Waitress was very nice as well as accommodating! Food was just ehhh, we had burgers back in November that were phenomenal! The burgers this night were just ehh not nearly the flavor like before! A group of four people came in and were so LOUD the larger group of us couldn't even conversation and nothing was even said to them as they were obviously already intoxicated! Peanut butter cake and carrot cake were good! Wings Jamaican rubbed were good. Penne Ala vodka good. Chicken parm sub left a little to be desired for flavor! Recommend taking a drive periodically to Lake Desolation to spend some time at Tinney's with their great food, particularly their burgers and homemade Saratoga chips. We were visiting from out of town and our place had a menu for this restaurant. We tried to place an order online, but their website was not working. I then called the restaurant got put on hold and no one ever picked back up. I tried calling back, but they apparently only have one phone line and it was busy from my call that was parked on hold indefinitely. We ended up driving there and placing an order. Told it would be an hour Before the food would be ready for takeout. When we came back an hour later to pick it up, it was cold. The food was meh. We came here fall 2023 after goat yoga. While the food wasn't terrible, the unwelcoming atmosphere cast a shadow over the experience. Upon entering, we received no greeting, and the emptiness of the restaurant allowed us to seat ourselves. The waitress said to "wait next time so I see you" which was perplexing considering the nearly empty space - there was no way she wouldn't have seen us. (There also won't be a next time) The service was painfully slow. The locals, who seemed to be regulars, stared at us, adding to the uncomfortable ambiance. It seemed like our server couldn't be bothered and clearly displayed a disinterest in her job. Her display of rudeness was entirely uncalled for. Her lack of courtesy and evident disdain for her role tainted the experience. The overall experience left us uncomfortable and unwelcome. To add to the frustrations, we were blindsided by a credit card fee that no one bothered to mention. Transparency is crucial, and this charge only added to the overall unpleasantness. I hope Tinney's takes customer feedback to heart and addresses these issues to create a more inviting atmosphere for all patrons. I can confidently say we won't be coming back. read more

I've been here twice since they changed owners. I feel the place has gotten too riff-raffy and unwelcoming for me. Between the locals, bikers, and the servers, it's just not a pleasant place. The last two times I've been there I only had drinks. It was pretty expensive: 2 rum and cokes set me back ~$30. I'm pretty sure I said the last time I wouldn't be back, and I made the mistake of going again some 12 months later. This is my reminder to not go back haha. Wife and I visited Tinney's a couple weeks ago. We'd been there before. The hamburgers are outstanding. The whole atmosphere in Lake Desolation and the ambiance at Tinney's make the visit worthwhile. Although the hamburgers did not disappoint, the experience did. Wife and I ordered the same beer, beer X. Server arrived with one pint glass, ¾ full. Last beer in the keg. I ordered alternative, beer Y. We finished eating and were watching a ball game on TV and I wanted a little more beer to wash down the last of the burger and see the end of the game. I asked the server if they had any smaller beer glasses. He said he'd find out. He arrived with a glass of beer Y, which I'd say was about a half pint but wasn't really a beer glass but some find of cocktail glass. But it served the purpose. So our bill arrived. And on it we were charged for TWO beer X and TWO beer Y. I'm no longer young and I've been drinking beer for a long time at many, many, different places. I've never had a bartender charge me for the last beer in the keg, especially if it isn't a full glass, which it was not. And, I've never been charged full pint price for a "short" beer. Either the server or the bartender needs an education... or I am, in fact, now so old that I'm totally out of step with the protocols and courtesies of beer serving. But in spite of how much we like visiting Tinney's for all good reasons, I don't think we'll be back. read more

Lake Desolation is that...desolate. Tinneys is the only game in town. That being said, it has a great view of the lake and the food is worth the visit. The special that day was 2 pizzas for $17. A bargain! Because it's cooked in a wood fire it had a thin crisp crust. SO ordered the prime rib pizza while I tried a sausage mushroom pie. Yes, we had leftovers being just the two of us, but who doesn't love leftovers. Menu had many choices which is an encouragement to return. Parking lot is large enough for patrons and those parking after putting kyacks in the water. They do not seem to welcome dogs, but I don't push my service dog on people. I have no problem sitting outside with my furry helper. Outside has tables on the deck and there is also a covered porch. Plenty of room for everyone. read more

