I bought a new car which needed engine cylinders repaired and cam sensors replaced. Vj's Auto Service worked with me to quickly find how many cylinders would need to be fixed and which cam sensor was needed. We settled on a good price and within very good timing, less than a week, my engine was sent, repaired, and sent back along with a good cam sensor. About two months later I needed my clutch replaced. They gave me a good deal and I was able to drive off in my car, once again, within less than a week. I also come here for my oil changes, which are quick and decently priced. 5/5 stars, my number one auto service place to go to. read more

I had my car smog tested across the street, my car did not pass only because my check engine light did not come on. It was Sat morning about 9:30 or 10. The young man at the smog station said, its probably a bulb shouldn't cost much if it that was the only issue. For convenience, I jumped across the street to VJ's hopefully have it replace that day, no rush, then go to AAA and get my tags. The older gentleman there quoted me $190. But said the Mercedes part store was not open on Sat., and he could not get the part till Monday. He asked me to return Monday. He was also preoccupied on the phone with some plumbing issues at home so my feeling was, he didn't have time. I waited till Monday and went to Johnny's Automotive on Live Oak in Arcadia as it was closer to home and I've been there before. I left my car there and returned a couple hours later only to be charged $47. Are you freaking serious?? This jerk at VJ's was going to charge me $190? Bad bad business! Be very very careful, especially if you're a woman! read more

Do not go here as a single female unless you want your bill padded. I will save my dollars for shopping thank you!

What concerns me the most about this shop, is that my family and I have been going here for years and had a lot repairs done here (come very expensive). Our last visit we had some brake trouble, we figured the discs merely needed replacing, we also thought, why not get an oil change too. The oil change was $100 and the repairs to the brakes were going to be $1500+ they said we needed new tires, the whole nine. I just about soiled myself when I saw the quote. We had a tow truck come by the same day and parked it somewhere till we could get another quote. We had the car fixed somewhere else for less than $300 and it runs great now. If these guys hand you a scary quote, do not hesitate to shop around. I'll pass on coffee and creamer for a better price on auto work anytime. read more

Hands down- most honest and reliable mechanic in Los Angeles, and I should know- I'm from Detroit!

Took in my 2003 Ford Expedition to VJ's for the first time. The A/C air was not coming out the 4 main vents and there was a clicking sound each time I put on the rear air. Tommy was very helpful and Bruno did an excellent job repairing both issues. Had my car back that same day! I asked them to check the rest of the car and was advised to change all my cooling system hoses which had been on for 12 years! Just found out the work I had done at VJ's was way overpriced!!!! My bad for not doing my research! Expensive lesson learned. That is why I had to go from 5 to 3 stars. Although I will say VJ's does quality work, just way too expensive! The exact same repair at another local shop was $350 less! Don't be fooled by the AAA endorsement. It only rates quality of work and does not factor in cost of repair. Had to go from 4 to 3 stars based on recent discovery of unsatisfactory repair. A special nut with a collar was found by me under the seat where the rear passenger side seat belt guide had been taken off to access a panel in the back to replace an A/C servo. The mechanic used a regular nut to reattach the seat belt guide which resulted in the seat belt getting jammed often. As soon as I removed the regular nut and replaced it with the collared nut I found, the jamming problem was resolved! Very disappointing! read more

This place is like family. I first discovered this place at the 1st Ave. Christmas Market and was offered a hot apple cider on a cold Saturday night. My car needed it's 65000 mile service & checkup and they took good care of me. The manager Brian and the owner VJ gave me great personalized service that is rare to find these days. The service was fast and the price was very fair. Thanks Brian! read more

Awesome service! I took my car to another place and they told me that I needed a new alternator for my car, which later I found out that I didn't need one. I took it to VJ's, and they told me that I just needed a new battery. My car's been running great ever since. Such an honest bunch of employees. They are great. They are the definition of customer service. They even went above and beyond to fix my side mirror. :) Definitely recommend these guys. read more

