Stopped by The Hollow Bar & Kitchen for an event and didn't get to stay too long, but overall it was good. The place has a really nice rustic atmosphere great vibe as soon as you walk in. I grabbed an Old Fashioned at the bar, and it was really good. I didn't get a chance to try the food, but from what I saw, it looked good. I would come back and check it out again.

We were in the mood for simple pub fair and found this place to have a good variety of lunch choices. Enjoyed a lunch with a colleague at the Hollow bar & Kitchen. Perusing the menu we chose sandwiches, the Reuben and the recommended brisket sandwich. I'm a big fan of Reuben. Though I did not order it, it fell short in many areas. To start, you get a lot of bread. You don't get much meat and barely any dressing. There is plenty of sauerkraut on it. It comes with your basic french fries and although french fries for the most part aren't very inspiring, these were on the low end of that scale. They were undercooked and soggy. The brisket sandwich also fell short. You do get a lot of meat and it does come on a big thick bun, but the beef wasn't very tender, very chewy, and the barbecue sauce was too tangy. You get a choice of sides with this sandwich as well, I went with the sweet potato fries. Those were very good.

the Hollow restaurant Went here for dinner on a Friday evening because our hotel had recommended it. Their dining room was full so we were seated at a high top table in the bar area. They weren't busy there and we had a nice waiter. We ordered the Beer Cheese burger. It was a messy burger but tasted pretty good. The paella was a big disappointment. It was definitely not anything like the Spanish paella, which I didn't really expected since it's at a bar restaurant, but there really wasn't much flavor to it. It was more of a seafood tomato stew with Spanish rice added. Or a plain tomato based jambalaya consistency. Not much seafood and there are 4 thin bread wedges that really didn't go with the dish. It was too wet to be a paella and too dry for the bread. Don't waste your money.

Excellent food. A few local beers. Eclectic staff + ambience. Mid-life crisis woman hangout. It is parts bar/dining/party/restaurant/kitchen. I had difficulty figuring out which was the most important element. They cater to winy clients who plop down at the bar, cry, shout and play with babies (on the bar counter, no less): my drinks took a while to get to my table. Kitchen makes tasty food and plates them nicely. Five stars for food taste. Review: 5

I feel like I have been missing out on The Hollow for too long. Recently, I took my coworkers there for dinner based on a friend's recommendation. They had options to accommodate the vegetarian and gluten-free members of our group. The interior had an industrial farmhouse vibe that was surprisingly appealing. Despite being busy at 8 pm, they had no trouble seating us. They offered beer flights, which two of my colleagues shared and enjoyed trying a variety of beers. One of us ordered the tirokafteri dip to share, and we ended up asking for more pita to finish it. The spicy feta dip was perfectly blended, and I may have to order it again soon. I opted for the kale Caesar salad with grilled chicken added and a side of truffle parm fries. The salad was exactly what I needed and expected. The fries were crispy with just the right amount of umami flavor. Next time, I would ask for the aioli on the side as it appeared a bit gloopy on top. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. I can't wait to go back soon!

Came here for lunch on a Friday afternoon during the busy basketball games at the MVP Arena, and I was so thankful that they took reservations. We were sat immediately when we got there, and the lunch menu had plenty of options, including more casual options such as burgers and sandwiches as well as a selection of entrees. Their craft beer selection and cocktail menus are also pretty impressive! For lunch, I opted for the Salmon Burger while my boyfriend ordered the Beer Cheese Burger, both with sweet potato fries. Mine was fantastic, and I loved the pineapple slaw on top. His burger was also delicious and cooked perfectly. The pretzel bun was also a nice touch. Overall, they have great food and drink options and a nice atmosphere, making it a wonderful choice if you're in Downtown Albany!

I had never been but had seen some of the pics of the hall and thought it looked OK. But being there was another story. As other reviewers have said, they do an amazing job making this space feel warm and inviting (as an old person I was thankful for the complementary ear-plugs). The staff were all super friendly and I was appreciative seeing they have security even for a low-key jam-band-friendly venue. The show itself was a lot of fun, there was plenty of room for the crowd of about 75-100 to relax, dance, sit and watch etc. The sound was really good, and the lights rivaled much fancier venues I've been to. As others have said, the drinks are a bit on the pricey side, but when you compare it to going to a show at say, SPAC these days it was actually a few bucks cheaper per-drink. We started the night at The Eleven, the bar attached to the venue which was also very nice. My girlfriend had one of their signature cocktails, the coffee based one (can't remember the name) and I tasted it and thought it was great. I was a bit disappointed by their whiskey selection, but they had the basics which worked fine. Overall, we had an amazing time and I will definitely be going back to check out more live music here.

