Ok at the end of a long day, my mother and I were hungry so I had found a restaurant in Richmond called "The Depot" but when we got there it was closed and "Dilar" restaurant was right next door. It didn't look like much but in my travel experience these are usually the best places to eat in town. Asked someone that came out what she thought and she loved the place. Went in and had such a great dinner and dessert. I had beef ravioli with salad. My mom had their hit turkey sandwich. For dessert we split a Lemon Meringue and Cherry pies. Home made and so darn tasty. The inside was clean and family friendly. The waitress was so pleasant and kind. The locals were so friendly, sociable, and pleasant. Glad we stopped and took the chance. Sorry didn't take any pictures. But let me tell you, it was a great place to eat. read more

This place is surprisingly large inside and had super quick service on a weekend. Our waiter was incredibly kind and attentive. Hashbrowns could have been crispier but I enjoyed my skillet and the raisin toast. read more

My friend had the breaded pork tenderloin, and I had the roasted chicken. Both were excellent with good sized portions. The mashed potatoes were real, and they had the skins on which was a plus for us. Green beans on the side were really fresh. The salad was plentiful. We did not try the soups, but I bet they were excellent. Will be back if I'm up in this area again. They have some pretty nice desserts too. read more

Hands down the worst restaurant ever worst BLT there was literally a piece of bacon, a piece of lettuce, and one tomato. The sandwich was flat bread wasn't toasted. The fries weren't cooked all the way service was horrible. One restaurant a couple people in there, but only one waitress. That sell it and some of the Cell wilted and the bread she gave us. I don't know if it was a couple days old, but it taste like sawdust.. would never recommend this place to anyone read more

We have lived and passed by this restaurant for years. We decided to stop in on a Sunday morning because it didn't look like they were real busy and we were in a hurry. The outside could use some maintenance and a fresh coat of paint. (That may be the reason we never stopped in before. Usually the outside dictates what you see on the inside.) But to our surprise, the inside is clean with that old home town diner atmosphere. The menus could be updated but everything else was really great. The waitresses were on their game. They took our order fast and our food came out quick and hot. By the time we were done with our breakfast the place was packed. This is our second time here and we will definitely be back. We will be here to try the dinner soon. Dilars is a gem in this community and I'm sorry we haven't tried it sooner. One last thing. This is our favorite place to stop when traveling from Chicago to Lauderdale Lakes in Wisconsin. As soon as we walk in the door, my husband tells the waitress "two broasted chickens please!" (it takes about 15 min. for the chicken, but it is so worth it) I haven't been disappointed with anything I've ordered....I tried the portobello burger last time and it was delish. I've lived in small towns for awhile, and little diners are usually the best places to go. Both inside and out looked recently done, yet still had the feel of a mom and pop type joint. I went inside unsure of whether I would be seated or it was self seating, as there was no sign or host stand. So I waited patiently for one of the two waitresses to assist me which was within a minute or two. After being sat, it was another several minutes before I was greeted and had my drink order taken, and by that time I was ready to place my full order. My drinks stayed fairly full, and the waitress checked on me just enough, as I didn't really want to be bothered a whole lot during my dinner. My first appetizer was the cup of chili with cheese that came with my entree. Now while I think I may just be overly selective on my chili, I felt this one made sense for midwestern food as it almost had a sweet flavor in with the spices. It was hearty, and I could appreciate that for sure. Shortly after the chili, my onion rings with ranch arrived. The cup displayed the letter "k" on the lid and I'm still trying to figure out what it means. The onion rings were battered, came out super hot (as did everything else), and a generous portion. I decided to get creative and use the chili as a dip, solid idea, highly recommend. Last came the broccoli and shells entree, which had a garlic olive oil sauce with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, and I felt chicken would be a solid addition to the meal. The chicken had good texture, the broccoli and noodles were cooked perfectly, and the sauce was delightful. The piece of Texas toast that accompanied it was just the right amount of crispy, although there wasn't enough sauce to dip the bread. Thankfully, it was garlic bread so I enjoyed it nonetheless. I look forward to visiting again soon and being able to make this a regular spot for my family. read more

First of all, the service was outstanding. We were approached immediately, and had our drinks in front of in under one minute. The waitress continued with her very efficient service throughout the meal. We were there on a Friday and had the fish fry. I thought it was very good (minus) the coleslaw. The clam chowder soup was some of the best I have ever had. My daughter was delighted that she could have breakfast for dinner, and was served 2 large pancakes. My son had a delicious turkey melt. I love an old style diner with the paper napkins, the bread basket with the soup, and the dessert that comes with the meal. If you are looking for a gourmet restaurant, don't go there. But if you want to go to a great diner, with good quality food, nice size portions, friendly service and a good price, go there. read more