Tinney's Tavern caught our attending when we learned that the owner, Kevin, recently purchased the Greenfield Village Inn which is not far from where my husband and I live. It's been closed since I moved to the area 12 years ago, so we're quite excited to hear that it is slated to open next year. Our first 'attempt' to dine at Tinney's was on a Saturday night a few weeks ago. Made a reservation that 'Kitchen Kevin' apparently didn't write down. On the way to the tavern, we noticed quite a few trees and large tree branches in the road. When we arrived at the tavern, we were told that they had to close because of the wind - it was blowing down their makeshift outdoor pavilion. So we ordered take-out burgers (very tasty and, from what I gather, what they're known for) which we ate in the car. Our second try included meeting friends on a Friday night. Made a reservation. Got there a few minutes early. Our friends shortly after us. They had our table (outside) ready in minutes. A lovely view of Lake Desolation on a perfect summer night. The menu is basic bar food, for the most part. Burgers, wings, nachos, sandwiches, salads, and pizza. But here's the difference: everything is scratch-made. Their Jalapeno Poppers were amazing; cream cheese stuffed and wrapped with bacon. I was glad we ordered two plates to start. Having enjoyed their Black & Blue Burger the last time (you know, the night a tornado touched down in Corinth and we wound up eating in the car in Tinney's parking lot), I decided to try the Garlic Parm Chicken Wings (a personal favorite) and fries. Did I mention that they hand-cut their fries? They do, and you can tell. These were not Sysco. The wings were superb, and even though they were an appetizer, the portion was large enough to share with my friend whose burger was, sadly, the size of a squished meatball and quite disappointing (ours were much nicer on our first visit when we did take-out). I still had wings to bring home! My husband said his Rueben was very good, and my girlfriend liked her beef tacos - also a generous plateful. My girlfriend and I had Bloodies and mine was exactly as I ordered it - not too spicy. In fact, I asked for additional horseradish which was no problem. I also requested some lemon and that came with the horseradish. I would suggest that they dress up their Bloodies a bit with the customary celery/olives/lemon as the glass looks rather barren when presented by the wait staff. Just sayin'. Service was slow but I will chalk that up to the unusual conditions under which the tavern must operate according to COVID-19 rules. We tipped Kate very generously. We will return when in the mood for burgers and wings with a view and maybe even give their wood-fired pizza a shot ... although - fair warning - this Jersey Girl is really picky about her pizza! read more

Friends had been discussing the wood-fired pizza served here and an internet video of their pizza being baked. But other than one of them who had only been here a number of years ago under previous ownership, none of the others had. And so it was that we plugged the address into our car's GPS for our first ever visit. The kitchen closes at 8 pm on Sunday and we arrived at 6:15 to an empty dining room, a nice warm wood stove, three customers sitting at the bar, a football game on one TV, and NASCAR on the other. We even received a friendly "Hi!" upon our entry from one employee, and a "Good to see you again!" from another. As we selected one of the tables closest to the wood stove our server promptly informed us of two Specials that night as she handed us menus. We asked what was on draft and chose the Davidson Brothers Brown ($4.50/pt) over three others which included a Sam Adams Oktoberfest and maybe a couple of Budweisers. One of the Specials was an Appetizer Sampler ($6) which included 4 wings, 3 mozzarella sticks, 3 onion rings, and 3 chicken tenders. We ordered this while we perused the pizza offerings. The wings were the hit on this platter - crispy, meaty, and moist, with our choice of honey habanero sauce. The platter was served with sides of blue cheese and marinara sauces. I forgot to request the melba sauce for the mozzarella sticks. But the blue cheese was actually excellent on the sticks, rings and tenders. The tenders had a nice breading but the chicken was overcooked and only saved by that blue cheese sauce. The onion rings and mozzarella sticks were typical of the frozen variety. We skipped over the second Special of the night, an 8-cut cheese pizza that was maybe a couple dollars less than usual, so that we could try the Sausage and Pepper version ($10.50). The crust edges rise nicely in the oven and have a good flavor. The center of the pizza is heavily weighed down with cheese. It's a really tasty cheese that is not overly oily and easily stretches with each piece you remove from the try. But the cheese will prevent you from attempting to pick up a slice in your hand to eat. The house-made sausage on the pizza is crumbled bulk that hardens in the