please" because it's the best focaccia I've ever had. The cheese croquettes were also great and the truffle cream it's plated on was a wonderful touch. For our dinners we tried the chicken, za'atar fries, hummus and the four cheese flatbread. Easily the greatest flatbread I've had. It was beautifully presented and such a fun way to do a flatbread! The chicken was amazing, very flavorful, juicy and gorgeously plated. The delicious amba yogurt complimented the flavors of the chicken so well. The hummus was so fresh and the pita it comes with is always so good. The fries were delicious and the truffle aioli it came with was a perfect dipping option. We can't stop talking about how good it was and can't wait to return!
