This is a very nice space, definitely a pleasant place to hang out. There's a large bar and open space seating, essentially within the bar. Menus are exclusively online. There was a "Notini" on the bar menu which I attempted to order and was told that despite it being on the menu, they don't have it. Likewise an Athletic NA beer I tried to order. They do have Heineken 0 which I consider worthless (doesn't taste anything like Heineken, or much of anything at all). I gave in and had a very nice Pinot Noir. My husband had an excellent Jack August bourbon (straight). We shared with our friends pork sticky buns and lobster mac and cheese. Actually, these were quite good The dinner entree menu is quite limited. Two of us had the salmon with quinoa. It was pretty good, though a bit dry and less tasty than described. Our other friend had a burger which he seemed to be satisfied with. My husband ordered steak, which was cooked perfectly but was frankly a lousy piece of meat. It was thin, dry, and chewy. We came to Wellington's years ago during albany restaurant week, it was great so I was itching to come back here. I should have checked the menu first but I assumed, based on my last experience, that there'd be plenty of delightful options. Well I was shocked to find not one dish on the dinner menu that called out to me! Small menus can usually still provide good variety but all they had were hunks of meat (steak, salmon, chicken breast) or burgers. Last time I had ravioli, so I thought there'd be at least one pasta or sandwich option on the menu. I took a look at their lunch menu - tons of variety. I wish they offered some of those options at dinner time. I ended up going with the burrata salad, it was good, but not really a full dinner meal. The food itself is well prepared and nicely presented. The place is looking pretty shabby, usually I really don't care about "aesthetics" and am all for some well loved furniture but the chairs were so worn out that it detracts from the classy vibe they seem to be trying to give off. A bit peculiar. Amazing hosts. An okay server. We sat at one of those window seats with the cushioned chairs and the tiny sticky tables. The drinks all stick to this table due to its finish, and it's too small and short to eat off of. They could use better tables. Wider and taller. The server was pleasant but offered no upsell or attempt to offer more and put our check on the table without asking if we wanted anything else nor did we ask for the bill. We were still eating. That's peculiar. We had wanted more but opted not to order further due to that. It tells us you want us to go. Earlier in July I visited Albany for a quick work trip and stayed in the Renaissance hotel that features Wellington's. I was very impressed with the food and the service! It was so convenient and delicious that I ate there several times during my stay. For breakfast, the house made pastrami was delicious. The next day I had a couple eggs with bacon and breakfast potatoes that also tasted great. For dinners, I tried both the steak options and the filet is the way to go. Truffled mashed potatoes are a must try! The desserts were also phenomenal, especially the pistachio ricotta layer cake that came with the biggest strawberry I've ever seen! Impeccable service from Brooklyn, Natasha, and Vince - everyone was friendly and efficient. The food came out hot, even when I ordered room service. If I had to find a negative I would say that the furniture was a little shabby and could use an update, they could also crank the AC up a lot higher. Although, I loved the amount of natural light from the wall of windows. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at the restaurant and I'm considering going back just so I can bring my husband so he can try the food! read more

We made a reservation on December 14, 2025. We received an email which we didn't see until today (two days before Valentines Day) "Sorry for the inconvenience but we are canceling your reservation. We have decided to make that night a first come first serve event" Try to get a reservation two days before Valentines Day with a major concert that night as well. Our Son and Daughter in law are coming into town and we made these plans to spend a beautiful evening together. I made a reservation for Valentine's Day almost 2 months ago and when I just called to make sure our reservation was all set I was told that they cancelled our reservation and that they had sent an email about (never recieved any correspondence). Wellington is located in downtown Albany near the capital attached to the Renaissance Hotel there's ample street parking during the day you have to pay to park because it's metered. The restaurants has a really nice ambience and I space it's either in the hotel or at Tasha hotel the service is OK it wasn't fabulous, but it was late in the evening. We ordered the charred brussels sprouts as an appetizer which was absolutely delicious as well as the chicken wings which was good as well. I also ordered the cod with shrimp which includes roasted trumpet mushroom, chorizo, asparagus, corn, with a lemon butter broth. The Riesling I ordered was really good it was very tasty is very crisp and one time very smoothly. I really enjoyed it. The cod didn't really have any flavor to me it just tasted kind of bland the shrimp was a bit dry the sauce with the vegetables in the chorizo it was very good it's very tasty had a lot of flavor and a lot of texture if not for the vegetables with the sauce in the chorizo the meal would've been absolutely horrible for me. The server said that dish was one of that was most ordered which is why I chose it. When the meal was over and the server came to pick up our dishes I was in the restroom when I came back he was picking up dishes and talking to my table and standing over by chair he spilt leftover food from one of the dishes al over the inside of my coat. He didn't even realize that I had to call him back to bring something to clean it he apologized but he did not clean up the area I had to clean by coat the best I could. He didn't offer anything ... no for money off of the meal, did not offer to clean my coat that was just very a very disappointing way to end the evening. My coworker and I come to this restaurant every August when we are in town for a work conference. We have visited both as guests of the Renaissance Hotel (where the restaurant is located), and as guests at other hotels in the area. The food is fantastic, especially for a hotel restaurant, and the decor is sleek/classy and modern. Andy is a great bartender - friendly and fun. Natasha is by far the best server during the breakfast hours -- in fact, during my recent 2022 visit I remembered her from our last in-person conference back in 2019! She is THAT friendly and attentive. My favorite dishes would be the omelettes for breakfast, the cheese board (holy moly, so good), and the salmon. Cocktails are also fab! read more