On this particular night, they had the dance floor covered in chairs and tables, set up like a comedy club or a dinner show. I see on their website that they sometimes clear those tables to provide a generous dance floor space. The table set up is good for comedy or jazz, but many FM songs are made for dancing! Luckily there was plenty of room to dance on the right side of the room, but obviously along the wall there isn't the best sight or sound. I think it would have been better to put the tables in a U shape and provide more room for dancing, which would have really elevated the energy in the room. There are booths along the left, too, so TONS of seating and not much good dance space, but luckily this could be changed in the future. I never had to wait long for a drink and the bartenders didn't mind when I asked for refills of water. I think this space has a lot of potential and I hope to see more music or comedy there soon!

Now, it's a sight for sore eyes! Better sound system and LED lighting were among the upgrades. A little more seating. New seats and flooring. When you consider that the distinctive facility is about a half century old, the upgrades were overdue. The helpful ushers are not paid to be tour guides so I'm not sure how accurate their information was. Some ushers said the bathrooms were not renovated. The bathrooms I visited did have upgrades, but I cannot understand why the some of the original hardware including the old, chipped sanitary napkin receptacles were screwed back into the womens' bathrooms stalls. It seriously detracted from the overall appearance and seemed to be a bad penny pinching decision after so much money was spent. I can't tell you about the men's rooms. The men in our group of friends said they thought some work had been done. The Egg's unique shape was inspired by the half grapefruit that Gov. Rockefeller was eating during a planning meeting. In this day and age of large venues, it remains a more intimate setting. The Kitty Carlisle Hart theatre has a capacity of just under 1,000 seats and there's another smaller theater just below it. I was in the audience a few years ago when Pete Davidson did his stand-up act at the Egg. He complained about the small size of the venue. He added another show for same day just to make it worth his while. I came away offended by some of what he tried to pass off as humor. If performers like Davidson don't want to play the Egg again, I'm okay with that. It has great acoustics for fine artists of a whole different caliber. First off, we made reservations and had our own table but I don't think they were entirely necessary as we saw lots of people come and go without them. Dress is very relaxes, with some people coming from work for lunch in suits and others in torn up jeans and t-shirts. Getting here was odd. It is off of a hallway off of the concourse, and though there is a sign it isn't obvious and I was glad I came with friends who knew the way. Upon entering the elevator, there were two options: restaurant (floor 2) and bathrooms (floor 1). Yup, they are on separate floors. The elevator dumps you in the very middle of the restaurant which I considered awkward. Leaving to use the restroom involves waiting in the middle again for the elevator, and then returning via the same manner. The buffets were wooden boards that were set up on saw horses in the middle of the room with power cords to the heaters and heat lamps. It seemed a bit amateurish but I suppose since they only do the buffet once a week they have to keep it easy to set up and break down. Every Thursday they do an Italian buffet lunch (and I don't think they do any other regular meal service) which apparently has various items that rotate. Today it was: Appetizers: Caesar Salad; Chopped Garden Salad; Grilled Vegetable Salad; Frittata with Four Cheeses; Eggplant & Tomato Compote; Crusty Bread Main dishes: Penne Primavera with Oil and Garlic; Rigatoni Bolognese; Chicken Parmesan; Porchetta; Grilled Vegetable Medley Desserts: Assorted Italian Desserts & Pastries (They had about 6 different dessert options.) The food on average decent. It is all served buffet style so dishes may get dried, sauces will congeal, and vegetables will weep water. I thought the chicken parm. was decent, I enjoyed the rigatoni Bolognese, and considered the frittata a standout dish. I took what I thought was a cream puff for dessert but it was filled with chocolate chip cannoli filling instead (I think). The staff were pleasant and frequently refilled the buffet. However, they kept taking our plates but wanted us to keep our dirty silverware which we had to put on the table cloth. By the end of the meal service, that cloth must look pretty bad. Prices were fair, I think $13 a person. However, it just felt really awkward at times. It felt like a restaurant was being crammed into a space that didn't really work (and at one time this was a really nice restaurant so I have been told). While it has the luxury of boasting the only buffet at the Plaza, I don't think I would come back unless there was another special Office function.
