I love this place! They turned me on to rice cakes (don't remember the Korean name for those little rice delicacies). Now I make 'em at home after buying some at the Eco market in Korea town. Vons boils, then lightly pan fries the cakes so you get crunchy outsides with chewy ricy insides. Wonderful. For protein, go for the roast oven special (seasoned and with sauce) boneless chicken. Located on Pensacola, across the street from Kaiser and Walgreens. There's a few cons to this location: street parking only, limited seatings and no bathroom. Nearest bathroom is inside Walgreens. But the pros outweigh the cons! Hmm..where to start with the pro list...BYOB, friendly staff, prices are reasonable, and bomb ass food. That's really all you need to have a good time. Between a group of 5 people, we ordered the half order of crispy shoyu fried chicken and half order of crispy spicy fried seasoned chicken. Both were delicious and enough to feed an army. FYI, if you decide to get spicy, be prepared to not feel your lips for awhile and have an urgency for more water lol. I called them and told them that a woman said she would give me another free one next time, but when I went back today, they asked me to buy another one and then give me two more, I wasted about 10 mins to wait for the lady calling their boss and asking how to settle, but I still had to pay for it again. This 1-Star review is strictly for the attitude I was given when I walked in at 8:45pm and told the kitchen was closed. I like the chicken here. Even though it's ridiculously expensive, I crave it every now and then. Obviously, I check yelp to see if they're still open, and see that they apparently close at 10pm. I find parking and walk in the door. The man at the register has this incredulous look on his face and tells me they're closed. I was like, ohh, I thought you closed at 10, sorry. Their food and service did not disappoint me. For lunch, I ordered myself a chicken plate lunch (shoyu flavor) for $10.99. It was more than enough for 1 person that also comes with rice and really good Mac salad. I was so impressed with it, I came back to order 2 more plates (Shoyu and Garlic) for a friend for their dinner as a way of thanking her for babysitting my daughter that day. This is my favorite KFC (Korean fried chicken) place on the island. Is it pricey? Yes. Is it hard to find parking? Yes. Is it worth it? YES! I have been coming here for years. They make the wings to order so it's best to call in your order and then swing by 15-20 minutes later to pick up your wings. Because parking is very hard to come by, I usually hop out to get the food while my husband waits in the driver's seat. It's a good way to go about it if you have two people. The wings here are freshly prepared, juicy, flavorful, and crispy without being heavy. We have tried their Crispy Fried, Crispy Fried Seasoned (Spicy version), and Crispy Fried Shoyu. My favorite go-to is the shoyu chicken plate, served with 4 big pieces of chicken wings, rice, Mac salad, and 2 pieces of fried mandoo. The boneless chicken gets you more bang for your buck and isn't as messy, but the wings have a lot more flavor! The wings are sooo crispy and not too oily even though they are fried. The restaurant itself is clean. There are seats available for you to eat there. Parking is on the street and usually easy to find. You can choose boneless or bone in any of the 5 flavors. If you don't need sides then you can order just the wings in any flavor 1/2 order is 10 wings for about $14 or Full order of about 20 wings for about $24. (Includes tax) I decided on a plate of crispy fried shoyu chicken( boneless) w/ a side 1/2 order of honey butter fried chicken wings. The chicken was delicious! Of the two my favorite was the honey butter chicken....the sauce was really good and I wish it had been distributed evenly throughout the chicken. The crispy fried shoyu was just ok but it's the stores most popular chicken so personal preference obviously plays a role. Anyway credit cards are accepted, expect a 10 min wait at least, drinks are can only no fountain and the dining area is very small. A colleague had told me that this chicken was "better than Popeyes," and it was not a disappointment! It took about 20 minutes for the order--but it was made to order, and worth the wait. You don't eat the wings asking, "Where's the chicken?" The chicken just bursts with flavor. The service is fantastic and friendly. There are about 5 tables or a small counter where you can eat inside. You can help yourself to water or order a can of soda for about $.85. There is not much parking--either park in the meters in front of Von's/Subway on Pensacola Street or the street parking on the side of Walgreen's across the street on Young Street. There's not a platter that can be ordered off the menu that allows for the tasting of all the various flavors. The mondoo was tiny, and not the greatest--not really worth ordering. read more

The snow chicken has an unusual sweet taste to it and I've decided I don't like it but we brought it to a party and I was in the minority. The mild spicy looked red hot but wasn't spicy more sweet BBQ with slight hint of spice. For $28 it was two small looking boxes of wings and a small side of pickled daikon which was also good. We called ahead and our order was ready and the service was friendly. Would I go out of my way to get chicken wings from here over anywhere else? Prolly not. I wanted your typical "Yangnyeom" sauce, a sweet and spicy sauce that pairs well with chicken... side note: I miss sweet chili sauce from mcdonalds with nuggets... THIS VONS HAS IT! and I'm not forced to pay for extra chicken that won't be fresh when I refrigerate it. The plate is the perfect amount of chicken and rice. The plate is the perfect price, $8. It also comes with mac salad and two pieces of mandoo. You can also pick your level of spiciness, and spicy was the perfect spice for me. To my surprise...my chicken was boneless! And well, they're both from the south...(If you don't get it, don't worry) There's apparently two locations, but when you do a search, they each come up separately. This location I believe was located within the Palama Market in Kalihi. Something happened and they vacated, moving to their current location on Pensacola Street. I don't know about the Makaloa location, as I've never been to that one. There are a bunch of different seasonings and they can be ordered full or half. Be prepared to wait. If you're lucky, you'll get your order inside of 15 minutes. The wait is well worth it! The chicken is golden crispy on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. I've been here a few times and I NEVER had any that were dry! I got the regular, which has a hint of garlic, but not overwhelming. They're quite similar in flavor to Jollie Bee's, with a bit more of a crunch. CAUTION 1: THEY'RE HOT!! CAUTION 2: THEY'RE ADDICTIVE!! Woolworth's chicken is a thing of the past. FOOD -- We always order half order's (10 pcs.) of CRISPY FRIED SHOYU & CRISPY FRIED SEASONED (MILD) with a side order of rice. The skin of the chicken is crispy and delicious, with the inside meat still moist and not over cooked. My favorite is the crispy fried shoyu, the seasoning is not overpowering or drenched all over the chicken. I definitely recommend trying it. However, if you want to try something different, order the crispy fried seasoned. The seasoning is red and looks like it could be spicy, but it's not. It is very flavorful and not spicy at all. You can choose your spice between mild and hot. PARKING -- Street parking is available on Pensacola, be sure to pay the meter during the parking hours. My wife and I saw Vons on our way to the local Walmart and thought we would give it a shot. I mean, how can you go wrong with Korean wings right? We had the plain crispy wings and the spicy crispy wings as well. Excellent flavors on both entrees and although I tend to enjoy my spicy a bit more SPICY, we thoroughly enjoyed the wings. I would recommend that you order in advance since it took about 15-20 to get our order. The prices were OVER THE TOP for wings. I get that they were fantastic, but our 2 orders were just under $30.
