Love that this big chain grocery store has a small town feel. The employees are extremely friendly and actually seem like they enjoy their job. Produce is always stalked up and fresh. Came in at 11p on a Saturday night. Vons was doing some re-stocking and had some supplies blocking one aisle. The older (solo) cashier was quite slow, and there was a sizable line waiting for her pace. It seemed more appropriate for a country store on a Sunday....in 1853. There were at least 8 people in line...and some only had 1-2 items. Several people mentioned that they should open a second register....I mean, it's Saturday night. People have places they're trying to go or better things to do than stand in line. I don't think I've waited that long for a store cashier since the 90s. There's just way too much competition for Vons to allow customers to wait that long on a Saturday night, or ever. I talked to one of the employees there and although he mentioned that she was the only working cashier, he later helped get a second cashier going. At least, I'm giving him that credit. ;) The second cashier was quick and had a great attitude. I'll change my rating based on more experiences, but right now a two-star rating is perfectly appropriate. read more

Their store always seems 5 months behind on new products being offered. New flavor of that drink you like just came out? It will take forever for them to stock it here. Also, their meat department could use some serious work. We like to stop by on sundays to get food for the week, and by then all the meat is grey and/or going to expire within the next two days. We commonly have to travel to Costco or Sprouts in order to get fresh meat. read more

Worst pharmacy in the world!!! Been coming for 20 years and finally I'm done! 90% of the time I wait 20 min in line just to be told they are OUT of what I need to pick up. Nothing for me to say much about this location cause I sat in the car while hubby went in to pick up a few things. We stopped by Christmas Eve before heading to my bro's pad. He wanted us to pick up a fresh whole chicken. That seems easy enough, NOT. Hubby calls me on cell phone to tell me that he asked the butcher if they had anymore whole chicken and he said nope, we ran out. How do you run out of freakin, chicken! You're a supermarket! Good thinking on hubby's part. He ended up buying a package of fresh chicken thighs instead. Good looking out Babe. Dinner was a success. Dear Management, please pay attention to your inventory and order accordingly especially when Valencia is a smaller town and an inconvenience to be driving around town for a whole fresh chicken. The pharmacy is horrible! They never have any of the prescriptions in stock. Several times my kids were ordered antibiotics for infections and each time I went they said they didn't have it and would have to order it for the next day. No phone call to let me know. They never tried to send to some place else that would have it in stock. The next day I went back at 11 and was informed they don't get shipments in till 3 pm. All this time my kid was sick. The last time happened last week and they said they wouldn't have it in. I asked why they don't call me ahead of time before I went in and she told me they are understaffed. Nobody seems to care there. I'm finding another pharmacy that keeps antibiotics in stock so my kids don't suffer. read more

I have never written a review of a grocery store and never thought I would have to. They are a staple of life and I always thought that most would be the same and have a high standard for quality, especially Vons. Not this particular store. I have been burned by spoiled food and incorrect prices one too many times. Not only do you get the shrug from the managers and the artificial acknowledgment of your complaint (i.e. spoiled produce, sale tags not reflected at register, dirty bathrooms) but corporate doesn't seem to care either. There was a time when I thought Vons did a great job at customer service and food quality but this particular store has proven that even the best companies can get complacent and forget to give attention to hurting stores. I can say it with confidence they have spoiled produce, poor management, incorrect register prices and dirty restrooms. My recent experience was on Friday 3/22/2013 around 6pm. I spent over $118 on food. When I went into the mens restroom I noticed there was toilet paper on the floor near the stalls and the trash can was full of paper towels. When I was getting ready to dry my hands, I realized they were out of paper towels in the dispenser. I looked at their restroom log on the back of the entry door and it had not been logged or initialed for cleaning since Tuesday 3/19/2013. I notified the manager (older woman with long jet black hair) that the restroom was out of paper towels and needed some "love." She acknowledged. An hour later as I left, I went in to look - still no paper towels and the restroom was still a mess with the TP still on the floor. In addition, when I got home, I noticed the tomato pack we bought was spoiled on the inside and had mold growing. I would have bought the tomatoes a la carte but their produce was looking nasty and the bagged tomatoes looked better. To sum up my many visits there: Spoiled produce (tomatoes, potatoes), sale prices not reflected at register, and staff that lack any real sense of pride or competence. I really wish corporate would get some new management in there, including the district manager because apparently he/she isn't doing their job with watching over the store. I expect better Vons. You are making WalMart look good. read more

My boyfriend and I stopped by here on the way back to NorCal. It's in a very nice plaza, large parking lot, and it's a place to feel safe at since the place is lit up very brightly. I believe it's a well-kept store. Everything was organized, nothing on the floor. We literally just came in here to buy 2 water bottles and that was it. If it weren't for stopping by here, we probably would've suffered from dehydration. :D read more

