Our dogs enjoyed the doggie area.
Susan R.

Amazing selection of burgers, really good Tropical drinks, friendly service , great waterfront view with outdoor seating. We sat outside in the doggie area. Dogs are treated like kings here and have their own menu! Our furry family had a great time.

Decided to go back now they have reopened. Wait staff very friendly and service was good. Food was good, nothing above and beyond. Will try the burger next time for a baseline comparison. Had the pulled pork and the steak sandwiches The 3 star is mostly Tap beer was kinda warm ish - bottle near was fine. A little pricey too. The 2 beers , iced tea sandwiches plus tip was $60.00 Perhaps they could do a "happy hour" day. We will be back though. Love the outdoor seating

Re-Opened after water main burst! Good view and friendly service. Here for a beer and apps.

Ribs and shrimp tasty
Amanda G.

Ok we had soft pretzels the kind you buy at grocery store. The two soups were not edible. Onion and not sure the other one but it tasted like flour. I had ribs and shrimp. Over all good the onion straws were not my favorite. My friends had the taco and chicken sandwich. Would try Ag with no soup or pretzels. Burger are supposed to be good but I was not in mood for that. Will go back and try and let you know at some point lol. Ps we tried to sit at the bar and was told we couldn't. That was strange. So we had to sit at a table.

Onion rings with 3 dipping sauces

Few things I enjoy more than a hot summer day on a boat, and docking at a more than adequate waterside joint for cocktails and snacks. Such was the case I hit Vickies Place, in McHenry, IL. McHenry is perched on the Fox River, which runs into the Chain of Lakes, on up to outside of Milwaukee, and south to the Illinois River, which rolls into the Mississippi about 25 miles north of St. Louis. I'm sure most summer days Vickies is a mad house, but in the middle of a weekday after noon when we floated up, it was relatively quiet. The menu has something for every taste. I will caution you in advance, this is one of those places you are going to get OVERSERVED in the food realm. I opted for an order of rings as a starter, which came with three different dipping sauces, very tasty, big mistake, as all of the over-sized sandwches are accompanied by BOTH fries and onion straws. Could be wrong, but had the feeling the rings weren't made in house, but the onion straws were. Both were delicious. The fries? Those extruded things, I know they are popular with a lot of people, just not my personal favorites - I like to be able to tell fries came from a potato. I went with the Black and Blue Lagoon burger, cajun seasoned hand-formed eight ounce patty, blue cheese crumbles, and blue cheese sauce - served on the most incredibly soft butter-topped roll. Dressed with lettuce and tomato, with a great pickle spear on the side. Real crunch. The patty was quality beef, and the taste came through loud and clear. Couldn't get anywhere near finishing the plate. They have entrees, sandwiches, baskets, house-made pizza, and the ubiquitous Friday night fish fry. Our server "K.C." was affable, knowledgeable, and outgoing. Attentive without hovering. She's wasting her talents there. If you find yourself boating up the Fox, or driving the back roads of northern Illinois, Vickies is worth a stop.

Great place for summer drinking by the river. They have margarita flights and a large drink menu. Food was not too bad either.

Nice place during the boating season. Pretty decent food, nothing fancy, pretty good portion size.

Parking is tight, prices are high and staff has been adequate. There's no reason I would go out of my way to eat there, it's nothing special

Scenery is great right along the river, but the food can be a little pricey for the quality. Stick to the mainstays and you should be ok.

Not gourmet cooking, but good burgers, lots of beer choices, an outdoor deck on the Fox River, always enjoy Vickies. Worth a drive.

Date of visit: December 13, 2025…read more I love a good Mexican place, and as much as I enjoy Carlos's, it is good to have other options for when I go to visit my friend in the McHenry/Spring Grove area. The restaurant is very large with a variety of seating options including some interesting swings. I say interesting because it's really more of a novelty than anything; honestly, do you really want to have a seat that moves while you're eating chips with salsa? The menu is interesting, with a heavy focus on birria (think brisket, if you're unfamiliar) including in a dipped/fried taco as well as a grilled cheese sandwich, which is what I went with. While the meat in the sandwich was good, there was very little cheese to speak of, and that should be an important component of a grilled...cheese. However the chips and salsa were excellent, with some of the best chips I've had in quite some time, they really taste like more. In terms of the salsa, they are not lying with the "Diablo" in their name. If you are not a fan of spicy, stay away from the salsas as even the mild is fairly potent after a few chips. Also note that sour cream is available but doesn't tend to come WITH things by default, so be prepared to ask for that if it's a key part of your Mexican meals. Also disappointing, the tacos come with raw onions on top. This isn't mentioned on the menu, and was a very unwelcome addition to the dish. Service was a bit of a mixed bag; Jasmine was nice and attentive but struggled on some aspects, including telling us what the three salsas were when she brought them to the table, and saying that birria was a "biscuit," which thoroughly confused us. She asked if we wanted more chips and we declined, but then she brought more anyways.

The spot next to us was clearly marked and had a sign also. We parked next to it where there were no markings. We moved our car and was seated outside. We had a choice of inside or outside. Our Waitress took our drink and food order. We ordered water and it took forever to get it. The waitress was going around several times getting refills on alcohol for other tables. Both times I asked for lemon in the water. Never got any. I knew the pressure cooked chicken would take awhile . The food was excellent. The salads were large. Scenery was great. At one point we went inside and our Waitress was talking to the other staff . We were waiting on drink refills. A young gentleman cleared our dirty dishes and was very polite and hoped we were having a good day. I would go back for the food and scenery. I would request someone else to wait on us . Everything was great about this place and the hype is legit!…read more First off, the parking is great! A nice big free lot across the street. No need to find street parking. We walked in on a lazy Sunday post the lunch rush, around 2. I forget what burger I got, but it did not disappoint. Everyone who has said I need to check it out was tight. It was very good. The burger was flavorful and juicy. The toppings were fresh and the fries were tasty. Everything was great! I returned with my burger club and most guys liked it however, some got the burgers that had so much going on that your taste buds are in over drive. Just stick with a build your own burger and avoid all the crazy toppings and you'll love it.

The restaurant is in the heart of downtown McHenry and next to the river. I highly recommend sitting in the enclosed patio. It's spacious, full of tvs, and has a nice view of the river. You can tell based on the menu and confirmed by our server, burgers are their thing. All kinds including beef, bison, chicken, turkey, veggie and fish, some choices are an up charge. The burgers come with a side, some have an up charge. Our server mentioned everything is made in-house. I feel it's a rarity of restaurants to made their food in-house so it made me excited for the food. Everything is reasonably price. I opted for the BFM burger and pickle chips ($2 up charge). The burger was juicy and well cooked. Their burgers are 1/2 lbs so it was big. The pickle chips were crunchy and really good. Portion was huge and worth the up charge. My lunch partner chose Cajun fries and they were crispy and flavorful. Our server was great! She was so nice! One negative, they allow dogs and many people brought their dogs. Since the space is enclosed, I did not like all the dogs while I was eating. It was tricky leaving since the hostess stand is located in the tight entrance and there was a dog right in the doorway. My lunch companion is deathly allergic to dogs. Luckily this dog owner was considerate and moved their dog so we could pass. Other than all the dogs, we enjoyed our meal and would come again.
