I really wanted to like this place, especially after looking at all the 5 star reviews. But just like you don't judge a book by its cover, you don't judge a place by its stars. Here is why: I needed a hair cut, since my hair guy was out of town, I decided to go to Voss salon after finding them on yelp. I'm writing this review because I wish I would have read something like this before going in. Not trying to give a "bad" review just a helpful one. If you're looking for a place where you can get a 'chic' haircut, something that is updated and popular, you WON'T get it here! I even brought pictures to show exactly what I wanted and instead, I got the worst haircut of my life. You know that look like when you cut your own bangs? That's how I look and it didn't even get bangs!! It sucks because I wanted to look beautiful for my hubby since it's our anniversary, instead, I feel like my hair up for now is the only way to go. Bad hair doesn't NOT make a woman feel pretty. Now I will have to spend double the money to fix this bad haircut. I have to note, I bought the yelp deal, $30 for $75. She usually charges $65, I asked to I would tip accordingly. Personally, it's not worth it. She was even 40 minutes late for my appointment. That's a big No no in my book. This place has a lot of regulars, which is great but I think they need to get a little more updated if they want to attract a younger and more diverse clientele. The service is great, that's why I'm rating it 2 stars but I will definitely not be going back. To be honest, if it wasn't for the non-refundable deal that I had already purchased, I would have walked out of there as soon as I stepped in. I have a girl I normally see when I get color done, but I just needed a haircut right before my birthday trip so I decided to try a new place out with the help of Groupon. I called and was able to make a same day appointment for right after work. I came in around 6pm and was the only customer there. I felt bad coming in so late in the day but I never felt rushed the entire time. Ryan cut my hair. He was very friendly and chit chatted with me the entire time. He and Patricia (the owner) answered any questions I had and were very informative on the products they use without pressuring me to buy anything. My Groupon was for a haircut, deep condition and scalp massage for $27. They told me when I made the appointment that a blow-dry was an extra $10 which I decided to do. But Ryan ended up doing it for me at no charge! Very cool! He still took his time and gave great tips on how to style my hair type. It's crazy that I lived a few streets down from this place for 2 years and never noticed it! Anyone in the area who needs a haircut should definitely give this salon a try. read more

OK...I just HAVE to post this. I LOVE the cut Desiree gave me...love, love, LOVE it. My hair falls beautifully...like it's supposed to when you have a good haircut. I knew this girl knew what she was doing when she asked me how I want my ends cut...blunt? Yes, blunt please because I have fine hair. I washed my hair last night, let it air dry and put a tiny bit of product in it, and it looks great...and it's not easy to make my hair look good. I have lots of hair but it's baby fine and tangles like a you-know-what. It seems like I've had a million haircuts in my lifetime and only a handful have ever been "awesome". I've had my hair cut from celeb stylists to Supercuts. I have some great cuts by famous stylists and I've also gotten some great cuts at Supercuts. It's a crapshoot. I think I just found my fave haircutter in O.C...AND the price is reasonable! read more

This review is hugely overdue, because I've been coming here for probably around 6-8 years! Patricia is the best. I've probably had about everything done during that time: haircut/color, deep shampoos, facials, gel nails, eyebrows... the works. Patricia has always done such a great job with my hair. I've had a few funky-ish cuts over the years with angles and shorter hair in the back with longer pieces up front... plus I had some fun red streaks underneath my hair at one point... and I know I'm in good hands when it comes to haircuts that require some skill. It's a small and intimate salon where you get to know her doggie Bella whenever Patricia brings her in :) It's also very reasonably priced for the area it's in. When I went to Voss I did not know what to expect. I put the address in my GPS and headed South. When I hear a place is worth trying out it's time to check it out. Voss is a small salon across from Santa Monica Fish so you can have a yummy lunch right before or after. I heard they are going to to totally revamp this place and make the changes. I would never trust my hair to anyone else. EVER. When you meet Blair you feel like baked goods are baking in Grandma's oven (For me I can smell cinnamon and walnuts in the oven). He will listen to what you envision for yourself or just tell you what he thinks. I have referred several friends to him and they all agree Blair is the Best EVER! I am blonde, not without help but with the help of Blair and the magic foils he draped on my head. I had a haircut and a wonderful time. Patricia is the best! She worked with my busy schedule and even stayed to work on my hair beyond closing time. I walked in with chemically damaged hair and brassy roots. I asked for her professional advice in regards to what style I can achieve due to my damaged hair. She then suggested that I even out my hair to one layer (since I had different layers on my hair due to the chemical damage). I had one last 'long hair' fling, letting it grow to the point of looking like Fabio(sorry for the outdated reference but since I'm 52 he's the reference that comes to mind when thinking of a guy with long hair). She really is an artist and it was a pleasure and honor to have her tame my mane. The scalp massage was heavenly and service was very friendly. Well I used a Yelp deal for my visit and found myself having to pay even more out of pocket once there and services rendered. The deal was for a color, cut, deep condition/scalp massage and style. I got the cut (trim) and paid extra for the color because of the length (sure wish that was mentioned in the deal) -no deep condition -no scalp massage. I was able to make a same day appointment with Ryan who was very friendly, professional and meticulous with my consultation. I had gone in with overgrown rough hair that hadn't been cut in over a year. Ryan did a wonderful job with my short layers, being very careful not to cut too much length off. My hair felt soft and tame when he was done. He showed me the products he was using as he went along but did not pressure me into buy anything. Having grown tired of Supercuts I decided to try out Voss Salon...it is located on 17th Street across from Santa Monica Seafood. I went in on a Saturday afternoon and had an appointment to get my haircut and colored with Shayne. I showed him a couple of photos of the haircut I wanted. Due to the current condition of my hair (I colored myself at home) we discussed the best options for my hair. I have short hair and it is about 50% grey so the roots need to be covered sooner than most people. Voss offers "Mini Touch Up" color service which allows me to keep my color looking fresh until my next appointment. I will definately be using the "Mini Touch Up" service...if I had known this service was available I would not have been going to Ulta to buy color every 3-4 weeks. I love my hair. The cut is exactly what I wanted and the color AMAZING! Shayne and everyone at the salon went above and beyond what I had expected. read more