The pharmacists here ignore you. You stand and wait for them to decide when they want to help you. The only reason I go there is because it is close to home. On the plus side, when they do get to you they are pleasant and cordial. read more

This is for the checkers -- like another reviewer observed they seem to be all middle-aged to older ladies who are surly, sometimes openly rude and clearly would rather not be working at all or certainly not there! I'm certainly not an ageist, good and poor quality employees come in all ages and genders, but the store here at Stevenson Ranch and the one on Lyons in Newhall not too far away seem like an interchaneable army of cranky women who've had a bad day and resent your saving money using the store membership card the store itself promotes -- where you download virtual "coupons" and if you combine them with sales you can save a lot. In every other Vons I've been to from Palisades and Malibu to West Hollywood and Westwood, IF the checkers comment at all it's to say "you did good!" or just tell you how much you saved (a story policy I find odd -- how does the person behind you who might be paying full price feel about that? Is it an incentive to become a "member" or just feel resentful?). But THESE women seem to resent it a lot and openly embarrass you if there is a pricing error which as others have observed, seems to be pretty frequent. ONE older lady in her sixties, when I questioned an obvious error, yelled out: "No, that can't be right! You got so many groceries for so little money, that can't be right!" Others tell me the obligatory savings in angry tones, like I took money from their pocket -- or challenge me in a tone that makes it sound like I'm enjoying this, holding up the line to be publicly embarrassed while they make it sound like I'm lying. They have been loud, shouting across the store for a manager about a problem order -- complained about having to re-ring items several times a day because of computer error as if that's an excuse. Maybe some don't know how their own incentive program works and think anyone who figures out how to benefit from it has to be publicly shamed not to do it again? Some make me feel like a schoolkid and they're the surly schoolmarms I have to charm. And I"m no kid. The TONE is what is so wrong here -- no apologies when they make a mistake but opposite. I learned from another store that company policy is to give the customer the item for free if they ring it up wrong -- here, they might just bite your head off. SAME THING ON LYONS AVE so I have wondered why this is the main demographic and why they are so surly -- are the stores on the verge of closing with them out of a job? I hear the Bouquet Canyon one closed recently. OR do they just resent having to work and take it out on the customers? If that's the case they're making some like me go out of my way to avoid these stores even though it is extremely inconvenient. They are undermining the company's incentive programs. The Company Corporate had better take note of Santa Clarita! Ralph's in the same marketplace has more pleasant cashiers so it isn't impossible to find better staff. The second star is just for the store membership program and this location, convenient and easy parking though I wish Santa Clarita would start building more covered garages, summer temps getting back into your car can hit 120 degrees. This mall has dozens of stores so you can get most anything you need at one place. read more

I worked in a grocery store in my high school years so I think I know a little bit about how grocery stores work. This store is a mess!!! The registers are not in sync with what the ads are running (check your receipts and you will see) They are always screwing something up with my groceries and the people need to be trained. The produce section always has rotten fruit and its hard to find stuff that will last past a day. I do my grocery shopping down the road at Ralph's. Being from NorCal, this is the furthest location north that I have located Vernor's in a 2 liter bottle. Conveniently, this store is also located next to a Pick up Stix restaurant..my favorite. So this location is a must stop on our Disneyland runs...either coming or going... Mostly the visits have been fine... I am at this place it seems like once a week. I pick up meds for myself, my daughter and my elderly mother. Every time I go in the staff is extremely friendly and make me feel like a person. I have been to other pharmacies that give me the cold shoulder, are very un-friendly and make me stand there forever without eye contact. The Vons staff go out of their way for me even when they are extremely busy. Never have I been to a pharmacy that contacts the dr.s for me and calls me back when asked. It is a home felt pharmacy where you can get the best service and grab food! I love Vons Pharmacy! They are the best! read more

The worst baggers I have seen at a grocery store. Since when did grocery stores become so stingy with their bags they try to cram as much as possible into one bag and then just stick the extra loose items in your basket with no bag. I ask for multiple bags and even get charged for multiple bags but still get everything crammed into one bag. I have been going to the store now for a year and it has never changed. I know they used leftover chicken from I don't know how old, but that's disgusting. I won't return I will never select deli or salad form Von's, and the staff is pretty much. There are many grocery stores around me, but I prefer this one. The bakery is AMAZING, produce is fresh with great variety, store is super clean and pharmacy is quick with prescriptions. However, the customer service is TOP NOTCH. I left my wallet in the shopping cart while unloading groceries. Three hours later, I noticed that I'm missing my wallet (lots of credit cards, and $500 in cash). I called the store and wallet was found by an employee and locked up in the office. Nothing was stolen!!! I mean this does not happen...like never! Thank you VONS, my loyalty is with you. read more

