It was close to the hotel we stayed at in Wisconsin so we gave them a try.... Oh my!!! Potato salad It sad when a product that you have loved for well over 20 years, a product I'm willing to drive 45 minutes for is changed to something I no longer like at all. Also the French bread now tastes like nothing. The only thing that apparently hasn't changed yet is the extra fennel Italians. When my wife was in the store on Saturday, she heard another customer say the same thing about the potato salad. So instead of coming in several times a month for an entire meal, you're forcing me to buy a bunch of Italians wrapped in 2s so I only have to make the trip every couple of months. I am/will be kicking myself for not trying this place sooner. If you like Italian food this is THE spot. The hot food smelled enticing and looked fresh. The meat coolers were stocked and looking tasty. They also had homemade frozen pizzas as well as everything you'll need to make your own at home. I got the spicy Italian sausage in red peppers and it was fantastic. The strong Italian sausage flavor with the fresh professionally made sauce. I couldn't stop before to take a picture so it's pretty much gone. The lasagna had my wife silent for over 20 minutes which I'm pretty sure is a record. The bread was flavorful, fresh, and had me coming back for more till it was gone. They have a large wine selection and the staff WANTED to be there. This place is packed with so much great stuff! They've got a good selection of pastries, including cookies, cannolis, and cakes like tiramisu. We tried the cannolis, and they're very good. We also bought pizza dough and used it to make our own pizza (TIP: let the pizza sauce at least come to room temperature to allow you to spread it easily). The staff was very helpful to us in making our decisions on things like what kind of pepperoni to use. Big wine selection with good tasting notes and good prices. It's not NY city so why the hype. They are slick on adding to your take out order from the food to go selection. Prices shown are for one piece, then they ask if you want soup or salad 'sure, I'll have soap". Go to check out and get the surprise, the dinner price not the per piece price is on your tab. Soup is too salty and the slice of piece of French bread is on the stale side. Dinner is almost twice as much as the piece price. If you eat in it's still not a good value as their food is basic, too salty and too expensive for dinner. I have a suspicion their food in the foodservice tins probably come from a foodservice like Sysco, the killer of good food. Best to order piecemeal. It's basic Italian food unless you're from the area then it's "wonderful". The butcher shop section is full of really good looking cuts, clean and well lighted. read more

We tried the cannoli, the cannoli cake and the biscotti get high marks for being tasty! Hands down the best meatball sub around, and I say that as the proud son of a Sicilian grandmother. The deli is great, and so is the grocery section. They even have fresh fruit and vegetables--not as much selection as a full-sized grocery store like Sentry, but really, good fresh stuff all the same. We'd live off the food if we could. If I have a complaint, it's a very mild one-- I'd like to see 1-2 more pasta options, maybe a gnochetti dish or an arrabiata sauce. Having said that, prices are good and portions are great. The meatball sub, for example, has 3-4 meatballs almost the size of tennis balls. It's great to have a family business that serves such great food. read more

Amazing food. Counter shows some options plus they'll make you some fresh pasta. Our group had spinach lasagna, Italian beef sandwich, meat ravioli, and a spicy rice ball with 2 pistachio cannolis for later. Total under $60 before tip. Food was delicious. Ravioli dinner was $12 and came with soup or salad and fresh bread. Six large ravioli cane. Lasagnas was a large piece. Sandwich was coated with melted cheese and hot peppers, served with fries. (Mild peppers were an option). Rice balls were made with spicy sausage. We also had two sodas and a San Pellegrino from the fridge. Salad was fresh with homemade balsamic. Included crisp romaine, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes and a pepper. Staff was friendly and delivered our food to the table. We paid at the counter when we left. Closes early, 7:00 pm, and they mean it, so don't get there too late or they'll be cleaning up around you! Cannoli was devoured around 11 pm and was fantastic. Not too sweet. Definitely worth a return trip as the food was delicious and other dessert options looked amazing. The store had many enticing options, as well. read more

I heard rumor of this Italian Deli off the beaten path that people drive from Chicago, Milwaukee, etc to go to, and had to try it for myself. When I walked in I knew they were on to something. The right storefront is a classic deli with an Italian twist with a well stocked meat market that looked incredibly fresh. The right storefront is a restaurant with a counter and tables. The counter has meatballs, stuffed peppers, lasagna, etc. I was told the Italian Beef sandwich was a must-try, and the girl working the counter confirmed it. I got the combo (beef and sausage) dipped, with hot peppers and cheese. It was easily one of the top 3 Italian beef sandwiches I've ever had, probably #3. The beef was thick sliced with great flavor. The giardineria was plenty hot with good flavor. The bread was fresh but didnt fall apart. One of the owners gave me a meatball in gravy (marinara sauce) to try and it was amazing. He said all the recipes are his 93 year old grandmothers. I asked for the next recommended thing to try. They said either the spinach lasagna or the steak sandwich. I got a steak sandwich to go. Now, granted, I didnt try it until many hours later when it was room temperature. Some things are still amazing many hours later at room temperature. The steak sandwich was good under those circumstances, but not amazing. I will definitely be back. read more

I love this place. I have visited for deli sandwiches and always enjoyed them. Most recently, I picked up two giant subs, a pasta salad and a garden salad with chicken. Three strikes & your out! I first tried the Italian sub & the bread was just to doughy & soggy but the meat was fresh. Second I tried the capris salad & the tomatoes were mushy & the fresh mozzarella was dry & hard to chew. My third attempt was to try the fresh/frozen red sauce & it was way to much hot spice. Being Italian from the Chicagoland area I wasn't hopeful to find authentic Italian food in this area but Rigatonys really surprised me and exceeded my expectations. The food here is fantastic. My kiddos loved the meatballs, ravioli and chicken strips. We also had the breaded steak sandwich (huge and delicious), pasta with broccoli olio and shrimp (lots of shrimp and delicious) and split pea soup (very good too!) to name a few.
