This is our neighborhood supermarket, and I go there every week. I'm surprised to see such a low rating. The store is clean, and they just finished renovating last year, and I like the idea of the aisle signs with the street names in Walnut. The aisles are wide enough and easy to navigate. It's always busy, but they have a few self-checkouts available and the staff were also friendly. I can find everything I need there. I also tried their pharmacy to get a flu shot, and the service was quick and friendly. (The Stater Bros is already gone, we cannot lose Vons.) read more

Don't ever order a cake from this place! I placed an order with the bakery for a 7 am pickup on Saturday morning. I had an event at 8 am. I get to the bakery department and the lady looks at me like I'm crazy for telling her that I was there to pick up a cake. She checks the fridge and tells me, "we don't have your order. It wasn't done. You can come back at 8. That's when the other girl comes in" So I tell, "Absolutely not. I have an event at 8. I ordered the cake for a 7 am pickup." She responds, "Ok I'll make it now. it will be about 15 minutes". About 5 minutes later, I see her waving at another clerk. Clerk #2 comes up to me and says, "So we're out of Raspberry. Can you pick another flavor?" I tell her, "No. I'm pissed. I ordered the cake for 7 am and I ordered Raspberry. I was told this was a confirmed order." She says, "OK". I ended up cancelling my $100 dollar order due to incompetence. read more

The "Wild About Sprouts" broccoli sprouts always have mold at the bottom. They're not just fuzzy roots, it's blue mold. Customer service is great about it though and will return/exchange them. read more

If you need assistance from the meat department make sure you ring the bell. Because when the employees are two feet away and see you with the corner of their eye they will not acknowledge you especially if it's 6pm during the week when ppl are coming home from work and need to pick up something for dinner. A total of five customers were ignored within a ten minute span. I spoke to Vanessa apparently she is a supervisor/manager and stated to me the employee has been spoken to about his attitude earlier that day. advice: maybe the employee and Vanessa can go visit Stater Bros or Sprouts to see how they run their meat department and how they provide customer service. read more

Immediately need to fire Cashier Alana, super rude smacking her teeth chewing gum. I had a coinstar ticket ready to scan but no groceries, a lady with groceries put her items on the belt so I already knew to immediately let the cashier know that those items weren't mine. Well when I did so she gave me a dirty look, handed me the money in a careless way. I don't always come to Vons, except for sometimes when I'm in the area near one. This location is older, but is a classic looking and clean location. When rating a store, I compare quality and affordability, the quality of the bakery, produce, deli, meat department, if they have a fresh sushi area or even a Starbucks (but not required). The real decider is having good customer service. Today, the deli guy was meh. *A great soundtrack is also good. Have you ever caught yourself snapping your fingers, dancing or singing along to the store loudspeaker because they are playing a banger from the 80s. This is by far the worst Vons I've ever shopped at. It's such a disappointment, especially since Stater Bros down the street closed, now this is the only nearby option. The store is consistently dirty, the produce is often old or rotting, and I've even come across expired products (I once had to return a bag of rice). The overall atmosphere doesn't feel like a typical Vons at all. On top of that, the guy with the beard at the meat counter is extremely unprofessional. Deli area continues to be understaffed in the evenings. Been there more than once where groups of us wait for assistance and have been ignored amongst the sound of cleaning. Checkout process has been staffed by people consistently visibly irritated with customers and their job. Unfortunately this has spilled over into customer service. Unfriendly. Sending people to the back of long lines when technical issues occur on their own technology and applications. (Applications which do not work consistently and sometimes not at all.) They reduced their hours which has heavy impact with the recent departure or Stater Bros from the area. Went for the curbside pickup because of health reasons. First few times was great, but then bad things startd to happen. Started getting shorted on items, old chicken from the deli, outdated or close to end date of meat, dented cans like they dont even care, freezer burned ice cream Then had the nerve to say we wont be getting any refunds from now on after we called them about the bad food. What a way to run a business. If they were not the closest market and the only market close by, we would not shop her any more. Just got back from this so called supermarket and went in to buy grapes. They looked like left overs from a rainstorm. Went over to the ice cream isle and the Dreyer's on special were all soft and melting plus very little inventory. And they suppose to be a union store. read more

I Dropped by to grocery shop locally here at Vons, Walnut as a switch off to Stater Brother's Walnut. What a change in grocery store layout. It must be because I'm still more used to Stater Brother's layout than Vons because I had a tad bit of a hard time locating items I needed. Vons carried some different brands than those of Stater Brothers in terms of milk and eggs that I noticed while I was browsing these sections. Service was fast at the cashier front, and just like Walmart, they also provided self check out lanes in case you don't want to wait around. Ladies at self check are so bad. I asked them about an item, they wanted me to read the details myself and walked away.

