First time visiting last night to have their Friday night fish fry and we're not disappointed! The place as hopping busy so there was alittle wait, but a spot opened at the bar and we grabbed it. My husband and I both had the ayce combo and added a cup of clam chowder soup. DELICIOUS! Serving size is large, and we're happily stuffed without additional servings. Definitely a no frills kind of place...kinda makes you feel like you're on a vacation! ALL the servers, bartenders and the host were super friendly and hard working, even when they were packed and pressured. Honestly nothing bad to say about the food and most of the experience. It is price well and has a very tasty menu. The reason for this is our last two visits, Judging my mother for what she ordered and gossiping with drunks at the bar loudly enough that we can hear is absurdly rude. Sorry its a slow night but maybe don't judge a vegetarian for not loving bacon and mocking them to other customers. Its just a bad showing. We come here often, so to be treated like that is heartbreaking. Now, my mom can't be certain they haven't been gossiping about her pretty simple order, a wrap with no meat, the entire time. We went here for dinner and Emma was our great and attentive waitress where we struck a short conversation about how our names are similar in each of our families! The spaghetti dinner I chose came with a side salad and 1000 Island dressing was the thickest I've ever seen in a long time! The portion was so large I went home with half of it. Should I be concerned that we keep getting bothered by a fly on our table? My wife ordered the taco salad and accidentally ordered extra lettuce and boy did they add lettuce! Lol. The one thing I noticed was it was missing music in the background, a jukebox or something playing would've been better! $130 for 2 All you can eat crab legs is ridiculous. Market price for crab legs is $6.10/lb. I did not see it listed on the menu so I should have asked. We found this by searching online. We went on a Friday evening and the restaurant was beaming with activity. As soon as we walked in we were greeted by a couple of very friendly team members. There are 2 different areas of the restaurant and unfortunately we were seated in the noisy area. It was challenging to hear my wife and the quiet room was fully booked, for obvious reasons. If you want a quieter room be sure to call ahead on a Friday! The food was ok, the prices were fair, and the staff were fantastic. We attended this location on a Friday for their fish fry. My friends had the fried cod - all you can eat and they enjoyed the meal. I had the bluegill fried and it was fantastic. Highly recommended. Upon arriving it so nice to see that all their entrances were wheel chair friendly for my mother. The hostess could have been a bit more helpful with how they work the seating, as in do we wait to be seated or seat ourselves? This being our first time here I wasn't sure. She acted as if i should know all of this and I was putting her out to ask. I'm glad to say that the waitress made up for the initial greeting. The waitress was so friendly and informative about the menus. She was quick to grab our drinks and the food came out so fast! We had the all you can eat fish and it was delicious! I had the breaded fish, it was wonderful not over breaded or greasy, large pieces! My mother had the baked fish and she said it was wonderful as well. I hate to rate this way, since the food is usually good, but the last few times I've been here, service has been really slow and either the waitress never came back to check and when she did I'd already started to eat my pizza so saying the crust was really over done got a that's how they make it, reply, it took a long time to reach the table so I ordered another beer. I do not drink beer quickly either. and the second beer was ordered a minute or 5 after happy hour. I would have ordered the second sooner had she asked. Then I know mistakes are made, but ordered wings no breading, and they were made with, so they were remade but it took 45 plus minutes from the time I ordered to get them. So two demerits. I will probably order to go from now on. Just sayin, two in a row. Everyone there working is nice but I don't need to stick around forever. Oh and points. We went on a Friday for fish fry. My complaint is that they did not have. The cheddar garlic biscuits. I so wanted to try that. Bummer. The staff was great. We were sat in a good location. I like other reviews I did not see a table by the bathroom lol. They do have two sides of dining area. We all ended up chop the same meal. With the exception I got the half half dinner. Ok the potatoes cakes. I did not like them at all. My friends all thought they were good. The fish was very good but still not as great as my favorite place. The server did let me get fries after I tried the potato cakes and was not happy. So my refill was fries. The baked fish was good I do enjoy some with no breading. Fried fish had a good texture and taste. The tartar sauce good with a nice flavor. Did not like the slaw at all it had an off flavor to me. We had a work party here last night where we rented out the upstairs. The party started at 5PM, and at first our server was motivated and on top of it, we loved her! By 7:30-8:00PM she was annoyed if we ordered another beer. After I ordered one, she said, "I really don't want to go up and down those stairs again." I said, "ummm okay, you can wait until someone else needs a drink also and then get mine." She replied, "I was actually hoping you guys would be winding down soon." At that point she told us she was the only server left. She wanted to go home. Oh my goodness, I could probably add a review once a week at least for this wonderful restaurant!! Having lived in the area for over 50 years, and having been to many of the area restaurants over that span of time, this has to be, by far, my favorite restaurant!! First, I'll talk about the food..... I can't say I have ever had a bad meal here and quite the opposite. Every single meal is terrific and cooked just the way you like it. The sauces are made by the staff as well as the tartar sauce, salad dressings and coleslaw, the soup and many delicious meals. You can have, chicken or burgers or fish or pasta & much more! You can have breakfast lunch or