We shared the chopped corn salad, the shallot tart tartine and the calamarI The calamari was so light and the shallot tart tartine flaky and delightful. The chopped salad was a beautiful combination of flavors. I had the striped bass with white beans and fennel that reminded me of a restaurant in Sicily! Wow! We had a great experience at the Delaware! The ambiance is excellent. It's a moody vibe with forest wallpaper and hanging air plant planters with candles in them hung from the ceiling by string (I was impressed they have to turn each of the candles on every night!). The food and cocktails were delicious! We had a Nigroni and Blackberry Basil drink. The Nigroni was blended well, smoky and a good quality. The Blackberry Basil drink was also delicious, which says something as I'm a picky cocktail drinker! I ordered the bucatini which was flavorful with specialty mushrooms and whipped feta. The description slightly varied from what I received as I didn't see any of the nuts described but it was so good I'll overlook it. My husband had a buttery bass which he enjoyed. Our chocolate cake was rich and the perfect size for a sweet ending. Waiter was attentive and friendly. Overall highly recommend and thought the value was on par for our area. For some reason, a lot of my local Yelp searches didn't include The Delaware, which was just wrong. Now that I've been there for dinner, that's no longer a concern. This restaurant has a lot of things going for it which appeal to me. They do need to clean up their web information, and with that, the associated Yelp information. Both list the weeknight opening time as 5pm, and yet in different spots, they list a weekday happy hour starting at 4pm. Other snippets of conversation I overheard imply they have to make a few other menu updates. But as per my review, that didn't adversely affect my opinion of the place at all. We did, in fact, show up during the "happy hour period prior to 5pm," and we sat at the bar for drinks, for happy hour foods, and for our dinners. The happy hour menu is vague for cocktails... "well crafted cocktails" will be discounted, but you really have to ask which ones get the discount or not. We were content to order some of their regularly crafted cocktails. We were inundated with menus as well, one of which we got by mentioning it was our first visit there. That had two of immediate interest, the lobster and scallop crusted salmon, and the quail. I had never had quail, so of course I had to try it, and it was delicious (as was the salmon, which I also got to sample). I can't comment on table service, since we sat at the bar for the entire evening, but that was quite enjoyable... friendly service, made to feel welcome immediately, great conversation among staff and patrons. The Delaware has been one of our favorite spots since they opened a few years ago. Tonight, C. loved her Steak Tartare and the Rack of Lamb special. I had the Caesar Salad and the Striped Bass. The Bass was bland and overcooked. It was disappointing. Sadly, the service was horrendous. We waited an interminable amount of time for the appetizers to be delivered and an even longer time for the entrees. We decided against dessert because we assumed it would be another 20 or 30 minutes. Our waitstaff never came over to inform us of the delays and once we asked for the check, it was another 20 minutes. This awful service was unacceptable and we will likely not be returning, even though I have about $70. left on my gift card. The Manager did come over to ostensibly apologize for the horrendous service, but she was just plain rude. There are plenty of excellent restaurants in the area. A French dip and they forget the "hearty broth" called dip described on the menu. French dip, no dip! And it wasn't good. But the fries, you could break your teeth. Hard and burnt to a crisp. I picked The Delaware for my boyfriend's birthday dinner and I'm so glad I did. I made reservations online, which was really easy, and I liked how you could mention that you were celebrating a special occasion. When we walked in, the hostess asked whose birthday it was, which was really nice. I like the fact that their menu has both specialty entrees and more casual options like burgers and sandwiches. It helps ensure that everyone in your party will find something they like. To start, we ordered the flatbread special, which had prosciutto and mozzarella. The prosciutto was crispy and the Flatbread was like a delicious pizza. For our entrees, my boyfriend ordered thr Bahn Mi, which had pork, pickled vegetables, and a charred pineapple aioli. It came with fries too. He really liked it! I ordered the Seafood Oreganato, which was linguini with tons of littleneck clams and shrimp, and cherry tomatoes. I couldn't believe how much seafood was in it! It was absolutely delicious and I enjoyed the leftovers for lunch the next day. It was so good! The ambiance was really nice and it wasn't noisy at all despite there being a large party seated near us. Our server was friendly and helpful. The Delaware. How should I rate a restaurant that is incapable, after two visits, to serve its items on the menu to its visitors? Isn't that the job of a restaurant? Call me, when you get Summer 2024 orders in 2025! Supposedly it burned down - which explains the unfinished ceilings, holes in the floors and the creaky wood walls. I ate dinner at the bar! It was unfortunate, that the first apps that I ordered were "unavailable" - thats the reason I came: to sample the cooking! I suggest the kitchen make adjustments and increase orders; so that diners can actually order what they want. Non-available food is a big NO-NO. That is the line dividing pros and novices (who do not have the lobster, for 'The Delaware' lobster appetizers for example!). It should never happen. When I finally did get my app., I could tell just by its appearance, it sat wilting under hot lamps for 10 minutes, while bar backs were yucking shop! It tasted a mighty bland. It was over cooked and sloppy.. My saving grace was a dessert and a beer - from a Hudson Valley brewery. I chose it, because I am Yelp's Rebel Chef: and I know haute cuisine and the refined arts of drinks. I had to pry conversation from staff. At the management level: some girl stumbled around all night bragging about "how I do the books" and "this isn't my *real* f?