I live in Florida and Saratoga Springs, New York and a 10 minute drive from my front door to the Village Pizzaria. It's worth the flight and the drive just to eat there. The most amazing Italian food I've ever had in my life. The first place I went to when I flew up north was Village Pizzaria. Plus, I took out a gluten-free pizza amazing all the selections. Wines given by the glass five star and if they don't have it on the menu, they make it for you. I have the haddock Amazing had steak there . Fabulous prices are excellent. There's no restaurant I'd rather eat in then Village Pizzaria try it you'll like it also the owners are in the kitchen they make from scratch everything fresh They have a herb garden in the back and they use everything from their garden. read more

I come to the area several times a year to be with family. C and R restaurant was one of the places that we would visit because the food was great and the service was always top notch. My latest trip in May 2026 was a complete disappointment. The service was incredibly slow. As a group we ordered 6 different meals. The salmon, fried haddock, a cheese burger, chicken nuggets, roast beef and gravy and an order of chicken wings hot. The haddock was way over cooked, dark brown and black in some spots. A good cook could see it was over cooked just by looking at it. The burger was under cooked and pink in the center, the person who ordered it refused to eat it. The chicken nuggets where over cooked and dry, again the person who ordered it refused to eat it. The roast beef and gravy was either over cooked or was sitting out too long as it no longer had a slight pinkish color. The chicken wings where also dry and did not have enough amount of buffalo sauce. The only meal that was decent was the salmon. When we asked the server about the poor quality of the food she did not seem concerned and did not ask questions nor apologize about the poor quality of the food. she did say she would talk to the chef. I was amazed and quite frankly shocked at the chefs reply "That's the way it comes!" Like, what the hell, what kind of reply is that? That was an extremely arrogant and careless reply to the complaints for 5 out of 6 terrible meals.. I will not be returning. read more

C&R has new owners/management since January 2025. I've gone there my whole life and always had good food and good service but not so much now. We had terrible food and service. It took 10-15 minutes to get our drinks. It took another 10 minutes to be able to order our food. Everything came really slow - appetizer in another 20 minutes then salad about 15 minutes later and then finally the meal almost 1 1/2 hours after we arrived. I ordered the fried haddock and it was severely overcooked - very brown, dry, and the fish was attached to the batter. The fries that came with it were soggy. When we told the server who conveyed the message to the cook, he said "that's the way it comes". We had an undercooked hamburger at our table, along with overcooked kids chicken nuggets and an overcooked roast beef dinner. One meal of the 6 at our table was cooked ok. It's very sad because I have a lot of memories of this place, but I will never be back. read more

I only gave 2 stars because of good service. But really 1 star for food. The bread and butter was fine. The cooked vegetables we're probably frozen because they were not crunchy. The fries was cooked in oil that have been used over and over again which is why my fries were dark. The fish was soggy but crisp crust. I never had that fish and chips that way ever! We stopped by for a family dinner on our way to getting our Christmas Tree. The restaurant was empty, being the day after Thanksgiving at 3:00. The waitress was friendly and attentive and the food was good. Our dishes included Chicken Parmigiana (you can get it fried or broiled), Shrimp Scampi with mixed vegetables, and a Grilled Chicken Salad, and Fish & Chips. They say they are famous for their fries, and they were quite good. The kids enjoyed their macaroni & cheese, which tasted straight out of the Kraft Box, which is what kids prefer anyway. They have a full bar also. The food was good, nothing exceptional, but you are lucky to find an open restaurant in the area in the winter time. read more

