Overly expensive, and apparently "saw me coming" (was ready to take advantage of me, a senior female). The mechanic itemized (recommended) a list of repairs to do in order to pass the smog test, which had just failed. Charges would be in excess of $700 (not all of the "recommendations indicated the potential charge). I left to shop around. Got a recommendation of a better place from a retired auto mechanic and went there. There was only one item that actually needed doing...for less than $100. I brought in my 2008 VW Passat after reading the great reviews on Yelp. When arriving, the first thing that I notice is this is more of a tuner shop, geared towards Hondas and Japanese imports. There were a lot of fixed up rides in the front. The funny thing also is that I think there are only 3 people that work at this place and about 5 others that just hang out and "kick it". It didn't look very professional to me and everyone there looked under 30. I decided to try it out anyway and brought my car in for a 15k service. I dont like to go to the VW dealer as they were charging a lot more. The guy wrote up the quote and said the car should be done end of day. I picked up the car as promised and found out they also washed it. Not bad!. That night, I drove my car and heard a strange scratching noise. I look under and it looked like they didn't screw in my under panel correctly when removing it for the oil change! I had my dad take a look and he said, they missed 3 screws! Great, I didn't want to bring it back so my dad had to fix it for me. A good mechanic is very hard to come by, when they tell you they did something, you can only trust their word as you're not sure what they've done under the hood. In my case, I felt they were very careless and probably did a rush job. Missing 3 screws on the under tray, I wonder what else they missed when performing my maintenance?! read more

The guys here have honest work, and they do literally just about everything when it comes to cars, from a simple oil change, to fender rolling, to swapping engines. But note that this is still originally based as a mechanics shop (as far as I'm concerned). They're also a vendor of just about anything related to cars, so a lot of times I find it convenient to just go through them for parts. Tuan, Alec, and JJ are all very helpful. There's times where they get busy and is difficult to move work around, but your needs will still be taken care of. So I got a little crazy with my tire fitment.. yes, tire fitment. I have an 2014 WRX running 17x9 +35 with some 255/40/17. After throwing my wheels on, my tires were slicing the shit out of my tires. I immediately started searching for a shop to roll my fenders in fear of needing to replace $600 in tires. I found Fast Autoworks and realized a few of my friends have visited this shop. I've been out of the car scene and industry for years so my view towards import shops was not very high. I was hesitant to entrust my brand new car with Tuan and Alec, but oh man, much respect for the work they did. They were booked and although I made an appointment for 2PM, it was about 3PM before they got to my car. A little aggravating, but no biggie. They pulled my car in and started working on it around 3:15PM. What made my day was the fact that there were two guys working on my fenders. One guy was heating the fenders to prevent paint cracking while the other guy adjusted the fender roller. Oh yes I was impressed. 30 min later they were done and I have to admit they did a pretty good job. No more rubbing, no waves on either fender, and both sides were completely even. I think my happiness has a lot to do with the fact that my car is perfectly drivable now. I did some extensive canyon driving after an alignment at JC Autohouse, and there's no rubbing at all! A big factor in any shop that you entrust your prized possession with is the relationship. It does not have to be a long relationship, but sometimes it is just a matter of gut feeling. My gut feeling comes from an interaction with someone. The phone call was a little...let's just say interesting, but the negotiation was what really got me here. The face to face interaction was what made me feel more at ease. After waiting 2 hours for my coilover installation, I went home feeling secure. Little did I know that a week later there was going to found an installation that was incomplete. Coming in again a little discouraged, I at least left quickly without hassle and without questions asked. Phew! I usually come here to get all of my car maintenance needs taken care of by Tuan! First things first, I have a modded luxury sedan, and I am very picky about who works on my car. With that being said, I have been to Fast Autoworks numerous times for oil changes, a brake pad change, etc. and they have provided excellent customer service each time that I was there. Tuan is very courteous and no BS; he will listen to your problem and help take care of it. He charges fairly and will not give you the run-around about what is causing your car problem. I'm updating my review based on a few things. When I had my initial suspension installation done here, I was quoted $60 for some additional work I needed to install a camber kit. After getting my alignment done and confirming the camber kit installation was needed, I called back and confirmed the price. It has been over 2.5 months and just now did I find the time to buy the kit. I called to schedule an appointment today, and the quote more than doubled in price to $130! I'm no mechanic but judging from what I've read about this particular installation, it's an hour's worth of work on my car. So unless their rates just doubled, I don't get the inconsistency. Then I called back to ask for a quote on some lighting installation, to which I was quoted $185, a sky high price for the exact labor I had done on an old car by a reputable shop in Texas for about $75. With quotes like these, there's no point spending the time driving out to Arcadia for custom car work. There's not even a point calling anymore. Disappointing. read more

His services is not what we expected when we first bring out car in. They always can't get it right the first time, even if he gets it right you always have to bring it back a second time or something else wrong and always something else. I had some work done by this shop some good some not so good. I had my truck worked on and when I came to pick it up it was filthy. Some one left cigarettes and ashes in the cab of the truck. The owner never offered to have it clean up. my truck smelled like cigarettes. I don't smoke. I had to take the truck a car wash shop to clean and shampoo the interior and the truck stills like some one smoked in it. I also had some warranty work done by this shop and its still not fixed. I have to find another shop. They tried to fix again. When I got the car back. The rear tires are rubbing every time I make a turn. I brought back it again. And soon as I made a turn the tires are rubbing again. He said they fixed. Its like they never even tested the car to see what was the problem was. I am very disappointed. read more

Came in for some work done on my engine and a standard oil change and engine wash. My first impression is that the mechanics were very knowledgeable and friendly. Inside the building they have different things for sale like car parts and rims.You'll also notice they have displayed numerous awards and certificates (even a member of the Better Business Bureau) so I know these guys are professional and trustworthy. Charged me $3500 to swap a B16 that came from one of the cars on their lot into my civic. Vtech stopped working after a week. They told me to get it dynoed and the tech who dynoed it said the computer didn't match the engine. This was a while back and have been meaning to write a review but have been very busy. I ended up selling the car a few months later for close to what I paid for the swap. The guy who bought the car called Fast Autoworks to ask about the swap. He provided details about the car but they replied that the didn't remember and to bring it in for them to take a look. My initial plan was to have them swap in an imported JDM engine which I would purchase and bring in myself but the owner suggested an engine he had. I trusted it would be a good engine but was wrong. Guess he needed to sell the engine/car and was waiting for the right sucker. read more

I've known Tuan for years and consider him, and Kevin, my friends. I have a couple Lexus models, so I don't get to see them often. I recently bought a 92 Mazda 4x4 and the A/C took a dump. Kevin hooked the truck up to their A/C machine and told me what was wrong. I'm a frugal guy, so I bought the A/C compressor online. Took the truck back to the guys in the morning and it was done and waiting for me when I got off work that same day. The install was perfect. A/C blows cold, and it was hardly noticeable when turning it on. Compressor was damn near silent! Kevin had to reset a relay and replace a fuse because the old compressor really did a number on things. I wish these guys all the best because they're not only good at what they do, but they're really great people. read more