$&ing job".. etc, a dull teen fantasy. This experience was maybe the most I've laughed in a long time. The hostess was nice about giving us a table that wasn't super tiny and by the door even though she tried to originally sit us there. Our waiter was newer but very sweet. We ordered a bunch of small plates to share we. We got the oysters, he wasn't sure about the brine level. We ordered the special app that was blue fin tuna bites. That were actually two large cakes. We got the edamame dumplings, the shrimp bruschetta and the pork belly and lobster spring rolls. We also got crème brule and some other dumplings. The restaurant was quiet and cozy. They were busy but it still had a warmth to it. Why did we laugh? There was a very unique plating for the app special. The waiter was embarrassed. A Disappointing Evening at The Delaware... The other night, my family and I--my wife, daughter, and her boyfriend--decided to try The Delaware. The ambiance was lovely. From the moment we sat down the tone was set by our server's opening line: "I apologize if your food arrives late, we have a party of sixteen, and the chef is very busy." Not exactly the warm welcome one expects from a restaurant with 4.3 score on Yelp. We started with a charcuterie board and fried calamari. When asked if the board would be sufficient for four, the waitress assured us it would be. Regrettably, it wasn't. As the photo shows, it was laughably small. The calamari fared no better--gritty and barely edible. Then came the entrees, in staggered fashion. My wife and daughter's boyfriend received theirs first, mine followed ten minutes later, and my daughter's arrived five minutes after mine. My Surf and Turf was sent back immediately--the steak was undercooked. The burger was raw and untouched. My wife, thankfully, enjoyed the few bites of her Bucatini, the lone bright spot of the meal. When my Surf and Turf returned, the steak was still undercooked, and the lobster tail was a mushy, flavorless mess. My daughter's Steak Diane was drowned in Dijon demi cream, making it impossible to tell how the steak was cooked. The sauce itself was unpleasant. I am not one to complain, and I was prepared to pay for the untouched entrees. But the manager, recognizing the disaster, apologized and only charged us for the drinks. That gesture spoke volumes. The food was simply unfit to serve and the manager was aware of this fact. Sadly, "The Delaware" missed the mark on nearly every front. We will not be returning. The atmosphere was great and our server was very kind. I have a gluten allergy and she made sure to check with the kitchen about what was safe for me to eat. We had the pork belly appetizer which was pretty good. We were very underwhelmed with our main dishes. My boyfriend got the prime rib and it was incredibly undercooked. We should have sent it back. By the time he picked at the bits that were cooked he was pretty grossed out and lost his appetite. I got the lobster tails. They were over cooked and pretty flavorless. The pricing of the food does not match up with the quality. We spent over $200 and were very disappointed. We were expecting high quality meals based on the pricing and the ambiance. The Delaware has come on the scene as an optimal date night spot. I love the combination of upscale entrees and casual options, which creates a "make your own date night" atmosphere. You could come here for a casual night and order some sandwiches or burgers, or you could go all out with expensive fish and steak entrees that give a fine dining type of date night. An atmosphere to match both of those options might seem hard to hit, but The Delaware does hit them both. It's a great venue with a varied atmosphere that is broken up by the different dining spaces created by the layout of the restaurant. It is a bit loud for a romantic date night, but it's great to break the silence of a potentially awkward first date. I have to caveat that my review might be a 3.5 rounded up to a 4. My experience was a bit rocky, but there were plenty of pluses too. I was here on a date and wanted a relaxed pace and they definitely obliged, I loved the pace of the meal. At no point were we rushed and the service was very good. I suck at names but our server was very friendly and hospitable. Excellent cocktail menu, maybe one of the more exciting ones I've seen recently. The only problem was that I couldn't try them all. The Knickerbocker, their version of an aviation, which is my favorite cocktail, was fantastic. I then tried the OB washed Negroni, which was also fantastic. There were about 5 other cocktails I would love to try. Very unique and inventive menu. To the food, we started with the chefs choice bread and the Pork Belly Steak. The bread was an average good loaf of warm bread with soft butter, definitely fit for a group, far too much bread for two, might be nice if there was a smaller option. The pork appetizer was hard to tell what it would be by the description. It was a strip of crispy pork belly and a cube of tender pork belly "burnt ends". It was smothered in a BBQ like sauce and was difficult to cut with our butter knives. I enjoyed it, but I don't think it was what we