( its discontinued during the summer, I was told because there are more people in the summer) was disappointed. food order wrong, there were two of us. when the fish (both fried and broiled) arrived it was dry, or old, or previously frozen. During the off season, we would try different fish fry's and use Vickies as the Gold standard. We were never asked how everything is, I suspect they know. such a shame, the hunt is on for a new Vickies Fish Fry. read more

Came fora quick lunch after a doggy play date. They had a a separate doggy patio which was clean and had lots of shade for the dogs. The servers were nice overall but definitely stuck to some tables over others. I did like that they had a dog menu and brought out bowls for each dog which was great. The chicken was up to my pup's standards and probably would have had 5 more if I let him. I got the Malibu chicken sandwich, it had good flavor just a little overcooked. Can't complain overall, food was good besides being a little dry. Overall it was a decent experience and we would come again, it had a nice atmosphere. read more

Visited today as it was a beautiful day and wanted some tiki and sunshine! I ordered a banana daquiri drink which was $11. It was good but came in a glass with no garnish or fruit / looked so plain and unfun. I would expect. more tiki vibe and for the price - it was kinda dull with not much liquor. My friends drink was the same. Plain and lacking much booze. Our meal was decent - total bill $50 for 2 with drinks is pretty much the going rate but presentation was lacking. I stopped by here a few months ago and had a late lunch happy hour time. It was not busy, I suspect because the weather was not great and it appears to be the kind of place people go to sit outside and watch the boats and due to weather no boats. It's on the river. So I got the Rueben at a friends suggestion. And it was very good I have to say. It came with fries which were also decent. The atmosphere inside is old-time bar. Nothing out of the ordinary for sure. The outside-riverside deck is very tiki hut themed with the umbrellas covered with a faux tiki-like grass. Cute but nothing special. The poor bartender was bored from lack of business, with only a few others there while I was there, but friendly and attentive. I'm sure this place gets many days with more business and must be popular because I think it's been there awhile judging from the decor. Seems a lot of locals like it and I was just there in the off hours on a crappy weather day. So in conclusion good bar food, but nothing to write home about. read more

Decided to go back now they have reopened. Wait staff very friendly and service was good. Food was good, nothing above and beyond. Will try the burger next time for a baseline comparison. Had the pulled pork and the steak sandwiches The 3 star is mostly Tap beer was kinda warm ish - bottle near was fine. A little pricey too. Hamburger was a typical pub burger. I watched our waiter, Jason eat at the service end of the bar from the time we arrived until the time we left. It wasn't busy he might have had 3 tables. As we left a member of our party went to the restroom and as she came out walked toward the table where she had been sitting. There are two small stairs into the bar area. The floor is a vinyl brown and has NO warning about the stairs. She fell and racked her ribs on the railing. When her husband said they need to put a warning (yellow tape maybe) the staff looked at him like he was nuts. Poor attitudes! read more

First time at Vickie's yesterday! Food was great , the docks are decent and has a beautiful view. Really great spot for delicious burgers, salads, and sandwiches. Didn't get a chance to try the pizza, but really the whole menu looks amazing. Friendly service, fun cocktails, and a scenic waterfront setting make this a great spot for casual dining. The servers were polite and great by treating customers so well. They gave everything from bringing extra napkins to refilling our drinks without having to ask. Ok we had soft pretzels the kind you buy at grocery store. The two soups were not edible. Onion and not sure the other one but it tasted like flour. I had ribs and shrimp. Over all good the onion straws were not my favorite. My friends had the taco and chicken sandwich. Would try Ag with no soup or pretzels. Burger are supposed to be good but I was not in mood for that. Will go back and try and let you know at some point lol. Ps we tried to sit at the bar and was told we couldn't. That was strange. Few things I enjoy more than a hot summer day on a boat, and docking at a more than adequate waterside joint for cocktails and snacks. Such was the case I hit Vickies Place, in McHenry, IL. McHenry is perched on the Fox River, which runs into the Chain of Lakes, on up to outside of Milwaukee, and south to the Illinois River, which rolls into the Mississippi about 25 miles north of St. Louis. I'm sure most summer days Vickies is a mad house, but in the middle of a weekday after noon when we floated up, it was relatively quiet. The menu has something for every taste. I will caution you in advance, this is one of those places you are going to get OVERSERVED in the food realm. I opted for an order of rings as a starter, which came with three different dipping sauces, very tasty, big mistake, as all of the over-sized sandwches are accompanied by BOTH fries and onion straws. Could be wrong, but had the feeling the rings weren't made in house, but the onion straws were. Both were delicious. The fries? Those extruded things, I know they are popular with a lot of people, just not my personal favorites - I like to be able to tell fries came from a potato. I went with the Black and Blue Lagoon burger, cajun seasoned hand-formed eight ounce patty, blue cheese crumbles, and blue cheese sauce - served on the most incredibly soft butter-topped roll. Dressed with lettuce and tomato, with a great pickle spear on the side. Real crunch. The patty was quality beef, and the taste came through loud and clear. Couldn't get anywhere near finishing the plate. They have entrees, sandwiches, baskets, house-made pizza, and the ubiquitous Friday night fish fry. Our server "K.C." was affable, knowledgeable, and outgoing. Attentive without hovering. She's wasting her talents there. If you find yourself boating up the Fox, or driving the back roads of northern Illinois, Vickies is worth a stop. read more

