Super fun casual restaurant with retro themed arcade games. Very fun and unique menu options with cool burger and sandwich combinations named after your favorite pop culture characters. We ordered the Greek fries, Rick grimes sub, and the Gonk hot dog. Their home made fries and kettle chips were awesome. The food was large portioned and we brought home lots of leftovers. The only negative was the restaurant was a little bit dirty, the floors were sticky and the soda machine has seen better days and shook when dispensing ice and soda. It didn't give me much confidence that the inside of the machine has been cleaned lately, I will definitely be back to try other menu options (because there are a ton of fantastic choices) and hope the cleanliness is considered another day. read more

I don't know what I was expecting from Epic Deli, but it was not a compact remix of Dave-n-Busters. I might order from there again, but I will never eat there again. Epic relies heavily on the video game machines to hold the weight of a decor, while the table tops you sit at are one giant billboard ad filled with QR codes. The walls seem to have band type memorabilia hung from years ago when they all were in their prime, along with ads for local festivals that you would never see because there is so much going on with the walls, the table tops, and the signage that is wrapping the standing video games to show what game it is. Overall, the food is solid. Out of everything I ordered I would say the cheese curds were really done well.. I'm not into cheese cards per se, but I've noticed that in this particular area being so close to Wisconsin that the quality of cheese curd is important to customers that seek out this appetizer specifically. Because I ordered cheese curds I did not want french fries with my sandwich. I found the alternatives offered for sides were overall not appealing, and I couldn't substitute cheese curds for an extra fee.. I got the Italian pasta as a side and it was disappointing.. I got the Soul man as my sandwich. I don't know if I'm just used to Jimmy John's., or if I just don't like the bread that epic uses to make their sandwiches. I felt like I was biting into my pillow and not an actual fresh chunk of bread. One impressive thing I noticed about their sandwiches.... They travel well and stand up to being a solid left over.. I was only able to eat half of my sandwich. On the next day by sandwich tasted exactly the same, which is something I cannot say of any other sandwich shop that makes sub sandwiches.. There's a lot to sift through when it comes to the menu. I would eat here again, but I don't have this excitement towards eating here like most of the locals were excited when epic deli finally had a location out in this area.. I had never been to Epic Deli before but heard great things. I finally decided to drive the 45 minutes to try it. I walked in and there is a menu on a board that you have to read to figure out what you want. There was a group of 6 teens in front of the board so you can't see anything until you are in front of it yourself. Half of them went to order while the others continued to stand in front of the board. After a couple minutes, the one group came back to the board and they were now all in front of it again. I finally went and asked the cashier if there was another menu we could look at and he looked at me and said they only had the board. As the teens were not any closer to moving away from the menu, we left. I'm sorry, but how much could it possibly cost them to have a couple of laminated menus for people to look at while they wait. It might sound petty but I feel that it is a stupid way of running a business. Not sure what's happened here but after not visiting for over a year, food has become just average at best. All four of us felt our meals were just bland. Such a shame as literally anything you ordered in past was amazing. Truth be told, a sub from subway has more flavor and fresh taste than the two subs in our order. The poutine was not hot and truly seemed like canned gravy. 1/2 of the soda dispensers were marked out of order and those that were working had a weak syrup mix and little carbonation. One in our party needed a vegan option. When ordering was told 3 of the four items were not available. When we told our somewhat foodie 21 yo about our impressions, he said Epic's reputation locally went downhill two years ago. Starting with the good- service was friendly and quick, and they have a great atmosphere with fun music. There was one HUGE problem with my visit. I am lactose intolerant and I don't eat milk at all. I ordered a cold sandwich with cheese on it and asked for no cheese. When I received my sandwich, they missed out on several other ingredients (lettuce, aioli, etc.) and made essentially a turkey and tomato sandwich. It was fine. However, it was not fine to be sick the rest of the day after figuring out they had hidden CHEESE under the 2 lbs of turkey. It was one modification I had and it was COMPLETELY botched- which is absolutely unacceptable for any place serving food. If I had taken my mother, like I wanted to, she would have ended up in the hospital. This place is completely unsafe if you have allergies or need modifications- I won't be back. read more