Clean and pretty well-stocked, bigger and more pleasant and upscale-feeling than the one on Lyons Newhall nearby, but here as anywhere on this side of the I-5 you have to buy paper bags or remember to bring your own, no plastic given out or sold whereas they still are on the other side of the freeway as in the Lyons store -- if you need them for kitty litter for example it's a factor but overall this is the better shopping experience. Cashiers so-so and like the other store, don't count on finding someone to help track down an item, they seem kind of under-staffed too, but if you do find someone they're generally pleasant enough. Same older surly cashiers as the other store sometimes but some try to be friendly and I haven't had any really bad experiences. Best thing is the convenient location. Meats and produce generally good condition, no complaints. read more

I bought some disposable cameras and asked the cashier if it was worth buying disney tickets in Vons.The cigarette scented Vons cashier looked at me like I was nuts and asked me why I was going to Disneyland in this weather. ( My disney perma-grin faded.) She further went on to explain that the only reason why any one would buy Disney tickets from Vons is to avoid the long ticket lines at Disneyland. Employees at this store are inconsiderate. I was filling up 5 gallon water containers with their water dispenser right out front of their store. There is a bench 5' away from this water dispenser. An employee came out to smoke right next to me and when I told him don't do it till I'm gone he had the gaul to tell me that's a smoking area which is pure bull. Management at the store needs to let their employees know that smoking right outside of a stores doors is inappropriate at best. read more

We have done most of our shopping at this store--Vons, Stevenson Ranch -- for the last eleven years. It is satisfactory and provides generally good service--if you don't need anything special. Vons has designated us "VIP" customers with a direct line to the manager. HOWEVER, the two times we've asked the manager for something special, we've been disappointed. The first time, we asked for a donation for our sons' basketball organization fundraiser. The manager said, yes, and that the person in charge of donations would get back to us right away. He never did, much time passed, and we had to go back to the manager again. The manager then gave us a $20 gift card. Because it was given past our fundraiser deadline, it will be used next year rather than 2011. The last "special favor" we asked was just a week ago. On a Wednesday, we placed a special produce order for pickup on Saturday morning. Our church was having a large Thanksgiving dinner -- a community outreach-- that evening. The order consisted of 12 heads of iceberg lettuce, 12 of romaine, carrots, cabbage, etc. We gave the produce manager a list of items needed. We spoke to him while the store manager was also present. They both said that it would be taken care of. When we arrived at the store Saturday morning, another person in the produce department tried to help us. She did not have the list of produce and nothing had been gathered for our order. It had to be done that morning--the same as if we had never given them a list in advance. It's really disappointing when you can't count on follow-through or believe promises. For at least the previous six years we had placed this order with our local Ralphs market -- because the person who did the produce ordering before us had ordered from there. Even though we were not regular customers of theirs, they always had the produce boxed and ready to go. Guess we'll go back to Ralphs next year. read more

I go to Vons pretty regularly for certain food items. They almost always have near the date Altadena milk in the dairy section. They got me this time, I bought pumpkin seeds in the produce section. The fellow knew where they were and reached up and got it for me. It turns out these seeds expired 9/30/17 and this is 04/18. I will take them back but it is a good reminder that even the better grocery stores can sell out of date food. My wife complained about the seeds, but it was looking carefully at the back that she realized they were old seeds. Buyer beware. read more

Large parking lot, decent amount of shopping carts... Not a lot floating around in the parking lot. Store seems clean and well lit. Not a lot of extra help to ask someone for things. Looks like they're on a holiday Skelton crew payroll. The prices seem fair, but just like other grocery stores, watch their ads. They had two checkers working tonight. They had about 7 to 8 people in each line. The regular line had a late 50's/early 60's gray hair checker and the express lane had a mid 50's blackhair checker where I checked out. Don't forget to use your Von's club card for extra discounts. She acted like she didn't want to be there tonight. She said hello looking down and said thank you at the end... But it's what she did while I was waiting that annoyed me. She picked up the plastic order dividers and kept throwing them on the conveyor belt. Not in the metal track where you would find them, or nicely in between the next order... She threw them, sometimes two at a time, like they were rocks she was trying to get rid of. She didn't care what the customers had on the belt. Anyway , her name is the same as a famous Ritchie valens song. Enough said. read more

I don't know why we continue to get the families meds here. It's not a frequent trip for us, but there are 6 of us and we've been coming for 15 years! With that said, the pharmacists do not acknowledge you while you wait at the counter. You are ignored and it can be up to 15-20 minutes at a time. They are friendly when they do help you, but an acknowledgement wouldn't hurt. 2nd, every time you need to pick up said rx, they never have it in stock, doesn't matter what it is, they always never have it and have to order and it'll be in tomorrow after 3. I just don't get how a pharmacy cannot carry the meds people need. It never fails here. read more

Terrible. Always check your receipt before you leave. Items marked on sale often do not ring up correctly. Management does not care. Von's needs to fix their computer system or find employees that can correctly tag items. HUGE waste of time.
