Steak, mashed and green beans

Lake Ridge has always had such promise and has always disappointed. The ambiance is quaint and very clean. Staff is friendly, helpful and attentive without being over bearing and we never felt rushed. It's the kind of restaurant that you wouldn't mind paying premium prices, if the food were good. First the good - the green beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned and were the bright green color that makes them look as good as they taste. Awesome. Now the not so good - the Caesar salad was covered in a watery Italian dressing that didn't taste like Caesar dressing or much of anything. The mashed potatoes were not quite room temperature, the steak was barely so and both were painfully over salted. It was hard to tell what other seasoning, if any was used. I'm hoping this was just an off night, but it's a lot of money to spend to find out.

Pork and Sea Scallops and Pork Belly

Honestly, everything. The vibe, the peeps, the company, the food, everything was great. Compliments to the chef. App: scallops and pork : slapped. Never thought of this combo but they complemented each other so well. Pork edges were perfectly crispy but the center was tender. Lightly sweetened like maple bacon. The scallops were also lightly seared perfectly, not too fishy of a taste. Made me fall in love with scallops all over again. Main: pecan crusted pork chop: 10/10, the sauce was slightly sweet and the pork was well cooked. man take me back there just for the pork! Veal and crab: 3/10. disappointed. First bite was promising until the acidic aftertaste of the sauce set in and then only got stronger with each bite. The flavor of the crab was wonderful, very fresh. But only if that sauce wasn't on it. Meal was salvaged by dipping it in the sauce from the pecan crusted pork chop.

Counting down the time till we go back! Family has been telling us about this place for years and we have driven by it 100x. We finally made a point to go to celebrate some birthdays and it was everything they had bragged about and more. Make sure you make a reservation! Of course you are paying for the experience and the fabulous dishes but you will not be disappointed! When you walk in it smells delicious and feels like you are walking into someone's living room. The whole space is warm and cozy. The staff was friendly and professional during the entire experience but the cocktails and dishes are the real stars here. The drink list is extensive and each cocktail we got was great. Literally something for everyone: between margaritas all different whiskeys. Our group started with (THE famous) Lobster Betty, the soup of the day (shrimp, curry, corn chowder) and the scallops. The Lobster Betty was on a bed of greens with the most flavorful shallots/swish chard/butter sauce. It's worth not sharing with anyone else! Each of our dinners where delicious and unique. Always wait to hear the specials because they seemed like a hit! I had the goat cheese fig crusted salmon and it was so good. I appreciate when the sides are made with just as much care as the main piece of the the entree. The rice, potatoes and asparagus where perfectly done as well. Now normally I don't dive into dessert because I would rather eat all different dishes, but we got three different desserts for the table and they were fabulous. The key lime pie was one of the bests I've ever had. It felt like it was from the islands the limes were so fresh and not sweet at all! We can not wait to go back!

The food was very good but a tad pricey. I ordered he filet, shrimp, and scallops which was excellent. The menu has options for all members of the family. The only complaint we had was it was a little small and cramped. During peak hours it was very loud and made inner conversations difficult.

Went here for a romantic dinner with my husband. It's totally off the grid and I would call this a restaurant where you would take your parents when they're in town. Crowd on average is definitely a little older but there were some people in the under 40 crowd. We had a reservation, although I don't necessarily know that you'd need one because it wasn't that busy. The restaurant is quaint inside, romantic and intimate. They serve warm focaccia bread with herb butter and balsamic vinegar and oil dipping options. I got the house salad and my Cesar salad which were ok but nothing to write home about. Ever the carnivore, I ordered the surf and turf which was 2 petite filets with lobster, mashed potatoes, and green beans. The filets were divine and cooked to perfection, the mashed potatoes subtly delicious. My husband ordered the seafood stew which had shrimp, clams, scallops and salmon in a tomato based broth. It was really quite good, and the smaller $18 portion was plenty. Of note, they have a lot of seafood on the menu of you're a fish lover. Service was quick and good, just what you'd expect at a place this nice. My only knock on it was that the surf and turf was $38, it was one of the specials so the price wasn't displayed anywhere when we ordered, not a huge deal but you can get a lot more bang for your buck at a slightly more hip place that won't require you to get your GPS out to find.

The chop salad... a picture is worth a thousand words. It was delicious! (Crab cake in background)

It was ok. Close to home but overpriced for the location and food. I am never a fan of a la cart restaurants so maybe it was just me!