My husband and I stayed in the Renaissance for a few nights while my husband was in Albany, NY, on a work trip! We ate not only at Wellington's, but also ordered their IRD (in-room dining) one day as well. Let me say... I'm glad we only stayed for a few days/nights. Let me start with my room/IRD experience. Overall room was fairly clean and well-maintained. As far as my IRD, the lady who delivered my food to me was VERY rude!! I did not hear her knock the first time (I'm a little hard of hearing.. always have been since age 13), so she proceeded to BANG on my door until I got up. Fine, I understand being busy and it can be aggravating when someone doesn't answer their door... especially after I had called THEM for something- but when I had opened the door she then begun to throw me attitude and tell me how I was, "wasting her time" by taking too long to answer the door. I apologized and told her I wasn't trying to waste anyone's time, but talking to someone like that is unnecessary... I then asked for her name ( I do believe it was Joanne, I don't know if that is how it's spelled), took my food, and shut my door. That was enough interaction for me that day... the food she delivered was great though! I had a burger with fries, and it was delicious! For my IN DINING experience, my server was nice, but the food was a big let down... I ordered a nice steak (bloody), and when I received it, it was dry, flavorless, overdone, and not what I should have gotten for a $60 steak! I waited patiently to see my server, so I could get her attention. Once I did, she immediately took it back and had it remade... great, right?! Wrong.. I got another one, but this time it was BARLEY cooked! Truthfully, it felt like a funny joke because I had said it was dry and overdone. Come to find out it was the head chef who had sent me out the phenomenal remake! Good job! Anyways, I gave up and just said to waive any charges of a steak and get me a salad. Very, VERY disappointed in the food and then the HEAD CHEF'S ability to REMAKE the food... Do people not have to go to culinary school for a supposedly high-end restaurant anymore? read more

Almost a 5-Star Dining Experience Located in the Renaissance Albany Hotel, Wellington's offers "high-end American fare, engaging staff, mixology inspired beverage offerings. While we did not partake in their inspired mixology, we did sample their high-end fare and experience a serving who was so engaged he was distracted in the most important part of his job, ensuring our meal was what we expected. Wellington's website showcases a dining room with plush bench seating, swivel tulip chairs, and wooden tables with round-back dining chairs. We found a dining room filled with boxy, high-armed chairs with rickety adjustable tables and marble rounds with, again, boxy, high-armed chairs. Neither of the seating options offers a comfortable seating experience; I sat on the edge of my seat so my arms weren't boxed into the chair. From a comfort perspective, they should seriously consider replacing their tables and chairs. Our server was extremely engaging. He was pleasant, knowledgeable, and shared his thoughts on various dishes. My husband craved steak, so he asked about the fillet in comparison to the pork chop. Our server said the fillet was the better choice between the two dishes. My husband took his advice and ordered the fillet whereas I was eager to try their pork short rib. I found it odd that the menu stated a singular rib but ordered it despite my curiosity. We started our meal with a bruschetta appetizer topped with gold beet puree, goat cheese, a balsamic glaze, and toasted walnuts served over a fresh, and crips watercress salad. It was the star dish of our dinner. Some reviewers rave about the Wellington Caesar salad. We found it to have too much dressing which was heavy on the lemon and lacking in creaminess, and the croutons bordering on being too crunchy/stale. We will pass on the Caesar in our future visits. Our meal came and we were dismayed to see the kitchen staff delivered a pork short rib and a pork chop. It turns out it was our server's mistake in placing our order. Given that I already had my dish, and my husband was considering the pork chop, he opted to keep what we were told was 'the last pork chop in the house'. We ended up swapping dishes as my husband thought the pork rib was closer to the texture of the steak he didn't receive. The pork chop was glazed with a hoisin sauce, served over stir-fried rice, with what I believe to be a shaved Brussel sprout side salad. The pork chop was cooked well as was the rice. The side salad had a good flavor but was a bit limp. All-in-all, it was a solid dish worth trying. The pork short rib is a misnomer; it is a boneless pork roast. The dish offered an ample amount of perfectly cooked pork yet it needed a glaze, gravy, or chutney - something to bring it to life. Served over mashed potatoes and broccolini, and topped with three, three rings of delicata squash, the dish was good but there was nothing special about it. What Wellington's excels at is value. Dishes are large and the cost is reasonable. We did enjoy our dinner experience despite some of its shortcomings. And we will return but with the hope that we get what we order. read more