The older female bartender was not wearing a mask at all. Several servers and hostess stand were wearing masks incorrectly, either below nose and or chin. Outside dining but very close together and no safe distance path to get from boat to the hostess stand. Had to walk by 2-3 tables. The food was mediocre at best. Vickie's was good :) me and my boyfriend went on a motorcycle ride up there to get his parents a gift certificate since there boat is right next to it. I had the fisherman's basket which was shrimp,cod, and fries. I thought it was really good and there tarter sauce was awesome. My boyfriend had the Malibu jerk chicken sandwich and said it was excellent. Next time I'll probably try their pizza or a sandwich the basket was a lot of fried going on but that was my fault. Since I've never seen "chocolate nachos" before we had to get a small order. It was unique and delicious :) I had way to much food for lunch we were stuffed. Went for dinner around 6 pm. Simple order a couple of burgers, and fish tacos. Being that it was the holiday weekend we expected to wait longer then normal to get food. But 1 hour was too much. This summer I have been on a dinning by water kick. I have been to probably a dozen restaurants on the water, so I guess I'm pretty well versed. Vickie's is a really nice place to eat right on the Fox River in downtown Mchenry. The staff is always friendly and the food is good bar fare with large portions. They have excellent burgers and really good tropical drinks. I highly recommend eating on their huge deck so you can watch the boaters go by. It is very relaxing. If you bring kids, they can feed popcorn to the duck (and carp) down by the piers. One thing I wish they would do is remodel the bathroom...but that is my pet peeve. Fantastic Cobb salad! I asked them to toss it...I don't think it comes this way but highly recommended! The waitress was very nice but seemed super busy. She never asked what I wanted to drink, I had to ask her for a water and she yelled over my head to the hostess to get me a water. I was a little taken back by that...and once she brought the food we didn't see her the entire visit until she brought the check. Overall a great experience. I found out about this place via the locals. I love trying things that I otherwise wouldn't be able to get somewhere else. I saw that they had these mozzarella egg roll things and I knew that I was going to be in love. Mozzarella sticks and egg rolls are my two favorite snacks so to have them together was crazy!! I love the combination of cheese that she uses and I opt for the house made ranch vs the marinara sauce. I ate these literally everyday when I was working there. I am definitely going to try to duplicate them one day at home. When I went there it was he beginning of the covid situation going on and they were in there wiping with bleach and making sure that the place was clean. There were a few more things that I would have liked to try on the menu but I just couldn't stay away from the twisted egg rolls. I love to patronize mom and pop shops. The owner was in there once day basically scrubbing the floors on her hands. She cares about here business and it shows. This will be a great place to come and enjoy some good food on the patio. Place allows you to take your dog! They have a dog park area of eating tables, all fenced in. The waitress never did remember to bring our lemons! But all else was super except the flights of margaritas, they were all tart, but lots o booze. Loved the food, loved the deck. Got to watch some drunks guys trying to catch human sized carp off the tiny docks. Amazingly funny! I had the jerk chicken sandwich. It was yummy. The fries were good. Came here last night for dinner with my husband and son. Was wondering why on a nice Friday night at 7 pm, there were plenty of empty tables on the deck. Now I know why. Food was average. We started with a hot pretzel with a cheese beer dip. The pretzel turned out to be three average size pretzels, which was fine since there were three of us, but the menu does state it's one large one. The cheese dip was gross - melted fake cheese whiz crap. If there was any beer in it, we couldn't taste it. I had a turkey wrap (no dressing), husband had a fish sandwich, son had a burger. The fries and onion straws that came with our meals were cold. I'm not a fan of the fries here in the first place - they're the kind that are coated in batter. My husband had the coleslaw, which he said was good. The service was the worst we've had anywhere in many years. The minute we were seated and had just picked up the drink menu, the server appeared at our table and said, "Are you drinking tonight?" No hello, no "my name is ____ and I'll be taking care of you tonight" - just blurting out the drinking question. We told her we had literally just sat down and didn't even have time to look at the drink menu yet. She came back and took the order, served our drinks, took our food orders. When serving our meals, she had no idea which dish belonged to whom. My husband had ordered coleslaw as a substitute for fries, but yet he got the fries. When we pointed it out, she seemed mortified and quickly ran off with his plate. She should've left the plate at the table and simply brought out the dish of cole slaw. Once we were finally all served, she never once came back to check on us or refill my husband's iced tea. We had to flag someone else down and ask for water - that was never brought to us. The only time the server came back was when we were still eating - put the server book on the table as she was flying by to the next table and said "when you're ready". Umm...we were still eating AND it was obvious I was going to need a box and I still had a lot of food on my plate. We then took a look at the bill and she had charged us for two iced teas instead of one. She finally came back to the table and we asked her for a to-go box for my food and also pointed out the error (nicely) on the bill. She did apologize and we told her it was OK. I also need to mention that all throughout our interactions with this young lady, we said thank you numerous times (after taking our orders, bringing our drinks, bringing our food, when she picked up the server book at the end). Never once did she acknowledge our thank you's. There was never a "you're welcome" or "have a nice night" or even "mmm hmm". She seemed like a nice young lady, but she's obviously in the wrong business. Between the food and the service, we won't be coming back. read more

This place used to be great--it is easily one of the worst places to eat in McHenry now. Not only is there service slow as molasses, the food isn't even that good. Chips and Salsa taste store bought, Mojitos are NOT fresh, just a Bacardi mixture, and the inside is just dirty looking. The only thing is as going for itself is the outside, it is cute and very summery, but it is simply outdated. They need a new staff and a new menu, pronto. read more