oven, giving it a crispy and contrasting texture to the cheese and dough. My preference would have been for some noticeable fennel flavor in it. The thinly sliced peppers appear to be previously sautéed to the point of some becoming translucent. They did not add any noticeable flavor. Maybe it's just that all that cheese overpowers the other flavors. The major discussion between my wife and myself once the pizza was served, however, was whether the dominant flavor we were experiencing was smoky, charred, ashy, or burnt. I preferred to use the first two while my wife said it reminded her of burnt toast. Certainly, if you look at the pictures I took you would not recognize any burnt crust. But if you looked at the bottom of a slice you definitely would see some brown and black spots. I backed my opinion on the fact that while the thick and airy, crust edges had this flavor they were a nice golden brown. She backs her opinion on my photo of the top vs. bottom photo. The bottom line is that I really enjoyed the pizza (and the wings). It's probably not going to get any rave reviews from someone preferring a NYC style. And I probably should have stopped eating after my share of the pizza, but the chalk board listed slices of pie from Smith's Orchard and Bake Shop ($4.50). I chose the Blueberry over the Apple and skipped the ala mode. It would have been better if the chill from the cooler had been taken off the pie before serving it. Otherwise, I still have my weakness for Smith's pies. This is a really friendly place and probably very popular with snowmobilers in the winter. Hopefully, the lake in the Summer also keeps enough customers coming year round. read more

The first time we ate there this year the tavern had a great wait staff, gluten free options and all was well. Last night we came in around 4:00, sat down and waited for service. Within the next 10 minutes 4 more parties came in and seated themselves. All 4 parties received service but we did not. We sat there for 15 minutes more, everyone else received menus and ordered drinks. Nothing for our party of 5. We left. We were entertaining friends from out of state so it was important for us to have good service. It would have been nice for someone to acknowledge we were there but we're not locals. I understand things like this happen but it's track season, it's summer and it's out of the way. Would be nice to have wait staff on call. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in this area, I eat here pretty consistently. This being given I just wanted to say that after having been recently I am unsure if there is a new chef or something of the like, but I noticed that the reuben did not have meat in the same fashion as it was before. I don't mean to be a bother, but it was much more difficult to chew and less flavorful. After waiting 30 minutes, my husband politely said to a different waiter "I know the waitress is really busy, would you mind getting our bill for us?" His response was "I'm busy too!" The only reason I didn't give 1 star is we are coming out of the pandemic. Good vibe, very poor service. My entire family was done with their meals 10 minutes before mine arrived (we all ordered at the same time). When my pizza arrived 30 minutes after everyone else's, it was missing key ingredients the menu said it had. Mistakes are OK, not apologizing and taking the mistake off the bill is not OK. My father was so embarrassed on his birthday as this was the first time he took my husband and I here. Service was outstanding even though they only had three servers between a full bar, inside area, and patio. Menu is much more varied than we expected! Decent beer list too, full of local drafts. Food was delicious! Highly recommend the wings (we did spicy garlic Parmesan), pepperoni rolls, fried chicken dinner, and cobb salad. Wish we saved room for dessert. We decided at the last minute to go out to dinner this past Sunday. We decided to try Tinneys Tavern after hearing good things. We arrived at approximately 6:30 ish, seated ourselves. It took a while for the waitress to arrive at our table to deliver menus and order drinks. There were only two other tables eating at this time. Sodas arrived, which were flat by the way, and our orders placed for cheeseburger, fish fry and turkey melt, nothing complicated. We were talking amongst ourselves and after approximately 45 minutes started to wonder where our food was. As we were waiting, we noticed that one of the waitresses/bar person kept wandering out onto the deck playing with a dog. The dog was jumping up on her, kissing her and petting him. Not that I have a problem with being affectionate with a dog. I am a dog lover, but if you work in a food establishment and are handling food, drinks, utensils etc there is a time and place. She was not wearing an apron to catch the dog hair. She kept coming back in and not washing her hands then handling drinks, plates, silverware, etc. We were going to have a problem if she brought my plate of food over after witnessing her not wash her hands. No one came over to refresh drinks etc. After another 10 minutes the waitress Jeanette came over to table to inform us that " she forgot to put our order in". No apology offered. I inquired how much longer it would be, " it will only be 15 more minutes." 