I don't know how I let this place slip through my Yelp radar???
I was heading to my friend's house the other day, when I just so happen to pass this little restaurant called Vons Chicken on Pensacola Street, just across the street from the Kaiser Hospital.
I've been to Vons Chicken before, as I tried it at the Palama Supermaket in the Kalihi/Palama neighborhood, but I heard that location had closed, & moved to this current location on Pensacola Street, same owner tho.
This location has no parking at all, so you will have to do the metered street parking, or free street parking within the neighborhood (good luck!).
Please note; if you don't like waiting for your chicken, I highly recommend you call & pre-order your chicken, before going down to Vons Chicken, that way you can cut down on any wait time. I got this tip from my Yelp buddy - Nat N.! (You da bestest Nat! MAHALO for da 411).
So I call the joint up, and the man that picked up on the other end was pretty friendly, I placed my order for the famous - Crispy Fried Shoyu Chicken (1/2 order = 10 wings for $13.60 with tax).
Upon driving down to Vons that evening, I was able to find free parking on the street near the Kaiser Hospital area, then I took a short hop, skip, & jump into Vons Chicken.
Upon entering, I was greeted right away by Jai Park (the owner of this business), Jai was very friendly, & and got my box of Crispy Fried Shoyu chicken ready lickity split, as soon as I walked into the restaurant.
I told him I was gonna eat here, as I like to consume my Crispy Fried Shoyu Chicken hot, because if I took it "to go", I'm sure by the time I got home, the chicken wouldn't be the same as far as texture.
What can I say about the Crispy Fried Shoyu Chicken?
Maaaaaaaan, dat Crispy Fried Shoyu Chicken is Crayzeeeeeeee good!!! I loved the texture & taste of that chicken!!! The shoyu taste was not over powering, or salty.............the chicken was made just right!!! I am definitely coming back here to eat more chicken real soon! So gooooooooood! I had da GRINDZ that day!!! Nom! Nom! Nom!
The restaurant is on the smaller side, with only about 4 or 5 tables, but they also had a bar type table against the window area or the restaurant where it can sit a few more people too.
I noticed a lot foot traffic, as a lot of people came here just do take-out.
Upon finishing my delicious chicken, Jai was very nice to offer me the use of his sink by the restaurant counter area, so you can wash your hands clean after eating all that chicken.
I took him up on the offer to wash my hands, but in actuality, I would have rather licked my hands clean like an ANIMAL! Buwahahahahahaha!
