Delightful!!!!
Kylie M.

I wish I lived closer to the Placid Baker, so I could go there for my bread every week. Everything I've had from here has been delicious, their bread loaves, chicken salad sandwich, fresh flavorful pizza, and, of course, their star item the almond croissant. There is often a line, but it moves quickly as the staff is very efficient. The seating area is tiny, but I've never not gotten a spot when I wanted one. Definitely a must if you are a bread/pastry lover!

If I would own a bakery, I would die for the baker who makes that almond croissant. It was so not so sweet and crispy; I might dream about it tonight. This place isn't that big and I think they focus mainly on baking. I can tell they make pastry in the morning and bread later in the day. Ambiance is like a bakery factory and a decent place to sit. The biggest and probably the only thing that matters is the bakery part. We had the chocolate croissant and almond one. I might just come back to Troy for those. Short line and great service are a plus.

Morning Bun

My one sadness about Albany is that the pastry scene is virtually non-existent. WHERE AM I SUPPOSED TO GET MY CROISSANTS?! Luckily, The Placid Baker is here to save the day! I really like french pastries such as croissants and pan au raisin, and the ones here are buttery, light, and flaky. Pictured below is the morning bun, with the perfect amount of caramelized sugar to make the flaky exterior even more crispy. Thanks for helping me to get my pastry fix, you can't imagine how much of a better person I am once I get my carbs LOL.

Came here to get their sourdough bread and a baguette! The bread is very delish, paired with a charcuterie board or tin fish !

Best bakery in Troy... especially the Kouign-amann. I just wish they would bring back the sables!

Very good pastries and excellent bread. They don't make anything that is gluten-free. Prices are high.

Hands down best baguettes around. Get to their booth early on Farmers Market days, or you will be out of luck.

It's cute inside and the service was friendly and informative. They let me know that EVERYTHING, even the puff pastry is made in house!!! Very impressive! I bought a couple glazed donuts to make up for the horrible pastry and donuts that I had this week from elsewhere. I'm so glad I did because they were fresh made and moist and the glaze was still wet! If nothing else they made was good, I would go back just for the glazed donuts! But everything is great so let's keep chatting! I originally decided to drive there to get the cinnamon bread that I remember as a kid. Unfortunately they were sold out. But they did have what they called Easter bread, which is s rich egg loaf, similar to Challah with red and golden raisins in it and the dough is lemon flavored. I bought a loaf of that and brought it home and made epic French toast with it! I highly suggest you do the same! I also tried their spinach pastry and "pizza" pastry, delicious! All the dough here just melts in your mouth without leaving a leathery film on your tongue which means it's real pastry made with butter! I have thus resigned myself to the fact that I will be gaining weight soon due to the frequency in which I plan to keep visiting this place haha!

I read MANY blogs, yelp reviews, and social media updates to compile the list of places to check out, and I was surprised that a little spot I had never heard of before called Schuyler Bakery continued to pop up in my research. I knew we needed to make it one of the stops on the donut tour, and it was 100% the right decision. These donuts were out of this world delicious. The exact right texture and mouthfeel I personally want out of a donut. Sweet, but not too sweet that you can't enjoy every last morsel. I also loved the variety available... maybe 10 different donuts all together at the after-lunch part of the day, all classics and nothing dripping in over-frosted goo or crazy toppings. These are the donuts that donuts are named after. We will definitely travel out to Watervliet to visit the small, old school vibes kinda bakery for a dozen or so of these again. A++.

My wife and I stopped in on a warm winter morning and got a few baked goods and two drinks to try. I had a rosemary vanilla latte and chocolate pistachio sourdough bun. She had a masala chai, and olive/feta/rosemary focaccia. We started with the bun & focaccia. The bun pulled apart nicely and had the subtlest hint of sourdough. The chocolate wasn't overpowering and matched the pistachio flavor nicely. It was a bit messy but delicious nonetheless. The bun was deliciously moist in the middle which was my favorite part. The focaccia was thick and full of flavor. Personally not being a huge fan of olives, I think the chunks of olive were a bit too large for my taste, but that's personal preference. I won't take points off for that. The drinks came out after a few minutes. The latte that I got had some nice art on top, and the rosemary taste was very pleasant. The chai was also quite nice, I like the taste of masala as well. My wife got oat-milk with it which gave a nice nutty flavor to it. Staff was very pleasant, as well! And the environment is nice and cozy with some plants in the corners and a nice city-cafe feel.

I also got the pop tart and it was not only SO stinkin pretty but absolutely delicious. I love the space, it's so quiet and relaxing and the fact that it has all the pretty plants and chill space to get some work done. I ended up sitting outside since it was nice and sunny and wanted to enjoy the last bit of sunshine and outdoor space before the cold keeps us cooped up inside. Can't wait to try their other baked goods and drinks next time I'm in Troy!

It must be difficult for a bakery like Bella Napoli to be profitable at their size, but I'm happy that there are still bakeries like this around. Their slogan is the selection brings you in and the Taste brings you back - and I would say that is true based on the wide selection of breads, cookies, pastries, and cakes that I saw at the Troy location. What brought me in to Bella Napoli was the opportunity to buy fresh small hot dog rolls to go with Helmbold Small Franks. I also bought an Italian bread and boston cream donut. The italian bread is the kind of italian bread that you grew up with if you grew up in the greater NY area - crispy crust with soft white interior and pillowy crumb. It went great with some spiedies and I'm looking forward to using it to wipe up tomato sauce when I make pasta for dinner tonight. It toasted nicely and maybe I'll make some garlic bread too. Boston cream pie donuts are one of my favorite donuts and I always try them whenever I visit a new bakery. The boston cream donut at Bella Napoli was good - not bad, but not great. The cream filling was good. The texture of the donut was a little dense, but not bad. If the donut texture had been lighter, I would have rated it as great. The only minor issue was that the chocolate glaze had a developed a little crusting, but that probably means that the glaze was based on sugar instead of using corn syrup - which I appreciate.

No matter how busy and congested the Latham location is, the staff are always welcoming and pleasant Although the selection was comparable, the attitude of the two ladies at the Troy location was terrible. The surprising part of the visit was that we were the only two people in the store. I can only guess that the ladies were having a bad day or they were tired and just wanted to go home. Those young girls should understand that a smile and a pleasant attitude goes a long way. I now know that even though the Latham location is much busier and can be congested at times, it is still well worth the wait and I will no longer visit the Troy location.
