Found this spot and stopped on in.. fast, friendly staff and delicious food! We shared the seafood platter it was plenty of food for me and my husband. Fried okra with homemade tartar sauce was yummy! If your in Conroe it's worth a stop'

Classic Seafood restaurant feel, great service and good food. Coleslaw was the only thing that didn't meet my expectation but all in all everything was good.

Fried catfish plate with mac-n-cheese and a loaded baked potato
Brett N.

Why 2 stars? Because I honestly didn't like pretty much anything. --- --- --- I've driven by Vernon's about a hundred times and the parking lot is always full. While fried catfish is not exactly something I ever think about, I was quite curious to see what all the hype was about. Unfortunately, the food was just really disappointing. As I've gotten older, my body only accepts so much fried food before it just hits a wall. But if it's really tasty, I'll still manage to power through. This, however, was not tasty enough to do that. We started off with complimentary hush puppies and some kind of pickled tomatoes (maybe they weren't tomatoes, but I'm not sure what they were). These were probably my favorite items of the meal. We ordered a fried platter of catfish, pickles and cheese sticks. The catfish basically just tasted like fried batter. The cheese sticks tasted like they were purchased from the frozen section from Kroger a couple of weeks earlier. And the marinara sauce had a bizarre flavor that is hard to even describe. For my entree, I wanted to order the catfish because it's the namesake of the business. But to be honest, I'd already gotten my fill of catfish from the appetizer, which was exactly the same, only in bite size form. I was given six pretty large "tenders" and could only manage eating two before I reached the end of my stomach space. I *n-e-v-e-r* leave food on my plate, but I couldn't even finish half of it. My sides were mac-n-cheese and a loaded baked potato. These were both equal to the quality you'd get at a middle school cafeteria or a bowling alley. I hate to trash a business like this, but when the food is so far below par, it's hard to be constructive in my criticism. Everyone we interacted here was friendly and the interior of the restaurant was much nicer than I assumed it would be based off the outside of the building. But this was one of the worst meals I've had in a while and a huge regret for me to waste a cheat meal here.

Chicken Fried Steak Large

Came out to Conroe and saw Vernon's off the side of the road - finance wanted to try the catfish cause he's heard good things. We actually came here twice in 2 weeks so it must've been pretty good! We ordered the kid's grill cheese, that my toddler really seemed to enjoy. They brought hush puppies and pickled green tomatoes to the table, a nice touch cause they'll refill them for you as much as you want! We tried the catfish, which was crispy outside and flakey and pretty moist inside. Fiancé also ordered the chicken fried steak, which was huge!! But he said it was one of the best chicken fried steaks he's had in awhile. I loved the fried okra and actually preferred the catfish bites over the large pieces! Comes with your choice of sides. You get so much food for the price and everything comes out hot and freshly fried. Restaurant was casual but kept clean. Service was friendly as well.

Dessert menu, we didn't indulge

Stopped here for lunch with my teenage son and my daughter who lives in Texas. The restaurant was half full and we were seated immediately by friendly staff. The menu is pricey $18.95 for four pieces of catfish and two sides. I asked for lemonade and waitress assured me they had real lemonade, but instead, I was served Minute Maid lemonade, which is actually a lemon drink. She wasn't happy that I told her to take it back. The catfish was just OK and all the sides were bland, mac & cheese, potato salad. They give complementary hush puppies while you're waiting for your food and those were flavorless and bland too. They need to hire real old fashioned Southern cooks who know how to spice up food instead of untrained amateurs in the kitchen. Don't think the food will change because Vernon's has a customer base that hasn't experienced real southern comfort food and think it's just fine, sad. Also, note food is cooked in peanut oil, and prominently displayed on the menu, so if you have allergies, you can't eat here.

4.5 stars overall!…read more This is the new spot! Hitting their one year anniversary today, I can highly recommend moose and oak! The decor/setup provides a slightly upscale, but still casual, sports bar feel that's family friendly. There are dart boards and various games surrounding the tables but it's all separated appropriately. Tbh this would be a perfect place to watch your sport of choice! The lineup: SOFT SERVE MARGARITA: you read that right & The reason we came here (thanks Instagram!) we got strawberry and it was everything and more I needed it to be. Will be back for this alone. TRUST. although..... I feel like it should've completely filled the glass like it does in the advertisement $9.99 a piece! 100/10 Appetizer: fried pickles spears - YALL. I am soooo picky about fried pickles and these are the best I've had. The pickles were good, crunchy, not overly oily, and stayed together! 12/10 Pickle flatbread: apparently I felt in a pickle escapade mood. Surpringly not over pickly and delicious. I would absolutely get this again. The crust was soft and cheese was melty! 9/10 Fish tacos: average. The chipotle sauce was a bit spicy. Don't know that I would get these again. 5/10 Fries I could skip, not my fave. The street corn was so good, though I wouldn't consider it traditional &! A bit heavy on the red onion, but I enjoyed it! Their sauces were all so good! The prices were fair & I feel like the amount I paid was relative to what I had, so kudos to management for that! Last but certainly not least, Prestyn, our server was great and hilarious. We truly enjoyed her & her jokes! PS - Girl, you and your name are beautiful! The food was semi-slow to come out, but thankfully we weren't in a hurry.