dinner. You will always receive wonderful service and very quick preparation of your food and it's cooked just the way you ask for it.One of the things that my friends and I love most of all are the tremendous specials that they have as they are so delicious, and also reasonably priced so that if you are on a limited budget, you can easily come a couple times a week and it costs no more than making a meal at home. We especially love Wednesday - chicken wings as I order the huge boneless wings and my friend orders the bone in and of course we choose different sauces. Thursday is pizza night. I just ordered one last night and I chose a large as I will still get at least another three meals out of it with the leftovers and about the pizza... if you are like me, you might be kind of fussy how you want your pizza cooked but to the amazing staff at CK, that is no problem. I always ask for mine EASY or LIGHT. It comes just perfect where it is a very, very light brown and does not have an overcooked crust. So many places you just get it the way it comes out and that's the only option not at CK! I mention the fish fry as it is one of the best in the area if not, THE BEST! There are other specials, like Tuesdays tacos, and Mexican food, prime rib, and specials on Sunday also. By the way, I wanted to also mention the unbelievable pot pie they have. Who makes pot pie anymore? I know I used to love the good old Swanson pot pie, but this one is far far better than any Swanson ever was! Lastly, I must add a few words about the kind, friendly, helpful, and caring staff. Whether it's the chef that you only see on rare occasion, the lovely hostesses, the bus staff, the owners and then the wonderful bartenders and the world class servers. We have gotten to know them all by Iname and I've learned about their families and their lives and feel like a part of their actual family!! Not only is it a great place to enjoy a wonderful meal, the atmosphere, warmth and kindness are unbeatable. If you haven't been here, I strongly encourage you to stop and besides, they even have a couple party rooms where you could have a really nice shower or wedding rehearsal or retirement party. I'm sure I sound like I own the place or one of my relatives does but that's not the case at all. We just started going here and have loved it ever since and now we go here about 90% of the time and love every single time we go there!! The Friday Fish Fry Is Calling You! Going to a Friday fish fry has been a long standing tradition in the Chain O Lakes area, just as in the north woods of Wisconsin and Michigan. Cullom Knoll has a fry that is outstanding. Expect to wait at prime dinner time, but as was the case last night, we arrived at 6:30 and were seated immediately. The interior resembles a log cabin with natural wood walls. Booths line one wall and lots of tables in the center. A long bar sits on another side serving tap beers, wines and cocktails. There is an expansive outdoor dining area that is really nice when the weather is warm. On Fridays, the menu offers bluegill and walleye dinners along with an all you can eat fish fry for $14.50 that includes cod, either baked, fried, or a combo, potato pancakes or fries, cole slaw and lemon wedges. Fried fish comes with tarter sauce, melted butter accompanies the baked. I chose the combo which came out with two large fried and baked pieces of cod and fries. The fried fish batter is crisp, very light and not oily. The baked is sprinkled with some paprika to add a little flavor, mostly for color, and the fish is perfectly cooked in each style. The tarter sauce is probably homemade and quite tasty. And you can't go wrong dipping baked cod into melted butter! The fries and cole slaw were ok. My wife chose just the baked cod and it came out with three large pieces. It is all you can eat and we each ordered a couple more pieces of the baked after finishing our first portion. As for the bar, numerous 16 ounce draft beers are available. I enjoyed a Sam Adams Oktoberfest ($5.50) and a Millet Lite ($3.00). The hostess and servers are all friendly, welcoming and attentive. A coworker had mentioned that she had tried Cullom Knoll for the first time and she raved about it. My husband and I wanted to grab dinner out on Saturday night, but wanted to try something different than our usual spots... and that's when I remembered Cullom Knoll. We went on the later side of the evening, so it was busy, but not crowded. They were out of the all you can eat crab legs by the time we got there, but that was OK because we were interested in something different. However, judging by the servings that we saw other customers enjoying, they looked pretty good, so we may have to go back just for those! We opted for the half chicken and the buffalo chicken sandwich. Both of us really enjoyed our meals as well as the friendly and attentive service from our waitress. Even with two drinks from the bar and dessert to boot, our check was pretty reasonable, considering the price of eating out these days. We took our cheesecake to go, and it was fabulous! It is made by a local baker, and we joked that we would go back for the cheesecake alone! It is a clean, quaint, spot that seems to have quite a few regulars which is always a good sign. A number of people advised us of the wonderful Friday walleye dinner, we were VERY DISAPPOINTED! The baked walleye was extremely fishy tasting signifying old not fresh fish. Helped a little to scrape off the skin but not much. The fried walleye was even worse and very dry, left most on the plate uneaten. Three other tables served their cod meals before us even though our orders were placed well in advance. We believe there was a discussion in the kitchen whether to serve the walleye or not. I am a regular to this restaurant Totally appreciate your restaurant although there are some small improvements that could be made Scrambled eggs are made with a little bit of milk or half-and-half to make them fluffy. Mine came with no seasoning and there were terrible. I'm not trying to be a bitch but retrain some of your staff. There are a few that know exactly what to do, but the others are clueless. When you order tea, it comes with an extra metal teapot. I usually have to ask today I didn't. Small things like hot chocolate with whipped cream needs a spoon. That's a given.