My wife and I took my parents there for dinner last night. My father and I ordered prime rib my wife chicken parm and my mother vegetable primavera. Both prime ribs came out cold with no au jus. My mothers dish came out with what appeared to be frozen vegetables on angel hair with a cheddar cheese sauce instead of the " light cream sauce" the menu stated. The cheddar cheese sauce was starting to harden as sauces that aren't hot tend to do. My wife called the waitress over to explain the problem and we were told " Its not my fault I didn't cook it" the waitress went on to explain that the cheese sauce was an Alfredo and wife replied Alfredo is not orange but usually white. The vegetable dish went back and was taken off the bill, the 2 prime ribs were boxed up and fed to dogs ( expensive dog food) The French fries that came with my fathers meal weren't even fully fried and looked limp and greasy. The mozzarella on the chicken was barely melted but the chicken was cooked. The only positive thing I can report was that the iced tea was delicious. We have tried this restaurant several times and each time has been absolutely delicious. I had their prime rib and it came out perfectly cooked just the way I like it. Came out a nice red color was warm and very delicious. My boyfriend had chicken parmesan with spaghetti and he enjoyed how tender and juicy the chicken was. Their fried fish is always very good. My kids enjoy the burgers and the homemade french fries. Their homemade desserts are always wonderful and worth trying to save room to enjoy. Staff is very friendly and attentive. We came here last night for dinner after our original place we planned on going to didn't have any available reservations. So, we went to C&R for dinner after my mother in law remembered that she used to go to C&R many times with her husband on her way to their house in Edinburg. Her husband did not like fish, yet he always got scrod there which he said was always perfect. Long story short, we were a group of 6 people and every single meal was on point! Shrimp Alfredo, Shrimp Scampi, Hamburger, Chicken fingers, pork chops were all perfect! The breading on the chicken was nice and light and crusty. The Alfredo sauce was not heavy and perfectly balanced. The shrimp in both the scampi and Alfredo was fresh and didn't have a fishy smell. Portion sizes were just right! We even had dessert which was also amazing like the meals! The lava cake and coconut cream pie were to die for! You can tell all the food was made with care and love! Service was spectacular! Our waitress was on top of everything! How she kept track of everything and got it all right is beyond me! Given the times with many establishments being short staffed, I would expect a little hiccup now and then, but everything was exceptional! Thank you again C&R for a great experience! If you are tooling down 29 and hunger strikes, pull into C&R. It is a classic roadhouse where they care about food and you will be well taken care of. I can say this just on the strength of my lunch today, a burger that overwhelmed its bun and dark, salty fries ("famous even in Idaho" the waitress said) served with brown gravy that was so good the ketchup sat on the table untouched. C&R is on the south side of 29, about a mile west of the 147 intersection. I had never noticed it on many trips until I read my Yelp friend Aaron's review then saw Nat's comment about the fried chicken. Funny thing, neither the monster rib nor the fried chicken is on the menu at the moment but that is not a bad thing... the menu is modest and they run lots of daily specials so the kitchen doesn't over-reach itself. In fact I would suggest you check the daily specials first. There is also a bar that looks like a pleasant place to spend an hour if you are in Galway and up for some nightlife. read more

If you like Steak - this is the place for you. In the Fulton county/ Western Saratoga County area - it's hard to find better Prime Rib than they have here. They have a variety of sizes including a 32oz bone in roasted Prime Rib. If you don't already know - 2lbs of on the bone peppercorn encrusted prime rib is not the easiest cut to find. Not to mention that its amazing. I have had this specific cut maybe 6 times at this establishment. They also have a 64 oz sirloin if you think your a lumber jack. I have only done the pile of Sirloin once. It's a heart stopper. That being said - the service has always been great here. Lots of parking. Lots of seats. The food is always great. In an area that has not always been known for Haute' Cuisine this is a place that is affordable and consistent. The chowder is good here as well. read more

Best. Fried. Chicken. Ever. EVER!! C&R is on the way to Saratoga Springs from my in-laws' place in Gloversville, NY. I have driven by it many times and never noticed it but this weekend my MIL took us out for dinner there. Needless to say, my expectations were fairly low given the area but I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised! The menu was pretty standard and included a variety of meal options all at very reasonable prices. I ordered the southern fried chicken special which came with a salad and choice of potato for $8.95. The salad was super fresh with homemade Parmesan & pepper dressing. My entree arrived with four large pieces of chicken all lightly battered and fried super crisp. It was UNREAL! My mashed potatoes were made from scratch as was the cranberry sauce on the side. I loved every bite of this meal! We ordered desserts to go from the special list. I had the peanut butter chocolate mousse pie which was unbelievably good. My hubby had the key lime pie which was small but super dense & tasty. MIL got the three layer carrot cake which I swear must have weighed five pounds! But my sister-in-law beat us all with the coconut cream pie that was absolutely out of this world delicious! If you ever find yourself in or around Saratoga Springs and you're tired of paying a ridiculous amount of money for a mediocre dinner, do yourself a favor and drive the 20 minutes down Rte 29 to the C&R for some cheap, tasty and unpretentious food. read more