I also had an experience with terrible service as a senior being forced to use self-checkout which I always decline and ask for a cashier since I have a bad back and torn rotator tear. I can do some very light lifting but cannot bend. I shopped in person today because I had no choice. I had a pharmacy pickup and decided to just get some essentials. I went to pay and all checkout lanes were closed with no lights on. The self-serve was open and the one employee with long brown hair was just standing around not talking or helping anyone. So I pushed my cart to her and asked, "There is ONLY self-checkout?" to which she says...YES. That's it. So I said, "I have no choice, I am stunned?" she again said, "Yes, there's a station right here". Then she walks completely away leaving me with no choice and no way to get bags. I always purchase bags but none are kept at self-serve. I always see helpers at all other grocery stores that offer a self-service option. I did not know people were being FORCED at Vons to do this. Does Vons care about the senior population that shop in their stores? This Walnut location does everything wrong now. I've lived in this town over 40 years, what a terrible thing to lose, a store with products I like. I'll never walk in this store again and I am moving my subscription services. read more

AVOID THE DELI! We are so disgusted. You are likely to get some sort of bacteria here, i.e., salmonella, staph, etc. The Caucasian (?) lady that was working on 3/19/24 at 5:30pm is THE most unsanitary and rude human being ever encountered. We stopped by the deli to get some fresh slices of ham, but no one was working. (There were no customers at any time when we were here.) We noticed a pile of leftover meats sitting in the slicer and a slab of ham sitting next to the slicer with blood spots around the plastic bag and blood also pooling in the back of the bag (can't really see as clearly in the photo). We walked back to the deli later and saw ppl finally working, so we asked for some ham. When the lady finished slicing the ham, she grabbed a random USED bag off the counter. She didn't even pretend to grab a new bag. The bag had some drops of blood in it, and when questioned about that, she said it's from the ham and "it's normal" for ham to have blood in it like that. Now, I'm no expert, but I've purchased ham before. I've never seen blood in the packaging of any ham. When we tried to tell the assistant store manager of our concerns (a tall Caucasian male), he was quick to dismiss how unsanitary their deli was and changed the subject. Been going to this store for over 30 years. Customer service is terrible. Staff in deli are rude items are not available. No made to order deli sandwiches or ready to eat items are available. One employee made ignored me for over 7 minutes, said I can't help you because I am to busy with another order. Who wants to hear that they are not as important than another customer. This store is going to lose customers. Management needs to get their act together. People also use the pharmacy ans shop for convince. I am looking for new pharmacy. I love Vons and I am a loyal customer . However Vons needs to fix a continuing problem that I have noticed . It is some of their sullen , indifferent looking cashiers in their checkout stand, especially one who worked in the front end of the store. This was my experience on 11/1/25 at 11:41 am. At the check out was Lourdes who's often rude. I had 3 items two of which were from the discount bins while the 3rd one was a store markdown sale item (Butternut sq soup Sale price $5.00). She rang the items and I asked is any items on sale. She was gruff and said no!I The bill came to appx $17.00. I mentioned that the cookies were on sale and she adjusted the price and gave me a new price. I then told her that the bread from the bin was on sale . She looked irritated and readjusted the price. By this time I told her that she could do a better job. She snapped back with some rude comment. By this time i noticed that the 3rd item, soup , was on sale for $5.00 but she charged me $6.99. I did not wait to bring this to her notice because of her hostile nature. While leaving , I told her that if this happens again with her, I was going to report to the Manager. This is my go-to place to grocery shop when I am in Walnut, Covina, Diamond Barr, CA. Nothing special, but they have the basics. I gave them 4 stars for appearance and cleanliness, but marked off one because I brought about $1600 in unrolled coins to exchange for cash in coinstar. I hit the max limit on the machine, and sent my sister to get the cash and I would start on the next load of coins. She ran back to me and warned me to stop immediately, that the store didn't know if they could cover it. Oh no! What do I do with the voucher, how do I claim it since the coins were in this coinstar machine at this store. The store scrambled around for 30 minutes. One person was trying to find about $1,000 to give me for the voucher, 1 person was fiddling with the machine to find out how to stop it from taking any more coins for the day. And one person told me, once they confirmed they had enough cash, to go through the line to get paid just like everyone else. Okay, that sounds fair. Went through the line and the cashier said they didn't have enough money and put me aside while the manager continued to look for enough cash. Finally they found it and I had to wait for a cashier to free up, after already waiting in line, and 30 minutes to see if they could honor it, panic calling coinstar customer service, and waiting on hold. I finally got paid. We ended up having to go to Stater brothers further North in Walnut (my sister called them first to make sure they had enough to cover maybe another $1,000, and they said they did). I marked off one star for wasting my time in the store. Would think they would be more prepared, or maybe I am unreasonable as I think they did the best they could and after all, they were able to cover our $1,000 or so run on coinstar. read more