The specialty menu always has something interesting, and the regular menu is incredible. Lots of fried goodness for apps, subs and paninis with weird/delicious ingredient combos, and even dessert and drink options. I'm partial to the epic blt and the smoking pope (brie, avocado, spicy onions, red pepper spread, deli chicken, and pork belly on a garlic panini). They even have keto options. What can I say, this place is epic. Epic deli is a must try if you're in the McHenry area, but I know of people that have driven over 90 minutes to get food from here. It's never a boring meal here. You can get a bacon wrapped hot dog or sandwich with cream cheese spread and Doritos. The options are endless. My favorites: The Khal Drogo - an Italian beef wrapped in a tortilla and deep fried - chimichanga style. The horseradish sauce just sets it off. The cheesecake! They are always serving unique flavors. The best was a two layer cake - raspberry cheesecake with lemon poppy seed cake, iced together with raspberry icing. Too good. Haven't had it in 7-ish years and still thinking about it. The hand cut fries are perfectly crispy. I'm a sucker for good potatoes. They have cherry coke on tap as well as booze fro yo! Unfortunately we walked in last week because we were over there and I remembered seeing the sign last time we were out that way. I was rather excited to try it, but we saw the prices! My goodness. 19-30 bucks for 1 sandwich and 'just $5 more' for a 'small side salad & a drink'. Now maybe if I was there with my wife we'd stay just to stay--maybe tho I'd expect those prices at Disneyland not at Mc-Johnsburg lol. With my wife/I + 2 kids we did not stay and my goodness those prices are terrible for a sandwich joint with no waiters, etc (it's not a nice enough, sit down restaurant to have that price point. We made a special road trip from Chicago to come here, as it was a Place, my fiancé frequented when he lived in the suburbs. I am so glad we made this trip. The menu itself could be absolutely overwhelming, but the bonus of that is that there truly is something for everyone. They have one of the largest vegan menus for both entrées and desserts that I've ever seen. In addition, they have various kinds of meats with different toppings and you were able to customize any sandwich you want to remove certain things that you may not like. My fiancé had the Jon Bender which was an absolutely massive sandwich that had pulled pork, chicken fingers, bacon, and mozzarella sticks on it. Unless you are truly starving, it would be almost impossible to eat a foot-long of this in one sitting so the bonus is you get to take it home and have it for dinner! I opted for the Wookiefoot Panini, which was fantastic! Everything came out very quickly, the side of fries were really great, and they have a lot of fun drink options you could choose from as well. They also have indoor and outdoor seating to choose from and inside there are a lot of arcade games that you can play so make sure to bring your quarters if you're interested in that. The desserts were out of this world. We had one of their special fall milkshakes, which tasted just like a caramel apple sucker, and was absolutely delicious. We are new customers at Epic Deli. We tried Epic Deli two weeks ago on a Friday evening at 6:40PM but after waiting for someone to show up at the counter for 5 minutes we left and went elsewhere. Yesterday (Friday evening), we figured everyone can have a bad day so we'd try the Epic Deli again; it does claim to be great food. There's a sign by the register that says make any sandwich into a salad with no upcharge. Perfect. My wife prefers salads. So I ordered a sub and my wife ordered the sandwich/salad. The lady at the order entry worked awhile to get the Ranch-dressing-on-the-side part ordered. We paid, got our number and sat down. A couple minutes later the food was delivered to the table. My wife got a wrapped sub, not a salad. She took it up to the register and asked why it wasn't what she ordered. The lady told that she didn't mention the salad part, so we got a sub. That's that. end of story. Astounding. That's not what happened but a fix would have taken maybe a minute to dump the contents of the sub over some lettuce and hand it back and my wife would have been delighted. We have wanted to try this place for a really long time, and finally made it. It's a big space with counter service, arcade games, several