Dilar Grill family restaurant, on the south edge of Richmond, is a nondescript, average family restaurant. One nice feature of Dilar is the dining space layout. The restaurant is in a free standing structure with windows out along the sides, so it gets nice light and feels open and sunny. There is also a counter with maybe ten stools, but it is not used and it is in too open an area (lots of foot traffic) to be appealing for most customers. We stopped at Dilar for breakfast. While the food quality was nothing special, one way or the other, I will warn you that the quantity served is pretty large. For example, a one-half order of biscuits and gravy, rather than a full order, is more than sufficient as a side dish for breakfast. For that matter, it is probably an adequate amount of food for an entire breakfast, for many people. Prices are good. Service is average, roughly up to the standard of what one would expect in a family restaurant. Dilar is a solid family restaurant, serving large portions at reasonable prices. It is otherwise average in every respect. I recommend Dilar over any family restaurant in Lake Geneva. If you are going through Richmond on your way to the Lake Geneva - Delavan area and it is time for breakfast or lunch, Dilar is probably your last opportunity to eat a meal that is not priced to gouge the Lake Geneva tourists. read more

My friend and I enjoyed this quaint cafe. Stopped in late Sunday afternoon for dinner. We were greeted warmly and recieved great service from the waitress who seemed to be taking care of the whole place. She was so sweet! The menu itself was the usual family type restaurant / american fare. But the food served was very prompt, hot and tasted very fresh. I ordered a patty melt well done that was good, not greasy at all which I've had at other places. And the fries they serve are crunchy batter dipped which were also very good. My friend ordered a pesto chicken sandwich which I got to try, it was delicious! this place is far from upscale dining but my personal experience here was pleasant and I would definately return if I was in the area. read more

We've lived in the area over a year and we've passed by Dilar many times, so it was about time to try it. We're sorry we waited so long. The food and the service are terrific. My wife and I had the broasted chicken - best we've had in years. My son who is on the spectrum and very fickle about food ordered ravioli and he loved it. The server was always there waiting on us, always asking if we need drink refills. Food came out quick and hot. Everything has got to be homemade - you can't get this out of a can or package. Best Kept Secret in Richmond IL!!!!!! I am supporter of local business and small restaurants/ diners. Today was the first time I had their BBQ Ribs and they were delicious. The ribs are so tasty that I'm planning to order a few slabs for takeout soon. True definition of "meat falling off the bone". Well..Where do I begin? We have been coming here since 2005. This afternoon was a fiasco. We arrived shortly after 3pm. Not a single customer in the place other than us. Hmmmm.... Seated, we were given a menu, and noticed the lunch specials. Two choices: stuffed green peppers or pot roast. I pointed to the pot roast and said " we both want the pot roast lunch special." All well and good, until we got the bill. Server charged us full price. When I asked about the discrepancy, she said, well, you ordered off of the menu. Um...Yes we did. And somehow she pretzeled her reasoning in circles. Part of it was while we were lunching, she changed the menu board to dinner prices! Whaaaat??? THEN she tries to tell me lunch prices are only til 3, despite the fact the menu clearly states 4 p.m ! Things got worse...She got more rude by the minute, trying to justify charging me 2.00 more per meal...Insisting that she was right . Then she fought with me while changing the price back , making me feel like I was cheating her! You know, if you don't really intend to honor the menu prices and times posted, maybe it's time to close the doors for good? No wonder we were the only customers! The staff is very friendly and accommodating, I often call my dine in order early and they're always very good about having everything done on time for my short lunch break. Been here a few times. Its your basic "Hole in the wall" type local café but their food can be good to above average in my experience for what it is. The Chicken Dijon was very very good. They also have great creamy garlic dressing for their salads. If your in the area and need a decent plate of food they are a good bet. read more

Biscuit gravy is NOT gravy! Been going there for awhile for breakfast and never had a problem. Gravy was always very good. This last time we went, the biscuit gravy was not the same. It didn't even look like gravy. I then realized that it was basically cream of sausage soup. I'm not saying "soup" because of consistency, but rather how it was made. It was like cream of mushroom soup, only with sausage instead of mushrooms. I can assure you, this was not made with fat drippings, milk and flour. They made a cream-based soup, threw in some sausage and called it gravy. I actually ate a couple of spoonfuls to be sure. I can't eat gravy by the spoonfuls, but I was able to do this because it was SOUP. It tasted awfully funny on my breakfast. When I pointed it out, they looked at me like I was speaking a different language. Because of this, and less than stellar service, I think we're done with Dilar's breakfast.