expected. For entrees, my date ordered the Halibut Piccata and I splurged and order the Beef Wellington. Unfortunately, neither met expectations. The halibut my date ordered was very over cooked. He was kind and just said he wasn't a fan, but I gave it a try and noticed it was very overcooked. I brought this to the server attention and this was met with excellent customer service. The mistake was more than made up for, it was rectified, a new plate was brought along with extra dishes complimentary of the chef that were not expected but more than appreciated. The new plate was brought out and the fish was satisfactory, but most was taken home at this point. Again, no hard rating as this was resolved, but overall it was a small damper on the evening. I had the Beef Wellington. Almost no restaurants offer this locally. At $68, I was very hesitant to order. I hadn't seen any reviews or posts about this dish either, but I really wanted to try it and my date insisted. The serving was huge, and served differently than expected. The filet was served perfectly rare as requested, however I found the pastry to be undercooked. Also, the presentation probably didn't help as it was split and the pastry was served face down in the sauces and mashed potato. The Wellington also advertised with a maitake and foie gras duxelles, and I just felt like the foie was used a buzz word, as I didn't taste it anywhere in the dish, and foie is one of my favorite foods. All in one bite, I appreciate the balance of flavors that the Wellington is aiming for, but the execution was lacking for me. In the bright side, the mashed potato and the bordelaise sauce served with this dish were spectacular. The sauce served with the fish was also very good, the chef has a talent with sauces. The chef sent out the Lobster Dumplings, an oyster palate cleanser and a dessert of our choice due to the mishap with the overcooked fish. These were all excellent perks and I am so grateful for the excellent customer service provided by the kitchen and staff. It is difficult to rate this experience, it was overall good thanks to great service, however execution was off on multiple dishes. Hoping things improve, and honestly I think I'll be back based on the cocktail menu alone. I think they deserve a second chance from me. read more

The Delaware Restaurant & Bar opened in November 2023 in the former The Kitchen Table/New World Bistro Bar building on Delaware Avenue, very close to the Spectrum Theater. The Delaware is owned and operated by the Daley Hospitality Group, which operates Old Daley Catering and The Snowman (ice cream stand) in Lansingburgh and other restaurants in Saratoga Springs, Schenectady, and Averill Park. My family used to frequent the Old Daley Inn back in the day for their prime rib and French dip sandwich. The Delaware uses local sources in their food and drinks including Delaware Supply, Emack & Bolio's, Rock Hill Bakehouse, Sycaway Creamery, Highland Hollows, Reliable Foods, O'Malley's Oven, and others. The space at The Delaware was redone very nicely, which offers sectioned dining areas and the full service bar area. The painted murals, the classic decor, and minimal lighting gives this place character of an old classic restaurant and bar in Albany. They offer an extensive drink menu of beer, wine, cocktails, non-alcoholic drinks, and mocktails from the bar. The food menu offers a variety of small plates, salads, oysters, sandwiches, pomme frites, pasta, and main entrees such as scallops, halibut, steak, duck, beef wellington, St. Louis ribs, Sri Lanka fish fry, pork tenderloin, vegan meatloaf, and more. The pricing is on the higher side. I stopped by The Delaware for dinner and headed for an open seat at the bar. The place wasn't too busy when I got here about 10 minutes after opening. The bartender brought over a glass of ice water and several menu sheets with dinner, drinks, and specials. I stuck to food on this visit. For a small plate, Fritto Misto ($21 plus tax) was plated with crispy breaded calamari rings & oysters, fennel, sprouts, celery, citrus aioli, avocado puree. This starter came out very fast after ordering. Next, the Midnight Cubano ($19 plus tax) has tender Mojo smoked pork, thin prosciutto de Parma, house pickles, dijonnaise, gruyere on a pressed French bread, very crisp on the outside. The side of golden fries were seasoned, hot and crisp. For dessert, the Warm Toffee Pudding ($10 plus tax) was a soft toffee cake square with salted caramel gelato, whipped cream, fresh blackberries & strawberries on the side. The check total was $54 with tax and before tip. Overall, my 3 course dinner was very enjoyable and delish and what I would expect from an Old Daley restaurant. The service here was spot on with my food being served promptly and my ice water topped off. The bartender also seemed knowledgeable about wine, giving wine samples, conversing with the customers sitting next to me who were there for red wine before being seated at their table. The selection of bottled beers and wines will cover all your tastes. I went with the Malbec. I started with the Crispy Goat Cheese and was blown away by the taste of the smoked beets. I have never had smoked beets and they were incredible. I rounded out the meal with a smash burger and fries. The burger was perfectly cooked and the flavors scrumptious. The fries were crispy and well salted. Unfortunately my eyes were bigger than my stomach and could only eat a few of the fries. Went here for a holiday meal with a friend. Ample parking in the back and a warm and cozy environment for dinner and drinks. Our service by Raymond was exceptional. We were never rushed and allowed to take our time with both the menu and chatting afterwards. The restaurant filled up so I