televisions, a huge menu and great music. There's ample seating for parties of any size. I'm sure this spot is really nice for a big group. We tried the Rick Grimes and the Dr. Spaceman. Both were great! And I'd say they were both moderately sized, so we didn't leave feel bad about ourselves after eating haha. We also tried the Take 5 shake and the Thin Mint vegan shake. Both of those were good too - though personally I would have preferred a smaller size (only one size on shakes). We will definitely be back when we're out this way. So I was there for lunch this afternoon with my son and his wife heard about this place. I've never been there. The lady behind the cash register was very polite. Very nice. It all looks so good. I end up just getting the John Bender, which was pulled pork, mozzarella sticks, and some sort of Jamaican fried chicken was amazingwith an order of french fries and some homemade ketchup pepper, but wasn't really hot. This will be a mini-review since I only had time to stop in for some pinball games and to have a shake. First of all I really like the new space and the decorations- I can imagine they get some good crowds on the nights that they host live bands. Lots of parking too which is appreciated. It's great that they have pinball and other video games. Super Chexx (bubble) hockey and air hockey are both nice to have too. Given the amount of space that they have, I was surprised not to see a bowling game but that might be coming soon? I really wanted to try one of their exotic flavored shakes (IE: Boo Berry, Carrot Cake Oreo) but I was jonesing for a classic shake so I didn't want to be stuck with something that was less than satisfying so I went for a "chocolate" or "Amos and Andy". In a word the shake was "delish". Having said that- I was reminded of the scene in the movie "Pulp Fiction" where Uma Thurman takes John Travolta to "Jack Rabbit Slims" for dinner. After Thurman orders a "$5 Shake" Travolta says that he has to know what a $5 shake tastes like. After taking a sip, Travolta exclaims "That's a pretty *ucking good milkshake. I don't know if it's worth five dollars but it's pretty *ucking good." After trying Epic's $6 shake, I felt much like John Travolta's character "Vincent"; their shakes are really tasty, and they are topped with some of the richest whipped cream that I have ever laid a lip on, but is it really worth $6? It's ice cream and milk with flavoring, right? It isn't like they put bourbon in there. The bottom line is that I'd encourage you to try Epic's shakes (an "adult" shake with alcohol is also available) because YOLO. read more

Moving to a new city I was looking for a new place that did smash burgers because I didn't want to drive over 40 minutes to get one whenever I was craving it lol. I had "The Ken Jennings" which were two quarter-pound "Certified Angus beef" smash burgers that are infused with thin-sliced onion and topped with french onion jam, smoked gouda, spicy miso kewpie aioli, and a grilled cheese kurd skirt! served on toasted brioche with a side of hand-cut fries! I can see why this has got awards because not just one of the better smash burgers I've had but this might up there with one of the best burgers I've ever ate!!!!! My brother got "The Strange Brew", I tasted some of it, loved it!!!! Then we both split a "John Bender". The John Bender is your ultimate go to sleep sandwich, which contained Pulled Pork, Fried Chicken Fingers, Cherry Coke Barbeque Sauce, Bacon, And Mozzarella Sticks! Served On A Toasted Sub Roll. Sometimes the name of a restaurant tells you all you need to know about it before you even step in the building or check out the menu. Cafe Olympic, sounds like a Greek diner. Rainbow Pancake House, sounds like a relaxing brunch place. EPIC DELI, hike your shorts up, because things are about to get serious. Now, I hope today wasn't leg day, because you WILL be standing in place with a menu in your hand for at least five minutes, if not more, before you're finally able to identify that one special item that speaks directly to your stomach, while your heart can't help but overhear. That's not to say that everything is unhealthy, as there is an ample selection of vegetarian and vegan options. Whatever you settle on, you will need napkins, and probably a fork, and maybe even a carryout box (conveniently placed for you to do it yourself, hence avoiding unnecessary shame for admitting defeat to a monster sandwich). Everything is tweaked and has personality, from sauces, to slaws, to the breading on mozzarella sticks. You'll find flavor hidden almost everywhere. And I say almost for a reason. On this visit, I ordered a Blue Moon shake (with Froot Loops on top). I know blue moon is an enigmatic, ethereal ice cream flavor, and how hard it is to discern exactly what it tastes like, but this shake was a little light on that mystery.
