    Brisket and 2 sides
    Hem B.

The multitude of vendors at Galleria 7 seems to be ever evolving. A recent Times Union poll named Dottie Lou's BBQ as one of the top BBQ places in the Capital District. That endorsement got me in the door. To go order - Brisket and 2 sides: crinkle fries and Mac & cheese. Current price, about $20. I've glanced over some of the reviews for this place. One mentioned price/quantity of meat ratio and found it lacking. At first glance, I might agree, but cows ain't cheap. Also, when setting a price for restaurant items, I try to remember 2 things: 1. How long was the preparation for the dish? 2. How many hands (hopefully gloved) have touched the meal to get it to the customer? The longer the prep or more hands to prep the product, the higher the price. Another review complained about the lackluster sides being offered. My experience was different. OK, I'll get off my soapbox. Back to the food. Brisket - how many customers actually make it at home? I'm guessing not many. There's something primal about brisket...meat, fire, smoke. If done well, it evokes a specific satisfaction that my knuckle dragging ancestors and I share. My eyes might have rolled up into the back of my head after the first bite. There were no witnesses so...maybe, maybe not. Enough said...other than be careful with the sauce (a vinegar mustard blend). Although bracingly acidic, it might overpower the meaty, umami (ooh, I used THAT word...no one really knows what it means), smoky, tender goodness of the meat. The sides were very good accompaniments to the brisket. Crinkle fries - I think they've used these type of fries because the outside can get an incredible crunch. That, paired with the softness and "carby-ness" of the inside; it's a standout. Mac & cheese - not your boxed brand, reheated. I think they're made with a little Pimento cheese, giving it a slight heat and added spice. It's a little grainy but I'll take it. That Times Union poll claiming Dottie Lou's as one of the best in region, I'd have to agree.

Fine, again the price per amount is ridiculous, and very few tomatoes. I'd pass.

First of all, this is expensive BBQ. It makes it tough for me to day I would choose it again bc there are other, closer BBQ spots that are excellent near me that are also a better deal. The standout was the corn dip and the brisket chili. Both were great and I'd get this again just to enjoy those options. We also tried the coleslaw (good but overpriced), potato salad (good but overpriced). The mac & cheese isn't worth it (bad; very bland and didn't even taste cheesy). No one in my family liked the mac and cheese. My husband had the baked beans with burnt ends. He liked them but said another place we go to has better beans (and my note, their container is twice the size). My kid and husband loved the banana pudding. Again, I wouldn't discourage anyone from going (especially if you have more discretionary income), the food is good. We'll probably pick up some favorites from our first try on a very occasional basis. But it's not going to usurp other local spots with great food and better value.

Trinity Platter was enough to feed two adults. Meat was tender and the staff was friendly. I do wish they had more sauce flavors though.

Dark meat chicken, pulled pork, potato salad and cole slaw

I'm pretty sure this is the first review in their new location at Galleria 7. I went there for dinner at 6pm on a Wednesday, and they were already out of several of their meats and sides. After trying some of what was available, I can see why they sell out. If you want to be sure to get what you want, consider going there for lunch. Also be patient, an order will take 10-12 minutes to prepare. From what was available, I selected the pulled pork and the dark meat chicken. Both were delicious, though the pulled pork was my favorite of the two. If you order the dark meat chicken, consider getting a knife from one of the other restaurants, because it is difficult to cut the meat off the bone with the knife you get (unless, of course, you're ok eating it with your fingers). The cole slaw isn't the creamy type, and it has just the right mix of sweet and sour. The potato salad is topped with some fried onion for crunch and texture, to make an already good dish more interesting. My order also included some pickled red onion and jalapeno peppers. Beverages are mostly soda and water out of a small cooler on the right. This is a great addition to Galleria 7, and it's going to be high up on my list of "What do I want to eat here today?"

Absolutely incredible barbecue. I seriously have no words for how good this was. The brisket was phenomenal, full of flavor, and cooked so that it was falling apart soft. The wings - we picked Alabama White Sauce - were quite good as well, crispy, and the sauce was delicious. I love crinkle fries but can never find ones cooked right- apparently the secret is beef tallow! I could have eaten these myself, but shared with the husband. Finally, the banana pudding. Oh my goodness! As good as ones I have had down South. And do you see the portion size? I cannot recommend this place enough. Do yourself a favor and stop by.

We had our 180-person wedding catered by Dotty Lou's BBQ a month ago and we cannot recommend them enough. Joe and his team make absolutely incredible food, were incredibly professional and helpful. They went above and beyond to understand our vision for our reception and ensure that our guests had a fabulous meal. So many of our wedding guests have raved to us about how much they loved the food- many of them saying that it was the best food they've ever had at a wedding. Highly, highly recommend Dotty Lou's for catering your next event and of course for dinner any night of the week.

Food was good the potato salad wasn't my favorite but perhaps if you ty it you might like it.

First visit was amazing! They were sold out of a few things which grew my anticipation to try those things even more. I settled for smoked wings with the sweat heat dry rub AND the Alabama white sauce. Delicious. Second visit....not so great. Got the smoked wings again because why not?! The ranch is house made but it was off-putting this time around and super thick like blue cheese. They were out of the smoked fried chicken sandwich but were preparing to prep more for the evening service. So they offered it us if we were willing to wait. Got it and it looked amazing! But it did not eat well. I hate to fight with any food and this was certainly a fight. First the breading fell completely off the chicken. It was 2 big pickles on the bottom of each half of the sandwich so the entire bottom was soggy. 4 pickles on the bottom of a fried sandwich is overkill. I'd also like to think that it should've sat in the fridge to set a bit more so that lovely breading would stay on, but hey! I just tossed the entire thing! Just not a fan of a messy meal especially when it's not functional. As a fellow culinarian, I wanted to share my critiques, but I didn't wanna be a fuss. Otherwise I love the crew at Dotty Lou's and their work! This Memphis girl is gonna try the bbq spot every time. The absolute best thing this visit were the fresh, hot and perfectly crunch crinkly fries. Anywho get to the food hall at Galleria 7, you'll be glad you did!

