Raised around Walnut since I was in elementary school, I've seen this place improve in the last decade. It's more of a Pavillions, now, versus a Vons. Always clean, I make a point of coming here for flowers for the mom. Cost-wise, not too bad. I find the groceries are a little fresher/cleaner. Sometimes, though, prices are a bit too high than what I'd expect. That's when Albertson's or Stater Bros comes into play. Plus, Walnut isn't so big, so you'll probably run into some of your old classmates during the holidays when everyone's home. read more

Absolutely horrible service everytime I visit this store. Especially the deli area. The employees are rude and clearly show they hate working there. I went there to pickup some items from the deli section on Sunday and there were two male employees talking about working out. Didn't pay attention that there were three clients waiting. One acknowledge and looked at us like we were interrupting his conversation. He was extremely rude to the lady in front of me. I was next and also was very rude and gave us attitude. I waited to see how he would treat the lady behind me and the same. After he helped us he went back to his friend to continue his conversation. To top it off, he over charged us. The casher was also rude and didn't even say thank you. I was there yesterday as well and the cashier was complaining about being tired. Never a good experience here. Corporate will definitely hear form me. We pay premium prices at Vons, we should at least get decent service. I will contact the store manager and let him know. read more

First off, I want to say that on a personal level it takes a lot to bother me... I live fairly close to this location, walking distance actually. I can honestly say I've never had a pleasant experience here in all the 6 years I've lived in this area. I really don't know what to think, but I've never seen an unhappier group of cashiers. Especially the regular ones- older white woman, and Hispanic woman( whom I think might be the manger?). If I could offer this business any advice I would say work on the customer service, and the energy your employees put out there- everyone has problems and no one has time to deal with rude cashiers and bad customer service. Excellent customer service in Meat/Seafood department. Chris was very helpful and cute haha, i really apperciated all the tips he gave me on how to cook meat because i had no idea! Does know what happened to Jesus??? He was my go to meat consoisseur!! Although Chris is just as good if not better. #sorryjesus! Also Andre from deli was very helpful! Moving upfront, service was unacceptable. As you read in most of these reviews, these employees are unhappy and work is not their number 1 priority. While in line all that was talked about was store gossip. Very unprofessional and inappropriate. These young teens really define this job negatively. To be honest, I hate grocery shopping. If I'm already in this mood, why have employees that enhance my negative experience when I'm shopping?! Tell me, Vons! Adding on to that, this place is in a nice and rich location, so I imagine everyone is in a pip pip cheerio mood... sorta like Disneyland. If not that extreme, somewhere in the ballpark! I came here the first time to find something specific and only one person was nice enough to help me, after the several people who were on the floor, sensed as if I was going to ask them for assistance and just ran away or went into hiding. Just to find one item took me 30 min!! Then I go to check out, and my cashier was named Cory. No eye contact, no greeting or some type of small talk, and all bad vibes... like he hated his job, I don't know. He didn't even bother telling me what my total was. Imagine if I was blind. How would I know what to pay if he doesn't even talk. Worst experience ever. I don't even think old people would appreciate that type of experience upon checkout. I came back the next day to return an item, and this time my cashier was Curtis. He's the same as Cory. Except, I witnessed with my own eyes how uncaring he was to this old woman before me with her groceries. Either these employees are underpaid or over worked, but it's part of customer service to be nice and friendly. Generally, I love Vons but I hate their prices. This is a good place to shop if you are always on the hunt for a variety of fresh, quality veggies and fruits. Compared to the other markets in the area (Stater Bros and Albertsons) this produce section is better. The prices can be good if you have coupons or if the items are on sale. This location is not my favorite Vons, though. It seems a bit dark and dumpy and could use a facelift. read more

