I stopped by to try this restaurant's breakfast on the recommendation of a friend since I was in the area. Despite the excellent service of my waitress, I was greatly disappointed. Perhaps it's a difference in my palate with regard to their cooking. I ordered the Omaha omelette with hash browns and pancakes. The omelette looked perfectly fluffy but instead of enjoying broccoli florets there were broccoli stems in the omelette, very little cheese and no seasoning I could taste. The hash browns were greasy with no distinct crust or buttery insides and what bothered me the most were the pancakes. The pancakes were razor thin instead of thick cakes and the maple syrup didn't taste good hot. I am sorry to write such a negative review. However, I will give the place a second chance and go try their lunch menu. read more

My lady and I went in for lunch, and the food was spectacular as was the service. The atmosphere was pleasant, and it was a bright airy feeling in the room. Vidlak's is a staple in our selection of breakfast food places. Staff is all seasoned and knows exactly what questions to ask to get your order perfect and they also make some great suggestions. It's generally pretty busy there on the weekends, but they have fast turnover so you'll be seated in no time. Menu has sweet breakfasts (my favorite in the cinnamon roll French toast), savory breakfasts, lunch, and a la carte options. Great pricing for the quality and the portion size. This place is not fancy by any means but it's affordable and delicious. They are able to accommodate larger groups of people as well. My wife and I have joined the ranks of regulars here for breakfast on Saturdays. They make great omelettes, scrambles, biscuits and gravy, pancakes and French toast; you name it, if it's a breakfast standard, they serve it and serve it well. We've never been disappointed in the service, either. The wait staff is prompt and friendly without being intrusive. Coffee comes around frequently, and it's good coffee so you don't mind getting refills. Ruth and Jan at the hostess stand take good care of you getting in and checking out. I had been wanting to try this place for a while and let me tell you, it did not disappoint! I had an omelette (created my own) that came with a side of hash browns. The omelette was packed full of ingredients and the hash browns were cooked to perfection, nice and crispy! I upgraded my side of toast or pancakes to the cinnamon roll french toast. It was amazing, the warm frosting on top was drool worthy. The service was phenomenal and the food came out within minutes after ordering. It was so quick! Really good Saturday morning breakfast! It was about a 10 minute wait for a table at 11am. The place was busy, but not completely full. The service was excellent and fast! I got the steak and eggs and subbed the cinnamon roll French toast for an up charge. Both were excellent! I didn't expect much from the steak at a breakfast joint, but another yelp picture drew me in! the steak was tender and cooked medium rare just like i ordered it. The seasoning was really good too. For a $13 meal (plus the up charge) it was excellent. The hash browns were great, crisp on top and less crisp on the bottom. The eggs were cooked right. The cinnamon roll French toast was very sweet. It had ample frosting. I could only eat about half of it because this was a very large meal. But I would have it again today! I will be back! My only complaint was the long line to checkout. There were about 5 people in front of me. Also the floors near the bathroom were slick. They need a deep cleaning. read more

1000% our family's FAV breakfast/brunch place in town. There is a reason you'll have to wait during prime breakfast hours on weekends so try visiting on a weekday or come late to avoid a wait. This place has always reminded me of the small town cafes' I grew up around (Weston, Ne) and our food is always perfect. And, although they are always busy their service is top notch. They are a well-oiled machine between the cook and the servers. When we have the time, we drive in from the Gretna area because they cook everything perfect every time - over easy or sunny side up - bacon crisp - gravies perfect. The chicken fried steak was an out of the bag food service product, canned vegetables and instant potatoes. It was not bad, just was expecting more. Very simple and almost small town feel in the cafe. Food is out to you very quickly and the waitress's are always helpful and quick. You can be in and out within 30 minutes with a full belly at this place. My favorite is the cinnamon roll French toast with some bacon. The gravy was the same - packaged with bits of sausage. The big problem was my server, Gabby. So inattentive. Only one coffee refill. Waited until near end of my meal. Send someone early to snag a table! This place is clearly a local favorite, it was super busy. Totally slammed with a crowd waiting at the door. The food was about what you'd expect for diner fair- good quality classic "greasy spoon" menu, served in a clean and casual atmosphere. Staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are very reasonable. If you're out for a nice time, decent food, and affordable dining, this is a good option. Wouldn't drive way out of our way for it, but would definitely come again if in the area. read more

Ok the 5 stars is mostly b/c they have the worlds best cinnamon roll! Like fo' realsssss! I always get a crazy craving (pregnancy or not) for these damn things! The rest of the food is good, I mean its greasy spoon breakfast, so you can't really mess that up, but I love that they let you sub the cinnamon roll basically for any carb/bread like part of your meal for just a small up charge (oh did I tell you it's totally worth it to get the cinnamon roll). It's a fairly big restaurant so even during prime time (which seems to be after church time on Sunday) they still have plenty of seats and if a wait, just a small one. I had heard mixed reviews about this place. We live very close and the parking lot is always packed. We gave it a try. It was packed but was seated within 10 minutes. My husband and I both tried the chicken fried steak and eggs. Did not disappoint. Comes smothered in white sausage gravy. Kids had scrambled eggs and sausage and pancakes. There was a lady walking around constantly refilling coffee which really impressed me. Always topping it off keeping it hot. There is also a pinpoint offer which gave us $10 off. Nice surprise. On previous visits, since August 2017, to Vidlak's Brookside Café we have been using the Fox 42 Breakfast Tour card, so we have been restricted to a pre-fix menu, but this time there were no restrictions. I had their Cattleman's Egg Benedict which is an eggs benedict made with a 7oz NY Strip Steak served on a toasted English muffin, drizzled with hollandaise sauce and served with hash browns. It was a unique twist on the Eggs Benedict that I was used to. The steak was cooked just the way I had asked for it to be cooked, rare, and the Hollandaise Sauce was satiny smooth and delicious. My wife had 2 Blueberry Pancakes and 4 strips of crisp bacon. The pancakes just about covered the entire plate, had plenty of Blueberries and the bacon was cooked the way she likes it. The service was the same as it has been in the past, fast and friendly. To their credit, nothing has changed, I think it is still one of the best places to start your day. read more