Recently went to Galleria 7 and was told I HAD to try Dotty Lou's, so to Dotty Lou's I went. The menu was pretty expansive which was impressive to me since it was within the food gallery setup. The prices were a bit steep compared to some other BBQ options in the area but I went with the meat combo anyways in hopes it would live up to the hype. I got the prime brisket as my meat (shoutout to the kind worker who gave me his favorite recs),and macaroni and cornbread as my side. All in all the food was yummy. The macaroni was creamy and flavorful, the meat was scrum, and the cornbread was just as good. The meat is served on texas toast with pickles and pickles onions on the side which is nice. My friend loveeeed the cornbread and said that was what took the cake for her (pun intended tehe). I think the mac and cheese was my favorite, but I'm always biased towards a yummy mac. My friend also got the one meat combo, both of us got a drink as well and it totaled out to $50 which I think is pretty steep. We did get a pretty good portion of food but maybe that's just me knowing there are alternatives that tasted just as good for less. My only other complaints is that the food came out a bit cold, which was odd since we didn't wait long for it and ate it there. I think I would happily give it a 4/5 if I got to experience it warmer, for now it gets a low 4 (7/10) for me.

Bbq from Dotty Lou's BBQ Galleria 7 Market. 2 meat combo with 2 sides. We tried the beef brisket and sliced pork belly with the baked beans and potato salad and a side order of fried green tomatoes. My drink is mango fruit tea from Kobe. Every single thing was so flavorful. The staff is super friendly and they have a cute little book share corner .

    Pulled Pork!

I don't yelp much, but I had to. We stopped in for dinner tonight... My two sons and I. (The younger guy got pizza... Don't get me started on his picky eating!) I had the pulled pork sandwich and my other son had the brisket sandwich, both with mac & cheese on the side. Really, really good. Great smoke. They gave me two different kinds of sauce on the side-one was a traditional sauce, sweet, tangy, and a little zip... The other one was a Carolina golden sauce a good amount of mustard. Both were delicious. Both sandwiches were tender and delicious. The gentleman behind the counter was very proud of the food coming out, and it was evident... I assume he was the owner. He should be proud... The food was excellent.

And while renovations are proceeding inside the building, we the customers still have the ability to enjoy some very good woodfired pizza. From their menu of over a dozen specialty 12 inch pizzas we decided to try a Sausage, Peppers & Onions ($13) and a Fuji Apple & Brie with honey butter thyme drizzle ($16). We figured the SP&O would allow a fair comparison to more typical pizzas while the FA&B would show their ability to improvise. The dough is good quality, tasty and has a nice chew. I might consider requesting future pizzas to be left in the oven just a little longer to get more char and blistering, but that's a very minor point. The sausage has a nice flavor and the peppers and onions are grilled/sautéed for a nice effect. The only downside for me on this pizza was that the peppers had an off flavor of being cooked over gas. The honey butter thyme drizzle obviously adds an additional sweetness to the thin sliced Fujis and it might be considered by some to be a dessert pizza. But the balance of sweetness is just right in my opinion and the drizzle creates a nice glaze as the pizza cools. I'm truly looking forward to when the "pause" will end and Classic Crust will be able to allow customers inside their non-mobile location.

Now, I wouldn't call the New York State Capital lawn cool digs, but seeing as it just a few blocks away and plenty of green grass, park benches, picnic tables, and other seating, how can one resist coming out here for a stroll and a great bite to eat? Not to mention, it is the only place in Albany where you can find 4-5 food trucks to choose from, which makes me feel sad, as that number is low compared to other progressive cities like, San Diego, San Francisco, Austin, Dallas, New York. It also upsets some people that the capitol gets special treatment for placement of food trucks, but let's save that for another day. Michele's looked good. I was simply craving a burger and fries. However, I've learned from my food trucking, that fries can be somewhat of a challenge. Either soggy, dried, or just not right. I hate suffering through that, so instead, I ordered the tots they have. Being a chemist by nature, I don't know what it is with tots, but you can hardly mess them up. They always come out crispy on outside and nice and hot inside. Michele's did not disappoint. I ordered my 0.3lb burger with cheese, lettuce, tomato, and onion. The film broke loose and this movie came to a screeching halt when I heard, "We are out of onions." "Ahhhhgg," I thought, as in my opinion a burger just isn't a burger without onions. Before I could complete my sigh of disbelief, the server said, "We can put some fried onions on it, if you want. Will take a little longer." I was ecstatic. Not because I got my onions, albeit in a different form, but the food truck guy did not have to offer this, but he did. Why? I don't know, ask him, but I can guess it is because they have that food truck service mentality of "Let's take care of our special customers." It did take a little longer but was worth it. The cook handed me a freshly cooked cheeseburger with fried onions and tater tots. He even warned me that the tots were piping hot just out of the fryer. Really nice touch. I will definitely be back and try their other menu items which look really good including the clam, even though I am not a big clam fan.