Located right on the corner of U.S. Route 9 and Malta Ave in Ballston Spa, the outside is pretty low-key. The parking lot was a bit dark, with most of the light coming from the building itself but don't let that fool you. You walk in and you're right at the bar , with plenty of seating barside or table, if that's your vibe. Not into sitting up front? No problem, there's additional seating in the back for a more relaxed feel. Service was a win. Our waiter was courteous, attentive, and accommodating without hovering. Now the food, the Gooouda Burger caught my eye immediately. I ordered it bunless, wrapped in buttery romaine lettuce, topped with crispy bacon and fried onions. Paired it with their straw fries (seriously good) and a cold beer to wash it down. First bite? Exactly what you want. Food to temp, everything was crisp not soggy, the burger was cooked perfectly, even at well done, which is not easy to pull off. I can only speak for the burger, but based on that alone: don't judge this place by its exterior. Give it a shot, you might be pleasantly surprised. (And yes... the picture is of a burger I couldn't wait to bite into )

We had 3, $25 strip steak special dinners and all were tender, flavorful and perfectly cooked. A Reuben sandwich had real homemade corned beef on it, kids meals were tasty and exactly as described. Vegetable cookery was fantastic, homemade dressings and plentiful portions. We will definitely be back, and we hope the chef and Tina will still be there! The common ordinary comfort food, plain, predictable, uninspiring…read more The soup that warmed us up as kids, was the fallback when there was really no time to cook lunch, yeah, good ole tomato soup, we all know its story. Enter the chefs at the Ripe Tomato. No canned Campbell's or Sysco soup for them. This dish (I believe it was called Tomato Soup with Dill and Crab) comes to life in the Ripe Tomato kitchen from scratch, with chunks of tomato and some onion, a bit of dill, and a generous amount of crab meat. I asked and yes, it IS real lump crab meat, not that pathetic imitation stuff that some think can be sold as "crab". Add in a pinch of dill, and whatever it takes to make the soup delightfully creamy without being thick and pasty, and the creation is ready to serve. This dish above all else demonstrates my long held belief that superb cooking does not need a French name, unpronounceable ingredients, an hour's waiting time, being served in some sort of exquisite china by snobby haughty waiters, to be magical and engaging. Ordinary everyday food, and nothing is more ordinary and everyday than tomato soup, can become an experience and not just part of a meal; an amazing surprise that rocks one's understanding of what dish can and should be; in the hands of a talented and inspired chef. The Ripe Tomato has become our favorite lunch spot in the Tri-Cities. If we went out for dinner, it would be our favorite dinner spot. Warm, homey, welcoming, without pretense or glitter, when we walk in the door we feel at home. The place is real and enjoyable. Service is excellent, prompt, always considerate and friendly. The service is such that it is easy to feel that you are at your friend's place, and they made some special meals that they want to share. Lest you think that culinary excellence is going to cost an arm and a leg, I had an enormous and delicious order of quiche for an entree with my soup; my wife had a large Bahama Salad with enough tender juicy chicken for 2 meals, and the price was the same as 2 burgers at Red Robin. Granted that would be 2 of their fancier burgers, but tell me - what would YOU rather eat? I am running out of time here, but I want to assure you that the entrees live up to the expectations generated by the soup.

I brought my mother and her friend to Ripe Tomato because we had always spoken highly of it, and her friend had never been there before. Unfortunately, it turned into an embarrassing experience after all the praise we gave it. My mother ordered the pot roast, which was supposed to include carrots and rolls. The meal arrived without the carrots, and when I politely asked about them, the bus girl rolled her eyes at us. The carrots finally came after my mother was basically finished eating, and the rolls never came at all. Our friend ordered the Haddock Almondine, which was missing the mashed potatoes that were supposed to come with the meal. Again, attitude when we asked about it. To top it off, I never received a place setting when we were seated, and when I asked for one, the same bus girl slammed it down on the table. I do want to say the waitress herself was pleasant, and I understand restaurants can be short-staffed and mistakes happen. Missing items can be corrected. Rude behavior and dismissive attitudes toward customers are a different story. What disappointed me even more was that I attempted to bring these concerns directly to management privately before posting a public review. I sent two polite emails explaining the experience, and both were met with complete silence -- not even the courtesy of an acknowledgment or response. A little professionalism and customer service would have gone a long way.

No problem parking on this visit in January. The dining and bar area had maybe four other parties when we arrived at 1 p.m. We probably didn't need to have made a reservation, but it was better to have been safe than disappointed. The bartender was assigned to serve our table and informed us of three delicious sounding soups that were available - Italian Wedding, French Onion, and the third that none of us tried. Instead, water, Cola ($3), and a winter warming Chatham - Oh Snaps! ($8) were our appetizers. The Oh Snaps brown ale was smooth and flavorful with its addition of cinnamon and ginger. My Smash Burger ($16.99) was served on a fresh bun with two patties, American cheese, sauteed onions, lettuce, tomato, and their house "birdie sauce." I opted to upgrade my side to onion rings for $3. I was not asked how I wanted my burgers cooked and they came out medium by my judgement. Overall, the combination of all the flavors was good. The onion rings appeared to be made inhouse and were tasty. My fellow diners were very pleased with their Club sandwich ($16.99) and Fried Chicken Sandwich ($16.99).
