Food normally good. Service today was non-existent…read more Love eating here when in town, especially the chicken soup. All good previously. Today, hostess seated us. Then nothing. More nothing. Ignored by servers. Ignored more by servers. Not even a pop in to say "sorry about delay, we're swamped" or something like that. More no service or sign of any server. We mentioned to the hostess on the way out why we were leaving and she just shrugged. Maybe it was a fluke today, or maybe the cafe is under new management. Perhaps rehire the former servers. Always been a great place in Delavan previously.

Thankfully, we were seated right away. We were served water and a wonderful tray of bread and focaccia with marinara -- everything was delicious, especially the sauce. (OMG!) We explained to the waitress that we wanted to also order an entree to go, and asked for the best timing to do so. Our waitress remembered this and returned at the perfect time to take that order -- rigatoni with marinara and meatballs. We had a 30 mile trip home and the dish was still warm when we arrived! It did take a while for our food to arrive. We were a little concerned because we did not want to drive home in the dark. Our food was very good when it arrived -- the Chicken Vesuvio was amazing, and the leftovers are even better today. Our family member liked the Alfredo, but thought it was a little watery. We were too full for dessert, but carried out a tiramisu. This was also delicious. The dining areas are Italian styled supper club. We were seated to the left of the bar. It looked like the dining area to the right of the bar was a little nicer, but again, we did not have reservations. We were appreciative of the table we were given. Some updates are needed, but we were comfortable. The service was amazing. The host/hostess was friendly and welcoming. The waitress was terrific. The bus boys deserve a special mention -- they were back and forth with water multiple times, and one even offered additional bread to soak up the Alfredo sauce. They were humorous and kind and for being so young, they were very professional--said how much fun it was to work there. (They deserve some special kudos!) Overall, this was a wonderful stop. We'll be back and will try other dishes. We hear that the vodka sauce is also amazing.

When I say the penne pasta is al dente, there's still fight in them, definitely not wimpy, pair that with their light creamy vodka sauce and is quite possibly the best pasta I've had lately. Special mention also goes to the grilled octopus on a bed of Arugula. The restaurant is called holy cannoli so of course we had it but what takes the cake is the tiramisu- just get it trust me you'll like it. If you don't we can't be friends anymore.

No refills offered and no attention paid. I had a few questions about the food on the menu and she had all the answers. I got what I think was called the sweet potato brisket skillet. My girlfriend had just eggs, toast, hashbrowns with bacon. She said the coffee was OK. She's a little fussy with the coffee so we've had a few places where it's been great. She says it's drinkable and she liked it. Good enough! They give you generous portions of food. The bacon was cooked crispy the way she likes it and the eggs were done perfectly. Hashbrowns taste fresh and good and never cooked perfectly. They under utilize salt, but there's probably a good reason for it and that's why you have salt at the table. The skillet I had, however, was real good! Generous portions of brisket and the sweet potatoes were cut strips and grilled and tender. It had chunks of green peppers which were grilled and you could tell they were fresh. Fresh grilled onions and chunks of tomatoes inside. It was loaded with cheese too. My eggs were done to perfection and I had the sourdough toast. Their sourdough toast is Home made style bread. I don't believe it's baked in the restaurant, but it was very good. Once again, very generous portions. The place is huge inside with plenty of elbow room. As for the price, their prices were average and in line with other places we've eaten breakfast in the area. The whole staff that is there greeted you at one point or the other. Very friendly staff. They are also open for lunch and dinner. The place is busy for breakfast so I'm guessing that they're Friday night fish fries probably pretty packed. I highly recommend Sammy's on the square.

There was plenty of seating even on a busy weekend. I ordered the yellow cab bagel minus the mayo and added the spicy aioli. The bagel was delicious! I wish the bagel was toasted slightly less but overall this spot is by far the best bagel spot in town. I'm looking forward to trying it out again sometime soon and trying something new! Last and final note -- it would be awesome to have a few napkins in the bag when orders are placed to go!