highly recommend reservations. The reason it's four stars instead of five is the food was not quite what I expected for the prices. The Classic Caesar salad dressing tasted more like a vinaigrette than creamy and lacked any visual signs of cheese let alone the classic Parmesan cheese shavings. They did have nice white anchovies on top though! My French onion soup tasted very sweet which I thought was an interesting take on the classic dish. My friend had the St. Louis bbq ribs and she really enjoyed them. They had wonderful specials and a lot of interesting choices for gluten-free options which made my friend happy. We've been to this restaurant a number of times. We're used to the spot, since New World Bistro Bar was also a regular stop for us. One attraction at The Delaware was the gluten free options (my wife has a serious level of gluten intolerance). I'm prompted to write this review because we recently had a sad experience with gluten in a food item my wife consumed, which produced an unpleasant response. When we notified the restaurant about the matter (which was at least partially a fault of our own communication deficiency), their response could not have been more wonderful. It went way beyond being apologetic. It involved multiple contacts with management and ownership about things that could be done to prevent an outcome like ours from happening again. It feels very good to go to a place where the folks in charge so clearly and sincerely care about their customers. We've been back, and will continue to go back. So disappointed and sad This was my second visit to this new permutation of a restaurant in the same space. Originally it was New World Bistro. It was unusual, eclectic, fun. But unfortunately, it folded. There was at least one other attempt to run a restaurant there but it did not survive the pandemic. So The Delaware is the new company in the same space. Fully equipped, large parking, next to the newly revived art movie theater, an eclectic, original menus - what's not to like? Last night (Fri 13th - is that the problem?) I had a reservation for 8. I was informed that for a group this size we had to expect 1 1/2 to 2 hours for dinner. Our reservation was for 5 pm (when they open), and we informed staff that we needed to leave by 7 pm to get to a show by 7:30 pm. We were served by 3 different waiters, who were friendly and welcoming. Then things went downhill. Out of our 8 orders 3 were messed up. I was served a salad but when I tried it, turned it it had none of the ingredients from the menu (goat cheese, pancetta, golden beets) - it was a large serving of greens. I tried to call a server - no luck. So I went to the servers station, asked if this was the right dish. They discussed it for a while. Eventually a server said it was the wrong salad, and that they would bring mine with the main courses. That took a while, but at least I got what I had ordered - eventually. Another guest in our group asked what kind of oil was in the dish she wanted. The server left to find out but never returned. So that guest ended up ordering a different dish from another server. The third guest asked to have her sauce on the side. The dish was brought with the sauce mixed with the food. By 7 pm we hadn't had our bills settled yet. At 7:10 I asked to speak to the manager - privately, so as not to cause a scene. I expressed concern about us being late to theater (even though we arrived at the restaurant at 5). The manager David (he did not share his last name) said that checks would be there soon, and that, we would make the show (he had no idea where we were going, our parking, tkts etc but glibly dismissed my concern). I informed him of 3 orders having been wrong. He never apologized or offered any compensation, but said "we fixed them, didn't we?" He never made any attempt to smooth the situation but continued arguing while a server was working the cash register. Our bills had "suggested tips" printed on them from 20% to 25%. For an establishment, whose prices are "$50 to $100 per person" (from their web site), this kind of service and the attitude of management is absolutely unacceptable. At the end we were late to the play, but the theater held up the opening because we were such a large group. We had no time to search for parking, so one car was ticketed. All these I convinces and expenses were due directly due to The Delaware's delay in service. read more

The $78 filet and lobster tail for 2 was absolute garbage. Not only was it cold but had absolutely no flavor. I'm interested to know if they have spices in the back for their frozen tasting food. To top it off they only brought out one lobster tail and the MANAGER came out insistent that was the dish until I asked for the menu. This place doesn't get the buzz that it deserves. I don't usually write reviews. I think that most restaurants in Albany rise to a certain level and you can get used to above average fare. I have to say that I had one of the best meals I've had in the last 6-12 mos at the D last week. This chef can cook. He was serving Walleye as a special last week and it was memorable. Not an easy fish to prepare well and where do you get it fresh? Anyway, it was superb. Take Zack the bartenders advice on both food and drink. We had dinner here with a couple of friends. Service was impeccable, and the cocktails were expertly crafted. The green goddess salad was perfection! Everyone loved their salads and main courses, except me. The St. Louis ribs were v spicy, so if you're expecting barbecue style (as I was) this dish may not be for you. The noise level is high, as it has been in the previous incarnations. The prices are high, but if this means the wonderful staff are being paid a living wage, I'm all for it. read more
