Stopped for our annual Christmas breakfast with the guys. The staff is always friendly and competent. They're always happy to see you, you always feel welcome. The place is warm and clean, has that small town feel to it. Got a cheese omelette with hash browns and pancakes. Everything was great as usual. I usually get the pancakes instead of the toast; I guess that's a good thing since the other reviews complain about the toast... :-) Stopped again for breakfast, but with my wife before church. We have found a new favorite go-to for breakfast!! I come from a small town and live in a city now that has lots of options , but very few compare to that home town cooking with generous portions and service with a smile, that always keeps your coffee cup filled. That is until now. I had the hungry man and everything was cooked to order exactly the way I asked, even the crispy hash brown potatoes. My wife ordered a scramble that she couldn't finish because the "silver dollar" pancakes were plate sized and so good that they filled her up. She was worried because when pancakes are that large, many times they aren't fully cooked...not the case here! They had plump whole blueberries and I had to try them and can confirm that they were fantastic! The service was spot on. We will return! read more

The food was just ok. My steak (I had steak and eggs) was undercooked and a little chewy. It should have been served on a separate plate, the blood ran all over my eggs, and the pancakes were ice cold. What I have a big issue with is how filthy this place was! The window casings are covered with greasy finger prints, the shades have food splatter all over them, and uggg, OMG, the base of the windows look l they have never been cleaned! The table bases are caked with filth. I didn't even bother to try using the restroom. Sorry but for me, when I go to a restaurant, I expect it to be relatively clean. Busy Sunday morning, but they moved quickly and our predicted 10 minute wait was right on. Clean, tidy appearance. Lots of friendly staff. Wife had French toast and bacon. The latter was quite good. My San Francisco omelette was cooked perfectly, and I would have used less cheese. Hash browns were pretty well done. Good rye bread. All in all a nice experience. I have driven by this restaurant many times in my short time in Nebraska. The parking lot is always packed, which I take as a good sign. My Wife and I went in for lunch and ended up having breakfast. The menu has great breakfast choices and if lunch is on your mind, you won't be disappointed. My Wife ordered over easy eggs, bacon, hash browns, and potatoes. I ordered the steak and eggs over easy with fruit and pancakes. We were both living dangerously. Orange juice and ice tea for drinks. Eggs were cooked perfectly. We also loved the bacon. Nice sized portion and great flavor. My steak was prepared medium and was also prepped as ordered. Nice fruit cocktail. Have not had pancakes in a long while. They were great. Very family oriented. Biscuits and Gravy were below average and the toast was below average too. Gravy was just gross. Didn't have much flavor like everything else. My wife and I recently grabbed breakfast at Vidlak's and I have to say that it was merely A-OK. Upon being seated, we were greeted fairly quickly and service was fine. I had the western omelette with hashbrowns and toast. The omelette was meh. I don't love omelettes where the ingredients are mixed in with the eggs. That is a western scramble. To me, an omelette is filled with the ham, cheese, and other ingredients and the egg is folded in half with all the stuff inside it. The toast was not toast....it was barely heated bread. I ate it because I like bread of all kinds but it wasn't toasted enough. The hashbrowns were good. My wife had bacon, eggs, hashbrowns and toast. Again, it was all just OK for her. Neither of us were impressed. It's not bad, it's not great. It just was and that probably isn't enough to bring us back again. read more

First time here, and we loved it!! Both ordered the Hungry Man Breakfast, 3 eggs, 3 sausage, 3 bacon, hash browns, 2 pancakes (or toast), less than $10 each. It was all perfectly prepared, even the hash browns extra crispy, as requested. Very attentive wait staff, too. Boyfriend had coffee, and our waitress (Rachel) came by three times to refill, while another roaming waitress also came by to refill coffee and water. And they are on Pinpoint, so we got $10 off our meal, and we just rolled that into an extra tip for the delightful Miss Rachel. They just reopened Monday, they said, and we assured them we'd come back again and again! What a feel-good place to dine, with (at least) three generations of family! read more