Went around town to find a small basic white cake for my baby's cake smash session. Found this 5 inch birthday cake in their bakery department. It was a basic white cake with confetti sprinkles. I scraped off all the sprinkles and most of the fronsting to transform it into a semi naked cake. Added fresh flowers and a cake topper and Viola! The best part is, this cake only cost me $8! I can't believe how easy it was to make a trendy cake out of a store bought cake. We tried the cake after the photoshoot, the cake itself is not good at all.. too dried and overly sweet. I needed to pick up a few things for dinner and Vons was the closest one on the way home. It's a decent size Vons, the aisles are very neat and organized. Things are very easy to locate. They have Pharmacy department in the of the back where you can also pick up your prescription meds. I was able to the find the things I need overt quickly. And the Cashier checked me out. Stop by to pick up dog food for my little pupper. The local supermarket that I always go to you for anything I might need, not in bulk otherwise I would go to Costco. That being said I was able to find everything I needed there were social distancing and mask wearing so I felt safer. Staff are super helpful and I use the self check out area. read more

This review is to address the lack of service at the bakery department. I've ordered several cakes here for multiple occasions. You really have to go around searching for someone willing to help you. They always seem to be out of something such as toppings for cakes or whipped frosting. My favorite is the vanilla cake with fresh strawberries and real whipped cream frosting. read more

If I can give the Deli department a negative for my honest rating experience i definitely would!! This isn't the first time this has happened to me so I honestly WAS NOT SURPRISED. I ordered their 50 piece fried chicken box on December 11. I made it over the Phone order. Let them know that I wanted it ready by Friday, December 14 and was going to pick it up at 6 PM. The person I spoke to over the phone didn't bother to give me his name and proceeded to tell me that the order was going to be ready for pick up on Friday at 6 PM. When Friday came along I gave them a call to give them a heads up that I was on my way for my pick up. This time I actually got someone's name and his name was John. Once I got to the store for my pick up, I told the person who was at the Deli that I was there for my 50pc fried chicken box I had made a phone order for on Wednesday. He asked for the name on the order, went to "check" came back and said "did you have someone else pick it up?" I looked at him and I already knew where this was going! Why? Well because like I said it isn't the first time this has happened to me. I responded aggravated at this point because I had a friends-mas to attended and that was part of the main dish "Sir why would I come all the way over here if I had it picked up ? Please explain that to me." I understand it wasn't his fault but this happened 2x already how does one remain calm. The 1st time it happened was because I made it an online order they told me the first time next time make it a phone order. So what did I do I made it a phone order and it still happened!!!! The guy at the deli didn't know what to tell me. I explained that I called and spoke to some guy named John and told him I was in my way for my order and he confirmed my order was there and now I come to the store and my order is completely gone and no one wrote the pick up order down. So what was it ? Was it never written down or was it there ? The guy at the Deli took it up to the manager and he was told there was nothing to do for me because it wasn't made. So they couldn't do much. So I then told the worker "so you're telling me that no one wrote down that there was a 50pc order to be picked up today?" He responded and said "no" then I said "so why did John tell me it was here? " he looked so confused and said "like I said ma'am there's nothing we can do." I looked at him and just nodded my head because I CANNOT BELIEVE HOW UNORGANIZED this Deli place is. So management I hope you see this review BUY YOUR DELI STATION A NOTE PAD FOR ORDERS!! The customer service here has always been really great but there's been many times where the item I am looking for is out of stock. I've also noticed a lot of disorganization with the shelves. I have also experienced issues with the lines getting pretty long. I'm not sure if it's a staffing shortage but compared to another location, this one typically has longer lines when I go. read more

They stood there seeing we needed help and instead of walking over they asked what's the problem. That was the first, and again we needed help so the one lady who helped us the first time decided to send her friend and just stand there and stare. This supermarket has a lot of great stuff, from food and beverages, dairy products, even pharmacies. They also have some ready to eat foods that have a good price but keeps the quality. Unfortunately, the service is the critical point to write about. I was waiting for the chicken station, and there was a super long line everytime I tried to buy it. It turned out that there was shortage of staff at that station and all of us had to wait for 25 minutes even when people want to buy it for lunch! That was a ridiculous thing to do, to waste your time just for a few pieces of chicken. I won't come back for the wait, but I will still buy the other ready to eat stuff here. read more
