French Onion Soup
Brittany H.

Chez Nous had a very impressive menu. All of the staff were so friendly and accommodating, we were a large table of 11 people. First off they allowed separate checks, which was amazing. The drinks were all good, I had the Jack Frost. I started off with the French onion soup, because it's a favorite. Theirs was pretty good , and great presentation. My husband had the calamari which was good. For entrees I had the beef and shrimp étouffée, it was definitely an original take on it. My beef was a little overcooked from medium, but the flavors were right. The presentation of the meal was great. My husband enjoyed his jambalaya. We finished our meal with crème brûlée which was very good.

Chateau Briand?

Visited during restaurant week 2024 and enjoyed the experience. Homey ambiance, good service and delicious food. Loved my stuffed sole, which had nice sized chunks of scallops in the stuffing under a delicious sauce. The "chateau briand" was tasty but misleading as it was just a beef tenderloin without the duxelles and pastry. Looking at the regular menu, I'd return with friend for another enjoyable meal.

A week has passed since we dined at Chez Nous and I've had plenty of time to consider what to write. But I'm still undecided what the final rating should be as our total experience was mixed. We were a party of six celebrating a combination retirement and birthday. Management was nice enough to offer us a private room on the second floor. This was perfect. While we are not a boisterous group, there was a lot of reminiscing to discuss and I'm sure it would have been annoying to other diners who came for a nice quiet or romantic dinner. The only downside was to the servers who would have to repeatedly climb the stairs to simply check on us or serve us. Speaking of servers, they were excellent - friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with us. I can only describe the meals for my wife and myself although I have the impression that the other four guests were pleased with their choices. Three appetizers had been ordered by the host, before we arrived, for all of us to share. All were very good, but nothing was exceptional enough to still stand out in my mind today. They were: - A cassoulet of stewed tenderloin of beef and mushrooms with beans, duchess potatoes, blue cheese, and crispy onions. - Large shrimp, lightly spiced and grilled, drizzled with honey, and served over rice. - Buttermilk marinated calamari, lightly breaded and fried, served with sides of garlic aioli and marinara. I was excited to see venison offered on the menu. I can't recall the last time I had it, and it was probably served then as part of a stew. Here it was offered as a grilled tenderloin with a brown gravy containing ingredients that I don't recall. I knew that venison was a very lean meat, but in spite of the Chef's care to not overcook it I found it dry and lacking in flavor. I reiterate, this is no fault of the Chef. I've decided that grilled venison is just not a dish I'll be looking to order anywhere, anytime soon. The accompanying asparagus was typical, but the cheesy filled puffed pastry was unique and tasty. My wife ordered the Baked Sole with a scallop stuffing - topped with a champagne cream sauce and served with asparagus and rice. She thought it was an OK dish but nothing outstanding. She was less impressed with the Bananas Foster that she had for dessert. She said there was too much of a spice, possibly cinnamon, that she believed unbalanced the dish to her liking. But I have to tell you that the highlight of the meal for me was my dessert, Chocolate and Peanut Butter Pie. WOW, this was good. A hard chocolate pastry on the bottom with layers of airy light peanut butter mousse, chocolate mousse, and peanut nougat. I'm sure we'll return to try some other dishes on the menu, even if it's just so I can have another slice of Chocolate and Peanut Butter Pie.

Four of us enjoyed an outstanding lunch today at Chez Nous on Union St. in Schenectady! First time there for all of us but we are eager to come back to try more selections. And eat dinner here as well. There were so many interesting items, we needed time to finally put in our order. I had the Lobster Bisque with a fried inhouse made lobster ravioli garnish; it was amazing in presentation and flavor. Curly fries were crispy not greasey. We even enjoyed sharing two delicious desserts. Expertly prepared Food, friendly efficient service, and ambiance were five stars PLUS. https://www.newcheznous.com/ It is interesting to note that when we arrived a few minutes before restaurant opened for lunch, we chatted briefly with the Chef owner who was bringing in fresh herbs he had just cut from his herb garden. Check out my photos to see the food we ate with enthusiasm.

Wedge salad, lacking in presentation but tasted good

A friend and I experienced this place for the first time during restaurant week. I think it would be better when it's not a just promotional time. Starters were good, for the most part. I really liked the Irish Potato Soup. Normally it comes with bacon, which I don't eat, but not for the promotional event. My friend liked his shrimp starter but it came with dirty rice that was bland. Salads were good, bread was good. The sides were good. We each got chateaubriand. Veggies were done well, and the mashed potatoes were good. A bit dry, but the sauce for the meat made that a non issue. The chateaubriand wasn't great. I have never had it before, so maybe it's just not for me, but I felt like it was a lackluster main. I didn't dislike it, but I only ate half. My friend did like it and took my other half. Service was very friendly and they compensated for a small issue with the food with an appropriate recourse. We did have to wait a bit for someone to get to us, but they were also pretty busy. I liked that they had Wolf Hollow on tap. I appreciate the local rep, and it was a good beer. I also got an Old Fashion and it was fine. I don't totally love the space itself. I know this is not a good related thing, but the yellow walls in the main dining room was too much, the wall decor is kind of random, and there is a huge chest to store glassware etc on the side of the room that feels awkward. This is also a spot where you need to be comfy sitting very close to other patrons in a well lit environment, which isn't for everyone.

