Solar Restaurant in Richmond, IL. Eggs over easy with bacon, hashbrowns, and rye toast.

We have lived and passed by this restaurant for years. We decided to stop in on a Sunday morning because it didn't look like they were real busy and we were in a hurry. The outside could use some maintenance and a fresh coat of paint. (That may be the reason we never stopped in before. Usually the outside dictates what you see on the inside.) But to our surprise, the inside is clean with that old home town diner atmosphere. The menus could be updated but everything else was really great. The waitresses were on their game. They took our order fast and our food came out quick and hot. By the time we were done with our breakfast the place was packed. This is our second time here and we will definitely be back. We will be here to try the dinner soon. Dilars is a gem in this community and I'm sorry we haven't tried it sooner. One last thing. The prices are really fair and are better than the chain restaurants.

Their generous Roasted chicken plate, ummm... great!

I just had to write about this unassuming Gem of Richmond. This is an all-around great restaurant, family friendly, great service, and of course, great home-cooked food!! We usually have the roasted chicken with French onion soup. It's soooo good!! The wait staff is very friendly and attentive. If you are in the area, you will not regret visiting these fine people and enjoying the wonderful food.

We stopped in here on a Sunday for breakfast. The inside is very quaint and clean with a pleasant country decor. The servers were all extremely friendly and worked really well together. We were immediately seated and our meals were served quickly. The food was delicious and the portions were very big. Our server Catie was outstanding and attentive and very nice! I would highly recommend this place and we will definitely be back!

Paisano's on Broadway occupies a unique--and important--place in Richmond's dining landscape…read more Credit where it's due: Phil and Karen Gilardi were instrumental in elevating the town beyond pure fast-food dependence. They recognized early that Richmond sits on a corridor of movement--Chicago flowing north toward Lake Geneva, that Midwestern analogue to the Riviera--and made a legitimate attempt to create a stop where people could sit down, slow down, and share a meal. I still remember my first visit, back when Paisano's had maybe five tables. I was seated next to none other than Dan Rostenkowski, then Speaker of the House. That moment captured something about the place: it aspired to be part of a broader, more connected world than Richmond typically experiences. The concept has always been clear--family-style, approachable Italian, positioned as a step above casual dining. And to their credit, they've maintained consistency over the years. That said, the food itself lands squarely in the "acceptable" category. Not offensive, not memorable--reliably mediocre. It satisfies the requirement of a meal without ever quite justifying a detour. Yet here's the reality: within a five-mile radius, Paisano's remains the only place where you can reasonably take someone on a sit-down date without apology. That alone gives it staying power. Paisano's isn't trying to be extraordinary--and it doesn't quite get there. But it filled a vacuum when it arrived, and in many ways, it still does.