I had to have the entire a/c system replaced on my 2005 Jaguar S-type. This involved removing the entire dashboard & center console. I wanted to inspect the dashboard once removed and VJ's called me just as I asked and allowed me to visually inspect as well as take many detailed photos of the car. The tech was highly skilled and we went over everything that was removed. Since everything else was in great shape, nothing additional needed replacement. He noted someone had worked in the center console, as there were some screws missing. He said he would make sure he replaced them! The tech also cleaned and vacuumed everything before putting it all back together. I love that their work has a 2-year, 24,000 mile warrantee. I was worried that there might be scratches or dirt marks, but when I picked up the car, it was cleaned and looked just like new. Wow. Although this was a pricey, labor-intensive job, the a/c blows ice-cold at idle (and above) and I am confident everything in the dash is assembled just as when the vehicle was new. They noted that the front end needs bushing work, and provided a detailed quote. Not pushy, and I will be back to do that work. This is a shop that is as professional as the dealer, but without the dealer-gouging prices. read more

We recently moved to the San Gabriel Valley and had to find a new auto mechanic. Fortunately I checked on Yelp and found VJs. Everything about VJs is great from it's convenient online scheduling availability to its exceptional customer service. Although their estimate for everything that needed fixing was higher than the actual cost after the repairs were made, I was relieved to be offered a credit option that allows me to pay the total off within 6 months without interest. On top of that, I received a discount as a AAA member. But I was really most impressed by the customer service, particularly the respect, care and consideration with which I was treated. I was offered transportation when I left my car off, but didn't require it since my husband was able to pick me up. There was a small but comfortable waiting area. The personnel were all friendly and personable. I won't hesitate to return to VJs as needed or to recommend it to family and friends. read more

I cannot say praise this place enough. From the customer service to the follow up---all excellent. I brought my 2007Jeep Grand Cherokee in for a strange noise and they were able to fix it fast and for a reasonable price. I was also given a rental car for $10/day. I have used several other local mechanics and I am usually frustrated with the usual llack of professionalism or timeliness of service. This place puts other shops to shame and they seem to really care about the customers. Top notch all around. read more

I had a flat tire some 40 miles from home and had to be towed. AAA recommended VJ's Auto Service which was nearby and Michael was very professional, responsive, and even coordinated a rental for me given the tire size would not be available for delivery until the next day. All in all, a good experience and highly recommend VJ's Auto Service. Mark S. read more

I dealt primarily with Michael, he was super nice, very sincere as well! At the time of paying he did inform me of other things that need to be serviced as well as a tire issue that could haven ended up REALLY bad. He was never pushy, never tried to sell me anything, he just gave me great information! Very confident about bring my car as well as my husbands car back here. read more

OMG they did even better. Came on on their day off to get us back on the road. We can't thank them enough. 2 of Vj's employees came in early on their Saturday OFFto work and get us back on the road. This was the reason we keep coming back to Vj's for outstanding work at a very fair price. But to give up some of there valuable free time to help us. This level is service is unheard of these days. Vj your service family is outstanding. You should be so very happy that they share your pride in quality service and pride on ownership. It's like we were treated like family. Only better. Great place to have such great friends give us a helping hand. Merry Christmas and happy New year's. We will be sure to drop by next year. If only to say hello and thank you again. Love you guys. You are the greatest. Back on the road by 630 A.M. on a Saturday, who would have ever thought possible. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you read more