I have to say that Wellington's was by far one of the best restaurants I've ever been to, everything from the food to the cocktails to the service was fantastic. Our waiter was efficient, friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Our food came out fast for the most part and when a dessert was taking a while he was very communicative about it. The charred Brussels sprouts were a table favorite. The seared tuna I had was amazing, the wasabi sauce was so delicious, as well as the flourless chocolate cake. The vibe of the restaurant is fairly upscale, it has an old school feel but the food is very modern. For a hotel restaurant, this is very good for breakfast. The egg white scramble was really good and their home fries are really cubes fried potatoes, but they are very good and are crisped just right, not burnt and not mushy. Service was really, really friendly and accurate. Timing of the meal was also good. Excellent service team there. The pancakes were outrageously good. We think they make them with brown sugar, but not sure. They definitely cooked them with a little magic. Bacon was also cooked just right. Crispy enough, but not burnt. They also mixed in a chewier piece or too. It was salty, but there's no such thing as bacon that doesn't taste good. The omelets were very neat and folded perfectly. I wish I could do that. They were also very tasty and not overwhelmed by the cheese. All in all, it's a great choice for breakfast. read more

If I could put one star I would. I am currently in town with 5 work associates for an event at the Capital. Wellington's came highly recommended. We attempted to go to Wellington's and were turned away. We were told they were unable to accommodate 6 people but half of the restaurant is entirely empty. The hostess was unprofessional and appeared to be bothered from the time we walked in the door. We all asked if we could make a reservation and the hostess stated she could not guarantee. I would hope that the hostess does not represent all of Wellington's staff and service. Based off the additional reviews I've read there seems to be a consistent issue with the hostess. Unfortunately I will not be ever attempting to try this place again and will be telling all my Albany friends to boycott this establishment. read more

The place itself is very nice and has a lot of charm and character. The reason for my low rating is that they were so ill - prepared with staff after a large event. There was one guy behind the bar and a huge crowd waiting, as well as he was trying to make drinks for tables as well. Having bartended for many years I asked him if he wanted a hand - he was literally drowning. A manager came behind the bar and I thought - okay now he's got some help. She did NOTHING. The atmosphere and vibe are nice and perfect for meeting a friend for dinner and drinks. The seating is cool and comfy, especially if you are able to sit right by the floor to ceiling windows. Our server Brett was attentive and nice. We were served quickly. The chicken wings were fried hard like we like them and good! We ordered steak and rack of lamb as entrees and requested they both be cooked medium but unfortunately they were both cooked very well done. So I wouldn't recommend ordering those items. Not only because the chef doesn't know how how to properly cook them but the rack of lamb was literally the size of blow pop suckers. It wasn't worth it. See the pic. The resturant host should be fired. We had a bad expericense. I called the rest to reserve for six people......they told me to go to open table and reserve for 4 people and then call and tell them you have six people. So we did this. When we got to the resturant they said they did not have our reservation! The resturant host said they could not find room for us ( its a Monday night) The watier overheard this and jumpted in and said he could find us room. He moved a few rounds tables together and we were able to eat.. Do not go her with more then 4 people, they do not have that tables for it. I was a guest at the hotel over the weekend, and I went down to the restaurant. The food was atrocious.

My girlfriend made reservations for myself and two of our friends for dessert for my birthday. We came down to the bar earlier in the night to grab dinner and have a few drinks. Everything was very good. We came back later for our dessert reservations. Our waiter, Myles, came over twice to check on us in the 3 hours we were there. At this point, only one other table was occupied at the restaurant, so, not a busy night. Then at one point the manager came over to tell us she would be taking care of our table. After that we never saw her. Finally, we walked up to the front counter to order our dessert, only to be told the kitchen was then closed. Absolutely awful waitstaff. We had clearly indicated when we arrived we were interested in dessert, but we were the ones left deserted. Came here a few times over the weekend - we were staying at the Renaissance. We had dinner the night we arrived - the Brussel sprouts were MY JAM. We had breakfast there the next day which was great and the street view was quite pleasing. Our meals were great and I LOVED the sourdough toast. The bartender Nate deserves at least 6 stars! He was awesome. Attentive, made great recommendations, and was creative in making us drinks for what we were craving.