20 more minutes passed, no food. Another female came over, no apology offered again. She offered an appetizer, but at this point we really wanted our dinner. I asked again how much longer and was told only a few more minutes. It was now 7:40 pm. Getting really frustrated and hungry at this point. We knew that there really was no place else to go to grab a bite this late and where we were located. I then told her we would like fresh water since the soda was flat. We waited, then another female came over, she offered the first apology and offered 50% discount. We inquired again how long and was told minutes. We waited for 5 more minutes then walked out. You would think that if you made the mistake of not placing a food order for your customer, you would have the common courtesy to apologize over and over and make sure that the food was prepared and delivered promptly. With all the staff there, not one of them noticed how long we had sat there with no food, no fresh drinks, etc. Poor customer service and we will not ever be going there again. read more

The fish fry on Friday nights is simple, fish and fries, has always been very tasty. The hamburgers also consistently good along with really good fries. Clean, comfortable place with a nice fairly small bar and dining area and a small but comfy deck overlooking Lake Desolation. Good selection of rotating craft beers and a comfort food menu, although somewhat limited in size, but just plain good food. The Spicy Garlic Parm wings are excellent and the pizzas are handmade wood fired different choices to pick from with excellent crusts. A little burnt around the edges, but it all adds to the flavor. We had a great weekend celebrating a family event with the BF's fam. We decided to make a lunch stop at one of the "local eateries" (I'm told). We drove by a gorgeous lake and was surprised to find this little cabin like restaurant propped up looking over the beautiful body of water outside. You walk in and you'll see this cozy little place with a small bar and a sit yourself down wherever you like atmosphere. Their menu consists mainly of burgers and sandwiches and their specials are hung on the wall. I was torn, really between the burgers which everyone else seemed to be getting and the blackened chicken sandwich was caramelized onions on the board. I opted for that given that everyone else had burgers! The sandwich was very nicely cooked, handled carefully, full of flavor and juicy. It was sweetened with the onions and the fries, o my the fries!, were awesome. They were steak fries fried until slightly crispy with a slightly spicy seasoning that was overall not very salty. Perfectly done. I eyed the egg burger that other family members were eating which was devoured within seconds. Definitely a nice place to be with great service. I've been twice since they've reopened. The menu is very limited, which is fine, but the food seems to be frozen Sysco-type stuff. We've ordered three medium rare burgers between our visits and they've all been well-done. If you're not going to cook it medium rare, just say so, I'll order something else. I recently moved to the capital region so I've been exploring quite a bit. Lake Desolation randomly popped out on a map (I've spent some time in desolation wilderness California, what a cool name!). My first visit was during winter and I didn't notice the actual lake when I stumbled upon a cozy restaurant (the lake was iced over and unrecognizable with snow mobile's zipping around). The wood stove in the corner and old ski's hanging on the walls created a warm ambience. The waitress was friendly and attentive even though a large group arrived shortly before me. I over heard that the chef was new but OH MY GOSH he is amazing! I had to try the shrimp and grits special. Beautifully grilled shrimp over creamy grits with an incredible smoky and slightly spicy BBQ sauce. On my second trek I was astonished to find the same cozy restaurant was actually nestled picturesquely lakeside. There are really neat tables on the patio that look new and custom built. This time I went for the triple stack sandwich special because I was told it was going to be on their new menu. House smoked brisket, pulled pork AND house made kielbasa. If that's not mouthwatering enough it was topped with slaw and the most divine zucchini pickles! The hand cut fries were perfectly seasoned and crispy. The service was lacking with only one other table in the dining room but the quality and quantity of food more than made up for it. Tinney's tavern is definitely worth the drive but I still wish I lived closer to eat here more often. Note: A previous review seemed appalled that they close at 11 on weekends but I think it's completely reasonable. Most restaurants stop serving food at 10 o'clock anyways and it is a fairly remote area (refer to lake name above). read more