When I was a kid, I used to ride my bike with my dad all the way here from my house near Grand almost every weekend. Lots of childhood memories. Moved away, and then didn't have any Vons nearby. Fast-foward to now, moved back to the area and have been coming to this location non-stop almost every week. The service here is ALWAYS outstanding, no matter which cashier in whichever department (deli, meat/seafood, bakery, and etc), they are always willing to help no matter what. They go far beyond what is expected every time. No wonder they are still going strong and the closer Albertsons has had to close. For their $5 Friday deals, if they run out of sandwiches, they'll make one right on the spot! If all their $5 whole roasted chickens are gone, they roast one up right away and let you know if that it'll take about 15-20 minutes. I definitely call that service! If they didn't care, they could just say "oh wells, it was only a limited offer. only to what is out there." They know how to please a customer. Their shelves are kept all nice and neat. If you ever have any questions as to where an item is, there is usually always someone on the floor. All of their departments have fresh items, I love their vegetables and fruit. Their meat and seafood section is great also! Love their bakery as well! Too many things to love about this place! Ever since Vons has started the Just4u program, I have had the chance to save lots of money and their weekly offers are very comparable as well! I do have to say though, their frozen fries (Alexia) and frozen breaded fish (Van de Kamp's) have had issues. It really is a freezer issue. I purchase those items with the past few months and upon eating them right after baking, there is this freezer smell and LOTS of ice particles inside. The breaded fish was so gross. It was basically soggy and had a bad fish odor. They need to fix that freezer. Even an employee at the cashier said that when their family purchased ice cream, they had issues. It saddens me that they haven't done anything to solve this issue. I even left my phone number so that the freezer manager can call me but nope, nothing. No calls yet and it's almost been a week. What can I not like about this place? It's walking distance from home, the staff is friendly, never waited in line for more than 5 minutes, open til midnight, and they always have what I need. I have waited in line for FIVE minutes once, but that's cuz I always go either super late or super early and there's not too many people staffed at those hours, so you gotta accept the fact that there will prob only be one checkstand open, and the person manning that stand will prob be doing multiple tasks. I arrived at the Vons door at 4:50 P.M. The advertised store hours for the day said that the store was open until 5pm. I was turned away as another customer 25 feet in front of me walked right into the store. Carlos, an employee of Vons told me, "The store has too many people, and I cannot let you in." I questioned why another customer was allowed entry ahead of me?" His response was "there are too many people in the store and that he could not allow anyone else inside." I requested to speak to a manager and was greeted by a young woman with a lot of ATTITUDE. She identified herself as "Megan." She explained that the store had too many people and would be closing in five minutes. I left and told their employee Carlos, "I will be in touch with your corporate office," and his response was "do what you have to do." The customer service or lack thereof is non-existent in this store. There is frequently no greeting of the customer, no eye-contact, no appreciation for customer choosing to shop at Vons. Conversations at the register should be directed to the customer and should not be about last night's party or the upcoming one. read more

I did get a fantastic deal on their cases of coke but i didn't get such a good deal on a sack of potatoes... like their 5LB bag of rusett potatoes were $2.00 their 10LB " " were $3.50 you can get a huge 10-15LB bag @ safeway for $1.00 since Albertson's near me has shut down, this is the closest american grocery store, meaning its Pretty clean, b/c let's face it.. you don't go to an asian grocery store for fresh soup or potato salad.. Their isles are faced nicely and their groceries look pretty clean, a bit dim lit inside..I came in for the amazing deal they were having; a 12-pk coke brand meaning SPRITE, BARQ'S RB, DR. PEPPER.. $2.47 +CRV who could beat that?? LIMIT 6 (per household) but just use 2 diff cards or phone #'s. -well wal-mart does do price match but still NO CROWDS here! and especially no rude people of wal-mart here either... It means that this place, along with most other Vons, is not only ABSURDLY overpriced but there are other experiences that make it feel like they are pissing on you while they rob you. Ok, I hate myself for paying $1.50 for one avocado (I know- the shortage per Dump's BS and Mexico's justified resistance) but for GOD SAKES don't put them on the bottom of the bag, thus piercing the flesh and crushing my life-savings-taking avocados! UGH! Additionally, no joke, there was once only ONE check stand open and the line had AT LEAST 15 people in it, all the way back to produce. Kitty litter = $1 + than anywhere else, with limited options and no "cheap" options (I mean, they shit in it! WTF!?) Cat Food Cans- NO inexpensive option ALL PRODUCE= outrageous prices Beef Liver (I hand make my dog food- its not for me!) OUTRAGEOUS! $4+ FOR what would cost me $2.20 elsewhere. I was pleasantly surprised at the convenience of their new order pick up feature. Makes life easier not having to wait at the grocery store for an hour + depending on their lines. I used the feature about 4 items. However my current time has been a nightmare. I received no contact (email, text, or app) on whether or not the order was completed. Then received a call the next morning as I was starting work,asking me if I was going to pick up my order. Again no confirmation email, the receipt shows up as normal on the app with the correct $ according to the amount of items bought. Nothing says out of stock. I show up after work today and only received about 1/2 of my order. And no physical receipt in the bag. Not enough to make a full meal of anything. I was still charged though for the full order. Now I'm waiting a refund request. Just go in, buy the groceries yourself . This feature is not dependable. read more