CINNAMON ROLLS AS BIG AS YOUR HEAD Now that I have your attention...I loved this place, it just reminds me of the local breakfast venues of when I was a kid out with my parents. Love this place. Decent prices, good food, fast friendly service, keep your coffee filled. We've named it "West O Leavenworth". The only negative thing i can think of is just that there are a lot of young kids working there and they tend to congregate and make a ruckus in the corner service station, so heads up, if that sort of thing annoys you, ask to sit in the back! We got seated extremely fast when the restaurant was full. I really wasn't impressed with the food. The toast was slightly burnt for my fiance and for mine tasted almost raw. There was no flavor with my eggs. I got the Mexican Scramble. There was nothing Mexican about it and there was no cheese. The hash browns were the best part. On the other hand, my fiance got the Chicken Fried Steak and absolutely loved it. He ate everything on the plate. The service was great during the whole meal, but my meal was not the best. Absolutely delicious food and we definitely understand the hype, now! The lines are always wrapped around the outside of the building, but we waited this time and we were happy we did. Went there after lunch rush hour and service was terrible. Waitress say talking at a table ignored that new customers had walked in. We sat ourselves and waited for anyone to bring water see all for our order. When a waitress did decide to visit our table, literally she was one step from our table when a friend of hers walked through the door. She turned around to get her friend. Once she was through talking to her friend, she finally came to our table. While to the waitress ignored our tab, not one of the other waitresses felt the need to get up from the table to help. Ok I've eaten here a few times and it's for the most part always good. Today was not - there was a half of a tiny black bug on my plate. I had had about 1/4 of the pancakes, so I'm pretty sure I ate the other half. The waiter removed my pancakes and 5 minutes later asked if I'd like some to go. Ummm - no. Fresh off of a no call/no show for one of my clients, I brought my "frustrated" appetite and this place turned my inner savage beast into a contented child who is ready for bed after completing winding down activities. The first thing I had the pleasure of consuming was the Cinnamon Roll French Toast. Yeah, that's what I said when I read it. And it was BOMB! And I say that as one who doesn't particularly like a sweet breakfast (unless it's Cinnamon Toast Crunch, of course). I followed that up with a Garage Burger and Beef & Vegetable soup. Ordered breakfast faire and it was brought to our table within 10 minutes cooked exactly as we asked. Service was great and once again I was not disappointed in my food or the experience. Vidlak's is an institution of sorts. For people that like plain food. Which I guess a lot of people do in Nebraska. The service is very attentive, they keep topping off your coffee so that by the time you leave you don't know how much you had, but your hands are jittery so you know it was too much! The waitstaff is all local high school students. The orange juice is absolutely fake and awful, it tastes like it comes out of one of those bubblers. Lots of sugar and chemicals. The bacon was variable, some crispy, some underdone. Every order seems to come with white toast AND pancakes AND hash browns. You get unlimited butter and a LOT of maple syrup. See where I'm going here? By the time you're done, you've consumed 3000 calories. At breakfast. Yum, I guess, but I didn't need lunch on this day. Chicken fried steak was passable, the crust had a good firmness to it, but the sausage gravy had probably Jimmy Dean's sausage in it, not homemade. Scrambled eggs with it were fine. The hash browns were a bit underdone to suit me, no crispiness, and very little flavor. You pay up front, a throwback to old times. Lot of people pay cash here, then walk back to leave the tip. Totally adequate. I've been there twice - both times the wait has been really, really long. I don't mind a long wait, but the food has to be good. This place is fine. There seem to be a lot of people working at the establishment but many of them seem to be buzzing about feverishly not really doing much. With all those people working there, I would think tables should be cleared quicker and things would turnaround much faster. I've had breakfast and some fried treats. All were A-OK, not bad, not great, just middle of the road. If we are in Omaha again, I sup sect we will go again since the choices are limited. They are always very fast in getting their food out but I don't like how they always have kids waiting the tables. I'm not sure if they are grandkids or grandkids friends but it would be nice to have an adult waiter sometimes. But I always talk Vidlak's up! I love this place!!! read more

Newspapers all over, for your reading pleasure- the after-church crowd, the hung over crowd, the families, and the blue hairs all congregate on a typical Sunday. The food is generous, delicious and quick! How can you beat that? The Chicken Fried Steak is hand-breaded, and hash browns always cooked to perfection. Their menu is vast enough that you can get about any egg/bread/meat combo you could dream up. The service is always friendly and consistent. Folks complain about the décor- who cares? It's a breakfast joint! If you're looking for a more upscale brunch-esque experience, this isn't your place.