Filet of sole, ahi tuna, and green beans.

We had a mid week dinner, spur of the moment. The dinner special of filet of sole and ahi tuna was terrific! The service was very good and glass wine selections were also good. Interesting fact; there is a cash discount which needs to acknowledged before the dinner. We will be back !!

Spending a weekend away in the Lake George / Berkshires area with the hubby and wanted to find…read moresomewhere to try, stopped in after jumping on Yelp to find somewhere close that was cute with decent food. Decided to give a try. The place is a total vibe, dont let the outside and area fool you! It had been a long day by the time we got here, did the outlets all day long and I was coming down with a cold. Ordered a ton of apps, Crab rangoon dip is GOOOOOODDDD!!!!... Ordered Calamari that apparently I didnt get a pic of, but It was good also. I think we got wings, but I truly cant remember. I got the risotto, I didnt love it but the Shrimp were delish, it had a super strong after taste flavor that I didnt love but couldnt truly put my finger on, Hubby said his pasta was good, but just needed "something". Would def go back just not sure how often we'd be in the area. Drink menu was super extensive and they were great as well. Started to feel not well and literally had to take our food to go, the waitress was soo concerned and caring, it was great, and it was no fault of the food or theirs, I think it was just whatever cold I was coming down with that kicked my ass and I felt like I was going to pass out, sorry TMI... But the response was so nice and accommodating from the staff. Def worth a try, just be patient with parking, it was slightly chaotic, or that night we just happened to encounter all the people in the are who couldnt drive in tight spaces, LOL!

The wine by the glass list was limited and fifty percent was vegan. I ordered the Mosen German Reisling which is more sweet than I prefer but there were no other options. My guy ordered a brown beer on tap, i'm unsure the name. We started with appetizers crab rangoon dip with crispy delicious wonton chips. And the second mozzarella eggrolls. I would pass on the eggrolls im the future. The motz is advertised smoked but lacked a smoky flavor. The Harissa had the spice level simular to Heinz ketchup. My entree was a Cuban sandwich that did deliver some heat, well pressed with plenty of pickles. We would love to see a wider wine selection and a turn up on the spice and flavor for the appetizers.

The Hostess was SUPER friendly and she never stopped working - cleaning tables and checking with guests to be sure everything was satisfactory. The waiter, Gregg, was very attentive and friendly. He did a great job The food was terrific! I ordered Pasta Bolognese and it was absolutely the best I have ever had. Magnificent sauce. My wife ordered "street tacos" and they were great. stuffed with wonderful ingredients - including shrimp. This trip as a perfect experience and we shall return. (sorry the pasta photo is not great. It looked so good I ate quite a bit before I remembered to take a photo)

I've been to Innovo Kitchen in Latham several times over the years and I've enjoyed it every time. They have a unique menu that changes periodically, but I always find something that catches my eye. The interior has an industrial feel which I like, with a lot of exposed brick. The tables are made from old bowling lane wood, which is a really cool touch. When you walk in there is also a bowling pin displayed in a glass case. I remember there being a bowling alley somewhere in that plaza when I was a kid, so it seems likely the building has some history tied to that. The tables are also nice and large, which makes the dining experience more comfortable. Tonight I ordered the Monte Cristo burger which is described as battered Buckley's Bread sourdough, a 6 oz special grind burger, Taylor pork roll, Swiss, and Twin Leaf Farms maple aioli. It was quite tasty and I really enjoyed the hint of maple syrup flavor on the burger. The crinkle cut fries that came with it were also very good. Another person in our party ordered the White Chicken Parmesan, described as a crisp chicken cutlet topped with ricotta and garlic spinach and fresh mozzarella, with garlic parmesan cream and lumache pasta. They said it was delicious. Someone else had the Crispy Skin Salmon and enjoyed that as well. A child at our table ordered macaroni with red sauce. The portion was surprisingly large and they liked it, which is impressive because they are particularly finicky. For dessert we ordered something we've had here several times before, the peanut butter mud pie. It's basically ice cream in pie form with an Oreo cookie crust and chocolate fudge. It's very tasty and also a generous portion. At the end of your meal they also offer everyone at the table a tasty piece of gourmet chocolate. One thing that really stood out tonight was the attentiveness of the management. Two different managers stopped by our table at different times to check and make sure everything was good. I recognized one of them because I've seen him there before and he always seems to make a point of checking in with guests. The other person had seated us so I initially thought she was the hostess, but after she stopped by during the meal I asked if she was a manager and she confirmed that she was. I mentioned that I was impressed that two different managers had checked on us, and that every time I've dined there a manager has stopped by to make sure everything was good. I thanked her and told her it was appreciated. During the summer and fall they also have a very nice patio area for outdoor dining. On cooler nights they have heaters and a fireplace which makes it a great place to sit outside. I will definitely return here again in the future. 5 stars

I highly recommend ordering it. Also have to mention our server Frank who was lovely and very attentive.