They added a wall with pool tables since it changed owners. Ordered the blueberry lemon drop, it was 9/10 and would have been 10/10 but had no sugar rim... maybe I need to request it? Usually lemon drops come with but I dunno. Also ordered grilled shrimp tacos with cheese only. They came out with only shrimp, waitress brought out a side of cheese when I asked. Three shrimp to a taco, one more would have seemed more appropriate. But they were yummy. Fries were great, some of the best sports bar fries I've had. I enjoyed my food and drink and woke return, even though they still have some kinks to work out.

At some point, we lost count on the songs, as one blended into another and each sounded just like the one before it. Hey, it was Thursday and he was a local putting himself out there for us to listen to. It's nice to have live entertainment during dinner and the background music was just background enough. Our seats were near the bar at the high top tables that gave a commanding view of the stage and bar area. The place was crowded for a Thursday night, filled with regulars enjoying the food and ambiance this century old building exudes in spades. Much like the breakfast menu we enjoyed a few weeks ago, our meals were almost identical. We both enjoyed the Reuben sandwich for our dinner. I personally wished it had more kraut, but the corned beef was tender and flavorful. I had added the sweet potato fried and we shared the cheesy fries as an appetizer. Cheesy fries do not do it justice. They were coated with more than enough cheese, accented with chopped onions and other herbs that added flavor and texture. Our waitress was wonderful and explained anything we had a question about during our meal order. I had an amber beer with dinner that really accented the reuben nicely. All in all, the dinner service was as enjoyable as our venture in there for breakfast. The Red Brick Tavern has now become a place we will go to more often ... not only for the food, but for the ambiance. Ciao, Darrell

3 stars? Let me tell you why…read more Cracker Barrel is one of those places that feels like a warm hug from your favorite grandparent -- comforting, familiar, and full of nostalgia. The atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect: cozy, rustic, and filled with the smell of biscuits and fried apples. I love that it's conveniently located right off the highway, perfect for a casual breakfast stop or a relaxing dinner after a long drive. The quality of the food is consistently solid. The hashbrown casserole is dangerously good, and I've never met a pancake here I didn't like. Everything has that homemade touch that keeps me coming back when I'm craving comfort food. Now, for the less sweet side of the experience: prices have crept up a bit, and for what used to be a very affordable meal, it sometimes feels a little high now. Service can also be hit or miss, not unfriendly, just often stretched thin. There have been a few times when my coffee sat empty longer than I'd like because the staff seemed overwhelmed (to be fair, this place is always busy, so it's understandable). Overall, Cracker Barrel is still a reliable go-to for hearty food and that unmistakable homey atmosphere. If you go, plan for a bit of a wait and bring your patience.

This restaurant is located by the lake so we decided to sit outside to enjoy the views. Our server Collin was pretty nice and was on top of everything. Checked in on us a few times & made sure our drinks were refilled. To start, I ordered their gumbo. For our mains I got 3 pounds of crawfish with sausage & it comes with 2 potatoes & 1 corn. My BF ordered their shrimp Po-boy with French fries. & for dessert I got some beignets. I also ordered the Cajun pasta with shrimp to go. Now, I'm not gonna lie I was a little disappointed that I was overcharged for my crawfish. So they had the happy hour which you can get 2 pounds for 14 bucks. However I was charged 20.99 for 2 pounds on top of that another 7.99 for an extra pound. Okay, now I know I'm not tripping but the math ain't mathing. I didn't look at my receipt until I got home, but I'm not going to be upset over a few bucks. * Seafood Gumbo- kind of expensive for a cup of gumbo since it was 9.69 however it didn't taste bad. The sauce was on the thicker side and it wasn't salty, it had the right amount of seasoning. I would order it again. 3.5/5 * Shrimp Po-boy with fries- loved the batter and the shrimp was fried to perfection. Sauce was good too. Fries were just okay. 3.3/5 * 3 pounds of crawfish with sausage, potatoes and corn- whoever is boiling in the back knows what they're doing. The crawfish was buttery, spice level wasn't too spicy but had good amount of heat. The spicy mayo dipping sauce that was provided was delicious. Sausage was above standard. Corn was cooked nicely but the potatoes could've been boiled for another minute or two. The only criticism I have is that they need to purge their crawfish a little better. 4/5 * Cajun Pasta with shrimp- the pasta was creamy and shrimp was cooked nicely. However for an extra 5 bucks to substitute for shrimp they could've given at least 6-8 shrimps. The 4 I received was on the skimpy side. 3.4/5 * Beignets- came out piping hot. It was doughy, pillowy and had good texture. It also wasn't oily which is good. I just wish they had some sort of dipping sauce for the beignets but I ain't mad at the whip cream though. 4/5 Overall, I'll definitely come back. The inside looks nice with a beach type vibes. The patio views next to the lake was also good. Collin was a solid server. They also have a full bar as well. I'll have to order some of their cocktails next time.