I called on a Monday to order a cake. The lady that took my call was very polite and helpful. Due to the pandemic I was hesitant they would take my order since A lot of places are closed due to COVID or are limiting the services they provide. I have been going to this Vons for years. I know is more expensive than Food 4 less but I go there because people are usually friendly. Today I walked up to the deli, was waiting for a young man to help me, he stood behind the register, 2 of his co workers walked up to him and he proceeded to ring them up. Then he called out to another co worker behind the counter, said something to her and proceeded to leave with his friends probably on their break. No big deal, however the lady was slicing meat, did acknowledged me and said I will be right with you, after a short while she walked away from the slicer and went to the back, I assumed to get something, but instead of taking care of (me the customer) she continue doing whatever she was doing previously. I don't understand why this location has so many negative reviews. I have been shopping here for years and have never had a bad experience. Prices are a bit higher than some of their competitors but I suppose you have to compare quality to quantity when doing your shopping. I recommend going on Fridays due to certain items being on sale that specific day. Also, partake in their rewards program. It definitely pays off! I walked into Vons and beelined to the produce section looking for certain things. As my mom was telling me that she was looking for fennel, an associate named Manny immediately let us know that he had some in the back, but they were only organic. He headed to the back and came back out with several fennel stalks. He was so nice and helpful! He didn't have to go out of his way from stocking to go grab things from the back for us. I've been living in Walnut for twenty some years. Shopping in Vons was never a pleasant experience all these years and it's getting worse. Went shopping today after work, only one worker in the seafood section. He was busy doing the clean up and wasn't happy to be interrupted to sell the fish to me. Cleaning should be done around 9 pm, dont know why he was busy doing that at 5:45 pm. The deli section had nobody there for quite some time. One shopper had to go the cashier to request help. One bag helper came to the deli section and look for the one who suppose to work there but could not find her. He end up start helping the customer. I gave Vons one star because only this young oriental man was willing to put in extra effort to help the customer. The lady who supposed to work in the deli section finally show up, but she was rude and with a long face. Lastly, the long wait at the check out line. The cashier should have signal the light to indicate certain problems which might hold up the line. But he didn't, taking his time using his phone to calculate the adjustment for one customer. Takes forever to finally paid. I normally do not write comments like this, but after reading so many negative reviews about this Vons, I really want to indicate the poor management in this location. read more

I am so upset. I was trying to beat the Father's Day Traffic a night early, I come in with the intent to buy balloons. However, Vons readily agreed to help me out without a problem! The quarter sheet cake was perfect, beautiful and was surprisingly inexpensive ($27)! i happened to stop by this location as this is the only late supermarket opened in my area. I was all excited and expected to come out with some alcohol. I totally understand the importance of following the policy. I told her I have an unexpired driver license and it was an address change cause my Id was holepunched. She said she could not take it and I totally understood. it was the attitude that she gave me. I hate as much as she does to have people behind me waiting. She made me feel like I can't even answer a simple question as "would you like a bag". was it because I am Chinese and she is being discriminated? I just feel very upset after leaving the store. It's a nice local supermarket in the city of Walnut. I like to shop here before or after my daughter goes to school, since they have almost everything that I need from A to Z. The price is especially cheap in the condition of buying multiple and relatively low prices with a Von's card. Meat is often fresh, produce is not always, and bakery has a variety, but the quality as not as good as Smart and Finals'. My favorite is the floral department; it always gives out the fresh scent and good feelings whenever we step inside the store from its side. A few employees are rude, but most are nice and helpful; they keep changing their staff with new cashiers and managers. Overall, it's peaceful and a convenient place to shop for the locals. read more

Call me weird but I love going grocery shopping here at 10-11pm (closes at midnight, 7 days a week). This location is large, clean, and relatively well-stocked at all times. Usually by this time the store is empty, peaceful, and actually more organized than during the most busy time of the day. The staff starts to bring out boxes and restock products before they close. A downside is that they sometimes turn off a few of the lights making it harder to see (against the walls, freezers, refrigerators, etc.). Our family lives 2 blocks away and we have been living in Walnut for 18 years. Logically this would be the market of choice simply because of the proximity to our house. Through the years we have seen workers come and go, and some remain. But no matter how many times we see these people, they act like they see us for the first them! The place is clean, decor is modern and updated, like all other Vons. While the workers aren't rude, their unfriendliness makes it hardy inviting to shop there. But that isn't really a deal breaker since after all, it is a place to buy milk and ice cream, not church! The deal breaker is no matter what time I go, there are always long, long, long lines at the only 2 checkouts they ever use. I would have to wait 15 - 20 minutes just to pay for one carton of milk. One time, my ice cream melted by the time I got to the car! Tonight, the line ends at the entrance near the RedBox kiosk. A less-than-friendly staff + long line/wait + high prices send me driving to Stater Brothers near Mt Sac or even Superior miles away for better service and better deals! read more

However, the entire shopping experience is often ruined by the very rude cashiers, thus the one star. They do not pay any attention to you as they scan your items. The cashier I had that last few times was talking to another cashier the whole time! I felt like I was interupting her for coming to her aisle! Geez.