Where to start? In a word, Vj's Auto Service is OUTSTANDING. From the "triage" desk inside manned by Brian and Tommy to the very personal service carried out by VJ, this outfit is great! They've brought my motor home back to life on different occasions and, most recently, helped me work through issues with an insurance carrier when my tow bar mal-functioned and a new one had to be installed. I've seen Brian climb around our coach bedroom fixing a privacy screen that came undone (no charge); and I've been with VJ when he's climbed under the coach to see why a slideout wasn't functioning properly. John has worked on my coach (perhaps others have as well) with a commitment that you just don't see; and Eric and Carlos at one time or another have seen that I've been shuttled back and forth from the rv storage facility to Vj's. I'm impressed that my expenses don't go to a large waiting room, satellite tv or other bells 'n whistles that have nothing to do with fixing automotive problems. They've helped me find other sources for services they don't provide (e.g., detailing, carpeting, rear monitor) and I've been as happy with those businesses. The work is thorough and I never get the feeling that I'm being "sold up" for parts or services I don't need. On occasion, VJ has gone to the storage facility to get my coach when I've been unable to. And, as far as I can tell, he always road tests it himself to see if problems have been solved. I can't imagine going anywhere else. read more

Stay away! I took my Lexus GX 470 for air suspension issue and was quoted $3742.05 for replacing air compressor and dryer height control and suspension main relay and both air bags; I was told that I needed to run a diagnostic for $60 dollars and also was charged additional $120 smog test because according to mechanic it was necessary in order to find the root of the repair, for a total of $ 180.00 just for diagnostics. I declined the repairs and got a second opinion from a certified Lexus mechanic shop that inspected my vehicle and advised me that one of the airbags had an issue and recommended I replace both air bags and they completed the repair. They also inspected the air compressor and there was no issue with any other parts. Total repair with parts and labor was $794 and no additional repairs were needed. Furthermore, they told me that the previous mechanic had turned off the air compressor. I trusted this mechanic shop based on the reviews and unfortunately I did not have the same experience. Honestly, I feel like they were trying to overcharge me because of my inexperience. read more

I was towed into Vj's because my car died on the freeway. The tow truck driver recommended Vj's because he had been going there for years and it was near my house. I left my car there and everyone was very friendly. Vj's has a shuttle service so they gave me a lift home so I didn't have to wait. I got a call from the shop and they told me it was a just a loose battery! It was so refreshing to finally find a honest auto repair shop. The shop was very clean, the guys were respectful, and the owner was very caring. read more

My car wouldn't start and I was 30 miles from home. $10/mile after 7 miles with AAA, who recommended this place probably due to the distance from where I was. I have a 2003 Toyota Corolla and it needed a starter which I had changed out last than a year ago. Because I was stuck and had no choice I had to change it out to get home. They charged me almost $500, the part $330 and labor $140. The part is usually half that. This place is a rip off. Since I changed the starter less than a year ago, it was a manufacturing defect I requested to get the part back where I can return or get an exchange. They now want to charge me an extra $60 to get my own part back due to what they call a core fee. This is when I find out they will be using a remanufactured part vs a new part for the repair. They said a brand new part would have been a lot more expensive. Then they said I should know they are using a remanufactured part because the car is more than 5 years old and the parts are no longer made brand new. I didn't know that was common knowledge. Am I the only one that doesn't know this? In the end and after an exchange of words with two different employees they decided to let me have my own part back without the extra charge. They still made over a few hundred dollars on me and I still feel like I can't trust them. They are the reason why auto repair shops get a bad reputation. They take advantage of people when they are in need of help. read more

Had my first and last experience with VJ's. I have no problem with the quality or timeliness of repairs, or even their friendly approach. All of that was great. My problem with my experience was the amount I was charged for the replacement part. After looking into the cost of the exact same part through Dorman themselves, the dealership, and Rock Auto, I was over charged by $200!! I went back to voice my concern and was told, "I put the part number in and that's the price it gave me." Don't think so. They may be part of a cohort of repair establishments that all use a shared system for ordering parts, but either you're getting ripped off for parts or you have no idea how to get parts at a competitive price. In either scenario, that translates into the customer overpaying for the parts. Oh....Let's not mention that there is a core charge ($100) that they get back for returning the faulty part so that Dorman can rebuild that one. Most expensive example from O'Reily's for the exact same: part $195.95 minus $100 core charge = $95.95 plus tax. I was charged $283 for the part after they gave me a discount of $25.00, which means the original price they gave me was $308. I gave it a chance and even a second chance, no third chances!! read more