Virtually everything is pre-made, like cafeteria food. Good cafeteria food, but there's no art to this food at all. No hostess/greeter. From the bar: "Sit where you want, I'll find ya." Not to say that's bad, as I've been to many good places that handle patrons like this, but this wasn't one of those good places. Hard to go above and beyond when you're one of the only places around, I guess. Sam Adams Boston Lager was funked. They obviously didn't clean their beer lines. Huge minus right off the bat for me. If the beer lines are gross, what else is gross here... I'd settled on this after all my other choices were "out". Burgers are pre-formed, likely from frozen delivery, on generic packaged buns, with a small square of processed cheese. Lame. Came with a side of flimsy chips obviously from a bargain bag. No pickle, no lettuce, no tomato. As naked as could be. At least the bun was toasted... Lame. Roast beef hot sandwich came with hand-cut fries but was drenched in jarred gravy. Roast beef was well done, on generic packaged untoasted white bread, otherwise unadorned. Loaded waffle fries (pre-made, seasoned) had home-cooked bacon, but some weird pudding-like cheese sauce. Nothing else. Barely what I'd call loaded. Were we not extremely hungry, we wouldn't have finished these. Edible, but not worth a return trip. The waitress/hostess was also in some sort of mood. She was constantly complaining about little things that would have gone unnoticed. It definitely took away from what little dining experience we had. Had presentation been the same but with fresh made ingredients, they would have scored higher. My advice to them is to start actually making real food and clean their beer lines (correctly) at least weekly. And they need to start training their staff to properly attend to diners. read more

I was really disappointed. The food was good but the service was awful. We stopped on a Monday night during track season. The waitess was clearly overwhelmed and it did ruin our experience. She avoided eye contact. We never were able to get refills on drinks or waters, and my nephew didn't eat his chicken nuggets because we were never able to order sauce for them. She didn't even bring the check! The atmophere feels a little bit like a diner and the lights are too bright. I recommend skipping the place. read more

The Manhattan clam chowder was weak, however the blue cheese dressing had very chunky the bread was very fresh ordered a prime rib yet received a new york strip however it had a wonderful charcoal taste the lobster a little overdone yet appreciated the real drawn butter kept warm over all not a bad place for being some 20 miles out in no where. There are three choices if you're looking for a place to eat on Route 29 between Saratoga and Broadalbin. You can go to the C&R Restaurant, the Village Pizzeria, or Stewart's. While I haven't yet been to the Village Pizzeria, I already know Stewart's deli dogs and make-your-own-sundaes quite well, so I decided to check out C&R. At the time, I didn't know that Thursdays are draft and wing night. That little surprise was not revealed until a surprisingly small bill arrived at the end of the evening. No, instead I was set on wings as soon as I smelled them upon entering the restaurant. They're grilled and extra crispy, which was great because there's nothing worse than limp, mushy wings. I was a big fan of the golden barbecue sauce; it had a kick to it and it wasn't too sweet/sugary like so many of them can be. Also, it came with a small vat of bleu cheese. That earned a big gold star in my book, especially compared to those places that give you the tiny shot glass that's too narrow to dip the side of your wing into. If you take away one thing about C&R, note that they are very generous with their condiments. My dining companion ordered the turkey dinner and received a full-sized gravy boat to go along with the turkey breast, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. Just as I was sold on the wings upon entry, I knew I had to get the Shipyard seasonal once I sat down at my table and saw the sign for it. They also have Yuengling and a few macro brews on draft, so it was a solid craft beer choice. Best of all, mugs are only $2.50 on Thursdays nights, which was a real deal for such a great winter ale. Only one, very small, note of caution: If you're a bit of a socializer like me, make sure you're there by 6:30 or 7. Even though they have a bar, they're only open until 9:30 (10 on the weekends), and the dining crowd really disappeared by 7:30, so that when 8:30 rolled around, the place was very empty. Understandable, since it's a bit of a drive home from here no matter where you live, but keep this in mind. read more

We go out to eat about once a month. This month we decided on the C&R in Galway. We used to go to the C&R many years ago for a special treat. It is no longer a treat. There were 6 of us on this trip. I am not going to go into detail about each meal, just saying that nothing we had was good. The service was fine but not the food. My grandson's fries were sitting in a puddle of grease, my wifes 10oz steak was 3 small pieces, each done differently. As I said, I am not going into details but, we will never go back!!! My family and I were out for a drive on Mother's Day and stopped to try the buffet. Ham and turkey very good, Caesar salad looked like it'd been out since 8 AM and it was 4 PM, lettuce leaves were wilted and appeared to be soggy. Stuffing was like uncooked bread dough. Waitstaff was directly behind our table talking about splitting tips and how business wasn't good.
